Long time lurker of the site but I thought it was finally time to share some of my creations with the dakka community.
I've recently begun an adventure in terrain building and have developed quite a love for it.
My main aim at the moment is to create enough terrain for a 6x4 board but I wanted to do something a little different to the usual ruins / wasteland boards that seem to have cropped up lately thanks to Workshops terrain offering and the great MDF kits that are now produced. So I took some inspiration from the old 2nd edition rules books and have started to put together some jungle terrain.
My starting point has been aquarium plants and plastic rocks to build some good cover and LOS blocking terrain but as I am moving on I am looking to produce a small imperial base / oil processing plant in the middle of the board to really help kill LOS with the jungle built up around it.
Anyway onto the initial pieces I have put together and a sneak peak at what is next on the building table.
Looking lovely. The plants on their own would not look as good without the scaling elements you have used. You don't need to use a lot of them, but the odd ammo crate or whatever tricks the brain into seeing the aquarium plants as super exotic jungle folliage.
Your board will look lovely when it is finished with all those bright colours.
It was something I have considered and have invested in some barrels / crates that I can use to represent battlefield debris sunk into the mud in the bases.
Work continues on the imperial oil refinery, taking some crisp tubs that come with work lunches and some piping I have put together something resembling a silo. Currently working on constructing a second larger version of this to drop in the center of the board to help provide a focal point and provide some really decent LOS blocking terrain.
I picked it up cheap off amazon, the coverage isn't 100% however it dries pretty quick and I have just sprayed it with some grey primer and it has given a really great texture to it. Once everything is dry i'll get some pics posted up of it.
Just another small update on the terrain as the build continues.
Nearly now finished part of the oil refinery with an exposed piece of the pipeline to serve as a small piece of LOS blocking scenery. Quite happy with this one as all it was really was 2 bits of piping i found in my local hardware store for £1 each glued together and with a few plants really makes it looks part of the jungle. Just some flocking to do and then this piece will be finished.
