As the title says, provided by my new, eager, GW FLGS manager. Pointing this out so folk can order the respective amount of salt.

In a nutshell, Chaos Space Marines "some point this month" and Tyranids "soon". No info on the former, though the nid dex will mostly be collating all data sheets in to one book, and providing formations.

Nothing to write home about, I know, though would rather share the info for you to decide it's validity before buying either of those codexes.

Was also told that AOS dwarves will be getting g chaos dwarves and fire dwarves, though I timed out on asking for further info on these.

Actually, I can back up CSM rumours somewhat. Recently a GW store near me had a post-Christmas party. In the lead up for Christmas every £50 spent gave you 1 loyalty stamp to be spent on various lucky dips or events including staff gaming nights. One of the things offered for 5 stamps was a sneak preview at the next army of your game system to be updated, information which was apparently provided by GWHQ. Now, the previewers were sworn to secrecy on threat of permanent ban from the store, but I knew one particular guy who I decided to question. I asked "is it this, is it that" and he shook his head each time, and said "I'm not allowed to tell you." But when I said "Chaos," he simply said "I'm not saying anything." Before going back to his usual response. Now, I didn't press as to what type of Chaos it was, whether AoS, 40k, Heresy, Daemons, Marines, Daemonkin. Could be any. I did ask "when" to which he said "soon-ish" and then followed by "few weeks maybe."

Sketchy, I know, but I know and trust this guy and the info has apparently come from HQ, so maybe not as big a pinch of salt as you'd be inclined. If I were a gambling man I'd be saying Chaos in some form announced last week of January.

I had a dream a few days ago, after a heavy orujo crème drinking night. During my dream, I was psychically contacted by Tom Kirby himself. He confirmed a new CSM codex will indeed be released very, very soon. New kits will include plastic Havocs riding on hoverboards and an armless Abaddon riding a flaming chariot entirely made of skulls.

My dreams are usually prophetic in nature so no salt here, boys, tis all true. I swear.

*sigh*
I know it's kool and all to constantly troll Chaos players about getting a new book every other week, but c'mon guys! We have Sad Panda who's come right and said "no new Chaos Marine codex this year" already.

Nice try though, but we're not falling for Loyalist scum's favourite joke again.

Plus, by this stage, most Chaos players have a healthy "be careful what you wish for" attitude towards getting a 'new' Codex. In the past we often forgot that a new Codex didn't mean improvement. Tyranid players learnt this as well.

Well, the manager of one of the GW stores here mentioned that HH would be released, and this was six weeks before the release. Not every rumor is garbage.

Well, the Heresy sprues leaked months before the release. Store manager probably got it from Dakka or Natfka.

The second type obviously, warp-fueled and with spiky wheels and skulls at the ends of the shaft. Rules-wise they will provide no benefits and the unit will be forced to roll a dangerous terrain test every turn (even if they do not move) due to balance issues.

No problem at all pal. The manager asked for more specific info on the chaos release, though was told no more than "January", so at least we won't need to wait long lol

Here's the thing... GW managers are absolutely clueless about what the upcoming releases are. GW tells them nothing - if they "know" anything, it's through the same way that we "know" things, which is through the hints dropped by the very few reliable rumor mongers such as Sad Panda and Lady Atia.

The only things we "know" are upcoming are the new AoS Dwarfs, and Wolves in Feb, with a hinted at plastic Rubrics kit sometime later/after the summer.

You can choose to believe whatever your local manager says is upcoming, but just as a FYI, the only news they get is from reading on-line forums like the rest of us. Mostly, you get managers who are either;
1. Wanting certain things to be true just like the rest of us.
2. Trying to hoodwink you into buying a bunch of stuff.

GW doesn't trust the monkeys with anything, and for very good reasons!

Oki doki, so I'm gonna say this one last time.

I've relayed what I've heard, purely for those considering buying either of those codexes in the coming weeks. If it puts them off for a week, and then a new dex comes out, great - it helped. If not, no one's lost out. Staying silent, however, doesn't benefit anyone.

Yes, I know GW staff are rarely an accurate or up to date source of rumours. That is exactly why the first sentence of my first post is phrased as it is.

Cool? Great.

To be fair, when Panda said we weren't getting a new codex this year he specifically said a complete overhaul like that rumor dump mentioned. It was never said that we wouldn't get a chaos codex period. Maybe things have changed and Panda has added that there is no chaos codex this year period. I haven't found that specific post if it does exist. I'm not saying i believe this OP, but given how they have not released a CSM beginners army I can see how people would make the leap that there is something for CSM happening in the near future.

Then again, after the recent CSM trolling we've gotten over the past year, I refuse to believe any rumors said by anyone until i see pictures. No offense to the people out there with reliable track records, but id rather be pleasantly surprised and proved wrong, instead of having hope crushed because i put faith in someone without concrete evidence. I think majority of CSM players think the same.

Welp, I trust my GW source who were offering sneak preview. Like, documents they got sent my HQ saying "Clear shelves of X product in preparation for" and stuff like that. And a guy I trust confirmed that Chaos is some shape would be apearing. Whether that's Chaos Marines, Chaos Daemons, Daemonkin, a Heresy box set like Betrayal at Calth, AoS Chaos Warrior kits. I have no idea. But I'd put money on Chaos this month. I heard mention above that Chaos Dwarves are rumoured, that could be it.

Aww and dark eldar hoverboards currently suck in-game :(.

As far as abaddon on the skull chariot that is about how the art design team is with anything space marine in nature as far as aesthetic goes (see space wolf santa sleigh).

Weren't you one of the monkeys at one point ;P? I know you worked for GW but I'm not sure if you made it to manager position. In the U.S. before 1 man stores were a thing everywhere we had 1 manager that was always there and another one or two guys to help all the traffic. Course GW's had more traffic back then. I think it fully depended on how many people were there or if it was a weekend, big selling holiday, store birthday or something like that.

Well book 6 is meant to have lots of Rites of War, which if you squint from far away are sort of Formations...

I just wanted to add a little to the discussion, there are some rare cases of GW managers actually knowing what is happening several months in advance. Usually it is to do with specific individuals having good relationships with certain people in higher/different positions where that pertinent information could slip, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility for a GW manager to know about an impending release weeks or months in advance. However, it is most definitely getting rarer and rarer by the year to the point where I don't think even the most veteran managers are told what happens in advance until the week of release.

Now, as for this specific rumor, we've already been told by both Lady Atia and Sad Panda that January is Dwarfs (Fyreslayers), February is Space Wolves and that there will be a plastic Rubric Marine (Thousand Sons) in the second half of the year. While I can believe the part about Tyranids being soon with that army hopefully getting updated by March, I'm doubtful about the Chaos Space Marines part. We would have heard something about it by now from at least one of the major rumor sources, and besides, we all know Chaos Space Marines are (likely) going to get a mammoth release when GW gets around to them. Lots of new kits, big codex changes, etc. That's not something that can just be tacked on in the same month as a new Age of Sigmar army.

Regardless of all that, thanks for sharing the rumor. I severely doubt it will come to fruition but thank you nonetheless!

Yah, not what he was talking about.

According to him Garro and the knights errant are formations you add to your army, despite the fact forge world has already described how you will add them to your army and they are nothing like formations.....

I realy think alot of the guff that GW employees come up with are just educated guesses. In my example after talking with him for abit I know this logic is bassicly that Forgeworld has started putting formations in the newest Imperial Armour books, so they will start putting them in the 30k books. Ignoring the fact stuff like unbound and other of the more extreme 7th ed list building silliness is excluded from 30k.
