It also doesn't work quite as well as a Thunderhawk should you want to use one in a game.

You could "Orkify" the crashed one ?
cut round it, paint it red (badly), and add a bit of platicard patching and claim it was looted

You know I just remembered something that one of the painters told me when I was speaking to him at the open day (I don't know his name, he was in the corner on the right as you went into the design area). Because some of the original legion colours are difficult to mix, he asked his boss (again, don't know a name) about whether it woudl be possible to get a set of FW paints to go with the weathering powders, and was told that it was possible, so he's pushing quite hard for it. It woudl basically be paints formulated to match the weirder colours used by the various factions covered by FW, so the green used by Luna Wolves and various others. Don't know if this has already been said, but someone's blog reminded me of how hard it is to mix the colour for Sons of Horus, and therefore this.

Would not be the first time.
A number of the new paint line have their origins in just such a thing. Straken and Elysian Green off the top of my head, for example, were intended to go quite well with individuals wanting to match the Taros Campaign colors for the Elysians.

For anyone interested, here is one of the FW day scenarios. I am trying to get a hold of all of the ones mentioned in the info letter such as
Participation Games:
The Fall of Tritonus: A Fall of Orpheus-themed Zone Mortalis game. Engineer squads from the 17th Line Korps descend into the stygian depths of Hive Tritonus’ central spire to rig it for demolition; the ruin of the hive tower will cut off the Necron line of advance. Suspicious auspex contacts indicate that they may not be alone in the gloom, however...
Venitarii Maniple: An Apocalypse game of Titans and Stompas. The Reavers Vastator Magnificat and Mortis Victorem of the Legio Gryphonicus hold the Imperial line against a massive Ork Stompa mob.
The Bloody Levee: A Warhammer Fantasy game. The massed guns of Nuln's armies must hold at all costs against the savage horde of Tamurkhan, lest the city be sacrificed to the Dark Gods.
The Titan Rush: An Apocalypse game of tanks and Titans. An armoured battlegroup has rebelled against the Emperor. Between the traitors and the unsuspecting Imperial lines stand the Legion Gryphonicus Warhounds Canis Dominus and Venatoris Rex.
If anyone has them please send them to me!

Hi there,
This week we turn our attention back to the Necrons of the sinister Maynarkh Dynasty, with two fantastic new kits that are now available to pre-order. It’s also a weekend packed with events, too, as Forge World is in both Chicago, IL, for AdeptiCon, and London for Salute; read on to find out details of which exciting pre-releases and new kits will be available at each show.
Necron Tesseract Ark
The Tesseract Ark is one of the most powerful Necron war machines encountered on the battlefields of the 41st Millennium, and so sophisticated is its design, it can be manufactured only by the most adept of Crypteks. Built around a contained singularity torn from the heart of a dying star, in battle the Tesseract Ark can siphon the destructive energies of this captured star-fragment and unleash them in a variety of terrible ways. The armoured bulk of the Tesseract Ark is also surrounded by a gravitic distortion effect, a potent defensive mechanism.
The Tesseract Ark, designed by Daren Parrwood, is a complete multi-part resin and plastic kit, packed with detail. The forward armour and arcane projector array of its singularity chamber give it a unique profile, making a fantastic and menacing centrepiece for a Necron army.
Necron Sentry Pylons
The stasis-tombs of the Necrons are vast and shadowy edifices, and many an Imperial Explorator expedition has made planetfall on a dead world only to vanish without trace; slain at the hands of the unliving guardian-constructs that watch over their slumbering masters.
Among these defences are automated weapons platforms of strange design known as Pylons. Some of these are huge, cyclopean constructs, but Imperial tactical logisticians have codified smaller, tactical variants as Sentry Pylons. These powerful devices are arcs of glittering metal equipped with a weapons array that can strike down enemy aircraft at ranges so great as to be almost beyond comprehension. Some are outfitted with a gauss exterminator array, a larger and more potent example of the hellish energy weapons carried by the Necron soldiery. This can be employed against ground targets with no loss of effectiveness, scouring vast areas clear of life and cutting buildings down to little more than smoking rubble.
The Necron Sentry Pylon with Gauss Exterminator, designed by Stuart Williamson, is a multi-part resin kit that stands almost 6" (150mm) tall. The Sentry Pylon’s cruciform arc profile is packed with detail, making it a fantastic painting project as well as a potent battlefield unit.
Full rules and background for these two war machines can be found in Imperial Armour Volume Twelve: The Fall of Orpheus, and both the Sentry Pylon and the Tesseract Ark are available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 3rd May.
Forge World Events News
Salute and AdeptiCon
Forge World’s intrepid team have crossed the Atlantic to Chicago for AdeptiCon from the 18th - 21st April, and we will also shortly be departing Forge World HQ to London for Salute which is being held on Saturday 20th April.
Our sales stands at both events will have copies of Imperial Armour Volume Twelve: The Fall of Orpheus available to buy in limited numbers, as well as the Forge World 2013 Event Only Warrior Priest and Death Korps Quartermaster models.
Our AdeptiCon stand will also have the recently-released Mechanicum Thallax Cohort, and the Legion Destroyer Squad, Legion Recon Squad and Legion Outrider Squadron, not to mention the sinister Necron Night Shroud Bomber.
At Salute, meanwhile, we will also have small quantities of our current pre-order kits: the Legion Rapier Graviton Cannon and Quad Heavy Bolter, and the new Necron Sentry Pylon.
All of these kits will be available to purchase in limited numbers.
Horus Heresy Weekender 2013
If you’re yet to purchase your tickets for the Horus Heresy Weekender get in quick as there’s not many left! We are also still accepting reservation orders for this event. This is the best way to ensure we have the exact product you want, packed up and waiting for you at the show. As with all our UK shows, Horus Heresy Weekender reservation orders are pre-paid to make the collection process quicker and easier, leaving you with more time to enjoy the rest of the event.
Please telephone the Customer Service team on 0115 900 4995 to place a reservation order. We will require your name, a contact telephone number and e-mail address, along with the list of products you wish to reserve, and you will also need your card details to hand too. We’ll process the payment while you are on the phone, and in the week before the event you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail containing your order number. This is your proof of payment and you must bring this e-mail with you to claim your order. We must receive Horus Heresy Weekender reservations by Monday 13th May.
Thanks,

