Had a game with a friend. 2k... my bad moon orks vs. (my) Space Wolves. More points than I usually like to play but Brian is a fan of larger games. Bought an expensive ork army that I thought was more in line with
SW army I had for him.
Space Wolves:
2 Wolf Priests with varying gear & upgraded psychics, jaws, living lightening... 2+ armor
1 Rune Priest (stock). 2+ armor
5 Wolf guard (frost axes and blades)
8 Grey Hunters (banner, melta,
PF) in Rhino
8 Grey Hunters (banner, melta,
PF) in Rhino
5 Long Fangs, 4
ML in las/
plas Razorback
5 Long Fangs, 4
ML Orks:
Gahzghull
Mega-armored Big Mek w/ extra
PK 15 Lootas
5 Nobz on bikes, includes 2
PK & pain boy
8 MegaNobz (as troops)
10 grots + runtherd
9 warbikes +
PK nob
3 rokkit buggies
3 kans w/ grotzooka
Game:
Vanguard deployment. D3 +2 objectives
Deployment:
I chose my board side and set up first. Right up to the line as a good ork should. My opponent uses the pyramid (area terrain) for his
ML squads and sets his
tac's behind the
ADL. Wolves and Razorback are in support. The random stuff barrier is an
ADL and the ork dreadnought there is actually acting as a quad gun (I forgot the
ADL so we had to improvise).
The wolves are intimidating on their hill. Like the Saxons overlooking the Norman horde at Hastings (we all know what happened there).
The orks surge across the field, but shooting yields very little effect. (What... you're surprised??) The rokkit buggies score 3 penetrating hits on the near rhino but the
ADL absorbs them all!
Return fire from the Space Wolves however, devastates the ork ranks... blowing up the battle wagon and a rokkit buggy. Killing a meganob, a kan, 2 bikers and stunning another rokkit buggy. The Space Wolves earn "First Blood".
Turn two sees the orks slowed and weekend but still closing. Shooting again does little... 2 Long Fangs and a rhino.
The Space Wolf retaliation sees another rokkit buggy blow up and a nob biker and meganob go down to shooting. The Thunderwolves charge forward to challenge the meganobs for the center of the table. They get wiped out but take Ghazzy with them (I can't believe he isn't undying or something). They earn "Slay the Warlord"
This is our last turn (3)... had to cut it short.
The orks swarm forward. The meganobs charge the rhino and quad gun... destroying both *probably* (we didn't have time to play this out but the odds would have been in favor of it). The nob bikes charge through the Aegis Line at the Grey Hunters, killing the librarian and 3 others.
The grots come in from reserve and sit on a rearward objective.
The Space Wolve's Rune Priest & wolf guard move over to claim an objective (thanks to a warlord trait).
We didn't play out the tactical marine scrum but I think it's reasonably safe to assume that the bikes and meganobs would at least have prevented either of those two Grey Hunter units from reaching the nearby objectives & scoring.
Unfortunately we had to pack up at this point... but it was a very fun game. Thanks Bruce!
OH, I forgot to tally the points!
Orks: 1 objective, linebreaker = 4 points
Space Wolves: 1 objective, first blood, slay the warlord = 5 points
Space Wolves win!
What didn't come out in the report is that as bad as my shooting and saving throw rolls were earlier in the game... my
JOTWW saving throw rolls (i.e. initiative rolls) were equally as pathetic... as in low. As a result,
JOTWW only claimed 2 or 3 figures during the whole game, even though the two wolf priests were tossing it about each and every turn.
