I like it except for the fact that the side doors won't open anymore. Even if you brought the bottom of the grill up somewhat, the door would still not lay flat, and, worse, every time the door opens it's going to slam down on that grill, probably bending it up some.

I like the idea of billy armor, but in the crude world of improvised vehicle plating, form really does need to follow function.

I thought the doors on a Predator served very little function anyway? It doesn't carry passengers and the crew can get in via the top hatches. I figure it's a convenient way of loading and getting access to the mechanical parts at best. The rear hatch should be enough for that.

its a tank so no one is dismounting anyway

Like this. Can imagine it as a crusade era vehicle enforcing compliance on various human world's!
Cool- whilst I understand the comment on the doors, I can also understand that many a original design has had field modifications that don't fit with its original STC...and saving the vehicle from an explosive is probably more important than protecting the crew with an escape...even space marines maybe.

I agree with Hyglar. I love this idea. Makes 40k battles, fluff, and Imperial armies more realistic and gritty. The Predator reminds me more of a Space Marine MBT or AFV than a transport, even though it has those side doors, which are really supposed to have sponson weapons anyway

Tech heresy is the worst kind of heresy.

There you go. You'd get to keep the +1 coolness from the billie armor, and an additional +1 for having your predator tank with gull friggin wing doors.

Perfect Organism wrote: It doesn't carry passengers and the crew can get in via the top hatches.

Sure... but.

Imagine that you have a humvee, and all it was going to be used for was driving cargo around. Do you think they'd weld all the doors shut? After all, the driver and cargo could come in through the top hatch.

I mean, I guess I could possibly see it for the sides, but only if the back door opened, but it sort of suffers from the same problem.

Tech heresy maybe if they ALTERED the divine machine form. But attaching the new STC temporary armour? And the correct prayers? Fine
Plus it's a raptors rhino...I mean the red scorpions altered the landraider into that whirlwind type..

Oh right... I forgot about heresy (heresy on my part). If they're not messing around with the machine spirit and keep using the correct rites and prayers, I think external modifications are fine if it enhances possibility of survival and slaying more foes in the Emperor's name

Who cares if the armour would get beat up every time the door opened, rule of cool, and in this case it's very cool!

Ailaros...

Point me to very many battle tanks that have access doors on the side or rear for the most part (let alone both). Most have them on top via hatches & on bottom occasionally. The predator is the closest thing the codex has for a battle tank. I mean there's only one hatch into/out of a leman russ. The original metal vindicators had both side & rear doors covered with armor.

The Israeli Merkava is the only MBT that I can think of with an ability to transport soldiers, but the ramp/door (its almost a hole to be honest) for the infantry to dismount is in the rear of the tank.

Yup. The hatch is pretty small and depressed into the armor and surrounding gubbinz from what i've seen. Hard to spot when closed. Wouldn't make much sense for power-armor wearing giants though.

Which is also why I don't understand how 10 Space Marines can fit in a Rhino!

Maybe a ad hoc dozer blade upfront, kind of to clear obstaclebe with slat armour above below cannon firing line for extra protection

Looks great.

And with the ramps, they don't always have to open all the way down until they touch the ground.

With it open parallel to the ground I'm sure a Space Marine would still be able to get in and out easily enough. And the vehicles are purpose built for Space Marines so I'm sure the ramp could take the weight

I like! I've always seen the Predator as more of a 40k Bradley anyways.
