As much as batch painting quashes the interest of progress updates, when done, it pays off.

Downside of batch painting: None or boring WIP updates, risk of Modern Times syndrome.

Upside: When done, things get done in batches too

Three more down, and a couple others right behind them. Close to half-way done.

First Juve:

Modern Times? A Chaplin Reference? I was always partial to The Gold Rush myself.

Looks good. Maybe a white point-- or something to indicate reflection-- on the sunglass lenses? Have you considered painting stubble on the heads, so the have a 5 o'clock shadow?

@Gits: Thank you, glad you like them so far.

@Red H: Sorry, but until I finish these, I'll abide by my choice, and stick with Modern Times as my reference for batch painting !

Yes to the reflection/light point on the glasses - to come along with the cleaning up and trimming of the lenses rims -, not so sure about the stubble (I mean, shouldn't mankind at least have discovered a decent, long lasting shaving system in 38K years?)

Still up - killing time to ferry one of the Cubs back home from a party in a while -, managed some extra late nite brush work: Sunday painting marathon indeed.

Pics of the next lot coming up soon, meanwhile, a family shot so far:

Very cool, and the bases are top notch.

I meant that The Gold Rush was my favorite Chaplin movie. Nothing wrong with the Modern Times reference. Sorry I can't make a reference to Argentine Cinema though. The only Argentine movie that I've seen is Sol de Otoño. It was a nice movie but hardly relevant.

Good progress. The red cuffs and lining give those coats a military look.

@inmygravenimage: Thanks!

@Red H: There are some good local movie pieces too, but, yes, none comes to mind relevant to the topic at hand

I do like the overturned red cuffs too, sadly only a couple of the models have them, they add a nice touch of colour to an otherwise drab top view.

Last night's progress:

Hoping that once mixed in among the rest, the late hours it was finished at won't show too much.

For the critical-eyed: Since I'm sort of getting paid for them, do you actually find these (tabletop standard) commission worthy?

Thanks for dropping by.

That gang looks so good together. Honestly Lt, I don't think I've ever seen them painted better (and I was around back in the day).

@Gits: Serious thanks, high praise coming from you.

@Shaso: Not sure about their readiness then, maybe now, with some their new mate?

I'd thought about saving this one for last - in case motivation declined or something - but once I started...

Great looking gang. I really like the basing, simple but very effective. And yes! Imo this is commision worthy.
Keep up the great work

Definitely nice work. My only suggestion is about the lighting. Perhaps try a few photos with a light below the camera, almost at the same level as the minis?

Absolutely commission worthy. And yes, I know what that is. I've done a few commissions in my day too. It is a good way to get to paint minis that are interesting, but that you do not want to own yourself.

The bugs do come at night:

Hoping somebody remembered to pay the power bill...

Backtracking a bit: First try did not work out, when I tried to tighten the wires to achieve the intended laser-straight look, the poles bent inwards. Added angled supports, the (2mm styrene) base bent in, banana style.

Fence Mk II (not pictured anywhere), went for 3mm MDF, Did not work out either, base bent again. The pull from the tightened wires was still too much.

That brings us to Mk III:

Carved a length-wise groove into the base, added a metal rod - HO scale train railing - and very generously covered in epoxi two-component adhesive resin.

Since I was at it, I also changed the previous columns design: Adding metal reinforcements into the poles, reworked the angled struts in metal too, and cut an insert base for the columns, which in turn got bolted to the MDF.

Worked better:

I also heated the E.L. wire - finding the right temperature took some experimenting, melted and fused a couple cut-offs before putting the heat gun to the fence - to tighten it in place, which helped making it "almost" straight without ripping the structure apart again.

And put some "unifying" primer unto it to check the looks:

In scale active fence:

Guessing this one will have to do.

Only missing building the second one, finishing the bases, and paint. Before Christmas. Piece of cake !

Thoughts and comments are always welcome.

Thanks for stopping by.

Lol, now that is some interesting fencing

You definitely made the right choice to make laser fencing with EL wire.

@nerdfest: Guess I would too, if I lived in a place where most of the fauna was trying to kill me half the time ! Thanks!

@OMN: Thank you. I think it worked out well for the fence, and it is an interesting material to try some other effects too. Various colours and brightnesses available, too, though the latest is dependant on diameter. Power unit is a bit on the large side of things, will need to be concealed inside/under a building or hollow terrain bit of it's own.

Cheers.

Oh that fence is looking good, and nice work with the nid looking forlorny at the juicy meats inside, like a kid with no allowance staring through the candy or bakery window.

@Graven: Thanks!

@Gits: Ditto!

@Red H: More? Maybe after this get some paint on. Speaking of which, thinking about a colour for the columns, not sure yet about what will work both with the lights off (when the wire is a dark pink/fucsia) and on (cool blue/white light). Plus the basing. Must ponder some more...

And yes, do get some and try it out. And it is made to fit and follow curves, will suit you well!

Course change again, painted some more, and the Gang is done (barring touch ups and matt coat):
