This is my second incarnation of a Deathwatch army. The first was a full "battle company" of Deathwatch that I sold off to a collector. Now I have decided to tackle it again, with my Salamanders HH army done. I have built the army to be flexible enough to use virtually any Chapter Tactics from Games Workshop or Forge World.

For the First Founding Chapters I am using a Storm Warden shoulder pad, I have also created an Honor Guard/Captain Squad that I can pull from for different tactics such as Black Templar, Red Scorpions, Carcharadons, etc. Ive also included a bunch of extra apothecaries with combi-weapons for when/if I run Red Scorpions. Still not sure on what to do for basing, but that will come later. With the exception of (9) Heavy Weapon Marines all shoulder pads are 3-D. Hvy Weapon marines I will paint on their shoulder pads. All Marines will be canon Space Marine Chapters.

As I finish each Unit, I will post and try to keep it going fast. Probably about a squad a week(ish). So first up is my "Chief" Apothecary (Red Scorpion), Master of Sanctity (Libator) and Watch Commander (Captain/Chapter Master) (Storm Warden).

Deathwatch Strike Force

Chapter Master/Captain: Storm Warden
(10) Captains/Honor Guard “Guardian”: Red Scorpions, Imperial Fist, Black Templar, Raven Guard, Carcharadons, Mantis Warrior, Excoriator, Fire Lords, Angels Revenant, Night Watch
Chief Librarian: Death Specter
Master of Sanctity: Libator
Master of the Forge/Techmarine: Blood Angel
Chief Apothecary: Red Scorpion
(4) Apothecary: Lamenter, Ultramarine, White Scars, Black Shield
(5) Command Squad:

(10) Sternguard Squad 1 “Mortis”: Blood Drinkers, Praetors of Orpheus, Genesis Chapter, Salamanders, White Scars, Exorcists, Shadow Wolves, Flame Eagles, Brotherhood of a Thousand, Dark Angels

(5) Sternguard Squad 2 “Noctis”: Blood Angel, Ultramarine, Dark Crusader, Iron Hands, Doom Eagles

(10) Tactical Squad 1 “Scorpion”: Crimson Fist, Dark Angel, Black Shield, White Consul, Eagle Warrior, Iron Hands, Ultramarine, Angels of Iron, Doom Legion, Warmongers

(10) Tactical Squad 2 “Hammer”: Patriarch of Ulixis, Relictors, Star Dragons, Sons of Orar, Space Wolves, Executioner, Angels of Fire, Minotaur, Mortifactors, Hawk Lords

(10) Tactical Squad 3 “Talon”: Blood Raven, Sons of Guilliman, Storm Giants, Aurora Chapter, Sons of Medusa, Lion Warriors, Fire Angels, Dark Hands, Imperial Paladins, Doom Eagles

(10) Tactical Squad 4 “Spear”: Death Eagles, Angels Encarmine, Black Guard, Dark Sons, Silver Skulls, White Templar, Fire Hawks, Emperors Hands, Howling Griffons, Revilers

(10) Tactical Squad 5 “Shield”: Soul Drinkers, Rainbow Warriors, Novamarines, Metamarines, Angels Vermillion, Dark Eagles, Subjugator, Warrior Adepts, Storm Callers, Skull Bearers

(5) Tactical Squad 6 “Exitus”: Hospitallers, Raptors, Black Templar, Metamarines, Angels of Redemption

(5) Devastator Squad 1 “Lance”: Angels Sanguine, Black Dragons, Yellow Jackets, Death Strike, Marines Malevolent

(5) Devastator Squad 2 “Storm”: Marine Exemplar, Red Legion, Imperial Paladin, Iron Knights, Imperial Fist

(3) Dreadnought: Ultramarine, Space Wolf, Blood Angel

(3) Centurion Devastator Squad: Imperial Fist, Death Knights, Red Wolves

Great thing about taking pictures, you can see what needs to be cleaned up or enhanced

Thanks. Next up will be the chief librarian and master of the forge. After that I'm stuck on where to start. It will probably be all heavy weapon marines so I can free hand all in one get go and that fact they will take the longest.

