Subject: Scratch building a warhound titan, any advice?

So the other day I came across a template for scratch building warhound titans and I know I've seen a few on dakka so I was hoping for some advice from the plastic card guys and girls out there.
I already started by getting both 1mm and 2mm thickness sintra expanded PVC off of ebay, and 1/2" and 3/4" PVC pipe for the joints. Then did a mock up with some paper to get an idea of the difficulty level and I think I can pull it off.
Here's the mock up:
Here's a link to where I got the template:

I've built this model myself actually. I'd recommend not making the legs from card unless it's going to purely be a display piece because they will start to sag after awhile of being handled. Also make sure to add lots of extra details to it or it gets kinda bland.

I think you could probably overcome the first issue with some reinforced internal structure. Hollow forms don't handle mechanical stress all that well.
As for the details, well, that's up to your madskills.

I'm building the same model ATM out of Plastikard
My biggest tip would be to sort of ignore the plans they don't work great with Plastikard the tabs being the main issue.
I ended up measuring the top and bottom of each piece then subtracting the thickness from the side pieces and glueing together
If you stick to the sizes they give you for all the pieces you end up with gaps

How is the end result for scale?
I was planning on adding tabs to help make the model stand up to a few games. I saw that a lot of guys who've used this template use cardboard but I wasn't sure that would hold up to well.

They look awesome what size did you get?
I've been using these 2mm self adhesive rhinestones for rivets
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300-x-2mm-small-mixed-colour-stick-on-Jewels-gems-Self-adhesive-mix-rhinestones-/321422482413?pt=UK_Crafts_Embellishments_SM&hash=item4ad645dbed
I did a post with some results here http://paintstationforge.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/looking-fabulous-darling.html
While great for industrial terrain the warhound would probably benefit from smaller subtler results and at 99p for 1000/1500 in a bag Scorpiodragon's option looks like a steel (I might have to grab a couple of different sizes to play with). Though if you do want to have the rivets exaggerated the 2mm ones I linked above should work well and since they are self adisive they are so easy to get into place before needed any glue to strengthen the bond.
As for using plasticard Soitra's advice about the tags is solid. you wont be able to get the tags in plasticard as they will just snap off if you score joins and be tough to get a clean result otherwise. Using chunks of sprue can work well and add extra strength to a model, just be aware that the sprue sections are not square so some cutting and shaping is needed.

I built the whole model from thick card stock a few years ago, Overall the size and shape compare nicely to the Forge World Warhound, but sadly as mentioned above, the cardstock just didn't last. I've been clearing my workspace slowly over the past few months with the intention of having another go with plasticard, will be following this. Have you seen Blackadders warhound build? I'd recommend a read of that to see what can be achieved if you have the ambition!

I got 1mm ones to use as rivets, I thought anything bigger might be just out of place.

That's a good idea, sprue supports.
@ Hereticdave, I'm using thick plasticard to build this one and so far it seems sturdier then I thought it would be. I was expecting to need supports through out the whole model. It's not pretty yet but that's what trim and green stuff is for.

What do you guys think of using the dark talon/ jet fighter cockpit for the warhound cockpit?
Btw this is just a googled image.

I am very interested in seeing WIP pictures along the way, but I am not sure I would think it worth the time to build one myself. It seems very hard to get the detailing proper so it doesn't feel naked.

Nice start so far, the cockpit looks like it will be a good fit. Could I just point out that the plans you are using (as will I soon) don't take into account the longer middle toe on the feet? I'm not sure if you are worried about how accurate they are but I thought I'd point it out before you got any further with it.
