I decided to make a thread for my upcoming orc tide! I am going to try and incorporate various raider/looting/conquering themes. The biggest is basing my savage orcs on the wc I & II style.

The picture is small, but I'm going for minimal armor, axes, mongolian styled helmets, fur boots/gloves. Since they are also savages I will be doing various tattoos with some being chaos influenced (I have a back story relating to tzneentch I'm working on). I also plan on making a troll unit made from various "monstrous infantry" slaves; minotaur/ogres/rat ogres/etc. I have plenty of ideas for this army, just need time and money.

If you're interested in close ups for my orc savage conversions check out the WIP I started here. I'll be posting the newer ones as I finish them (still waiting on spell crow for my heads). Voila here is the unit shot currently,

I have also been working on a warboss, he's not done as I need a small personal banner & a decapitated head. I would love some suggestions for a decapitated head. I've added a map, how else would a conquering warboss know where to stomp next ! He's also huge, I didn't realize how big the base model was until I got him, easily towering over your average orc. They call him Krungle Da Konquer.

Size comparison,

He never leaves for a conquest without his handy dandy map.

Chains aren't too hard, this is the way I found how to do them. This isn't the only way, but this method can be applied directly to the models (it's just a bit harder than a flat surface).

The first step is to roll out a little log of greenstuff, make sure it is a bit smaller than what size you want your chains. I found a pretty cheap sculpting set, you'll need a pointy end and a flat spade like end. You could easily get away with using a toothpick & hobby knife

Next step is to section it off into little squares using your hobby knife or sculpting tool

Next you will want to take your hobby knife or sculpting tool and smash down the edges between squares, where you made sections in the previous step,

Next you'll want to take your toothpick or sculpting tool and poke a hole in the middle of each section.

By this point you should start seeing the chain, roll out another log of greenstuff. Preferably smaller than your first log, so that it fits inside the holes you made

Almost done, you now want to line the new log of greenstuff up ontop of your WIP chain. Poke the new log down into the holes using your toothpick or sculpting tool.

Finally, since chains are more oval than circle, I go ahead and take a tool to push in the sides of the chain a little. Not too much though, just enough to 'oval' it out.

Looking forward to seeing this progress, and thanks for the small chain tutorial, might have to try that with the DE I am working on to add some interesting details to it(once I can get money for GS and sculpting tools).

Best place for a set of sculpting tools is amazon, I got my set of 12 stainless steel for 5 bucks. GS is also pretty cheap.

Hopefully this army blog gets rolling, finally got my old BT army sold and I can really start funding this project.

Thats not a bad price at all! Cant wait for payday then to help add to my slowly but ever growing collection of miniatures and miniature P&S accessories.

Small update, I'm still waiting on some shipments to come in. I did finish up the grunt work of the greenstuff, pardon the pun. I just need to fit on the heads once they arrive and add arms. I'm also waiting on some primer/paints to get in. I am making progress, slow as it feels.

Time for an actual update. My order from SpellCrow finally came in. These head sculpts are awesome . They also felt it was needed to give me some free torsos, which are just as cool. They're limited on fantasy swaps, but have plenty of 40k bits.

Almost done with the first 10 savage orcs, can't wait to paint these guys.

In the mean time, while I was waiting for these bits to come in, I whipped up these bad boys.

Long time needed update. I have finished painting 5/10 of my boyz, and another surprise. I'm waiting for a competition to finish before I post everything. This is a side project I just started, going to be my BSB, still needs some work.

Glad you enjoy the greenstuff work, can't wait to get my infantry models up here.

The BSB is coming along nicely. Haven't figured out how I want to attach the shield yet. This will most likely be my model for the advent calendar over on Da-Warpath, so expect him painted on the 20th!

Here's a slightly un-orcy update. With christmas coming up I decided to do something different this year for my Dad. I found this miniature and I know my Dad loves Conan, hoping this turns out nicely! Also if anyone knows where I could get a nice big base for him let me know! I'm planning on going to home-depot because that's the only place I know that might have one.

I also got these two bad boys in the mail. I'm going to strip them once I get some simple green. The one on the left is going to be the standard bearer and the right is going to be my big boss. On Sunday I'll go ahead and give everyone a good look at my savage orc boyz!

So finally, here are some of the boyz I've been painting. I'm fairly slow with the process, school and work take up a lot of time. This is the first time I've painted this much orc skin, so any tips are very helpful. Hope you all enjoy, I will be finishing the other 4. After that I will probably take a break from orcs and do some of my goblins.

I will post my entry from the contest later, even though it is technically over. Maybe the connections aren't as obvious as I think.

This is the first one I painted. I don't know if it is too obvious in the pictures, but his skin is a bit lighter. All of the boyz eyes are red, the lighting in my apartment is not the best for pictures.

This is the most recent addition, I'm trying different techniques for the fur and skin. I also would like if anyone has some ideas for the boots, they seem a bit flat, like the skin.

With the competition over here's a little update. I'll be doing some more over break. I really want to get this black orc BSB done, but still haven't decided on a color scheme for my black orcs.

My entry for the DWP CC 10. It was a great compeition, everyone's entry were wonderful. If you want to check it out, click Here.

Here's my most recent boy, I went a little less heavy on the wash this time around, I really think it helped the recesses to look more green and less black.