Will you be doing characters for each of the Chapter Tactics?

almost all. I think I left out Minotaur, Raptor, Executioners, Red Hunters, Star Phantoms and Astral Claws. They have been left out mainly cause I don't have enough 3-D shoulder pads for them. In the long run I will get them, but for now I am passing on those.

Though I feel my painting skills are up to the task I don't like to paint chapter symbols, I prefer the raised ones. I know I can get 3-D shoulder pads for all but Star Phantoms but that is for later.

I just added to the first post my master list of Chapters by unit, etc. With the exception of Howling Griffon and Shadow Wolves (pads are being stripped of paint) and the Mantis Warrior (being repaired) all are built and ready for play and paint.

Didn't want to wait, been awhile since I tried free handing. These 2 need touch up work but you get the idea. Thankfully, I only have 8 more to free hand and the ones chosen are easier.

So I went ahead and painted one tactical marine with Star Dragon symbol and a Captain/Honor Guard with the Night Watch symbol. Once again, Im glad for cameras cause I can see what needs to be cleaned up.

Not really a painting update but as I have built all the infantry already, I decided to do a little converting on the centurions. Not a big fan of the poses, so Im converting in some simple ways. here is the first of 3.

For these I cut just the right leg along the inner pelvic side. Lengthened the right leg with a quick green stuff patch job with a small pin and like wise for the leg to pelvis connection.

The final pose will have a about a 1/2" longer torso made of green stuff and covered up with the groin plates as somewhat seen in the last picture. Gives the static pose model a bit more life.

Looks great! Are you going to use Contemptors to represent your Dreads, or just regular ones?

Going to use Contemptors. I have 3 right now, just need to strip paint from my HH Salamanders (which has 7). Models are already posed, magnetized, just need to be stripped and repainted.

Yes. Will post tomorrow a squad shot. However, I am holding off on finishing line highlighting the black and adding back packs. That's an assembly line process I follow.

Still got to get pictures up, Im finishing up 3rd squad right now and will post a bunch of photos hopefully tonight. I played a game yesterday (1850) and they performed quite well.

I ran into a problem keeping who was in what squad, so I named the squads and will paint an appropriate symbol on knee pads (or shin guards for mark 6) so I can keep it coherent. Oh and I found a bunch of left over bodies, plus the extra bits laying around from new sternguard and tactical squad boxes, I was able to make a heavy bolter devastator squad, another 5 man tactical and sternguard squad.

Adding in more. Third Squad this time.

So starting with the Sergeant: Blood Raven, Sons of Guilliman and another Black Shield.

Aurora Chapter and Sons of Medusa

Lion Warriors, Iron Angels and Doom Eagles

Imperial Paladins and Dark Hands

Some of these Im pleased with, the others I will have to go over and touch up. I've got fourth squad up next, at least 1/2 of them and then its off for a week.

I agree. My timing was perfect with this project. Im working on a little modeling project to include an inquisitor (for divination purposes) and after the army is done, Im going to work on a warband or two.

Some new additions. This is Tactical Squad 4 (and a finished Multi-Melta for squad 3)

Decided after this squad I will start on rest of my 2k list while waiting for custom bases. I don't want to highlight and it rub off as I transfer to new base.

Death Eagles, Angels Encarmine (forgot to highlight batwings), Black Guard

Dark Sons, Silver Skulls, Storm Giants

Another update.

Devastator Squad 1 - with exception of Sergeant, the rest of the symbols had to be hand painted. I intended to practice first but I forgot, now I gotta go in and tighten up the paint.

Angels Sanguine (modified symbol), Black Dragons, Yellow Jackets (yes they are a canon chapter)

Death Strike and Marines Malevolent...after seeing these, I gotta go back in and touch up paint job on symbols

I doubt I will uses Sgt. Garadon from Sentinels of Terra supplement but I made him anyways. I will likely use the rules but not include him.
