Has anyone had good luck with the Matte White Army painter spray? I'm looking into an all-Terminator force who's armor would be mostly pure white (a daunting task to say the least) and the fact that Army Painter sells a bottle that 100% matches the spray intrigues me as a way to make painting white seem possible.

Has anyone has good results? I've shied away from large spaces of white or yellow because of the difficulty in painting them smoothly, and after 15 years, if I am going to paint a new army, it's going to have to be something else than a dark color/black!

I started by thinking along those same lines, but I didn't want yellow for being confused with Imperial Fists. That's what got me pondering taking the plunge on white, or at least a quartered scheme with white as half.

A white primer I have had luck with is Armory. I think the key is multiple light sprays. Also if you plan on using GW paints, the ceramite white base is very nice and helps a lot. When I use it it I find that it is easier to paint white.

I started a white army, as I love to weather tanks and dreads etc... and white showed it off better. I used a car primer in white, it gave an excellent finish to piant on too and worked out cheaper too.

I use army painter wolf grey for my space wolves, I do find it needs a lot of shaking before use and warm the can up in some warmish water (not too hot of course) as it helps to thin the paint otherwise it seems a bit thick when spraying. Although I do live in UK where its cold 10 months of the year.
I also think the surface of the sprayed paint is not the best for painting over, to be honest I only use it as they are the only ones to make a wolf grey colour and it saves time, I do like the matching bottle paint that is a big plus too.

Hope this helps.

I used Army Painter color sprays, and they are really good for what they do. Just keep in mind that the temperature the environment you spray around can affect your priming.

My first time using Army Painter Grey resulted in my model coming out having a sandy/textures look due to the cold temperature I was spraying it in, in combination of the far distance I was spraying it from.

Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Hope my two cents help.

I've used Amry Painters White and Black sprays and both of them are excellent in my opinon.

I've seen using the Angel Green spray for my Dark Angels and I've found them to be fantastic. The only thing I don't like is that at least with the green I'm using, the finish is rather shiny and can be a little difficult to have GW paints stick to it. This tends to be more of a problem with really thinned down paint. Also, make sure to get their acrylic paint of the same color for touch-ups, as army painter colors are a little bit different than the GW colors.

In my opinion, Army painter black is not nearly as good as GW's Chaos Black spray. Army painter Black gives glossy finish and is not nearly as smooth and obstructs the fine details of model more than GW one does.

Oh, and a friend of mine found out the bad way that Army Painter spray colors are not consistent between batches: Bought one bottle of Red spray, used it on half army. Next bottle was completely different shade.

Of course, YMMV.

I wonder if Privateer Press P3 white spray would be better than Army painter, even if I painted a thin layer of white over it by hand. I have had very good luck with their black, as my Eldar uses black as a base color.

My army is also going to be a Terminator army of 20-25 and a Land Raider, so fewer models should take the sting out of painting white armor.

Whilst i've not used white, I've used the Pure Red, and Dragon Red extensively and they are great for what they do. Get a solid base colour down, fast! They do require a bit of practice to get right, as they are different to other primers I've used, you need to spray closer to the model than most, as the paint will dry fast and leave it powdery on the model, also they are quite subjective to weather. Hot and Dry days, leave the spraying alone. It's always worth having a piece or spare sprue, to test how it is spraying on that particular day, before going straight to a model.

If you can find "armory" brand paint sprays they go for $6 a can.

I like the Army Painter brand of colored primers, I have used Platemail Metal for GK, Blood Red for Ork Vehicles, Uniform Grey for my Sons of Horus basecoat, and my brother uses Daemonic Yellow for Fists, all have worked out well. If you are going for just white though, I would stay away from it as they can be rather pricy, go with P3 for the plain white.

Thanks for the advise, guys! I'll just have to decide between P3 White, or completely the other end of the spectrum with Army Painter in a solid color.

Just thought I'd ask, as it's out of my element to spray the main color- I usually prime grey, and then lay down everything with a brush.
