BTW, I posted the rules and map for the Space Hulk event

Love the map (how did you make it?) and the rules sheet, thanks for posting them!

I made the map using a program called TileSystem and a lot of help from Photoshop to create the custom tiles and clean up the final image. Google "TileSystem Space Hulk" and you should find it. Its free but not sure if it is supported any more.

Our first game in the Team Tournament at Adepticon was against the top team in the field... "They Shall Know Fear". Two-time repeat champion of the team tourney and our match included the gentleman (Nick) that had just won the championships the day before. They were playing an inquisitional army with 4 land raiders and 2-4 inquisitors (not sure about the number... at least 2) with 4 henchmen death-squads.

Never having faced an inquisitional army, wyomingfox and I set out as normal with his Tau in the back (but not all the way back) to provide supporting fire and my wraith-wing up front running interference. Hammer and Anvil deployment, objectives... maybe kill points too.

I moved my wraiths forward to crunch-n-munch me a LR, failed my charge, then got wiped by ONE of the henchmen units.... dear God. The rest of the battle went pretty much the same (bad for us). However... given that we were completely outmatched, I thought we did pretty well for ourselves & made them work for it a bit. By the end we'd effectively killed off one of their armies and significantly damaged the other. Wyfox and I both made mistakes in the last turn that probably cost us points... but considering the competition... I thought we did all-right. The guys were FANTASTIC to play by-the-way. I'd play them again any day! We had an absolute blast and were goofing off and joking around the whole time.

Turn 1 I think... because I still have figures alive on the board... Staring into the face of 4 land raiders when you have nothing better than S7 is a bit daunting.

The cavalry arrives. I discovered that as hard-as-nails as the henchmen are in assault... they do go down pretty easy to gunfire. You can see my wraiths dying horribly in the top center there...

My moment of glory. 5 Warriors walk on after having their transport gunned down by a land raider, see another land raider through the boulders and land 3 glances on it *in spite* of the 4+ cover saves... wrecking it. Moral victory... Gitsplitta!

Very enjoyable game though we really did get our a$$es handed to us. Wyfox was really sick the first day so I'm sure we would have benefited if he'd been 100%. (He's the thinker, I'm just eye-candy.)

Game 2:

Vs a great group of guys out of Ohio. "The Bolter Brothers", Alan & Larry. They were playing a marine army that just had fire-power up the wazoo.

It was with these gentlemen that Yellowbeard and I shared our moment of zen. Sharing drinks and leaning back withour eyes closed, savoring the flavor of good libation and companionship. They were fantastic! Would love to play them again in future years! Sorry for the quality of the next two pics... they're rubbish!

I'm showing the next pic, even though it's blurry... because it helps to illustrate a funny story. Here are the guy's armies... a white armored chapter, and it's opposite.

The mission was "marked for death" in which you only get kill points for ONE of your opponent's armies (you get to pick which opponent). Yellowbeard had forgotten which army we were going after, and I blurted out (rather loudly)... "Kill the white guys!", at which point the gentleman on the left burst out laughing. Then the irony of what I said hit all of us and we had a good laugh. Of course the ultimate irony is that the humor of the situation was based on the sad history of race relations in this country... but in context, the combination of my comment, the color of the figures and the color of the gamers was just something we all found funny. And that I believe, is a good thing.

They did a really good job early. Their massed fire-power put the hurt on my wraith squad and killed one of Yellowbeard's wraith knights. I'm not ashamed to say I was a bit worried, especially when their loaded storm raven with talon escort hit the table. When my flyers came in 1/2 turn later, one of my night scythes made the shot heard 'round the world. Tessla destuctor shot broadside into the zooming storm raven. 6 to pen. SR failed it's jink. 6 on the damage roll. *boom!* SR blows up, killing the named character and elite squad inside and also blowing up the dreadnought it was carrying. The tessla shot then arcs into the escort fighter, rolls a 6 to pen, then a 6 damage... blowing it up as well. One shot killed about 800 points worth of their army.

While they fought bravely... they just couldn't recover from that. We found out later from another opponent (when I was trying to arc into my own plane) that tessla's can't arc into flyers (something about auto-hits not being allowed, through arcing is hardly an auto-hit, you still need to roll a 6). I'd been tesslaing my own flyers for the last 6 months and I know I put a glance on one of my own flyers during this game by arcing so I don't feel that we took unfair advantage of the rules. Just didn't know I was doing it wrong.

So, a round two victory and another great game. So far the tournament was going wonderfully!

We forgot to get a good one of ours too, Ice, I was partly referring to that (Alpharius nabbed it, though). Sorry if I struck a sore spot! Seriously, we all need to remember this for next time

I forgot to post this one... kind of a mini-batrep of our last game.

My tale starts the way all epic tales should.

"No sh*t, there we were... three against a thousand! (and those were the toughest three guys any of us had ever seen!)"

Game 5 we were below .500 so I was hoping for a nice, fun, low-key game to finish off the tournament. wyomingfox and I were once again teamed up and were greeted by a couple of French Canadian gentlemen sporting a combined Light/Dark Eldar army with THREE death stars! A jetseer council and two beast stars... not to mention The Baron, two wave serpents and a number of other nasty surprises. Given that... we did what any self-respecting generals would do... castled up and hid in the corner behind cover of course!

Our opponents surged forward in hopes of completely overwhelming us by force of numbers and superior assault capabilities. As you can see from the photo above... my wraith wing... the ONLY thing between their massive army and wyfox's vulnerable shooting troops sallied forth without fear. (literally... they're fearless)

In their last turn, the seer council and moved their way up into the beast squad & about 3 or 4 jetbikes were actually just ahead of the beasts. On our turn, I charged the seers. I knew from an earlier game that they were deadly shooting, but *could* be beaten in assault if a few dice went my way. Because he'd placed a few bikes out in front of the beast star, I was able to assault the bikes without engaging the beasts.

Luckily for us, the wraith star did it's job and between the mindshackle scarabs and the whip coils... I managed to take out about half the bikes with no losses of my own. The bikes didn't break, so we were locked in combat.

During the Eldar turn, the beasts nearest to the combat swung around so they could go after wyfox's Tau, while the second (huge) beast star charged into combat with the wraiths. Luckily, the second beast star was so large and strung out that only a few were able to join in the combat and with the aid of the MSS and whip coils, I wiped the bikes... causing the beasts to take (and fail) a morale test. The beasts fled... and we were able to keep pressure on them with other elements of our armies until they ran off the table.

My wraiths then turned 180 degrees and charged into the melee with the other beast star which was chewing on the Tau. wyfox's Tau were actually accounting for themselves quite well, but without help the end would be a foregone conclusion. I hit the beasts and slowly the odds began to swing in our favor. A pivotal moment occurred when the character my Necron Lord was in a challenge with switched out with "The Baron" (apparently he can do that). I believe The Baron failed his MSS test, hit himself once, then failed his 2+ save... killing himself with his super-weapon.

At this point, I (the gamer) left that battle because my flyers came in and went to work on the craftworld eldar in their right rear (sitting on objectives in wave serpents). The wraith star eventually got wiped out, but not until they'd help weaken the beast star to the point of inefficacy. My planes with troops & bikes came in on the right and chewed on the Eldar, eventually destroying, contesting or claiming their objectives (thanks to some very determined urging from wyfox, trying to prevent me from making the same mistake that cost us the secondary in game 1).

While I didn't emphasize it... wyfox's Tau were really involved at every step along the way. Assaults, critical shooting, you name it. A very good bit of teamwork in a very challenging situation. So... solid victory for us. Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
