I know its not the best picture but you can see the difference. i've done 2 shoulder pads but in slightly different styles, it's the two at the front sticking out, which is the better one?

Thank you

The lighter pad on the left provides a lot more contrast and looks better. The other is just... dull.

Hey

There is no 'better', realistically speaking. Its all about what you prefer on your models.

If you are planning on adding more weathering/washes/etc to the red and having a grittier look, then the one on the right would be better. If you are going for a crisper, purer set of colours, then the one on the left is better.

thanks for the opinions, I'm quite torn between the two.

The lighter is cleaner but also looks a little unfinished? not sure why? when painted it also doesn't match the aquilla as well.

The darker feels a little more finished and more bone looking to my eye, but very inconsistant (It's Army painter quickshade).

They started life as Blood Ravens but I was less than happy with the forge world decals and don't have the free hand skill, so they are going to end up as a Blood Angel successor using their chapter icon.

The one on the left, add a transfer to one of the shoulders too!

transfers are inbound, sorting pads first then as they going to be my own chapter:

Left pad - blood angels chapter icon
Right pad - company number, II or V depending where my fluff goes

Right Knee pad - Black = tac squad, Bone = assault, Green = dev

the washed pad looks better. Unless you intend on brightening and highlighting that red suit of armor, then the fellow on the right's shoulder is too bright with respect to the entire suit.
