I feel you, Weety. Painting on that sarcophagus scroll in particular is a pain in the backside. Much moreso than others of the same size. Chapter icons look great as well, and at actual size I doubt you'd be able to tell without looking really closely.

For the fantasy models, I'd go round. Not because it's my own preference for fantasy, or any particular love for AoS, but it's the new, current, marketed, pushed thing. All those Start Collecting boxes have round bases, after all - and if anyone wants to play Oldhammer/8th/9th Age they're already used to rebasing models that they eBay. AoS is where the new players are, and also the ones who are more likely (IMO) want to buy and immediately play without needing to work on the models.

Also, games like Frostgrave, etc are base-agnostic, and a lot of people I've seen blogging it seem to prefer rounds purely on the aesthetics.

The Fists you speak of sound like this upgrade pack.
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Crimson-Fists-Tactical-Squad-Upgrade-Pack

Paint them yellow or blue - the icons are the same so go with the one you prefer/feel will sell better. If it's a full 10-man squad, I cant think of why they'd lack their heavy, unless the seller decided against Fists but decided to keep the lascannon model, etc....

@Dsteingass hell no - nobody likes the 3rd edition dark eldar. I could snap a whole army up real cheap but I don't like them either - the newer ones are much better. I always usually do older stuff but not dark eldar they are shonky looking.

The new DE are SO Much nicer. I've still got a bunch of the 3e ones. I plan to (eventually) build them using spare parts from my modern DE replacing a lot of heads, arms and weapons. So using the bodies as a place to get use from my modern spare parts, basically.

I'm not adding sponsons to my Armored Division.

In reality, you just want the battlecannons shooting and not moving much, The Infantry and AP stuff is usually in a line near it to keep everyone away.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will go round. Also I might think of them as a warband rather than a regiment and give some bows, some clubs, some spears? I think that is a thing now maybe.

Thanks dsteingass I'm reassured about my leaman's adequacy.

I think I'm keeping the 90s imperial guard so I'm going to need more display space. The cabinet is one of those with many notches, so I just need the right size piece of wood.

Whilst preparing the harlequins I noticed these five orks who got forgotten last year and were very nearly ready. Painted them as evil suns as i haven't done them yet.

Harlequins are drying off from their first wash, a delicate grey mauve.

Classics, and such good work on so many subjects of painting,
I do like the excellence here.

@lindsay Nostalgia, perhaps. The Leman Russ was designed in 1995 (retailed for $30), it had the larger, more comical lascannon and the Original accessory sprue (Hunter-killer missile in a big box launcher, spikey searchlight, etc.), but it was Nottingham Plastic, so it was the light grey plastic that got somewhat brittle over time. . It was redesigned with a different Lascannon and a completely new Accessory Sprue around 2000ish (Dark Grey Plastic era beginning) , and when 6th Edition Apocalypse (I think) dropped, they redesigned the entire kit to fit on fewer sprues, saving the company money, charging you the more, and removing most of the cool curves and details and replacing them with Space Mariney-angles.

The new Chimera kit is far inferior to the old Chimera Kit on detail though, although easier to build (the Old Chimera Kit was 5 Sprues + the Accessory Sprue, the new Chimera Kit is only 2 sprues, 80% of the box you buy is air.

@weets Orks Look Great! Even without the Goblin Green bases. I was digging through a box of shame yesterday and I found two old RT-era Imperial Army officer minis and a Standard Bearer, where they wore Roman-esque helmets.

@shasolenzabi thanks. I'm specialising in diversity. In the post this week are death guard and space wolves - better buy some space wolf paint I don't fancy mixing it myself.

Thanks Dsteingass, more orks where they came from soon. I love those roman helmets.

A good holiday - lots of pre-painting-prep got done but only a little painting; some harlequins:

Here are some more harlequins. I added an extra colour - a sort of luminous lime colour for the power weapons. I'm not sure about it though I don't think it fits and may repaint them with blue lightning, what does anyone think?

It's a nice green, but I'm not sure it even fits the muted pastels you used on the rest.

Beautiful work. The muted colours really suit the models, that green for the power weapons is nice, I like it, but maybe take the green toward the blue side instead of the yellow, might help fit in better. Though as I say, I like it as is.
