I do love plasma. Looking real good, gobert. The Necrons are looking sweet. Broodlord really turned out well. So far your Space Hulk set is killer. You seem to really have a knack for deep-space GW adventure.

I'm really loving the molted effect on the tyranids, plus the blood / slime effects are perfect for the space hulk vibes. Absolutely smashing!

Thanks youwashock, Plasma is definitely the coolest 40k weapon! The GW board game setting are just too cool to not paint I feel!

Thanks blockade, I too like the varied colours I got on the Tyranids and the blood and slime are really fun to do!

Thanks CB, I’ll keep on keeping on for sure.

Whilst my Terminators made the trip to Germany with me this week I only managed a basecoat on 4 of them and forgot to take a pic before I packed them away. I did however manage to finish some of my other projects before I left and took some rough pics. First the Necrons;

Nothing special on these guys, just clearing the backlog. They turned out pretty well to say that I didn’t strip them before painting them. Adds a bit more bulk to the army, and used a few bits too (I think the big boulder might actually be a bit of Ogryn shoulder

Next are the Plasma glow up Void Panthers;

I think the glow on these looks pretty decent, but the darker bits on the coils could’ve been a bit neater. That’s what happens when you’re in a rush though I suppose. The Plasma Cannon chap is another completed mini, edging me closer to a full Company

Lastly we have the Cadian’s turned Blooded;

Sadly, these 2 aren’t quite finished. I forgot the mask on the left hand chap, and the others foot snapped as I tried to free him from his temporary base. So a bit more painting and gluing to get these guys done for the weekend. I also need to find my hobby knife to get that foot off the base

These 3 are all done and the Chieftain lady will hopefully be a boost having another plasma weapon that should will be guaranteed a hit each turn, and a crit once I give her a blooded token

Here she is in close up, the OSL on her leg looks cool, but I think I need to neaten up the coils if I can

The ex-Cadian Plasma Gunner has a good OSL effect too, especially on his head

The converted Enforcer joined the Plasma gang too , ready to give one of them an overwatch shot each turning point!

That’s it for now. Later in the week I might share a pic of the last pair of Blooded Cadians before the tournament if I get them finished in time.

Thanks for looking

That's a nice eclectic mix of minis you've managed to paint. The Necrons are super dark, I feel like they could use a tiny touch of lighter coloring to make them pop. Maybe a lighter green face mask? I dunno.

I like the plasma glow on your Void Panthers and Blooded. It really enhances the models.

I hope you had fun at your tournament!

The plasma glow is excellent and the OSL is terrific!

I really want to try to copy the effect you have achieved; I'm getting better at getting the glow down right (Step 1) but not sure I'm ready to risk damaging an otherwise adequate paint job pushing the edge- although it has to be done sooner or later!

Thanks Warboss! Variety is the spice of life as they say . The Necrons are a bit darker than I intended as I forgot to thin the Contrast mix they’re close enough in colour to the rest of the army though so I’m calling them done!

Thanks Not Online!!! Though I can’t believe that I’ve been more productive than you, surely you’ve finished an army in the past few weeks!? The Necron colours were borrowed from John Prins’ Necron Christmas Project back in 2019. When I saw it I decided to do something similar for my Indomitus set.

Thanks youwashock. I think the plasma looks better in photo than real life, but I’ll take that! I’m really enjoying the Blooded and they’ve turned in to quite a sizeable side quest with a few more additions falling from Cadia in recent days too! I think I’m just shy of 2000 points for the Necrons and have a few characters in my draw of potential.

Thanks Meer cat, it is daunting on an otherwise finished mini, and I hadn't really thought much about what to do if it went wrong. For me I think the glow is a bit milky at the moment, I’ve been tempted to add another layer of fluorescent green to take the edge off it. If I do it’ll be by brush as Reddit agrees with me that the VMC Flouro Green that I have is terrible through an airbrush!
Tommygun1918 wrote:I'm really liking those triangle bases there Gobert. They have kind of an organic look to them.

Thanks Tommy, they were originally for my Blackstone Fortress minis, but I’ve decided that they work well on all of my Chaos stuff (though Death Guard may get a different treatment)
Ezki wrote:Great work on the plasma glow! It gives character to the models and pops nicely against the armor.

Thanks Ezki, they really do stand out now, helps the opposition find them easily on the table though!

