If it's not too late, I reckon you do either Sallies or Dark Angels. I say Salamanders because I think the scheme you did on Vulkan is absolutely amazing, and would love to see you do up a whole army of Salamanders, but I say DA because they're my favourite legion by far and I think it'd be awesome to see them (also you'd definitely show up my incoming 30k Angels )

Hey guys, thanks for the input not sure where to add some black accents on them yet? I'm guessing Whaley is expecting them I have already added some Ard coat to those lenses but may add some more coats to get it nice and glossy and look thick

I'm really keen to do sallies as 30k and have a funny feeling they will look stunning in that green! and since it doesn't take long to do I get to spend more time on the flame and lava motifs

I was given a model by a friend of mine to paint whenever I got a chance, he wanted it to represent a Brood lord for his Tyranids, the stipulations were it needed to stand out and look earthy, so I gave him lighter skin and red blended accents with a glossy pinkish red maw, I think he looks pretty cool for an hours attention and i hope he likes him!







started playing around with the Plasma mortar for the Thanatar too, I want to try and get a 'powering up' or particles coming together sort of look? you lose the effect a bit with the cover on but I know it's there

I love the stealer skin. But I love the energy plasma thing even more !
I'll probably steal this idea someday !

I've been wracking my head trying to decide what to do with the plasma mortar. The 'powering up' effect looks awesome. The hood ring for the mortar that will cover that up a bit - have you thought about opening it up; like petals. Seen a few folk online have done that. Makes it look like its about to fire

Who needs LED's when you can paint like that.

Energy looks amazing, and the genestealers "mouth" looks bloody awful in the best way possible.

Ohh, plasma charge looks cool. Definitely get the charging up a big shot look ala Gundams. Maybe something like this for adding black?

Added it to the back side of the front half of the shoulder pad, offset on the groin, and on the forearm plate, to break up the metals. Behold and cower at my MS paint skillz!

Damo, your brilliant. One of the most innovative painters on Dakka. The gene stealer is inspired. Who wouldn't love that figure in their army? The mortar effect is equally so and utterly unique in my considerable experience. I will be trying to replicate it on mine.

Those robots are coming up lovely Damon ! The 2 shades up orange really contrasts well with the grungy scratched metal, blue was the best lens colour choice , looks stunning my friend !

O.k I can see how some black will add a bit of Ooomph to the big guys, I shall add a stripe to the pad and a stripe to the groin to start and see how it looks took me a while to reply as I had to claw my way back into the room after being blown away by Whaley's MS Paint skills!

Now for a little finished model action! gotta say I really love this guys paint job, I want him as an objective marker or fleeing imperial soldier. I left his base very basic on purpose with just a grey and oily black wash so I can use him on an urban board when it arrives!

Can I get a bit mushy on you guys for a minute? I really want to touch on how a few people have (over the years I've been plogging) mentioned me 'Pushing boundaries' or 'doing things i've never thought' and I only have tried new things because of you, I appreciate the time you spend logging on and actually being a part of my blog and during the early stages I saw some great techniques and brilliant artists doing things that looked so good but I didn't want to 'try' and copy them and end up doing a sub par job that you could see better on someone else's blog, this kind of led me to trying to bend the look of what was done commonly in effect and application to give you something new and hopefully something that actually looks cool and makes you want to do it yourself! nothing I do is particularly hard to replicate or time consuming and I will continue to stay the course with my painting style and endevour to give you guys something cool and a place to talk and bounce ideas and your own methods with each other! so thank you for your loyalty and candor with everything I do and thank you for staying around from the start!

You know, I have that guy (and his stupid crashed plane) but never really gave him a chance. Definitly painted him up nice, could make for some fun custom scenarios for you to play.

Adding that layer of Orange looks great, really helps them pop.

But no seriously brilliant work on the robots. The watered down blue ash works really well for verdigris.

The Mechanicum Automata look amazing. Really love your take on worn metal on them. The genestealer also looks cool as well. That Plasma Mortar effect is inspired, though. Fantastic work.

not much to say about the next glut of piccies for you, but I got working on Thanatar #2 and got his orange up to level then popped him next to his brother to see how they looked and they look GOOOOOD!

Just a little comment on the Genestealer to get this out of the way: EEEEEEE-EW! That mouth looks nasty. Very nice job and a cool, different colour scheme.

Those AM dudes look really, really cool Love the scratched metal effect you did there. The whole metal looks very nice, but those scratches add so much to the believability of the surfaces. Very cool idea.

I echo Sigur's comments. He really looks massive and imposing too. And WM's ideas about the black actually worked out. Who'd a thunk it??

The powering-up effect on the gun rocks. If it's not too late, maybe adding some light shine on the inner ring of the muzzle? to reinforce it even a bit more?

Cheers guys, i'm really enjoying painting them up and after a complete re arrange of my Nerd lair and boxing up of my models for storage so it's all neat and tidy I'm feeling a bit more 'into it' again. The light's better with my desk around the other way and the morning sun isn't oppressive so I can paint at my favorite time of day :-)

I'm going to do some weathering on the orange parts next, I had intentions of going full nasty on them but I think now seeing them like this at this stage I'll pull back and do some paint chips and just some edge weathering? I have it in my head that the main armour plates are changeable and the enginseers swap them out after too much damage, thus leaving the main robotic body more scratched while the fresher armour begins anew?
