Subject: New Tau 6th Edition Tactical Video: Farsight/Shadowsun Bomb
A video I made on a super unit that I found while searching through the book
On paper the unit is
Farsight
Shadowsun
- command and control drone
- 2 super shield drones
7 Body Guard
- 7 plasma rifles
- 7 fusion blasters
- 6 control fire
- 1 drone controller
- 14 gun drones
Farsight:
Can deep strike anywhere without scatter.
Is a beast in combat
An extra plasma (14 + 2 = 16)
Unlocks the Body Guard
Can Jet Pack
Shadowsun:
Can Split Fire with 1 Fusion Blaster (2 + 7 =9 or 1 Split Firing + 1 +7 =9)
Brings 2 Buff Shield Drones
Brings a Command and Control Link to reroll 1's (BS 5 with Markerlights Rerolling 1's is Almost 100% Hit Rate)
Gives unit Stealth and Shrouded (4+ in the open 2+ in cover)
Can Jet Pack Away
7 Body Guard:
6 Can Overwatch with BS 2 ( 4 Plasma and 2 Meltas will hit on the Overwatch from just these guys )
14 Rapid Fire Plasma
7 Melta Shots
Gives the Drones BS 3
Each can unlock 2 drones
Can Jet Pack Away
14 Gun Drones:
28 Carbine shots with Pinning
BS 3 (BS 5 with Markerlights Twin-Linked and Rerolling 1s)
Wound Jockeys
Overwatch is Insane (~ 9 will hit)
Can Jet Pack Away
Another Tactic that is not in the video is that you can start on the board and use shadowsun as your warload for the 3d6JP move.
To run this tactic to its full potential you want to know the enemy and question if they are going to advance on turn 1 if so declare to go second (if you win the roll but if you lose you will most likely go second) counter deploy the enemy they should now be in range of both your 18in and 24in weapons. If its night fighting even better because of your black sunlight filters.

You forgot the command and control node, multi spectrum suit and puretide chip. So all your shots are twin linked and ignore cover. This reduces your need for marker lights (especially when in the back field.) You also want a vector thruster.
I feel like the guy with the fuison blasters should have the iridium armor, since he want to be in front anyways, and the guy with all the nice upgrades does no want to be in front.I'd switch the weapons on the fusion guy and the iridium guy.
I like the list, just seems like a lot of points in one basket, especially since your bound to see quite a few, riptides with interceptor, that could ruin their day.

I love the Idea I'm going to test out both builds however I don't want to sacrifice two of the guards shooting when I can get the command and control node on shadowsun's drone.
Trust me when I told my tau friend about this (who helped me put this idea together) we look at each other did the math and with a smile said "This can one shot a full drago wing on average rolls" funny thing is even if you wiff your shooting, overwatch will stop them dead in their tracks.

The great part about this unit is that you don't have to deep strike. You can choose to make Shadowsun be your warlord letting you jet pack 3d6 so depending on the enemy's list you can choose which position is better.

It's a ridiculous death star with a lot of tools at its disposal. The only way for anyone to really have a chance of destroying or nullifying it is an overly aggressive deepstrike or you flubbing your JSJ and getting triple ones.
It's one of those select few units that defy you to figure out how it's balanced in any way.
The one thing I can garner from this is that no one can say Draigowing is broken anymore. Which means I can use them again without fear of being called TFG.

Sorry your video is junk, who would put terminators outside of a land raider when they know this is coming down?. IT does not need a FAQ for re rolling twice, you cannot re roll a re roll full stop.
When you are rolling you said two to wound with the melta, oh thats below average, lets say these two wounds oh no. You want these to do well but this video is skewed as hell.
Half of their worth and you have had to arrange this situation no player would put terminators outside of a transport. No player would charge their good unit at that, they will charge a throw away first to soak up the overwatch.

He was just using that set up as an example, so step back from the ledge. Obviously the Farsight bomb would deep strike at the juiciest targets. Your right about the rerolls the BRB is pretty clear on this one.
OP- this unit combo has been discussed since the codex release, but nice video.

Focus on the point MarkyMark. Coulda been any unit sitting there. and it isn't as if the Termies couldn't have jumped out and just KILLED a unit of their own.
The POINT of this Deathstar is: its going to F you up no matter what unit you have.
This unit is so ridiculous that I just dont know how he will have any friends afterwards. but you never know.

You got alot of things wrong such as how do your drones have bs 5?!?! you need a commander with drone controller to do that and your using farsight and shadowsun so no room for him.
I have already done a exhaustive research on the farsight bomb in this thread here.
You can also now due to the april tau faq buy two single weapons instead of twin linked so your suits can be like mine - dual plasma, dual missile, dual fusion, so the command and control makes them all twin linked. You can also combine the command and control and nueroal link to give them all twin link and ignore cover.
He plans to scatter after each barrage. he acknowledges the thread of blasts in his report, but states that he would mitigate it by scattering.
And I'll just say this: does it REALLY matter EXACTLY how he did it? Point is, it's ridiculously powerfully awesomesauce and if you had no soul, you'd do it in a heartbeat, minor variations aside.

