Brook....

If I have to wait any longer on the plastic panzer grenadiers they teased me with on Xmas I'm going to have a mental breakdown.

Any word on those?

Very nice. Put me down for a plastic Stug, the M8, the Tiger......well just put me down for all of it, though I'm particularly interested in the plastic scenery.

That house looks an awful lot like the one previewed by Rubicon. Though thankfully this one will be more affordable and more readily available.

Those plastic US kits might be the incentive I need to start a US army based on the Company of Heroes computer game that I've been wanting to do for a while..

You're assuming the Russians never captured any of the 23,000 RSO tractors manufactured. Much like the German Pak36 Universal Carrier.

You see a German tractor, I see an opportunity to redeploy in the correct hands

Anyway, back on topic. The house does look very cool and may save me from buying lots of lasercut ones. We'll see when it comes out how they compare.
And when did the M3 Scout car go online?

I realize I'm likely late to the party on this tidbit but I saw the article/pic below over on ttgn and it was a bit surprising for me.

http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/new-plastic-t3476-tank-and-tank-platoon-for-bolt-action/

I was under the impression that you generally don't use more than one vehicle in your typical BA game judging from the few I've seen in person as well as some youtube videos. Is fielding a trio of tanks supported/encouraged/effective as a core to your army or does that box give you more points than you could field in a typical game? Maybe it is just coincidence but pretty much every force I've seen for the game has been a 5th edition style 40k take all comers list and not a themed mostly armor one that a box like that would suggest.

They are probably using the Armored Platoons, which were added in the tank book for Bolt Action.

The common medium tanks don't really take up that many points either, about 160 to 250 or so.

Honestly, I don't like the addition since the vehicle on vehicle, and vehicle/infantry interplay in BA is a bit underdeveloped.

Bolt Action armies are built around the concept of a core platoon with attached support.

Normal Bolt Action armies are Reinforced Infantry Platoons. Officer, a few squads of infantry, attached support including mortars, antitank guns, artillery, armor, transports.
Bolt Action Tank War armies are Reinforced Armor Platoons. Officer and a few tanks, attached support including mortars, antitank guns, artillery, infantry, transports.

There's no difference rules-wise, both are Bolt Action. Tank War just changes army composition and adds a few things such as tank platoon radio networks, and, obviously, the ability to play out armored engagements. Which are hella fun. My buddy and I have been playing a bunch of Germans v Soviet tank games and they're always a blast.

both Tank War and the Armoured Fury starter set have been out since last year.

That's an interesting take. I don't see it. How so? The rules are super transparent and rather tight. If anything, the addition of more armor makes infantry even more useful, when equipped with antitank grenades.

Cool, thanks for the clarification. Are the two army styles expressly meant to face each other or are they "officially" separate? If you go to a BA tourney, should you expect to see both types across the table or is it a permission type or even just not recommended type of thing?

I don't know of any official tournaments right now that allow armored platoons, but I have seen bring and battle events advertising the use of either. But it is relatively new, so I'm not sure if like Historicon might have separate infantry tournament and armor tournament, etc.

Tank War is super fun though. Since they released that I've dropped like five hundred bucks on tanks - which I guess was their objective, haha.

They're for armored platoons, which are essentially a different way to play the game. Since most infantry platoons can't really fight an armored platoon on a level playing field and vice versa, you usually see armored vs armored. They're also handy for the people that like to play 2-3000 pt Bolt Action games where you can easily fit a few tanks in. Plus, they're easy to put together plastic tanks built with a wargamer in mind, as you can use them for any WWII 28mm system, not just Bolt Action. I have the plastic hanomag kit and while I'm not absolutely floored by it, it's an easy to put together, fairly cheap kit, which is very straightforward and gets the job done. After putting together resin and metal Warlord vehicles and scale model kits from companies like Hobby Boss, just having the option for an easy to slap together kit with minimal fuss is awesome in it's own right.

As for me personally, I never felt tanks was the game's strongsuit. They're cool to have as support for infantry, and are usually straightforward to play with, but they just feel like the rules are too simplified to play them as a straight up tank vs tank game to me. I'd rather keep the game focused on infantry with the odd tank in support, where I feel the rules are their strongest.

I have played 5-6 games of Tank Wars and really enjoyed it but BA's strength is infantry-focused games. Tank Wars would probably be better, and I believe is actually intended to be played, using infantry in support of tanks. The major difference between Tank Wars and vanilla BA is not that you are only supposed to use vehicles in Tank Wars (as we did) but that your compulsory force org is centered on a vehicle rather than infantry choices.

BA is definiately a infantry game with a SUPPORTING tank. That's cleary the idea behind the main game.
Tank wars is quite fun, but probably not where they spend most of their time working on.

Absolutely. Bolt Action is meant to be a core platoon plus support options, no matter what your core platoon is.
Just as normal Bolt Action can be played with just some infantry squads and an LT, it really shines when you add mortars, MGs, snipers, artillery, armored cars, antitank rifles, soviet bomb dogs, flamethrowers, etc.

I can't imagine playing Kursk or El Alamein or Battle of Berlin without all the tanks that were all over the place; Tank Wars fits that perfectly.

It's been quite popular but not out-of-stock levels of popularity - most places have it in stock. Have you just tried Warlord directly? Should be free shipping.

Yes. I cannot speak for every tournament, but there are community standards that allow infantry platoons and tank platoons. The standard 1000 point tournament typically allows a player to field two infantry platoons OR one tank platoon.

To give perspective, some infantry platoon builds can have 3 armored vehicles plus armored transports (which could be configured more as a weapons platform than troop carrier). Combined with multiple platoons (a very common build) means an infantry force could have 6+ vehicles. A tank platoon has a minimum of 3 armored vehicles and a max of 5. Although it is rare to see an infantry build like that, but you could.

And honestly a 100 point infantry unit can take down a 250 point tank if they are equipped with antitank grenades.

Or just 5 point panzerfausts

Lots of tanks = less order dice = far less maneuvering. Infantry outnumbering tanks will outflank them like a boss.

I think six body options is pretty reasonable, and seems to be the going thing these days. Think probably the last 4-5 sets that have come from Perry and Gripping Beast have had this amount also.

Once you factor in the different arm swaps (with the caveat that these are all 'guy with gun', none of them are riding hover skateboards or half-cyborg!), it should hopefully be enough for some variation. I'm thinking there might also be some kit cross-over if Warlord's other Bolt Action releases are anything to go by.

It uses the same layout style as Japanese, USMC, and Blitzkrieg Germans. I don't think there's any problems with those? Unless I've missed something.