So clearly I failed to get proper pics of the new blooded team members before the tournament, but here’s the newbies now

That one’s the best pic of the plasma glow I feel

This one ain’t bad either

Overall I think the Cadians blend in really quite well with the Blooded heads and arms added

Whilst putting them away I also decided to get a few pics of the Roster that I took with me

The team went well in a couple of games, but tanked in a couple too. MVP was probably the Brimstone Grenadier and the Melta dude. Though one of the Lasgun Troopers somehow survived about 4 shooting attacks to help me win the last game.

Game 1 was against @nyfelim’s Grey Knights. Here’s the start of TP1

I think the layout really helped me command the board, getting control of the central rooms was easier for my side and a few lucky Melta/Plasma/Diabolik shots helped me thin his numbers quickly. It ended up being a fairly clear win for me, but that was about to change!

Game 2 was against my regular opponent @coleface40k. He did some kunnin’ tricks with his Nob who lobbed some dynamite in to a bunch of my guys with the first activation, killing 3 including the Ogre. Here’s a pic of later in the game

Basically I never recovered from that first activation as it also stopped me from being able to flood forward and nab objectives. We also later found out that the move he did had been nerfed by an FAQ recently! Oh well, I’m not bitter as he gave me a lift home!

Game 3 though was even worse for the Blooded. Up against the high accuracy and high wound count of tournament organiser @playswithsoldiers’ Strike Force Justian (painted by @heresyismytherapy. I made a couple of stupid moves that cost me my Plasma Gunner in Activation 1 and my Ogre early on too (he was quite buttery against the Marine Captains Plasma Pistol). It seems that breaking cover was a challenge for my guys and I think I should’ve dropped the Ogryn for a couple of Troopers to act as cannon fodder cover. Another barricades might’ve helped with that too. Facing a tabling though there were a couple of standout performances. First the Thug showed how tough he was

Taking a heavy Bolter from short range and surviving, though only long enough to find another Marine to be killed by!

The Corpseman also had fun after getting an extra activation he shot at the Captain to soften him up, charged him and stabbed him in the eye with a needle!

It must’ve been quite a stretch to reach him! He then got mown down by another Marine leaving me with a sole operative

He didn’t survive long against 5 marines! These guys were super tough and I couldn’t get the numbers to work for me on such and open board I should’ve concentrated on one side much more than I did.

Game 4 then was effectively the wooden spoon fight against @the_minotaurs_lair’s Arbites Exaction Squad. I think we’d both struggled to fight the other teams who were mostly Elites. We played the In To The Dark table as my opponent hadn’t played that one before. Since I had I picked the side with fewer doors, but knowing what to expect I rushed the 3 CPs nearest me. I also managed to put the Brimstone Grenadier to good use taking out 2 and 7/8ths Arbites. I could then gang up on his guys in the central rooms as he lost his flank and a chunk of his force went the other way to deal with my Enforcer who was the main perp they were after.

As you can see the doggo held him down while the Arbites behind eventually managed to take him out. Lucky for me, he was too big for the doggo to drag off! This one was pretty evenly balanced and nicely thematic with the naughty Chaos types fighting the Arbites.

Whilst it was a shame the event didn’t get a massive turnout, it’s safe to say that we all had fun. @coleface40k and I will look to join the next one that @playswithsoldiers organises if we can.

Speaking of playing kill team, I seem to have become the organiser of a kill team club at work. The plan is to play alternate Thursdays, though we are away with work a fair bit coming up, so nothing for a month, then 2 Thursdays in a row. I just need to complete the H&S forms now!

Long post, thanks for taking the time to go through it!

Yeah it was great! And there really was a wooden spoon (and a set of dice!)

Quick post for tonight’s hobby time. First up I finished a little project I’ve set my printer on earlier in the week; a new paint rack for my paint drawer:

Designed myself and unlike most things I design myself is stayed away form the over complicated and stuck with simple hex shapes. They fit together nicely and it means I can now hold all of my paints in one drawer. That then mean that my drawer of primed minis doesn’t get bashed by paint pots when I open it!

Quite a few nice little projects in the Nearly Realised Pile of Potential. You'll notice there aren’t any Void Panthers in there, as they’re all stood in formation waiting their turn at the other side of my hobby room/office.
I have a few more Tactical Marines that I want to finish next, and then I’m thinking Gellerpox Infected with a broadsword wargaming inspired scheme.

My current painting project though is the Terminators from Space Hulk. As I’m a lunatic I’m attacking them in one big batch!

Decent progress so far with a Khorne Red Base and a Mephiston Red initial highlight/base. I’ve decided to go Grimdark on them to match the dead terminators from the Genestealer side of the box so everything is quite rough. I’ve found it pretty enjoyable so far just slapping paint on in roughly the right location and aiming for a textured finish. Hope you all like them!

Thanks for looking!

