Still working on my shield eternal, just applied some technical on my purity seals. What are your thoughts? Any tips or suggestions? *Note im still painting the rest of the model*
I still have to put the fiber optics in the dark "holes" in the ribbons and put some gold in the center of the badge on the ribbons.

I think you might be able to squeeze a few more purity seals on there... I see some open space on the top of the shield.

XD i ran out of seals! But i like the flat space, i feel like it makes it keep the feel of a shield versus a wad of seals lol

I'd add a single purity seal to his hammer. Just for fun
|
1400 points of EW/MW Italians (FoW)
2200 points of SoB and Inquisition (40K)
1000 points of orks (40K)
Just starting out with Ultramarines (30K)
Four 1000-2500 point forces for WHFB (RIP)
One orc team (Blood Bowl) |

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster
|
I can understand the rationale but covering it in purity seals like that just seeks wayyy too busy. Not to mention a fire hazard.
Think about it
If that guy's going to be in the thick of fighting there's a good chance he's going to get set on fire at least once. That means all the parchment is going to go up like a match, all the wax is gonna melt, and at the end of the battle the scribes are going to re-write all that nonsense and stick it back on. It's wasteful.
I recently built up a Chapter Master for one of my own armies with a Shield Eternal. I used a big-ass Vampire Counts shield. No markings on it, no sigils or decoration, I just liked the contours of it. It looked suitably archaic, very old world in its presentation, and when I found it in my bits box it got my thinking.
Maybe the shield eternal isn't a specific shield. Maybe it's just the shield that the Chapter Master or some other central figure happens to be using at the time. The shield itself isn't anything special, what matters is what it represents to the one carrying it.

Nonsense, it is the righteous fire of the Emperor's Righteous Vengence of Righteousness!
In all seriousness, I like the OTT style of the OP.

Started adding some texture to break up the ribbons on the seals. Going to add some gold centers to the purity seals later tonight.
Also i need to add some scripture to them but im struggling on how i should do that. Any suggestions?
And my take on it is that each one is a blessing of a courageous act in battle. So why wouldnt the chapter master *or since in my case i play iron hands, my Iron Father* who bears the shield eternal be the most pure marine in the galaxy besides the emperor himself?

For scripture on the seals you can use (A) a very fine fine-liner pen or (B) the smallest brush you have with a very sharp point to trace very small lines of very diluted paint.
And awesome stuff that you are doing a freehand on the cloak.
p.s. I know that there are a lot of very's in this post

Aren't purity seals fluffwise a vow to accomplish something and get slapped on just before launch/attack?
Example: "I totally vow to kill every man, woman, child, animal or xenos scum that I see on my way to the mission objective or die trying! YOLO!"
As such, this guy either made a separate vow for each baby-step hes going to take or he's a slacker with leftover to-do items.

Those are Oaths of the Moment. Purity Seals are applied by a Chaplain to show a devoted righteous purity above and beyond others.
That said, he could have taken several.
To uphold the honour given by the shield.
To never lower his shield until the enemy lies broken and bloody.
To defend the Imperium with all his Emperor-given might.
To be the Shield of his Chapter.
To be the anvil on which the Xenos be broken
etc.

To run with that a little farther, you could view all those seals as a “Book of Grudges” type list of things-to-do that need to be accomplished by the bearer. Tying back to the “eternal” part of the shield. Pesky farseer got away? Make a note, slap it on the shield. If you can’t get it done, the next bearer might. Some of them might be outstanding from back in the heresy...

I just view it as the life of my character. I've had this model for about 10 years and there are still pieces of it that remain after all the things that have happened in my life. The cape and backpack are over ten years old *given i had to repair minor damage on it such as a few chips* with their origional paint jobs, and to celebrate the model and his accomplishments as well as ones in my personal life, i remodeled his shield to hold what i view more as badges of honor or trial.
Idk plus i feel like with the fiber optics *curse you a thousand times standard shipping!* that im going to put on it will make it look more badass and not so monotonous.
