Yeah,
update: scroll down for 1st battle report.

So I had the idea of using frost grave rules with a star wars 'Skin'.
Achieved mostly by Preselecting/Limiting forces and powers and not changing 99% of the frost grave rules.

I have a bunch of starwars models

And came up with these identical war parties.

Wizards
Darth Vader
Obi Wan Kenobi

Apprentices
Luke Skywalker
Sith Chick (will paint her red...)

Soldiers.
archers
6 Storm troopers
6 Rebel troopers

Treasure hunters
2 Bounty hunters
2 Rebel spies.

Force users (Wizards) would have renamed Force powers? I was thinking of...
Push
Leap
Telekinesis
Awareness
Blinding light
Mind control
Bone dart. (Force choke)

Anything I over looked?

Lightsabers users... automatically have elemental hammer and shield cast on them at all times (+5 damage and -3 damage)
Which should make them Killy against soldiers and make them a bit deflecty against incoming shots. Plus a sword fights with other Sabre users will be cool.

Treasure can be droids or something...

Initial reception to the idea at my local club has been great.

So the project is a go!
I cleaned up the mold lines and weapon swapped Luke's blaster.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

You don't need to buff light sabres, just remove everyone elses melee attack.

For a canon feel light sabres and monsters should be the only models using melee attacks.

Replace the treasure hunters with rangers, and use then as your scout troops.

For marksmen use stormtrooper heavy weapon troopers, or appropriately a wookie with a bowcaster. I suggest both are 0-1.

As for the Disciplines/spells:

CRUMBLE - Yes. A disciplineinvolving a crushing grasp with ones fist symbolising the force tearing through matter. Only workable on inanimate objects.

DECAY - Limited. Clumsy random blasters can be jinxed. Weapons held by a force user cannot be touched.

FAST ACT - Yes. Most certainly, this could be speed, but most like precognition, your target waits and knows when to act.

FLEET FEET - Limited. but force user only.

PETRIFY - Yes. a variant of force choke.

SLOW - No.

TIME STORE - No.

TIME WALK - No.

CALL STORM - No.

DESTRUCTIVE SPHERE - No.

ELEMENTAL BALL - No.

ELEMENTAL BOLT - Limited. Sith only.

ELEMENTAL HAMMER - No.

ELEMENTAL SHIELD - Yes.

SCATTER SHOT - No.

WALL - No.

ANIMATE CONSTRUCT - Yes. All the construct spells are related to resource access for combat droids.

CONTROL CONSTRUCT - Maybe. You decide if force users can 'mind dontrol' droids.

EMBED ENCHANTMENT - No.

ENCHANT ARMOUR/WEAPON - Both no.

GRENADE - No.

STRENGTH - Limited. Self only.

TELEKINESIS - Yes. Certainly a core power.

BEAUTY - No.

FOOLS GOLD - Yes. This is an intelligence technique not a discipliine.

GLOW - No.

ILLUSIONARY SOLDIER - Yes. Again an intelligence technique. Equipment based (hologram) rather than a force discipline.

INVISIBILITY - No.

MONSTEROUS FORM - Yes. Though it may not necessarily be fear based.

TELEPORT/TRANSPOSE - Both no.

BONE DART - Limited. This is a blaster shot. There is no penalty for failing to 'cast'.

Most other Necro spells - No.

STRIKE DEAD - Yes. This is your force choke.

Eligible Sigilist spells:

DRAINING WORD/POWER WORD - Yes. Channelling the force to impair opponents or boost concentration.

PUSH - Yes. Core discipline.

Eligible Soothsayer spells. The closest to jedi powers.

AWARENESS - Yes.
COMBAT AWARENESS - Limited. Force user only.
FORGET SPELL - No.
MIND CONTROL - Limited. This will involve active concentration.
REVEAL INVISIBLE - technically Yes. Though 'invisibility' will mean cloaked models that the jedi can sense. Frankly I would not recommend this as cloaked models will be scenario based and this one spell will give one side or another a huge advantage.
REVEAL SECRET - No.
WILL POWER - No.
WIZARD EYE - Yrs. This is spy drone use, as a technolical discipline it has no failure penalty to cast. It is not just 'equipment' because utilising spy drones inside combat will require focus and training.

Summoner spells.

LEAP - Yes.

The rest no.

Thaumaturge spells. - None of them.

Witch spells.

ANIMAL COMPANION - Yes. Why the hell not.
CONTROL ANIMAL - No. Most gribblies worth fighting take a long time to train or are untamable.
The rest - No. Though there could be a case for fog.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Yeah,
I agree with your spell lists for the most part
Sith only / Jedi only
I'd prefer the frostgrave penalty to out of discipline casting.
And I think levelling up could possibly be done with select a new skill or decrease casting cost.

