Hello everyone. I have been painting and playing 40 for going on 16 years. Every time I start working on an army, I always get my main force to the tabletop painted. I do not consider myself a great painter, though I have won some local painting competitions. It has always simply been an army, something to put together and paint in order to roll dice and drink beer with my friends.

Now I find myself living and working in China (I am originally from the SF Bay Area). I am surrounded by beautiful Asian and Chinese art everywhere. With the recent release of the Eldar codex, I thought that this would be the perfect time and place to start making a really personal army. One that I could always feel was my own, that I had put something extra special into.

For the first batch, I bought the battle force, some bikes, a Farseer, and a Nightspinner. I am aware that I didn’t get all of the mold lines off of the first few. My friend and I are doing a 2 person escalation league and I wanted to get my basic army put together and painted.

I tried to do some research on Dakka for tutorials and whatnot, but most of the best tutorials are YouTube videos or hosted on BlogSpot/WordPress. All of which are websites that I am unable to get in China. If anyone is able to recommend any other sites for tutorials, please tell me.  I am still very unsure of my freehand, though I have been told that it looks good.
My basic paint scheme so far has been:

• Prime white
• Sepia wash
• Painted the raised areas with thinned down white
• Shading with devlin mud
• Gems were washed with turquoise ink

I have done what I can to even out the white, but for the most part, these are lessons that I will use on future models. Anyway, onto the models!!!

This is my waveserpent. With the serpent shield dodadds I was having a hard time trying to figure out what to do with all of the free space.

The evolution of my Farseer so far. He is mostly done.

For my bikes I attempted to go with a Japanese woodblock design.

The viper was where I wanted to try my hand at some more difficult freehand work. I went with trying to draw some koi fish. It is a simple design and I think it turned out well.

That is all I have to show for now. As I get more done, I will post more.

I love the farseer model, looks great!

Good, clean colour scheme too- I'm trying something similar with white/ pink dark eldar.

And well impressed with the free-hand koi carp!

This is just stunning and brings all sorts of meanings to the name 'Dance of the Falling Leaves' in my head.
The slight mix of China and Japan influences in the artworks on the vehicles is great to see and your freehand is excellent especially on the curved surfaces.

I have been working on my Nightspinner. After a white prime and sepia wash, I have been putting on much thinner coats of white paint. It is looking great so far.

Thanks for the kind words.

I'll post a quick tutorial on how I did the koi later on. I only have internet at work at the moment.

I am almost done outing on all the basecoats for my Nightspinner. There is a little touch up work here and there, but hopefully, I’ll be able to start working on the freehand before too long.

Last time I tried to upload this is didn't seem to work. Here goes another try for the updated Nightspinner so far.

I have been playing around with designs to put along the prows. One Idea was falling cherry blossom petals. Another was to do a milti-pane image along the separate sections. I have been doing a little bit of research into negative space, and I am having a hard time trying to apply it to the model. If anyone has any ideas, please share.

So, I have been trying to work on what kinds of designs to use for my freehand. I was told in the P&M forums to try and make better use of negative space. This is easier said than done. I worked on two potential designs.

The first idea is a simple koi, but using the empty space to try and give some ambiguous definition.

The other is a more traditional grass in snow idea.
Other than that, not much more to report on other than that I did some work on the Nightspinner.

I am happy with how they came out. But With regards to the model as a whole, I feel like I am not taking any real advantage on all of the available space. I think I should have gone perpendicular to the prows instead of parallel. I really need to work on composition. Lesson learned for future models. I am very happy with how the writing has come out so far.

Groggeron out!

Lately, I have been too lazy to paint much, but I have finally had a chance to play against my IG friend. It was a blast. The Nightspinner was the MVP for me. The mission was the scourging, and I won by getting 1 more point than him on primary objectives, and getting all 3 secondary. It was a very close game. Thudd guns are a pain to deal with. While we were setting up, I was able to put together everything I have for a nice group shot. Sorry for the quality of the pic, it has been humid as hell in Beijing lately.

Also, here is a pic of the Nightspinner and Waveserpent together. I’ll take some better pics when it is less humid.

I have done painting!!!! I finally had a few days to myself which I used to paint. I am very proud of the work I have done so far. I have taken some of the advice I received from the other people here on Dakka. Here is a group shot of all the Eldar painting I have done.

For my Spiritseer, which is almost done, I have wanted to go for a nice contrasting color. I thought that red would do really well, and I am pleased with how it came out. I am going to do the lettering in white, and also with some white leaves falling on his robes.

For Illic Nightspear and my rangers/pathfinders, I wanted to keep with the white scheme that I have going for the rest of my army. It took me a while to work out what colors would go well with the white but would still have my army look cohesive force. I am happy with the way it has come out so far.

The base still needs more work but it is coming along well.

My rangers were painted in a similar way to Illic. One of my rangers came out a bit darker than I expected, but it does not clash too much so I am not going to do too much more to it. Here is a group shot and some singles.

Lo’ and behold I even found time to work on my DA a’bit that I hope to use one day for allies. Here is a group shot of 1 converted terminator librarian, 1 regular librarian, and my converted Belial.

Sorry for the long time with no updates. Work has been kicking the heck out of me. But I have found some time to do a bit of modeling.

I ordered a few items off of TaoBao. The quality as a whole was very good and I am really impressed with the seller. But on some of the models, there were a few broken parts. Notably the Vauls Wrath gun and by Spiritseer’s staff. I decided to bash the two together with a bit of extra bits from the dire avengers Exarch to make a Jetbike MoTLG Farseer. I think It has come out really well so far.

I am not sold 100% on the pistol hand, but I didn’t know what to do with it. Both of the fingers that stick up on the model were busted, and I didn’t know what to do with it. If anyone would want to recommend another part I could use, please feel free. Coming up I have two war walkers and 5 more DA’s to paint. Once work calms down a bit again I should be able to paint some more.

I got some painting done earlier than expected. It was not a lot but I am feeling super productive (even though I should have been studying for the GMAT ).

I got the base layer of wash on my two war walkers. I have no idea why it comes out so splotchy. When I am applying it to the primer, it seems to just slide off of it. It is a little annoying to be honest. Though I will be painting over it, so I guess it doesn’t matter so much.

Looking at these pics, I do see a few parts that I missed.

The Striking Scorpion exarch has come out well so far. A bit more highlighting, detailing and working on the base for him to be done.

The DA exarch I have had a blast painting. I decided to put blue on the shimmer shield; I'll work up to whight in some areas to give it hopefully an enamel look.

The blue is a great contrast to the white of the rest of the model. I can’t wait to get back to work on him.

I really like this paint scheme! It's original while still staying in the Eldar theme of interesting designs on the tank hulls. I especially like the koi and the red-leafed tree branches. The striking color really accents the overall white very well.

Looking forward to seeing more!
