Subject: Re:Ork - Scratch built and Converted models (and some Chaos)
I just spent the last three or so days trawling through this thread (I am new to the site) and my girlfriend..I swear she has disowned me
Worth every minute though. After going through all of this... wanna know my favourite thing on the models, the parts that made me laugh the most (that's a good thing)... it was the tally marks on the guns or the little notes saying "big death" or "big shootas" or what ever they were. They killed me.
Overall, very impressive. I am no Ork fan (Space wolf die hard to the core ) but if anyone was to be seriously close to converting me it would be you with those "models" of destruction. Keep it up

To begin with, you are the reason I joined Dakka. I've spent a long while looking through Dakka but never joined, thanks for that, now I can subscribe! I (like many others!) have spent days trawling through this 62 page epic! You have converted me from a die-hard space marine lover to an orky WAAAGH-er and inspired me t o actually build and paint my AoBR orks that were sitting in the attic. When I heard you might have to stop, I nearly cried! But now I know you haven't stopped yet, I can sit and patiently wait for the finished battleship (and constantly picking my jaw from the floor!). GOT TO GO AND GET SOME PLASTIKARD!!!
Thanks Waz!

Bit late now but maybe a pirate theme may have been pretty decent for it as well.

Been cruising this thread for the last 2 days at work. Holy hell dude these builds are amazing.
I have a question, I may have missed it in previous 62 pages, forgive me if this is a repeat.
How do you achieve the grubby red paint job? I see that you prime black, but are you using base paints then a red? Are you simply not painting 100% over the black primer or do you use a heavy black wash?

Haven't checked into your thread for awhile, been waiting on the new dex to decide what im gona be building (dread list! yay for walkers!).
I have a few questions about your epicness and how I may achieve similar feats!
Ive been kitbashing and platicarding for a little while but what I really suck at is getting the nice square shapes you manage. I can handle adding plates and extras to an existing model and I can even scratch build some simple stuff, but its never as neat as you manage.
Can I check what tools your using against what I have?
I typically use;
dremel
x-acto knife
snips(or side cutters)
files
scissors
tube cutter (small thing - like a chopping block
Anything im missing or should consider?
Typically I do not massively plan and sketch out an idea, I basically pic the parts I want to go with, say a tau battlesuit for a killa kan and then start adding. But getting stuff looking super square and neat never works out :/
What do you typically use to cut your plasticard? and then do you use any tools to shape it afterward?
Big fan and thanks for the blog's, truly inspiring

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.
First let me say that as a diehard Ork player your work and this blog are manna from heaven! You've nailed the Ork aesthetic perfectly and your models just scream Waaagh! I've got a battlewagon kit waiting to be kit bashed and your battlewagon with the big turret and boomgun is my inspiration.
I know you've said repeatedly in your blog that you're no painter, but I beg to differ and believe you're an excellent painter. Your paint jobs and weathering really bring your work to life.

Worth looking at this inspiring thread, and it has made me both a fan and now soon to be aspiring orky creator myself.
That being said, I see a lot of before and after in this thread and mostly from a modeling point.
Could you do a short tutorial on how to PAINT a section the way you do?
I notice you have a certain technique on almost everything that you paint in order to ork-ify it.
Not sure when you shade or glaze or drybrush.. but I am surely curious.
I wholeheartedly agree with Awfeel and would be eternally in your debt if you could do a tutorial or video that demonstrates your techniques and color choices.
Thanks for sharing your work with us! It has truly inspired and motivated me to improve my modelling and my Ork army.