Really wish they did a new pilot for the tesseract ark... I am tired of seing 'ol'pointy' on every ark... at least a head swap or something new would have been nice... ah well, will probably eventually get it anyways lol!
Wonder which of the 3 sentry pylon flavours will end up being best too....

@MajorTom this type of Pylon is the best if added on the top of the Tomb Citadel as any Monolith or Sentry Pylon docked have all their weapons strength increased by 1 upto a maximum of 10 (the other 2 pylons already have S10 weapons so no use for them) so very nice since its a 120" range with a now S10 AP2 Heavy 2 skyfire and interceptor weapon all for 135pts.
Personally i think the Focussed Death Ray Pylon is the best as you pick a point upto 24" away, roll 3D6 then extend a line in any direction, any unit under the line is hit TWICE as many times as models under the line with a S10 AP1 weapon, yes you read correctly so a tank hit would suffer 2 S10 hits or if you hit 4 models in a unit it does 8 hits instead, does cost an extra 25pts for this awesomeness but worth every point in my opinion.

Somewhere close to 25'000pts

More very lazy Necron kitbashes repacked as premium kits.
The Tesseract one isn't too shabby, but as with every other Necron release in IA12 it looks like they put absolute minimal work into it.
The Pylon again follows the unfortunate design strategy of "take some Necron kits and make something different out of them, using no new parts if possible" which gave us the Melta Wasps.
Unfortunately, with the sole exception of the Tomb Stalker, it's becoming increasingly apparent that GWS has cornered the market on good Necrons. What a downer - I had such high hopes for IA12.

Either they can't really come up with good, original Necron designs, or they're limited to only creating conversions for current kits.

You could say the same for most of the SM vehicle range. How many "minimal work" designs are there now based solely on the Rhino chassis? The Razorback with its plug and play LR weapon mount is a perfect example....
With these Necron releases where is the problem.... is it with the actual vehicle design thats shown or the idea of whats been presented in the list? The Tesseract is an "Ark" so it would stand to reason it would share some aspects with the plastic kit. I think the designer did a great job adapting the original extended galleon-bus into a more spherical single seat platform. As for the pylon there is enough there to set it apart from its big brother and equally enough similarity to make it fit in with the rest of the Necron range and the basic pylon design.
But as I already said maybe its not the vehicles themselves maybe people were expecting something a bit more "unbalanced awesome"....

