Thank you!
A couple of days ago I registered for a tournament in april using my Eldar. This means I'll have to finish painting it until then, and rather than the ragtag group of half-painted models I have now, I would love for them to actually look good. That means getting a move on and focusing on the Eldar for the time being. So I am, starting today!
This is the army list I'm currently considering:
1997 points
Spiritseer 70
Farseer 100
10 Dire Avengers: Dire Avenger Exarch (power weapon and shimmershield) 160
• Wave Serpent: Holo-fields; twin-linked scatter laser; shuriken cannon 145
5 Wraithguard: D-scythes 210
• Wave Serpent: Holo-fields; twin-linked scatter laser; shuriken cannon 145
10 Guardian Defenders: Heavy Weapon Platform (starcannon) 110
10 Guardian Defenders: Heavy Weapon Platform (starcannon) 110
6 Fire Dragons 132
3 Vypers: 3× scatter laser; 3× shuriken cannon 210
5 Shining Spears: Shining Spear Exarch (Hit & Run) 150
5 Warp Spiders 95
3 War Walkers: 3× scatter laser; 3× starcannon 210
Falcon: Holo-fields; bright lance 150
The Warp Spiders, Vypers and Shining Spears aren't even assembled yet, the rest are partly painted, enough to count at the tournament if I get desperate and run out of time. The only finished models are the Wraithguard and two Wave Serpents, and the Dire Avengers are only primed.
I'll be starting with the assembly of the Vypers, Warp Spiders and Shining Spears, after which I'll be trying to paint them and the Dire Avengers as quickly as possible to a basic level (base + wash). After this I'll go in where I feel like and add a second basecoat, two stages of highlights, details, all that jazz.
For starters, I had to convert the Vypers. I want Scatter Lasers + Shuriken Cannon, but the model doesn't come with an underslung Shuriken Cannon. So I had to take the top-mounted one (where the Scatter Lasers will go) and do this:
Looks pretty good, if I may say so myself! Might go back and smooth the gap where I pinned the Cannon, or not Well, that's it for today!

I hate to be picky, but it's been 11 and a half weeks. Where are you? *echoes reverberate around*
All jesting aside. Hope your well and the tournament was good. I thought I'd post here too so I can keep up to date on your terrain which is very cool.

Oh hey TP! Sorry about that, I got sick during the tournament and was out of the game for a whole week! After that I haven't had time to do much, but I'm finally getting into the swing of things again.
I've decided to split up my blog into two: one for Eldar (and maybe Space Marines) and one for Necro/Inquisimunda and terrain (since the terrain tends to be Necromunda-oriented). This will be the latter, and as you can see I changed the name.
So recently I've become interested in creating an Inquisimunda warband. For those that don't know, Inquisimunda is a fan-made addon to Necromunda that introduces all manner of new warbands, from Inquisitors to Imperial Guard Kill Teams to Chaos Covens to Xenos. Here are the rules. Unfortunately the project seems to be dead, and it could've done with more clarifications and updates, not to mention balancing. In any case, for narrative campaigns and friendly games, it will probably work just fine. My Necromunda group seems interested as well.
As a first project I thought I'd try to convert one of my favorite minis, the Dark Eldar Sorceress, into a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitorial Acolyte. This is what the original mini looks like:
Ans this is what my version looks like:
The head is from a Dark Eldar Scourge, the staff is from a Dark Eldar Raider and the grotesquely large gun is a Sicarian stubcarbine. I greenstuffed some kind of robe and a belt, although I'm very inexperienced using green stuff.
After getting that far I suddenly felt the urge to put together my long neglected Mantic zombies (bought for use in Necromunda mainly) instead of painting the acolyte. So I did:
I wasn't about to paint 20 zombies to any sort of high standard, so I did a test model with some Quickshade I recently aquired for free:
Step 1: basecoat
Step 2: glue the base to a screw and put it in a power drill.
Step 3: Dip the model in the Quickshade and remove most of it by spinning it in a box.
Step 4: You now have a very ugly model...
Step 5: ...that you can dull coat.
Step 6: After some very basic highlighting, he's done. Very little effort and a passable result. I will definetly use this method for the rest of the undead dudes.

Sorry to hear you were unwell especially after all of your efforts.
Please don't take my last post seriously - I was writing anything in an attempt to subscribe to the thread
Your Eldar conversion is cool, completely transformed the figure! I can't wait to see your paint job.

So today I was going to base my zombies with Agrellan Earth, but when I opened my new pot, it was completely dried up... So I went back and exchanged it, sat down later and... The new pot was also dry. Not as bad as the first one, so I said screw it and used it anyway. It seemed to work, so all my zombies now have some dirt on their bases ready for painting and dipping
And I also based the Wargames Factory Stormtroppers I'm going to use as Necromunda Enforcers. These guys have a bean-shaped pad moulded under their feet, which I then stuck to the base, and that's why they all look like they're standing on a little hill.

