Unlike in 1988, Hot Wheels now makes not only:

Conventional Cars: http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120423004011/hotwheels/images/5/53/64_lincoln_continental_2012_blue.png

But also

Demonically possessed vehicles: http://tinyurl.com/Creature-Cars

Robot Cars: http://www.hotwheels.com/files/imagecache/collecting_full/V5499_Spector.png

Futuristic Cars: http://tinyurl.com/ck98nut

I believe that this makes it a better time to play Dark Future than ever before, regardless what GW might be producing. In addition to the standard milieu, I also used to play this game as a superhero auto chase, and I just recently saw this available: http://faos.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-9644909dt.jpg which includes the new "tumbler" Batmobile, the Batcopter, a police car, police armored truck, and, most importantly, a nice suped up jalopy for the Joker.

So, does anyone presently publish DF? Is it a Specialist Games pdf? Also, does anyone have the WD rules for the demon possessed cars?

Thanks

It was online with specialist game a few years back.

But Car Wars might be better, it was a much longer lived game and Steve Jacksns stuff tends to be pretty good

There should be an entry in the list for Dark Future. As for the materials itself, the game is long OOP and as far as I know, is not remade so if you want the actual game board, templates etc then your only recourse is to get a copy from Ebay - I managed to get a mint copy for £40 about 6 months or so ago so they do crop up from time to time.

Unfortunately, like Man O War, this is one of those games that while being long since OOP, GW won't license the game out or relinquish copyright control over it so they are effectively left to fade into memory. It would be nice if they would license them out to FFG or similar so some new people could have a look at playing these old (and fun) games.

I appreciate it, and I know a lot of people love it, but I found Car Wars to be excessively number crunchy, and avoid it like the plague.

If memory serves, the only thing you really needed was the road sections. Any idea if anyone has done fan created versions of it?

Thanks, gents.

Agreed Car Wars - like a lot of SJ Games - died under the weight of extra roles . supplements and the rest.

DF can be got from eBay relatively cheaply and still plays fairly well, but maybe not as well as we remembered.

You may Stan Johannsen miniatures and their Road Rage rulesets - great fun and relatively cheap - did I mention the bits for conversions he supplies etc

Our current favourite is a PnP game Outrider (see Wargames Vault). Again plays really well and easily converted into a miniatures game
