Ahoy-hoy! As a long (ish) term lurker on both here and Warseer, and getting nothing but superb inspiration from a lot of the talented modellers and painted, I thought I'd share my new project. I've got a vanilla Dark Angel army of about 3'000 points that I've been painting over the course of the last year or so but I've always wanted an EC army and very nearly started a 40k version some 10 years ago. Anyway, the FW legion models are just so fantastic, I figured it was a perfect fit. I've committed the cardinal sin of starting off with the interesting stuff, but ho-hum.
My painting style is quite dark and my crappy iphone photography skills leave a lot to be desired, but without further ado, the first two completed Units:

Contemptor Number 1 (of 3):

Laser Destroyer:

Really nice work, the Contemptor especially. EC are one of the aesthetically coolest Legions going, they have such a great scheme and this style is a nice take on them, so consider me subbed!

Thanks I see these guys as very much post heresy, a bit darker, "grimmer" and a bit more beaten up.

Got a squad of phoenix terminators finished. Actually quite happy with the paint job, but the pictures don't show them off at all. have ordered a compact lightbox off the old 'bay so hopefully that will help. Well, here they are:

So whilst waiting for some airbrushing gear to arrive (#terrified), my folks got me a Tau Retribution Cadre for a belated birthday gift. Having never painted any Tau before, I was pretty keen to make a start. So without further ado, some very much WIP shots of my riptide. Happy-Isn with how its coming along, needing to add some depth to the reds which I'dd do with washes and probably pigments. Poor lighting work on the photos too I'm afraid.

I'm also really keen to paint the new FW supremacy super heavy suit so hoping this will give me a reason to (other than I just want to!)

C&C of course welcome

Love the action pose there! Really cool, much more dynamic than you usually get on Tau. Paint is looking good too.

That is a really great purple on the ECs!

Thanks for the comments

So, I've had a chance to get some more paint on. First up is my Kakophoni: These were the first experiment with my airbrush. After a pretty decent base coat, I mixed up the highlight and it all just went wrong, lots of droplets (I'm guessing paint too thin) and just settling in all the wrong places. I was pretty disheartened and just left them in my summerhouse for a week until I decided in a fit if excitement to try and salvage them. With some careful washes and highlights I'm actually totally chuffed with the results. I tried to light the pictures better but actually ended up making them darker! I'll probably re-shoot them.

Next up, pretty much finished my Riptide.:

And Also made a lot of progress on my Suit Commander

As always, C&C welcome!

Been All kinds of busy with life but found a bit of time here and there to get a bit more done. Firstly, some Palatine Blades with Jump Packs. I actually scored these on the 'bay assembled and undercoated for a pittance. Only downside they were mounted on some nice, but tiny!, resin bases. So I mounted those bases on some 32mm round bases and built the sides up with sand/glue/paint mix. As they're going to be led by Eidolon, who obviously stands proud on a stacked up base, I think they'll fit:

Then some tactical marines! Actually almost enjoyed painting these guys. My airbrush was giving me a headache so base coated by them by hand and felt they turned out ok. Oh, the Forgeworld transfers are a total bastard!

You all ready for some updates?! I've been insanely busy with loads of work related situations, running your own business will do that to you. I've been using painting as a way to unwind, turns out I've been pretty wound! You'll see a theme appearing here, lots of stuff painted but not a lot based. Going to have a massed basing session soon, probably about the same sort of time I work on an Armies on Parade display board for them. I'll put a few posts up in the order things got painted.

So, without further ado, the first of many pic heavy posts:

Palatine Blades with Jump Packs:

Who are the retinue for Eidolon:

Who is commanded by Fulgrim:

Who needs some Cataphractii for support:

I've also managed to complete a fell blade, another MkIV squad, a Drop Pod and a Knight. Crikey. I think I've got closing in on 4k points which is the most of any one army I've ever had painted ever! and considering I worked for GW too! I thought I'd share my things I've learned from this project:

I don't like my airbrush - I keep trying with it and it's great for base coating things purple. Thats it. I just cannot get on with it, perhaps I'm just a bit too old school? It's very much a love/hate relationship.
Forge world can keep taking my money - Their models are absolutely exquisite. One of the biggest things that's kept me motivated to keep on painting without being distracted by something else is there sheer quality of the kits.
GW are in a golden age of plastics - The BaC box is a total triumph, never ever enjoyed painted tactical marines, feel like I could paint the content of that box several time over.
Shade washes are inconsistent - sometimes matt, sometimes gloss.

Anyway, I've got a gak tonne more images to upload, but I'll probably cover that in a couple more posts.

Great stuff! I just started an Emperor's Children 30k army and I have one whole marine complete. Your pictures are real motivators to go paint some more.

I had some issues with the shades being glossy at first as well, however this problem can be solved with a vigorous shake of the bottle before application. Once I started giving them a good mixing by shaking the bottles I get a matte result every time. My guess is that the new "glossy" version that was just released have more of whatever is the glossy part of the suspension.

Thanks for the very kind replies guys! It's always a great motivator for someone who I don't think has ever actually "finished" a project in the history of ever. I'm totally happy with the Purple, but it really wasn't always that way, I nearly gave up on the whole lot after some sub-par airbrushing, but was rescued by good old shading and paint brushes.

Anyway, some more updatings!

Boom Wagon! aka Fellblade. I will be honest, this wasn't entirely my work, it was an eBay purchase. It came up with the doors and all I heard was that the Fellblade was a total nightmare to put together so I snapped it up. Re-purpled it, dirtied it up and thar she blows!

Dropping Pod. I wanted this to be pretty beaten up, after all it hurtles through space and slams marines into the ground!

Also, A knight. He's not yet finished, still needs transfers and weathering (and a base obvs) plus some of the pipes and pistons reworking. It too was an eBay purchase, it had no pictures! but I only paid £60 for it. Was a total punt, and when it arrived it has not 1, but 2 awful paint jobs so lots of scrubbing and wire wool later:

Few things I'm working on and this little lot will be done!

Nice score on the Knight. Any chance of getting some more + size comparison pictures of the Fellblade?

Here it is, and next to the contemptor I'm working on.

And speaking of the Contemptor, here's a little WIP. final highlights, details and weathering to be done.

I really need to invest in a decent light box for some better photo taking. Next up finishing the contemptor, then another contemptor, and some MkIv with heavy weapons.

Been pretty busy with work but managed to get a few more bits done.

All my contemptors are done. Number 3 (right hand side) was a proper eBay bargain, £12 posted. He actually had a really nice paint job, was a shame to paint over it. Classic example of a really nice model being let down by some terrible pictures, if this was a 40k EC army I'd have left the paint well alone, it really was nice. Speaking of poor pictures, I've tried to light these better, think it's worked a bit better:

I've also painted a Sicaran, I found this a bit of a nightmare to put together, both of the cannons were horrendously bent, looked like spaghetti. But its such an awesome looking beast!

Some Vulkite devastator geezers too!

So what's next? Well I really do not know. I'm thinking a Storm Eagle. Maybe a Warhound? what do you think?
