“Good afternoon, sports fans and welcome to one non-stop, action packed weekend of Bloodbowl action at the XXXXXX League Cup, sponsored by Bugman’s Bar! I’m certainly looking forward to this one, Bob!”
“That’s right, Jim- if last year’s Cup is anything to go by, the stretcher-goblins are in for one busy weekend!”
“You’re not wrong, Bob! But that’s what happens when the players are offered complimentary flagons of Bugman’s ale before the match! It certainly made for some interesting games!”
“Haha! I can hardly wait! Heeeere we go!”
humanWe are proud to announce the return of Blood Bowl to Warhammer World in the form of the XXXXXX League Cup, sponsored by Bugman’s Bar. Ahead of you lies a weekend of fantasy sports action, where you will pit your team against like minded Blood Bowl fans in an effort to be crowned the Bugmans Champion and lift the mighty XXXXXX League Cup.
As usual with our events, there will be a number of prizes on offer for various aspects of the hobby, from painting individual models and whole teams, to specific in-game achievements (such as most Touchdowns, Most Interceptions, etc), sportsmanship, and of course, the XXXXXX League Cup itself.
Whether you’re new to the game or you’re a veteran of a thousand matches, The XXXXXX League Cup is a great excuse to spend a few days playing Blood Bowl in the unique environment of Warhammer World, while enjoying the hospitality of famous brew-master Josef Bugman.
Date: 21st – 22nd May
Entry Price: £55
orc vigTimes: Saturday 8:30am-7:00pm, Sunday 9:5am-5:30pm
Early Registration open on Friday 20th May from 5:00pm- 8:00pm

Bloodbowl has continued to thrive in many places (although not as much in many parts of the US, unfortunately) and the number of companies making alternative teams is really long. Great to see GW giving it a look again, and hopefully this means more support to come perhaps even a new boxed set someday.
Funny that they have to reference that the rules they're using were last published a decade ago, though

Ah, Jim and Bob, I do hope they keep them around, along with the more colourful bits of that game. I guess it's probably too much to ask for a return of our favourite agony aunt while we're at it.

Awesome to see them running an event, however!

£55 for the ticket is a Joke, a one day event for X-Wing with great prize support and 5 games is generally £10.

It's probably over the odds, yes, but it's a two day event and involves food and drink both days. It really depends on what they offer for lunch as to whether it's a bit of a lot overpriced.

Meal in a chain pub, and a beer. About 10-15 quid.
So two full days, prize support in a premium venue, plus about 25 quid in food.
It's not too bad I don't think. Plus you just know they will be pulling out the stops, this is the next big push for them.
God I hope they don't mess up bloodbowl

Yes, that guy. They had to put a disclaimer up on his page because of his sometimes salty answers to the woes sent in.

I'm scared and confused; official tournament endorsement of a legacy game, low price entry-level box sets, upfront notice of upcoming release going into next year. Talking to customers. Treating us with respect? Wanting to have fun?!
What is going on in Nottingham?!
In all seriousness I'm very tempted by this, it's only just up the road for me and I love a bit of Bloodbowl. The only downside is this is probably right after I've had the annual, all weekend, Bloodbowl marathon with my friends, so I might be BB'd out!

Change in management, change in policy. For the better it seems.
I like this. I love the fact they're happily embracing Specialist Games again. I love the fact that BaC made Horus Heresy accessible. I love the fact that they are planning to do somewhat nicely priced intro sets (seriously, Terminators and a Dreadnought for £25 plus paints and glue and all?).
Maybe they've learned from the Kirby era and decided they need to go back to their roots again?
Plus £55 for a 2 day event. Break it down, food and drink tends to be about £15. So £30 for two days. X-wing entry for a single day event is £10. So 2 days probably is about £15 worth of entry. The venue itself is a premium venue dedicated to the particular hobby - it's not a LGS making do with what tables it has, it's an actual venue with purpose made tables and terrain for events and games.
I'm all for this. And want MOAR.

yeah, Bloodbowl is big again in London, I'm currently in two different leagues Stench~Bowl in East London Bruised~Ball in South London Half the players I play against are using 3rd party teams. So I did ask on facebook if GW would accept 3rd party teams being that there are no currently available GW Bloodbowl figures. 'NO it must be GW figures.' So while having a organised tournament like this is very good for veterans. Having a centralised ruleset could also be great as the number of rulebooks has begun to vary wildly. It's easy to find variations in copies of what appears to be the same Living rule book number. This announcement is not very welcoming to new players. New Players will need to search for a team, and pitch to practice on. If they are lucky they might pick up a 12 player old team for £50 But they regularly sell for £80+ And then you have to scrape together additional players from the eBay scalpers, most single miniatures from 5th edition teams being £12-£15 each now. Then they have to strip the paint off them... Honestly I'm not that sure the prices will be much better once they are sold by FW but at least they will be new minis. The Big Fear is that this reawakening could fracture the community even more if the new GW rule books go in a direction old players dont want. Hell they could try and AOS the gak out of the game ... PAnic...

Or you could buy a 2nd hand Warhammer regiment box for a tenner and convert a team in a couple of hours. They said GW figures, not specifically Blood Bowl GW figures. Half the teams i had back in the day were converted from WHFB boxes (Lizardmen, Skaven, Orcs & Ogres from memory)

This.
When I did play Blood Bowl I had converted my team up from plastic Saurus and Skinks. You can pretty much do a Dark Elf team using Dark Eldar kits.
There's nothing saying it has to be ONLY GW BLOOD BOWL FIGURES.
It, like all events they run, states that the miniatures must be GW in origin.
It's like people have forgotten that conversions are a thing.

I have no problem with them requiring GW models for their store league, of course, but this is why I don't game at a GW - there are so many awesome alternative figures from other manufacturers, for Bloodbowl in particular

With our Blood Bowl event just round the corner, we asked some of the hobbyists here at Games Worskhop HQ to create us some Blood Bowl teams using models that are currently on sale. Boy, they didn't dissapoint! Check out these amazing teams, and if they inspire you to create a team yourself, why not look at the details for the Bugman's XXXXXX League Cup event being held here at Warhammer World on 21st - 22nd May by clicking here: http://warhammerworld.games-workshop.com/the-bugmans-xxxxxx-league-cup/ TICKETS GO ON SALE ON MONDAY 7th MARCH! DON'T MISS OUT!!
All pretty good, the DE one is, currently, my favourite.

Okay, PDF rules are back? Kudos
Acknowledging that their entire miniature line got the boot/is no longer available... well...
But then showing conversions only in the Gallery pdf, have they binned all their BB miniatures?
WTH
No offense to the people who have done these conversions....
And I understand the intent of that gallery... But this is... painfull

I can see why they don't want to showcase the old miniatures. Quite a lot of them are horribly dated. Though, I do hope they at least acknowledge them. Also, I hope to see Frank N Stein returned.
The question becomes, when the new game arrives, which team. Hmmmmmmm

The rules .pdf, and the lack of showing old models actually kind of excites me. It almost feels like a prologue for them going hard at the game with new rules, models, etc when they relaunch.
