So these i was shooting for more of the prototype Sniper drones in the beginning stage before they were mass produced into what they are. Hense why they look like that, In addition to trying to make they look a little more intimidating. War is 20% strategy and 80% Psychological, so the best way use the 80% would be to try to focus the enemies attention on something that looks scarier than it really is and keep their attention away from the real threat. And as for the Quad Cannon I was trying to make it look like a laser type of gun, but i think the rods make it look a little lame. But i want everyones feedback on both of these, is it ok? great? or absolutely hideous? ( i appreciate any and all opinions)

thanks

Top off those bases with a bit of detail so they dont look so mych like bases and id call them a win!

I like the prototype sniper with the green barrels. It has a anthropomorphic feel that definitely feels more malevolent and intelligent, and therefore a greater threat. Reminds me a bit of the bots in "The Black Hole".

I don't like the black bases used for the other drones though. Unless you can grind down the pebbled surface it will still just look like a miniature base. People have seen them too many times to not recognize them.

Yeah the bases kinda suck. I was thinking of using green stuff on top and try to make a dome or cut some small circles cutting a slice out of them and make a cone shape and placing on top but don't think a cone woud look decent. I'll have to go thru my bits and find something I can put on top.

And the green barreled one was my try of a quad cannon for the aegis defense line but tau isn't. I'd think some large drone of sorts.

If you want to detail the top, do one, make a press mould out of some more GS and then stamp the rest out.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I don't have the ability to do that. I'm a long haul trucker, don't have space to do it on the truck.

A sanding block might work for the top of the bases, just to get rid of the texture. You could round the edges a bit (like a bevel), and I bet that would be enough to make them less recognizable. A wide file would work too. Otherwise it's a lotta green stuff, which tends to work better for organic shapes than mechanical shapes.

Yes, I agree. Cut thin plasticard to add detail. A disc of plasticard and some small panels on top would do it.

or get some shield generator bits or drone tops and put them on.

I think the idea is neat, but yeah, need to conceal it obviousness of the bases a bit.

thanks for sharing, can't wait to see where you take it next!

Ran out of drone tops, why I used those. But like the plasticard idea. Thanks everyone for the ideas.

Here is an even cheaper (maybe even easier?) idea than plasticard:

1) get an index card or cardstock paper

2) flip the base upside down onto the card/cardstock and trace the base (tracing the small "top" on the paper)

3) cut out the circles, and trim as needed to sit the base

4) take the *thin* liquid super glue and soak the index/cardstock with it--soak it soak it soak it. Of course, make sure it stays in place.

5) let it dry, and it becomes as hard and paintable as plastic.

Idea modified after reading From the Warp (who also made Terminator armor from this stuff!!)

I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.

Oooh i love that idea, ill have to try that. Thanks!

I was thinking of using a card and cuting a small circle like that, then cuting a line from the outside to the center of the circle paper. Then to kind of fold it over to make a small cone shape and then gluing it to the top of the base, but a cone shape seems a little weird for tau, but will have to try it.
