First edition 40k. The colour guide for space marines is awesome. May have to recreate all of these with some left over marines.
Looking forward to painting a Rainbow Warrior!

Powerful Phoenix Lord

The earlier stuff is always awesome. A lot more of the passion and geekiness comes through instead of the more cold/calculated/methodical business feel of the later series. As reading stuff and "cool factor" nothing touches the 80's/90's era.

Great find Tikay Fortooun.

My gaming group shared the cost of buying the hardcover when it first came out. Sadly the hardcover's tended to fall apart quickly as ours did.

Cheers,

Yep, that's where it started for me... Rogue Trader, followed by the "red book" and "yellow book" compendia. I had a Space Hulk box and the cream colored multi-part Marines before I switched to Squats. At about age 12 my friends and I wrote 40k rules for the Sorry board game... that book takes me back!

The entire book just oozes 80's GoFkYoself. I remember seeing this cover at the FLGS(I miss D&J) and as a snot-nosed punk just eating the entire thing up. The lore was flying rodent gak insane to a 10yo. Enhanced criminals now Space Marines, Space elves that are a dying race, Space Orks soccer hooligans (duh), chaos(the entire concept behind it) & glorious Squats, glorious glorious Squats. I miss my biker gang.

I kinda wish they'd bring back a little insanity with the warp stuff, maybe with the daemons of the ruinstorm being more fleshed out, insanity may yet return.

Ork-Hunting Inquisitorial Xenokiller

I still have mine, along with the Compilation (yellow book) and Battle Manual, from my earliest days of playing.

Bought the Compendium (red book) only this year.

I miss all the fancy Harlequin choices and how the Imperial Guard used to look *sigh*

I also have fond memories of the vehicle shooting rules from WD, printing out a targeting template on acetate that you could lay over a silhouette of a tank. So much more involved than "it hits or misses".

Great memories!

Kill Team could use some of the ideas from back then!

Definitely, something like Kill Team could be good as a smaller scale, higher skilled and more complex game.