Bone dart = Blaster and petrify = choke would work.

I disagree with removing combat from soldiers/troopers,
The need for soldier on soldier combat exists And the combat bonus for out numbering is a big part of Frostgraves rules.
Also as once you start adding in other classes the need for none ranged units will be needed.
Wookies - Barbarians
Boba - Ig88 - Han captain/templar/knight? etc!
I think solider type and mini choice is basically whatever you feel is justified!
The balancing is done by frostgrave
For the most part I'd like to be playing frostgrave with minimal tweaks.

But it is very exciting seeing how good a fit it is!
Isn't it?

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I would set up the force training into four disciplines.

Sith Disciplines
Jedi Disciplines
Force Disciplines
Technical

Each faction would have its exclusive powers as core.
I recommend against adding penalties because of who you are using. You add leveling up the 'wizards' but check out who they are, giving basic chance for all 'spells' better highlights that these folks are already masters of their trade.

The final category are technical disciplines, i.e trained mundane item use. Which are skills of themselves.
Technical skills also have no penalty to use, but you cannot cut yourself to succeed and there is never a health penalty for failure. If Obi Wan misses with bone dart he misses with his blaster. That particular character might not even try, but Luke does.
Technical skills could be expanded to mimic any spell that can be justified by holographics, handy pocket droids etc. Some technical skills can be limited to one successful cast per battle, You could also pass a lot of these talents onto the scrolls mechanic. "Scroll of Exploding rune", that's a trip mine, "Scroll of Destructive Sphere", thats a thermal detonator.

I would avoid melee in all cases, leave it to the jedi. I also recommend you don't buff light sabres. Sure they are deadly but partial hits do happen. Luke scored one on Vader's arm during his first duel.
A wookie is not a defence against a light sabre, and any crushing they do is largely incidental. Chewbacca used his bowcaster.
A mundane fighter if facing a light sabre can only hope to win the combat (evade it) and move an inch away. Beating up jedi isn't an option and it is best if the option is just removed.

A rancor beast however......

Yeah,
So I got everything painted to a table top standard, base colours and washes.

Terrain was selected to look like a forest base.
GW Hills and Trees.
Maelstromes edge bunkers. (Guide to make these here)

Forces

Dark Side (played by me)
Master and Apprentice
Push Leap telekinesis awareness mindcontrol petrify willpower
Lightsabres (always have elemental hammer and shield permanently cast)

6 Stormtrooper (Archers)
2 Bounty Hunters (treasure hunters with bows)

Light Side (Rebel scum!)
Jedi and Padawan
Push Leap telekinesis awareness mindcontrol petrify willpower
Lightsabres (always have elemental hammer and shield permanently cast)

6 Reble trooper (Archers)
2 Data Hunters (treasure hunters with bows)

Setup
Standard FrostGrave size 3x3 board with lots of terrain
6 Data tokens to secure.

The game started with the Dark side making double moves to close the gap.
The Light side uses the Force to move the data dumps closer to their side of the table.

Darth Chick runs into combat with Luke.
Luke rolls a 20 and cuts her in half!

In the centre of the board Darth and a trooper clash with rebels securing a data dump.
the stormtrooper has the rebel at point blank range and misses.
A rebel data hunter sneaks up and excutes the trooper.
Darth kills two rebels but is left with 3 health.
The second rebel trooper gets away with the data!

Luke assaults Darth to finish him off
Both father and Son kill each other!

Old Ben and his Rebels are holding 4 data dumps;
They start leaving the board and manage to secure 3 data dumps.
Rebels almost secure their fourth; But the rebel trooper is gunned down by the empires bounty hunters; inches from the board edge!

The game ends a draw 3-3

A very enjoyable game, quite a few onlookers gave their approval and threw some ideas in the hat.
Success.

Looks great! And neat idea with the force powers!

The tut link does not work, however. Itake it that the buildings are made from gutter piping pieces? Unfortuately, on the continent I never found these. They are either round/oval or square here...

Star Grave is pretty cool. My group had talked about doing something similar, but it never got off the ground.

Great visual presentation of it all, BTW.

Great report and cool idea.

Where did you get the minis, they look a cut above the pre paints or the old West End ones.

The minis are from the Fantasy Flight Games Star Wars Imperial Assault. It is a Descent type of board game in the Star Wars Universe.

boba fett would be good as a captain character and maybe Han Solo as rebel captain... etc. (not sure off top of my head though if they have ranged options... might have to be mod a bit but I think captains would be good special character slots non jedi and sith. .