Darren Parwood specifically stated that for this book they were aiming in trying to create conversion kits rather than entire new kits, as you can make a larger more impressive model using some resin + a sprue from a plastic vehicle for the same price as a less impressive purely resin model.

Pfff, I have only two problems with these models.
1. The Tesseract Ark should be named Tesseract BARGE, because it shares the model with the Ann Barge and CC-Barge and NOT with the Ghost Ark or Doomsday Ark.
I really don't get why they screwed it up like this.
2. I can get a CCB for 20 Euro from internet-stores.
The Tesseract Arc is 63 Euro.
So am I really paying 43 Euro more for some little piece of plastic in the front? That is complete bs.
I'll just buy three Barges and grab a random plate of plastic for the three Euro I have left.

1. Yes it is, do you even play Necrons? Barge: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2003396a_99120110013_AnnihilationBarge01_445x319.jpg Ark: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2003431a_99120110014_GhostArk01_445x319.jpg Tesseract Ark: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/DefaultFW/xlarge/tesseract-ark11.jpg See? It makes no sense 2. You'd be right to point the material out if it was solid gold, because that would explain the price. But that wasn't the point of my 'complaint'. Agamemnon2 wrote:Feel free to put your money where your mouth is and show how you create something better than the FW model for less money. I'm sure we'll all be thrilled to see you try.
Where the hell did I say that I would do that? It doesn't need to look better, it just has to cost 42 euro's less and that's not hard to achieve. I could take a piece of cardbox and stick it there and I would get more quality for my money. One small 'RESIN' (before someone starts to QQ about it) does not justify the 43 Euro you'll be paying over a normal Barge.

I will say at the Forge World Open Day the Tesseract Ark only cost £40 (of which i ordered 2, thank god for that) and not the £55 they are currently asking for.
Also there are 21 separate resin bits in total.

I could, but it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. For one, the Space Marine range is enormous, and has many things unique to it. The Necron range is much more limited, and nearly every item in it is a retread of a pre-existing kit.

Well, I guess we could argue with the plain, unambiguous words I posted, or maybe make up some dumb strawman you want to pretend I said to whale on instead. Whatever floats your boat.
Here's a more apples-to-apples comparison of what I mean:
For Imperial Armour 8, there were 3 factions: Orks, Space Marines, and Elysians.
The Elysians got a completely new unit: the Tauros Venator, a Valkrie troop compartment, and a significantly revamped unit, the Elysian Drop Sentinel.
The Space Marines got a new HQ unit, the Raven Guard guy, raven guard transfer sheets, a thunderhawk (obviously, it's just new doors), rhino & land raider doors and a conversion kit.
The Orks got a new HQ unit (Mek Buzzgob), the Chinork Warkopta, new Mega-Dread, new Grot Tanks, a new infantry weapon set, a significantly revamped unit (the Ork Stompa head\arms\belly gun), some totally new weapons (Lifta-Droppa on a wagon), and a kommando konvershun kit.
So. Some of those things (land raider doors, raven guard transfers) are minor. Some of them are conversions for for pre-existing kits (Kommandos, Raven Guard heads & weapons). But a lot of them - most of them - are totally new sculpts that didn't exist in any way before. Major stuff, like the Grot Tanks, Tauros, Buzzgob, Warkopta. I daresay this Necron release has not one single kit that is 100% a ground up sculpt the way that every other faction got in this book; and that is my beef. Even the conversion kits are way different - the Raven Guard one uses 50% new parts, new guns, heads, bolters, bling... whereas the Melta Wasps & new Pylons can literally be made with off the shelf GWS kits.
I feel like they really skimped on it. Maybe they're just too busy with all that Horus Heresy stuff.
But, you know, they dribbled out stuff for a few months after IA8 came out; it's certainly possible, likely even, there should be a new HQ unit at the least. Maybe a cryptek head or staff bitz pack. Something new, FFS.
The only kit I feel like they even made an effort on was the Tesseract Ark, and hell, that's half of another kit. But I'm willing to consider that equivalent to re-using the rhino or chimera or russ chassis as a base for another kit, so that's fair.
