I love the modelling and gaming elements of the 40k hobby, but find the painting of the models quite laborious and have never been able to paint a full squad let alone army. Why do I find it so laborious? Because I want to achieve a certain standard that, once painted, I'm happy with and to get it to that standard takes me so long & sometimes never happens.

So, starting with choosing just a small core army I've decided to utilise this blog to see if its the key to discovering the motivation for me to paint my collection and take my hobby experience to the next step.

The small core army I've chosen have got the base colours pretty much underway. I've attached photos showing where I'm at along with a few close ups of certain models I've taken a bit further.

I hope I can make this an interesting enough read for you guys reading and to keep me motivated.

Looking at that Segeant it's no wonder it takes you an epoch to finish anything! I didn't mean that in a bad way, the mini is brilliant and I love the bright, clean colours. I'm a terrible painter and much prefer the gaming aspect...

Good luck with this little project though, I hope you find the inspiration for finishing these BA, because I'd love too see more like that Segeant.

Thanks for the comments guys.

It's good to hear positive feedback.

I've not been able to do much these last couple of weeks as i've been flat out at work, but at least I've done some.

Check out the photos below. I hope you like.

I know how hard it is to keep motivated to paint and paint a fully army. I also only managed to paint a full army for the first time in my life this month . The painted models so far look great keep the good work

Looking good so far. I sometimes feel I'm never going to get a model looking exactly how I want it and it really does diminish the desire to paint for a while, but it's worth persevering - it does get easier (and quicker too eventually!) and I'm sure you'll be justifiably proud of the end result.

It's been a while since I've done an update. I've been stupidly busy at work and not had much time to paint, but I can now say I have finally finished my first 5 man squad.

Just need a name for them now.

Hope you guys like them

Moved on to the transport for my assault squad. Giving them the Drop pod. I've got it to a decent start, hopefully it won't take too much longer to complete it.

Mate you should be proper chuffed with how these have turned out.I know myself how easy it is to burn out whilst painting so i try to have a few different things on the go at once.I know it sounds crazy but i can just jump army to army and i don't get bored.

The finished squad looks great. The yellow, in particular, is very nice.

Thanks guys. Your comments are really helping me carry on.

Shingouki – I’m also dabbling in a guard army as well. Painting just red drives me mad so I’m breaking it up by painting some green as well. I’ve attached pics below, but once again nothing is complete.

I’m now thinking about turning this into a Blood Angel blog with Guard allies. I’ll see how I get on.
