I for one do not want to war game with model kit vehicles. They are for displaying only.

I do wargame with model kit vehicles instead of GW bricks and so far no problems.
Also Tamiya markets some Italeri kits under their own brand here in Japan so they must consider them up to their own quality standards to do so.

M.

The 1/48 Tamiya kits have a metal base part and are very sturdy also they are quite cheap for Tamiya, the only problem is that they are slightly larger. But it not an issue IMHO.
They stopped doing that, these days they do 1:48 tanks with plastic hulls with four metal weights instead for the extra weight.

I bought these a few months ago i think only 1 has those four metal weights, maybe it depends on the type of tank?

Yeah, I also have the JS-2, it came with four weights. I also have the KV-1 with aplique armour, which indeed features a metal hull. Tamiya stopped doing the metal hull after X-amount of models sadly.

I so very nearly bought Warlords deal of 2 boxes and 2 trucks yesterday... then I looked at my unpainted pile! I wonder if we will see Germans in winter gear soon.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Warlords have announced price rises across their ranges, including Bolt Action - these will take effect from 1st February, so if you have any planned purchases get them now...

At the start of February we’ll be implementing a price rise on the items outlined below due to increased costs.

Rather than implement the new pricing immediately we’re giving two weeks notice, which should be ample time for you to take advantage of the current prices!

There will be price increases on the following products:
•1. Starter Army Boxes by £5 or £10 each (including Pike & Shotte Battalia and Roman Starter Army)
•2. Some Bolt Action plastic sets and sprues to increase by £1 or £2.
•3. Individual figures up to £2.50 each (single figures are a pain to deal with but we really want to still offer the service to you).
•4. All resin vehicles to increase by £1.

This will come into effect on the 1st February 2015

I'm happy to see that the Bolt Action range is getting pretty extensive. In addition to a solid amount of different infantry, they have a ton of different vehicles too - Germans alone have more than 70 different vehicle products (including all the variants)! Most are in resin at this point, but not too expensive, though.

The number of plastic releases within the last few months has been staggering. The plastic vehicle list consists of:

USA - M4 Sherman
USA - M3 Halftrack
UK - Cromwell
UK - Universal Carrier
USSR - T-34/85
USSR - T-34/76 (February)
Germany - Panzer IV
Germany - Panther
Germany - Tiger
Germany - 251/1 Half-track (plus 251/10 Pak 36 and 251/7 Pionier hybrid kits)
Germany - 234/2 Puma

Those are late war Soviets right? Pity, I would have liked to have seen a few rain caped Soviets in plastic (IIRC early war Soviets only had rain cloaks and those greatcoats available instead of the fleeces the uncoated guys in that image are wearing).

The new Soviet plastic winter infantry, T-34/76, and Tiger are all part of a bunch of new releases for the Feb 9 release of the Ostfront book (and I believe there are some new Finnish releases coming soon too)

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I've heard a rumour that Warlord have a big global campaign planned for Bolt Action later on this year. Do you remember some of the cool ideas from the initially mooted Gates of Antares online/world system, whereby player submitted results would have plotted the course of developments of a massive global campaign? Remember how Rick Priestly would have been involved with the previous GW efforts of the same (with the 'Eye of Terror' campaign etc) although of course without the global social networking technology we now possess? My impression was to expect something along those lines for Bolt Action in 2015.

No further details unfortunately but very intriguing stuff nonetheless!

Hmmmmm, like some sort of..I don't know? World...War?

They could do one campaign every year. You know call the first one something catchy like World War A, then World War B next, with more and more people being drawn in. I'd imagine World War C would be a bit scary...

Ostfront, Pacific, and Early War books all come out this year, along with Bolt Action World War I. the Ostfront book releases later this month, actually. Could be any of those.

Don't know what you are talking about mate! World Wars? Sounds interesting I will have to look it up on Wikipedia

judgedoug - From what I was told, a player-influenced campaign for the whole of WW2, rather than a single campaign or theatre. Sounds rather optimistic to me but good luck to them!