Jancoran wrote: Drone controllee guy inj the back, remember? And he was talking about Markerlight help during the tutorial. Did you not hear that?
His explanation was a little...star struck, but he wasn't wrong as far as I can tell.
the drone control guy he has can only be bs 3, unless he is playing 2000+ pts with more foc slots.
His 2 hq slots are farsight and shadow sun, he cannot take another commander with bs5 and drone controller and the bodyguards who can take drone controller are bs3....
I use the farsight bomb right now and have played 3 game with it and it is phenomenoly powerful, I am also not afraid of ap3 templates as the suits are so large and you can space them out with drones where at MAX they can hit 2 suits and they all have 2 wounds.....
even large blasts are not that scary as 5" cant hit much if you max your support spacing and intersperse your suits with drones.
The point was... that with Markerlight help they are hitting on 2's. And they will have the help. No point in questioning what he does to get it because the fact is: He will. He can get it from Marksmen, he can get it from Pathfinders, Drones off of other units...
What I see as a possible fatal flaw for the unit is the IG guy that makes reserves +1. If they roll for the Warlord trait that makes it +1 also... they would stack right?
But even if they don't, a 4+ every round...might not see it til turn 4. Which could be GOOD...or could be pretty BAD.
Other than that little wrinkle, this just looks silly powerful. You could even skip the deep striking and go right to just blasting people and things away with it like a bulldozer.
Anyone tried it that way yet?.

when you have a 1000 points into a unit it needs to be in the game from turn 1, besides shadowsuns jsj on 3d6 is much better than precision deep strike.

Ok maybe I was harsh so sorry to the OP if it come across as harsh, but if I knew I was playing against the farsight bomb, as I have already, there are easily things you can do to limit what exactly they will be doing turn 2. It is just the video is very skewed to give a big benefit to the Tau, it is a set up and his reasons for not having the terminators in the LRC was not a very good reason!

Ds yes, its the deploying normally that causes arguments. You can't attach an ic without infilitrate to a unit with infiltrate, the debate is on whether or not this is true even if you dont actually infiltrate.

Or str 8 large blasts that will instagib most of the unit since there's only 2 shield drones? Battlecannons, Soulgrinders, Vindicators, Riptides just to name a few...these aren't really uncommon.
Other Tau players with ion Riptide interceptors will love facing this army.
Even heldrakes will do lots of damage to this unit as its footprint is very large.
I play:
40K: Daemons, Tau
AoS: Blades of Khorne, Disciples of Tzeentch
Warmachine: Convergence of Cyriss
Infinity: Haqqislam, Tohaa
Malifaux: Bayou
Star Wars Legion: Republic & Separatists
MESBG: Far Harad, Misty Mountains

If you are a careful player and make sure you space out all your suits with drones then even large blasts have a hard time doing massive damage as they can at max hit 2 suits (you accomplish this by targeting a drone) if you get a super good deviation you might land on 3, but its a less than 5% chance.
additionally if you take one suit with iradiuma rmor for the 2+ and it deviates onto farishgt/shadowsun you can look out sir to the guy with the good save (Im second guessing myself right now on if you can look out sir a template weapons hit?)

If someone debates this with me, I'll just punch their face and tell them to stop being a douche. Of COURSE you can attach an IC to any unit you want. Attaching stuff does limitthe unit sometimes, BUt not the attachment itself.
Good Lawd. Does no one have FUN playing this game anymore? Rules lawyers suck.

I agree with you on this one bro, standard deployment is standard deployment....if someone tried to argue that stupid infiltrate rule, id pick up my crap......
I also think the rule was intended to allow IC with infitrate to infiltrate a unit, but I dont do it till the faq says yes or no.
People really need to listen more. Most if not all of the reasons why I did what I did in the video are explained. First off the reason why I didn't put the termies in the land raider was because I didn't want to dig through my case as they were the models on the top (As I explained in the video) btw I also wanted to show the power this unit can bestow on one of the best tank units in the game while simultaneously killing one of the best tanks in the game . If you guys really hated my video that badly please make one yourselves send me a pm and I make a shout-out and tell people to see your version of the video. Also I'm sorry that my take on the unit is "not good enough to post" since its been discussed by people who have "done it better". God first real post on this forums and I'm getting flamed 6 way to Sunday don't matter though I was warned that this would happen. I must thank Jancoran someone I don't know having my back while I've been gone on vacation. I will continue to make videos and I will continue to post if you guys don't like it please feel free to put me on your ignore list as my work might offend you. Also I love hearing other ways on how to run the unit but straight up say that your way is better is not the way you show your opinions. Anyway thats my anti-rant.
