Some players in my area are complaining that my other table project is unrealistic budget wise and that INFINITY is a very expensive game because of the amount of scenery required. While I agree with them that my Yu Jing Military base is a Rich Man's Table (Its true that I have no budget limit. At 48 years old I think I'm entitled to do ONE freaking awesome table in my life?) I disagree that Infinity is expensive scenery wise. This thread will disprove their claim.

Today I'm starting another project. A civilian downtown area. My goal is to use only 1/8 (3mm) thick gray art board, wood glue, X-acto and spend a maximum of 60$ for 9 buildings.

Building #1 : Boutique with sky bar on the roof

Step One : Drawing of the floor plan on a 12"x12" base board. Building is 9"x9" with 1,5" wide sidewalks all around.

Step Two : The walls

Second Wall : The Boutique entrance

Window ledges are an easy way to add architectural depth to what would otherwise be just a piece of 1/8 cardboard with holes in it. Also using the Xacto knife you can create lines on the surface to emulate concrete molding patterns.

Shopping around I've found Infinity terrain isn't pricey at all, though that's mostly because in Australia we have BPLaser who do some fantastic, cheap terrain. A good looking Infinity table is easier to build and cheaper than a good looking 40k table.

The SkyBar (second floor) is taking shape :

@ -Loki- : I've been posting cheap threads terrain links in my local forum but I still hear the same argument... arrrrgh! In any case I'm having fun doing this project and if I can convince more players to join the Infinity community, all the better! Cheers!

Nice, going to follow this. As I'm starting maybe I can use some of your ideas to gather enough scenery for my first games to come

I really like the piece that supports the roof.

I built all of my Infinity terrain out of hobby plywood bases, foamcore and peterboro black-core. From the same store you shop at, apparently. I like the idea of artboard, but I feel the thickness of foamcore simulates wall insulation, structure and conduits a bit better, imho.

That being said, your building has a lovely fifties feel to it with the assymetrical roof on the skybar. Are you worried the board will bend when you paint it?

@ Mathieu Raymond: Its the future my friend!
The walls are made of a yet unknown material that is twice as resistant, isolated and with all the wiring integrated in the wall with plug and play connectors, hence the 1/8 thickness ! I don't plan on using a lot of paint. I chose the gray artboard specifically because of its concrete look. The paint I will apply will be drybrush only.

Where do you play? GV, CG or Abyss?

Signage :

Staircase is movable to access the interior : (I added support beams inside the building the prevent the top floor from warping)