What will be hilarious is if they actually allow events in history to turn out differently if battles go a certain way

At least with this being based on history there will be no reason for Bolt Action to have to reverse out of the result, AKA when it became obvious that the 'forces of order' were not going to win the Eye of Terror campaign (at the risk of opening an old wound there )

I have also heard that the next campaign book after Ostfront will be Pacific theatre (not sure if that is common knowledge yet)

They already have a few tanks out that seem to have somehow missed this thread.

The ww2 Soviet forces also got an RSO/01 Tractor, metal Naval brigade and a Tachanka MMG wagon recently for Ostfront

I had completely missed this thread. I wondered why there was an uptake in 1/48 kits. Airfix and Tamiya have some nice modern stuff.. I'll have to search around for Italeri.. it's cool that they're working on BA but hopefully it opened them up to modern 1/48 as well.

1/48 and 1/56 are not that far off. If you have the same vehicle in both scales it might be noticeable but if the vehicles are different you will likely not even be able to tell.

EDIT: Huh.. on their website Italeri have 1/56 vehicles for wargames.. I guess I missed that part of the conversation.

Yes, Warlord and Italeri have partnered for 1/56 wargaming fast-build kits. Additionally, Warlord has greatly expanded their own plastics manufaturing (not Renedra btw). In the past six months these plastics have been released:

Warlord-only:
Panzer IV (w/ F1, F2/G, H, schurzen)
T-34/76 (w/ 1941, 1942, 1943 turrets)
Soviet Infantry in Winter Coats
(coming soon) plastic veteran German infantry
Universal Carrier

Italeri-Warlord partnership:
M4 Sherman
234/2 Puma
Tiger IE late
Panther D
Cromwell

Warlord has announced that they plan on releasing one plastic kit every month. January was the Winter Soviet Infantry, February is the Tiger, March is the T-34/76, and unknown for April (though speculation are the plastic German veterans)

judgedoug - thanks for the breakdown.. on the fast-build kits, does that mean they're dropping some of the detail a diorama person might look for in lie of easier construction and hopefully lower prices?

I checked out Italeri's site and it looks like for modern stuff it's still Airfix and Tamiya 1/48.

Company B seems to be doing 1/56 as well.. does anyone know if their stuff is similar in size to the Warlord/Italeri kits? (ie are all 3 actually hitting 1/56 accurately)

I just got Company B's Wirbelwind conversion and it fits perfectly on Warlord's plastic Panzer IV (as well as the Plastic T-34 for a Flakpanzer T-34 conversion). From what I see, Company B, Blitzkrieg, and Die Waffenkammer are all perfectly scaled at 1/56 to each other and Warlord/Italeri! Here's a link comparing the plastic Rubicon Panzer IV, the plastic Warlord Panzer IV, and Die Waffenkammer resin Panzer IV - http://volleyfirepainting.blogspot.com/2014/12/panzer-iv-kit-comparison.html - all 1/56 scale! 1/56 gamers are getting spoiled for choices nowadays.

As for fast build, they are scaled down 1/35, so retain a ton of detail. But, tracks are two pieces (top pieces, bottom pieces). Stuff like that. Still tons of detail and honestly I love the Panther. Check out this review of the 1/56 Puma from Italeri to get an idea of the levels of detail. http://volleyfirepainting.blogspot.com/2014/12/warlord-games-sdkfz-2342-puma-review.html

Wow, that paintjob is awesome. The kit looks fantastic too. If I didn't have the article to look at I'd think it was 1/35.
I'm really stoked to hear about the scale and Company B's kits matching up. I'll have to take a look at Black Dog and a few other places and see what kind of kits I can find for that scale.. if we can get some BD or Verlinden quality kits on there.. whoah mama..

I really like Volley Fire Painting's blog - and he does great reviews of 1/56 kits, including Blitzkrieg's stuff. Spend a little while hanging out on his blog and you'll see pics of tons of other kits that he uses for Bolt Action as well.

I saw this on Warlord's forum from member MikeRC97

Basically we can look forward to a Stug, Panzer III, M36/M10 tank destroyer, M8/M20 armored car and a modular building (terrace house type thing).
