Hi guys I think if I post the beginning of my army on here it might inspire me to actually get it finished and get some cool constructive advice too. I'm a new member and haven't posted on here before except about 10 minutes ago in the introduction section to say Hi. Not having really painted anything in about 14 years this is going to be a challenge and with very little to get the business done it's going to be interesting. I aim to update this thread once a week to show my progress of my Chaos Space Marine army of which I haven't written a list yet. Though one thing is for sure, It's going to be totally Khorne based and is going to definitely have two Chaos Defilers in and a Heldrake.

I am starting with a Defiler having purchased this off of eBay a couple of weeks ago already undercoated in Chaos Black albeit a little heavy handedly. I whipped a layer of Leadbelcher over it to begin with followed by a wash of Nuln oil. Then thee coats of Khorne read on the armour plates and then Balthasar Gold on the edges. Some Iron Breaker for highlights on some pipe work and heavy bolter. Washed the head with Casadora Yellow. It's not finished yet about 1/2 done more red to go on legs on the insets and loads more gold on the edges. Comments welcome.

Welcome along to the forum mate, you're off to a decent start. The paint looks a little thick in places but you did say the undercoat was a bit heavy handed so it could be that. For the gold on the helmet and other trim I'd suggest using either a brown or maybe black base coat instead of painting over the silver. It will give you a nicer tone. Looking forward to what's next mate.

Thanks for the advise I'll certainly consider it. With concerns to the undercoat I was really considering attempting to strip it first but the model itself was really poorly put together anyway, I bought two of these off eBay from the same seller and I don't quite know how I'm going to tackle to the second one as the armour plates on that are completely ruined with either super glue or some form of modelling putty.

As you can most likely see from the picture of this Defiler the detail on the daemon face on the main cannon has been totally distorted, even a slight wash of Nuln oil has failed to sit in the recesses.

Worst purchase by far though off of eBay has been a daemon prince which looks like it has been put together by a child of four years of age. Luckily I purchased this before the new codex came out as the new rule set has made it redundant from my new army list but will be painted up in-case I ever get a lucky roll on this new Chaos Boon table. Anyway these things shall be appearing eventually.

It may be worth stripping it back and seeing just how bad the distorting is. It could just be a case of too much paint, either way it will probably be easier to assess and repair any faults without the heavy undercoat. I use Dettol for stripping plastic. It works pretty well. Soak the bits in it for a few hours then use an old toothbrush to scrub it off. Don't use water at this stage though it turns the paint into a crazy slimy gloop. I've had a few nightmare eBay experiences as well.

To follow on from Biohazard's point I'd also recommend Dettol but for the love of god make sure you wear gloves, that stuff will ruin your hands.

My comments have been described variously as rabid, pig-ignorant, and stultifyingly ill-informed.