For some reason I got the urge to paint up my 3d printed fortress built. I finally finished the central tower a few weeks back. It sat a while waiting to be primed, but I got it done in the week. I mixed up a decent match with the Wolfkin Primer from colour forge to cover the bits I missed. I even stippled some highlights on before I decided to add a wash. This was mixed from some speed paints, old wash pot water and some cheap black acrylic. I slapped that on last night but was a bit messy to apply (and needed a lot!). So tonight I mixed up some more close match to the wolfkin and over brushed that on.

It’s taken the shading from a harsh messiness to be harsh where I wanted it so, and subtle elsewhere like on the outside. I’m hoping some lighter highlights will build better contrast to show off the print.

I also decided that the hobby space needed a proper sort out this weekend. My wife was getting rid of some small plastic drawers, so I rescued them and rearranged some of my storage. I freed up a whole big drawer and some space near my printer and filled up 2 of the new drawers with all of my bits;

Drawer 1 is chapter specific space marine bits, mostly blood and dark angels, plus a bunch of necron and Tyranid bits.

Drawer and is the my Void Panther bits. I also have a drawer of bases and a drawer of swing materials.

I also found out that the Bristol and Bath Warhammer stores both recycle sprues according to the link on te gw site. So I bagged up all of the sprues I’ve collected since they announced the scheme

That’s a big bag and the sprues are two layers in there! Most are from the big eBay haul I got a while back. I also have some Gale Force 9 sprues but I don’t think gels will take them.

Finally, the big clear out was really to make way for this big box

But don’t get too excited, neither Kill Team particularly excites me so I’ll probably throw them up on eBay, especially now they’ve dropped the fees! I’m undecided on the terrain, though I’m edging towards keeping it. The equipment sprue is awesome, I’m already loving most of that and am looking forward to paining it all! The rules and crit ops cards come in a good looking and useful folder. I think I’m also pretty much committed to buying the next box mainly for the ratlings!

That’s it for now, hopefully I’ll be back soon with some more interesting posts

Thanks for looking

Yeah, I’m slightly regretting taking that approach as I’ve made negligible progress on them since my last post.

Part of that malaise has been deciding to do the Kill Team equipment sprue. Obviously a third project was just what I needed to do to make progress! Still, they’ve been pretty fun with simple paint schemes. Here’s where they got to last night

I’m loving the sponged on space wolves grey, gives a texture similar to the old bunkers in white dwarf! Will have to do similar on my fortress when I get back to that. The smoke grenades are just behind them and have just been a simple dry brush, with the ammo stash on the foreground being a speed paint and strong tone wash. Same goes for the grenades in the background too.

The barbed wire is probably my favourite item on the equipment sprue. I even decided to add some more gore to it by throwing in a couple of Cadian heads to one of them. That one will be for my Blooded Kill Team if I ever take barbed wire as an equipment pick for them. In fact my plan on half of the set is to give it some Chaos graffiti and blood splatter. You can’t see it on the pic, but one of the ladders has a big spike at the top with a skull on it! The comms arrays were just a quick bit of contrast and a couple of different golds, pretty uninspired by these if I’m honest.

Hopefully I’ll finish these up tonight and get back to either the fortress or terminators. I’m thinking I might split the terminators in to smaller groups as that many is a bit daunting

In other news I now seem to be the main organiser of a Kill Team Thursdays group at work. This week was our second expanded session, with 1 total newbie and a couple of new to Kill Teamers. We’re all still learning the latest rules. We didn’t do the full rule set just yet, but will do next time out. This week though I played @coleface40k who decided to try his Kreig. He hadn’t planned on playing Kill Zone Gallowdark so hadn't optimised his list for the game. a couple of bad decision and some incredible dice rolls for me in TP1&2 meant the board looked like this at the end of TP3

One sole Kreigsman in a room with 2 Blooded with more in adjacent compartments. We called it at that point as I was already leading comfortably on VPs and figured the Kriegsman just picked up a few spiky bits to add to his armour and joined the traitor guard! Unfortunately I can’t make the next few games but I’m looking forward to the expanded opponents, with Hierotek Circle, Legionaries, Hearthkyn Salvagers joining my Blooded and @coleface40k’s Kreig/Scouts/AoD/Kommandos. Despite having 4 other teams and soon a 5th when the Nurgle Space Marine Heroes are released I’m dead excited at the Ratling Kill Team, they look awesome. I might even keep the Orks too!

Thanks for looking!