Am I going to have to separate terrain out into a separate blog to avoid people being disappointed every time I work on a mini instead?
I'll tell you guys about my next terrain project though. We've had some problems with heavies easily dominating our Necromunda games lately, taking a high position and slaughtering everything on the ground, so my plan is to build some indoors corridor sections to facilitate moving around the board without constantly being threatened from above. Haven't started it yet though! Might try to finish a couple of the unfinished stuff in the OP first.

Thank you! Haven't thought about it that much yet. The flamer guy is some sort of rock hard mercenary type, the plasma gun guy is... Weird in some way, the sniper is blind and mute but has exceptional hearing, and the woman is an unsanctioned psycher.

It sure has been a while... almost two months! The reason for this is... summer. We've been doing some driving around the country during our vacations, and in between there hasn't been much time for hobbying, unfortunately. I didn't want to update this blog until I had something to show, so here's a little peek at what I've been doing whenever I could sneak in some building time these last few weeks. This is the start of what will hopefully become a small base complex. Besides these corridors I'm planning to do 2-3 bigger rooms and maybe a couple of smaller ones if I feel like it. An overview of what I've got so far. 6 corridor pieces and 4 connecting pieces (only 3 in this photo). The connectors will have another door directly opposite the bulkhead door, to allow four-way corridors. Exterior close-ups. The walls themselves are made of foam board, with the edges covered up with cable ties on top and cardboard on the sides. Most of the pieces I've glued on to the walls are spare furniture parts you can buy in bulk from IKEA. Obviously these will be further detailed with plasticard etc. Interior shot. The floor is a rubber anti-slip mat from IKEA that is great to work with. The wall bits are some plastic parts I found in a construction store. No idea what they're for but they are basically perfect for that 80s "randomly moulded walls" sci-fi look. The interiors will get maybe a few small gubbins but remain mostly empty to make room for models and scatter terrain. The bad news is that we're going away for two weeks starting tomorrow, so can't do much more until we get back. That's the last of our vacation however, and then I'll be able to get back to more regular hobbying and updates. There's SO much stuff I want to do, and we're starting a Necro/Inquisimunda campaign in september, so I'm extremely motivated

Well guys, I'm back from vacation... and she's ready for painting! I feel like I could work on this forever, adding greebles upon greebles, but I feel like I want to play with the painted thing now. We actually played a game of Inquisimunda using the corridors last week, and it works great! The height is good for putting in and removing minis, and the bulkheads give you a nice bit of cover every 8".
Overall I'm very happy with how this looks. Since my last post I've added tons of plasticard plates for wall detailing, along with random 40k bits for scale and rivets, rivets everywhere! I've also added another door to the connecting pieces (the one-bulkhead width ones) using Warsenal doors. So now they can be anything from two-way to four-way intersections.
Oh, and I took some 1.5mm aluminium wire and glued it on at the ends with PVA, and also used some cardboard pieces for brackets to hold it along its length. Looks good but the brackets are pretty crooked in places. We'll see what happens once it's painted.
In the future I'm thinking of adding a roof, but for now this will do. I'll probably start doing the 2-3 big rooms I'm planning while also trying to paint more of my Necromunda minis.

If there's more that you think that you could do then go for it.
It tends to make the painting stage a lot easier if you're just looking to do a quick drybrush, if you're going to take you're time on it then it's always nice to have some more detail to distract yourself with.
Pretty much a win win so don't stop if you have more ideas.
I've regretted not putting enough detail into projects umpteen times.
A good trick that I've learnt is to take a black and white photograph of the finished piece (easily done these days with the most basic of phones).
This will allow you to really see the amount of detail on the model rather than getting distracted by the colours of the different materials.
If the B+W photo looks a little sparse then you should add more!
Personally the floor panels are lacking and the rest could do with detailing up to the same level as the Necromunda bulkheads. You can do a lot of this with paint/graffiti/weathering etc but just something to bear in mind.
Looking great.

Thanks for the encouragement, but bulkhead-level detail isn't gonna happen. I have an hour at best for hobbying each night, so I need to stop at some point or it'll never get finished I'll do a ton of weathering and put posters and stuff on it so it'll look better.

Well, today I took them down to the basement and did some spraying! At first I had tried simply drybrushing one bulkhead in progressively lighter shades of grey over the black undercoat, but I thought it looked super boring. So I went and bought some spray paints and went to town! Here I've used a black undercoat, then dark reddish brown and tan on top, then a dusting of light grey. The inside got more red/black and the outside more tan (sand/dirt since is is going on my wasteland board). Pretty happy with this so I will start some washing, detail painting and weathering tomorrow.

Started experimenting with painting tonight. Took this small piece and spent about 5 minutes painting it, then 30 minutes trying to make it look as gakky as possible with washes and dirty browns. Unpainted on the right for comparison. Obviously not finished but it's a start.
