Anyone running Abaddon in their 6th edition lists? Having any success?

Thinking about pulling him out this weekend and putting him in a squad of Nurgle Terminators to ruin someone's day (possibly my own).

Would love to know what other people are doing with him.

Stick him in slaaneshi terminators with dual claws and feel no pain icon.

Abaddon with feel no pain = someone crying.

I have yet to run Abaddon myself, but I could see him doing very well with Nurgle Terminators. I'm thinking of putting him in with my DS Tzeentch Termies.

Just keeping him in a Land Raider is a competent enough counter assault threat for a Chaos gunline.

chosenwing is pretty awesome. People complain about it being so expensive but really, 18 points for 3 attacks a dude and 5 %$%^special weapons isn't that bad

Also RAW from the Chaos Daemons codex, you can't join them IIRC (not from C:CD) (again IIRC)

sadly the book disagrees:( ive had alot of fun with chosen wing last tourny 3plasma 2 melta per squad and a bunch of nurgle oblits went rampaging through everything, abbadon by himself kicked some butt in general what ever made it through the wash of plasma that was rerolling 1 ageist space marines

He puts a lot of wounds on a squad leader!
If you can avoid wasting him that way he seems pretty good, but expensive close combat hqs are always a little depressing. He's like, way more than a useful unit.

while he is way more than a useful unit, you do HAVE to take an HQ to be your warlord which in the chaos dex is going to cost you 60 points. You also want to protect your warlord from harm, so you dont concede vi. ctory points. That is going to cost you 25-50 points too. Abby is yet more durrable than any HQ in the codex, so you shouldnt try to compare his 260+ points to a unit, you should instead compare the 160 some odd points he costs OVER a chaos lord with some protection. For those 160 opporunity points you get:
A tougher warlord(harder to kill)
A combat beast(abby puts out similar damage to a Khorne Lord with AoBF)
A great challenger(few guys can beat him in a challenge)
Chosen as troops(chosen are awesome as troops)
The best warlord skill(really there are only 2 good warlord skills for chaos)

for those 160 points, you get a lot, but is it worth it. meh maybe. but dont think of him as costing 260 when you are basically forced to pay 100 on an hq anyway

I run him on a LR with 8 chosens, MoN, 2 axes, 2 PFs, 1 melta and the champ with dual LCs (I'm trying to use all the models from dark vengeance + the champ blister), they deliver quite a punch.

I've played against him a few times. He is a beatstick and does the job well.

chosen with combat weapons are really meh. They cost more than terminators. I say you should get comfortable clipping arms off and replacing them with either melta/plasma/flamers or bolt pistol and regular ccw.

I wasn't responding to you. Hence I didn't quote you.
Pointing out it's an illegal tactic, is a place in tactics as much as YMDC.

Everything degenerates into an argument about the rules.

Of course, to be quite literal about it, the rules say "an independent character with a mark of chaos." Abaddon has 4 marks, plural, so this clearly does not apply.

I was more concerned about Abaddon tactica, and other ways to run him. Quite happy to see him show up with a bunch of terminators, but would also like to make sure there's no way people can outrun him.

Has anyone used him with a Land Raider in this edition (or with just a Land Raider)? My experiences with vehicles are limited to Predators and Rhinos, both of which like to blow up real good in mid-game.

Could you please keep your silly rules arguments in YMDC? Some of us come here to discuss tactics, and don't want to wade through 20 pages of bullcrap about something you already argued over 50 pages in YMDC.

A Friend of mine sticks him with 7 Khorne Chosen with all Power Weapons (2 Sword, 2 axe, 2 mace, 1 pair of Claws) and combimeltas all around, with a Khorne Lord with Brand, Plasma Pistol and Gift of Mutation in a Base Raider flanked by 2 TriPlas Fiends. Hell of a lot of points, especiall with a pair of Heldrakes above, and in 2500+ he runs a pair of Khorne Princes with Black Mace and AOBF and Wings. For troops he just goes 3-5 10 man Autogun Cultists.

That's not the case sadly, just because he isn't instantly killed thanks to eternal warrior doesn't mean the weapon doesn't activate the rule, same story for plaguebearers if you're a daemons player.

Here's a good question: if I was running Abaddon in a MON Terminator Squad and also brought a Chaos Sorcerer, what kind of psychic powers would be effective buffs for this unit?

For the sake or argument, assume the Sorcerer has any marks someone might consider appropriate.

I think we've covered the pertinent rules issues, let's just assume caveats relating to this and people can mosey on and discuss the ins and outs of tactics relating to him.

In the games I've played he does seem best deployed either in the obligatory land raider transport or deep striking down with a bodyguard. To this end the aegis wall upgrade -- cooms unit or somesuch ? -- might be of use here perhaps.

It would seem that putting him in a Land Raider solo with Dozer/Dirge, and using him like the ol' Ghaz wrecking-ball would be effective. I might give it a try in the next few games.

Interesting you mention this, I just found out I am going to be playing Orks this weekend. Could come down to Abby and Friends versus giant warboss and nobs.

only 4+the aspiring champ can have power weapons. Also I am not sure they can have combi weapons if they have power weapons(the champ can though)

Also is he crazy. That unit costs 690 points minimum(no ++ save on the lord) and I can think of 10 commonly taken units that would eat it for lunch at half the cost or less.

Also the lord has no melee weapon, just he just sits there in combat with ap-.

Also why give the lord burning brand and a plasma pistol, he can only fire one.

hope you can get the warboss into a challenge with your asprining champion while abby kills all the nobs in 1 combat. Then challege the lone warboss with abby and get rerolls for your csm watching.

I have actually used Abaddon a few times and I have found that he is best used with either a 20 - 30 man cultist unit (takes wounds on the way in, the champion is available if challenge is not the best option and they normally outnumber enemies so allows for rerolls in challenges), or with a small 3 man terminator unit for deep striking (2x combi melta and a chain fist - once arrived they split up and termi's can go vehicle hunting). He is a wrecking ball all by himself, and the choice between weapons alongside rage and 2 specialist weapons means he can take out aa squad a turn by himself easily or go toe to toe with anything that isn't the Swarmlord! He is pretty good for the points as long as you have a plan for him, and prevent tar pits...