So I didn’t quite manage to finish the Universal Equipement but I’m very close now. I did have loads of fun using the Vallejo Game Efects Dry Rust and Rust. The former is like a very matte brown that’s a bit like a contrast paint but the latter is like a layer paint. I ended up thinning them down to be a bit more like a wash to get some streaks of rust from all of the rivets. I also played with something I’d seen on instagram, wetting a path for the wash to follow.

It was great fun and I think it looks really good. Using the orange more like a wash helped get plenty of colour variation.

The barbed wire got the same treatment plus some verdisgris on the skulls and eagles

In the pic the orange looks a bit strong, but thankfully it’s duller down lots now that it has dried out. Just a few more details, like buttons on the comms pieces, scorch marks on bullet holes/scuffs and some blood splatter on half of the equipments. I’ve also printed a couple of little templates to throw some blooded icons on the terrain banksy style!

Thanks for looking

Thanks Guardling, also you’re in luck it’s already available separately; here
Cap'n Facebeard wrote:You are making this game look very attractive...

Thanks Cap’n, the kits are pretty cool with lots of character and the game is good fun to boot!

So yesterday I managed to finish up the Universal Equipment for Kill Team 24. Ironically (perhaps in the Alannis Morrissette kinda way) I’m unlikely to take any of them when I play as the Blooded given their faction equipment choices offer some great buffs now. The blooded icon graffiti came out ok, the template was a bit stiff so didn’t conform to the barricades very well and my decision to use Blood For The Blood God made it a bit hard to see, but I think you can get the idea. Here’s the heavy barricades;

These things look super dirty, though I question how a spec ops team can covertly deploy them. The lifting eyes suggest they’d need a vehicle to bring them in! Maybe a Valkyrie brought them over or they were teleported in to the space hulk? Or left there earlier in a battle? Who knows!?

The portable barricades though have handy lifting handles. The details on these are super fun too, they have little viewing hatches with even littler hatches within them, all of which have hinges and latches!

I never painted the printed versions of the classic KT barricades, so it’s cool to have a painted pair! I love the rack and pinion slide out mechanism on these too

The ladders ended up a bit meh, but the skull on the spike is a winner imho!

These grenade tokens I guess are just to help you remember what you picked, but they’re fun oversized grenades

The smoke grenade tokens are pretty cool. GW did a red one that looked kinda cool, but I stuck with grey mainly for laziness reasons!

The ammo caches are kinda cool, and look decent for a prime and wash with a couple of bits of contrast paint

The barbed wire though is absolutely awesome though! It took the rust and BFTBG really well

The body parts in this one were super fun to paint and I added some uhu gore too. The arm was original but the heads are bits I cut from Cadians that turned Blooded.

The comms devices have quite a few details, like the British style plugs that have clearly been decided to be the superior configuration and is now Omnissiah approved

Not sure what project I’ll return to next, I might even keep the Kill Team bits going and do the Volkus Terrain.

Thanks for looking

Thanks Cap’n, once upon a time I worked on a project involving radios. It was not fun and perhaps it’s tainted my appreciation of the model

Had a bit of time this weekend between family visiting us, drinks at friends and looking after kids. I spent a bit of time priming the Volkus terrain as our little club at work could do with another board as my Harbinger of Damnation Gallowdark proxy board takes too long to set up. No pics of they yet as it’s nothing special just yet, just being a Black, grey, white zenithal prime and the floors in Silver. I then got stuck in to the White Dwarf Strongpoint Fortress, which I reckon will be a fun board for a multiplayer battle royale/king of the hill game of kill team!

I started off with sponging a thinned Shadow Grey/Russ Grey mix all over with a bit of a focus ok the top half. then added a good bit of Space Wolf Grey for the top parts and edges.

Here’s some closer pics of the details

Here’s the damaged central tower made from an earlier iteration that I cut up to suggest it had been blown up a bit

The main tower has a Trojan bunny to distract the occupants!

I then spent a good while doing the rivets, eagles and pipework on all of the pieces

Here’s some close ups, but I have a question, how should I do the eagle?

Keep it dark steel, probably with a good bit of rust like the kill team equipment. Or do I paint it gold or copper with verdigris?

Here’s one of the bridges

It’s bit hard to see but the pipe work in the arches is metallic too (though I had missed quite a few of them on the first pass and had to go back separately). My question on this is what to do with the skulls? Keep them concrete, paint them as bone, or do them in gold, or copper? Rusty steel might look wool too.

I’m also wondering whether I should give a wash I’ve the bracing to darken that down and provide a bit more variety on the outside.

Just remembered that I also finished the Kill Team Rulers and Mines. I’ll get some pics this week of those too.

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think on the Eagles, Skulls and Bracing
