Getting caught by the Epic bug I have tried to paint up some SM in the colors of my Iron Ghosts which can bee seen in the gallery section of my blog - the link is in the sig. I don't think I'll be able to keep with my fluff, but who cares it's just a game right
first a tactical unit for color test.

Started working on a drop pod yesterday - cannot help the need to build instead of paint it seems.

The drop pod out of plasticard is neat. How many stands have you got ready to use for this project?

The "bright" idea I had was using balsa wood, turned out it was a bigger task than I had imagined :roll: Actually the main problem was cutting 4 pieces that would look almost similar. Hence I ended up with this shape, it's not quite the classic one, but I'm sure that once I add some detailing it will look quite all right.

Bar a bit of weathering and basing, i finished my first ever unit of EPIC minis last night!!

I really love this Epic stuff - takes a few moments to paint up 20 minis, great - work very well for me

Been working on the droppod using different means of "stuffing" and ended out with a plastic solution - looks by far the best and was the easiest and fastest to build.

All right wanting to add some detail, to make it look somewhat cooler, the first step was changing the shape a bit and add some wider bits - stabilizers I think they are?
I have also been trying to add a fin - tested on the old piece - will have to be level with the edge though, and I'm not sure how much it really adds to the model.

Dude, that is really cool! By the way, have you also considered doing your AdMech stuff in epic scale?

I got these two of eBay, they can go for quite a bit, but with at little patience and a bit of cash you can get them

Last detail added to the pods, a little GS work to do around the edges, and perhaps some contour or a symbol on the doors.

I guess it is a bit out of scale, not too much - but just enough. Not sure I can match the detail level if I make it smaller, and not sure if I wan to go down that road.

I think it looks about right mate.

You need to remember the vehicles (I'm looking at that rhino) as smaller than they realistically should be to get 10 marines in.

It looks the right size to fit 5 of those termies in so as I say about right.

It misses a 'wing'! But no worry, it could just be another Mk or Pattern of Drop Pod! It does look like it can fit 10 marines in there.

I'm finally done with the plastic work, and ready for some paint.

Another piece to the puzzle. And some tactical markings.

I had ordered some stuff from a popular 3D printing service - first time for me - can't say I'm disappointed. Good quality and very fast delivery. Oh and tres cool.

How grainy are the models? Can't see it that well due to the material being sort of see through.

The surface is really smooth - if that's what you're referring to? I was a bit surprised by the quality actually - very good.

Nice attention to detail on the Land Raiders there and the weathering works well too. I am also impressed by the Shapeways stuff; it looks like it fits very well. Was it cost effective?

Makes me motivated to get my Epic stuff painted -I really should get off my backside and do some!

I'm surprised the Shapeways stuff looks so good, because apparently this is their Frosted Ultra Detail stuff, but look at those print lines and the grainy texture.

Thanks guys. I find the SW stuff really good actually. Most likely going to basecoat some of it to day, than we'll see how smooth the surface is.

Awesome thread. Makes me want to pull my finger out and paint up my epic stuff. Got loads of SM but, so far, only painted a Land Raider and 5 Termies. Undercoated a command stand and rhino about 8 months ago too but got distracted by other mini's. Job for tomorrow methinks.
