Hello,

Here is my first official post of progress on a little project I started the other day. I’ll bet some of you recognize this set from etsy. My idea is to give object source lighting a try with the camp fire. Stay tuned for more updates as I progress!

About a week’s worth of progress. Far from done though

This is amazing already! The way you've shaped the base with the duckboards and bits of this and that is very realistic.

It looks like you've sprayed light colored primer outward from the center focal point of the vignette (where the campfire is to be) to help determine where your light and shadow should fall? I've admired the examples of OSL I've seen here on Dakkadakka, but my tentative efforts to date are not nearly as ambitious as this.

The pieces are already giving off the impression of full color 'if only they turned around to the light'.

Have to say though, the ex-grunt in me chuckles at the thought of sitting down, relax and play the guitar with my steel pot and my M19 protective mask still on!

Very fun project to follow- rock on!

I wonder what a Kriegsman plays around the campfire. Something suitably grim I expect, like an acoustic version of There is a light and it never goes out by the Smiths.

Thanks for the comments fellas.

Meer_Cat, you’re spot on with my method of the lighting. I can’t take credit for it though, I’m working off the OSL video on Lyla Mev’s youtube channel (look her up sometime, she’s really good!)

As an Afghanistan vet myself, I like this little scene. I know about the whole mythos surrounding the Death Korp, but deep deep down they’re still human (even in the grim dark future)

Thanks for the hat tip Akmo- I'll check her out. I saw that method first on Klaus- Not Santa's thread here- wish he'd post again, some fantastic stuff.

And yup- if we're not moving forward, the k-pot comes off: too hot, too heavy.

Looking forward to seeing how you continue to develop the contrast between light and dark.

Rock on!

Here everything painted and ready to be lit by the fire. I’m a little nervous to take the next step since it involves airbrushing white and then the fire colors to give it “light”
