Building a VSG (been meaning to). Plan is to use spackle (and Eldar bits) so it looks like enhanced stone. /shrug While sporting a different 'shape', my VSG does have almost exactly the same amount of area (actually a little less after the 3 buttresses are installed) for the two 'battlements' as compared to the GW model. The thing so far (p.s. I freaking hate Windows 10):

This looks awesome so far! I'm always impressed when people can achieve scratchbuilds with Eldar stuff since it's usually so curvy.

One note: I recently covered up some foam terrain with plaster of paris (not sure if it's the same as spackle) and while it gave me a really nice texture, It is very brittle and chips easily. Just a thought in case the spackle acts the same way.

Thanks!

This VSG has to last through 2 tournaments (Dragonfall and Renegade Open). I imagine that anything is liable to crack (even paint, if it's too thick) since the plasticard and foam core are flexible/smushible. I'm going to try to use the spackle just as a texture so it's not so flat. We'll see how it turns out!

Update: Foam core sealed & textured with vinyl spackle. Will sand, spray and drybrush. Eldar bits still to be added. Did not texture the plasticard base, just the buttresses and battlements.

That is pretty cool. I would be interested to see the final product.

Man....those are some nice clean lines on the plasticard.

What did you use to cut it?

Looks like foamcore not plasticard.

Nice model. Would it be churlish to point out that Eldar don't use void shields?

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Yes, yes it would.

As for the 'clean lines': You're too kind. Everything but the vertical walls of the cylinder are foamcore, cut with my crappy, just dull enough to be annoying but not annoying enough to swap out the blade, x-acto knife. The cylinder at the bottom is two round foamcore pieces with a long piece of plasticard glued around it. That was fun--almost lost a fingerprint.

On a side note: Was winning a lot before I started using it. Am still winning a lot. The only noticeable difference is the frustration level (for my opponents) has gone up a notch or two. Losing friends fast. /wink
