$125 will buy you a LOT of WGF stuff...

This is a very good point.

That's most likely what will happen to my TWD pledge funds too...

I hope the kneeling legs on the soldier sprue are extra and you aren't forced to use them.

I suspect that you'll 'have' to use them, but then again the other WGF sprues are mostly fused torso/legs so it's hard to tell from that.

Those modern trooper sprues look awesome.

If their a good price their bought.

How do the rest of the range compare with infinity and 40k siZe wise?

I... I feel like I've wandered back in time to a chatroom or something

wgf survivor, plague zombie, infinity usariadna grunt, PZ, zombie vixen, infinity fusilier, wgf survivor...

wgf survivor, wgf reverend custodier, wgf, infinity usarf grunt, survivor with boy sculpt in front and PZ behind, bones nun in front of terminator

survivor, PZ, AOBR terminator (note, they're all on 1.5mm bases), zombie vixen, old metal dark angel (slightly shorter than regular tac marine...very slightly), wgf survivor.

Sorry, didn't have a lot of time or a photo booth set up. Also could only dig up Infinity, 40k (and just 2 of those) and the various WGF kits. Oh and some plague zombies.

Given the price to mini ratio of the other kits in the range, you could easily just not build the kneeling guy on each sprue and still be paying less than a pound per mini. Though given that they say the final sprues will have more bodies and legs, they may have thought to include enough standing legs to avoid needing to use the kneeling ones if you don't want to.

That's great thanks Grim

They look about inline with the new infinity stuff height wise. So should match the rest of my stuff.

If you use 28mm models you only need 4 guys per team, unless you want to use squads (I think squads are mainly meant for 15mm) in which case you would need 16 models per team. Squads makes the most sense game-wise (in squad mode, you have 4 models per unit, and models are essentially "wounds", whereas with one figure representing each unit, that figure would have 4 "wounds").

Is that the difference between the "First Person Shooter" and "Third Person Shooter" modes?

Yeah those are the names he uses

Yup, for anyone scanning this thread...

the sprue pics are the OLDER sprue pics, and have since been redesigned to have even MORE bodies per sprue!

definitely excited!

Spoiler:

We were lucky enough to visit Warlord Games today at just the right time!

As you can see below, this is a sample plastic sprue that was created by Wargames Factory of Ultramodern multipose warriors. These were never released prior to the deal made with Warlord Games. The idea behind the sprue is that you can use the weapons attached to the arms or the spare items to create warriors from a number of different armies, so you can use the AK74 arm and a suitable head for Russian troops, the M4 arm for US forces or the SA80 arm for UK troops for a range of theatres of operation.

As this was one of the original versions of the sprue layout from Wargames Factory, there are more weapons than warrriors that can be constructed. The good news is that Warlord Games have re-designed the sprue to include more torsos and legs, so you can construct more figures per sprue but still have a range of weapon and other options.

These will be out at Salute, as will the new Project Z boxed wargame – it’s time to gather weapons and ammo and prepare for the zombie apocalypse!

Those would be perfect for making a spetznaz squad, interested!

I really like those new modern troopers. I'm a little concerned that the sprues changed since that means fewer options as the extra bodies had to replace something. I don't understand the whole " I have extra bits left over after using all the bodies. That is bad. " mentality. I'll wait and see how they turn out.

Extras is fine. Enough extras to have done twice as many guys? I'll feel like I wasted my money, especially if I got noticeably less guys than in the survivors packs.

That's the thing, those sprues are packed, but there is a rather huge imbalance of arms to bodies there, you'd get a lot of wasted plastic (and I do mean wasted, even with half a dozen extra bodies from somewhere you'd still have a great many spares, that's sprue space better suited to more minis).

I think you are both holding the wrong thing constant. It is far more likely that the $per body stays the same as it was before, and the number of sprues just goes down. I would be very surprised if Worlord set their prices based on what $ people are willing to pay per "box" without regard to the $ per mini.

Even if that's the case, I'd rather have more bodies per sprue, and less sprues, as that still gives you less wasted parts. It's not about more minis, it's about having less useless extra parts, and maybe getting cheaper minis into the bargain.

That is a valid opinion. I think I am too much of a hoarder/converter to understand the "wasted bits" mentality, especially when it will likely reduce the number of options for equipping the bodies, but to each their own.

I do have hope that they just replaced the bases with more bodies.

Do Warlord kits typically not come with bases, then? Or do they just include separate, GW-style bases that wouldn't need to be on the sprue? I do like the WFG bases like the ones on the survivor kit that already have a concrete texture on them, as they're so easy to paint, just grey, black wash, add road markings as needed.

Oh, I am very much a hoarder, I'm the kind of guy that won't throw out a Bolter despite having a dozen in the bits box already... It's just that that sprue has 20 left arms, plus about a dozen alternative weapons for those, as 7 right arms, for a set of 4 bodies. I think you could easily cut one lot of gun arms, or even just the loose guns that are going to be a pain to convert anyway, and fit on another body and pair of legs for no real loss in customisation ability.

In my experience bases being in the box varies with warlord. Bolt Action plastics for example all come with bases. The metals don't. If I remember correctly the pike and shotte stuff I've got didn't come with any bases. I've got no idea what the situation is with the Hail Ceaser or Black Powder ranges.

Since they've already got the textured bases WGF developed for these minis I can't imagine that they're going to get rid of them.

The current survivors and vixen boxes all come with bases. Sprues have 10 bodies, arms, heads, weapons etc, and 10 bases. Both survivor boxes get an additional sprue with a crapload of weapons, some are attached to arms and others are loose.

Within the past year all Bolt Action metals come with bases. That's why they developed the lipped plastic bases in 25mm round, 25x50mm pill (cav/bike), 40mm round (team), 60mm round (support) plastics.

I am wondering if the redesign makes them match their current style (large sprues chock full of options - Blitzkrieg, Grenadiers, Fallschirmjager, Japanese, for example). So enlarging the sprue, but putting more torso/legs on.

I wonder if thye 'sacrificed' the bases on the sprue as replacing them with separate ones would be simple enough and give plenty more space for bodies etc

It does seem like a waste of precious sprue real estate doesn't it?

Makes packing a bit easier and faster I suppose, but still...

That would be my guess too. Warlord invested in their own range of plastic bases so it seems redundant for new sprues to have bases on them (though their older WW2 infantry kits have bases on the sprues, the newer Fallschirmjager do not; the Grenadiers have 6 men and 1 base per sprue because they are meant to be paired up with the 5-base sprue)

The new Fallschirmjager plastics have a NEW sprue of bases included in the box. The base sprue not only has six bases (to match up to the 6 bodies per sprue) but an amount of WW2 bits - pouches, pointing hands, etc - that are useful for all of their ww2 range.
