yeah, There has been growing interest in BFG at my local club. I've decided to get involved and choose my grots as the army I'd buy a fleet for Here's what I got. 8 cruisers (more on that later) 24 onslaught 15 ravagers 9 savages 12 rams I plan on making some conversions to the fleet to make it more grot like. Primarily making ears for the ships. Here they are after their first bath in detol. Second bath tonight to remove the final sticky residue. All parts are present and correct for the escorts. However the Cruisers however have weird body gun combinations. 1 terror body 5 terror guns 7 kroozer bodies 3 kroozer guns. I can build 4 correct ships. 1 terror and 3 Kroozers. I then have 4 spare Kroozer bodies and 4 spare terror guns. My plan is convert some kroozer bodies into terrors. It's Just a different jaw line and tail. So my first questions are. How do I fly a ORK fleet? What do these ships do!? What size squadrons should I run? 3? 5? Mixed squadrons? Panic...

How do you fly an ork fleet?
Well, the best answer to that question is aggressively. Ork ships are tough with lots of guns and firepower and are best used in groups as a battering ram basically, rammed right down the throat of the enemy fleet.
I run orks from time to time and have faced them with Imperial Navy. The way I handle orks is to divide and conquer. Single out one ship or squadron and pummel them til their armor breaks. Torpedoes and nova cannons are my friends when it comes to table control. Just like everyone else, Orks don't like salvoes of torpedoes,
If I can use these to herd you into asteroids it really helps. Also I'll slow down and maximize my 6+ prow armor and long range firepower to try to whittle you down before you are able to close the gap.
As a Space Marine player I'll use speed and maneuverability to get in and wreck your day with hit and run attacks and attack craft. Space Marines are relatively quick and agile but not super tough, they lack the 6+ prow but can put up a good fight, even able to soak a good amount of damage.

yeah,
Thanks for the low down.
I found this article and it basically says as many Kroozers and ordnance as you can cram into a list!
To which end I've Been busy converting 3 Kroozers into terrors.
So I will have 4 Terrors and 4 Kroozers.
Will do some photos once they are finished.
Panic...

Back when there was a fair bit of BFG stuff floating around, I butchered Imperial and Chaos cruisers and made them into Kill, Terror, Heavy Kroozers and Battleships

yeah, I think Later I will be looking for a couple of cheap imperial ships to bash into battleships. Much later . So my problem was I had 7 Kroozers and only one terror So I clipped the tail tip and removed the teeth + nose from 3 Kroozers. And gave them a new resin faces and tails, copied from the Terror. Kroozers on the right and Terrors on the left The bottom three Terrors being the conversions from Kroozers Almost ready for assembly and paint. I need to fix the nose guns on the new Terrors and cast new set of wings for the bottom Kroozer. Panic...

My fleet uses Imperial ships with Epic gargant heads replacing the prows. I hacked and moved things around on the Imperial hulls to make them asymmetrical. I always peferred the idea of Orks retrofitting captured ships rather than custom buildng their own like the metal kroozers seem to portray better.

I never cared for the official bfg ork models tbh. I always felt they looked too perfect in terms of design & construction. It's a spaceship with guns, armor, & engines. That's all orks care about. It doesn't have to be able to fly in atmosphere so aerodynamics & physics including gravity are out. In fact I'd be surprised if ork ships actually had gravity. Seems like an orkish thing to eschew in favor of guns & armor.

Funny you should mention that, I tried to build some Ork ships using e-waste, but they were way out of scale and detail (cruisers were about twice as big as the official models). Then went for something slightly smaller, then tried something in SketchUp.
I felt the official models looked more like goldfish rather than scary hulks. Zenith has made some cool designs though!

How's this for an Ork-ified Imperial cruiser? Supposed to be the Hammer class Eavy kroozer, but I call it Da 'Orned Reapa. "Da Bridge" is made from a metal Black Orc standard top IIRC. Has an Epic scale Earthshaker cannon for the Nova Cannon and the prow Torpedo tubes from the Ork Battleship kit (I swear those things are like a gold mine for bits) **Edit: Helps if I attach the image...

Kinda reminds me of the Reaver fleet from Serenity- nice! In the BFG Armada book the Hammer Battlekroozer was IIRC originally a Mars Class cruiser ( May be wrong)

What do you mean Space Marines lack the 6+ prow? Battle Barges and Strike Cruisers are 6+ all around. Our escorts are 5+. Only capital ship exception would be 1 venerable battle barge, which could be any Imperial or Chaos capital ship.
Space Marines don't like volume of fire, which orks do put out.
One game I faced off against 1500 points of Roks. All roks. He rolled really well one turn, there were over 150 torpedos placed on the table.

You think that's bad? Try going up against a 3rd Sphere Tau Fleet(FW). LOTS of torpedoes. And Tau torps can be steered (at the risk of losing some I'll admit, but I do quite well). Think it's something like Firepower 6 from their basic Cruiser. Sadly not much use up close but that's what you get for being an underdog race in 40k I guess.

I've seen Tau in action, although it was the hanger bay spam list instead. They launched enough Bombers to one round an Ark Mechanicus.

I find roks and a hulk are vital for my Orks. The Hulk especially with its local gravity field! Very easy to scratchbuild as well.

Hmm, it's a bummer that the Ork list is rather limited. From personal experience the Kill Kroozers are kinda useless, what you want to stick to it Terror Ships; their cargo is super deadly. Also, don't hesitate to upgrade the ships to carry torpedoes as well. As for escorts, Ravagers are the only real useful ones, once again: it's a torpedo thing. Brute Ram Ships are nice if you have a few extra points to spend.

If you get your Kill Kroozers at all ahead full (which I think they pass automatically as they need little encouragement!) then you can do some major damage. To be honest though you use Kill Kroozers to soak up the enemy firepower and have your escorts do the work. The Savage gunship is quite good if you roll well enough. Downside to playing orks is that you can't fire torpedo volleys from a squadron.

Man, you should try to get your own ordnance, models look nicer than tokens! Here some suggestions:
- 'Heavy fighters'
- Orbital mines
- Blast markers
- More blast markers
- Turrets
- Torpedoes
- Assaults boats

Yeah,
Right now I want to give the game a good go and see how it fares
So these tokens are great.
I printed off some ork and imperial tokens for tomorrow's game.
Those shapeways are too expensive...
Shame the don't have a mixed option so players can buy and recast.
Depending on how gripped I get by the game? I think I will scratch build and cast my own ordance in time.

I noticed that the stuff by Grim Dark Bits is rather pricy, I already contacted him about it. Thing is that Shapeways recently upped the prices of materials which used to be really cheap, which is kinda odd since their superior material (FUD) has become a lot cheaper because of it.
As for making your own, maybe these will inspire you! Automatically Appended Next Post: By the way, just spoke with Grim Dark Bits, he'll be updating his shop, meaning the prices of his bits will be decreasing greatly!

I printed out the GW tokens and glued them to cereal box cardboard. So Torpedoes are in a line of however many were launched.

Yeah, We played a 750pts who can cause the most damage game. I had 3 cruisers and 6 escorts. He had 2 cruisers 2 mini cruisers and 3 escorts. Many rules were missed for most if the game. But by the end of it we had a good grasp of things. We ran out of time around turn 4 or 5. We counted up hull damage inflicted including escorts popped. I lost 18/23 damage inflicted. Panic...
