Im thinking of green stuffing a shield for one of my tactical marines (see design) . Anything to add, criticism eagerly excepted P.S this is obviously inspired by the legion breacher squad.

Need a "gun hole". But way to go.

Personally I convert my roman shields.

im going to use a bolt pistol, as though the marine would hold it through the eye slit after he braced his shield on the ground.

I wouldn't use GS for such a simple flat shape.

Why not use plasticard instead of GS. And even if it is supposed to be curved - plasticard can be bent too.
You'll also have an even thickness and don't need to be very precise in rolling out your GS evenly.
You can also cut out stripes of plasticard as additional details and glue them easily.

(small smile) where would I buy plasticard?
an arts and craft shop?
any idea how I can do bullet marks?

I got my plasticard online. Gale Force Nine sells a set of sheets with different thickness that many larger miniature web-shops sell. Then there is Evergreen Scale Model who are making a bunch of different plasticard shapes. Just seach for their site.

Or just search for polystyrene (that's what plasticard is) in a crafts shop.

And for bullet marks just drill a small hole in and use your hobby knife of choise and rough up the edges of the hole.

I don't buy general purpose plasticard anymore because it's just too expensive. I now buy plastic signs from Lowe's or an equivalent home store and chop them up; They're much cheaper and work just as well, and take model cement and paint just as nicely.

these are $5

Also, keep in mind you can use old gift cards for what you want to do without spending a cent.

Plasticard is definitely the way to go here but you'll probably have to look online as here in Australia only hobby supply stores stock the stuff. I, myself, am yet to get my hands on some
If you do go with GS however you might want to flatten it over a slightly curved surface and let it cure there as it will then hold the shape permanently

Expanded polystyrene foam melts if you use spray paint on it. However the normal modelling plastic is also polystyrene, just a more robust form.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I,ll look into it, also does any one have anything to say about the face thing, heres a better pic (see pic 1) I will be "upgrading" it a bit if I do it, to fit a tactical marine style helmet,
also I'm going to get a ten man squad of marine next week, they will be my modelling "test" marines.
