Today my brother found out this amazing thing. Our WHFB 6 edition starter and some orks who survive all this years in a box. It's 2002 year purchase. It's fill a bit weird cause few my colleagues are younger then this orks.
What's your first box/kit and do you have it this days?

I don't actually remember what my first Games Workshop purchase was. I got into Warhammer Fantasy 4th Edition a bit before I got into Warhammer 40K 2nd edition so something Fantasy related I guess.

Before I knew what Games Workshop or Warhammer was I did buy Battle Masters though. A 1992 game by Milton Bradley made in collaboration with Games Workshop. And no, I don't still have it. Good times were had with it though.

GW? RTB01 beekie marines.

Minis in general? Some old grenadier D&D minis

Still have em. And I try to get my classic tactical squad down at least once in every FLGS and edition of 40k.

Like most people I got lured in by the Space Marines!

I actually bought a tactical squad off my friend who had painted it up as Salamanders. I'm not sure he realised they were are boring goodie-two-shoes chapter at the time!

They did have some fun special rules released through a White Dwarf that I liked to use though

1st kit/box or 1st GW kit/box?

My 1st box wargaming wise would be my original Battletech box from '85(?).
●The box is long gone.
●I still have all the books & maps from it.
●The dice have long since become mixed with countless other dice. I'm sure I have them though.
●And I have all but 3 of the card standee mechs - somewhere.

My first GW box/kit (not counting some blister packs) was WHFB Prince Uthors Dragon Company dwarves.
●I still have the box
●of course I still have the minis
●the foam tray has been lost to time though

HeroQuest, strictly speaking.

Got it for my ninth birthday. And it’s all been downhill since then in terms of the plastic crack.

My first “proper” GW big box was likely Space Marine 2nd Ed. Though it may have been Tyranid Attack? Again it was a birthday present, and the other was a Christmas present. I remember having to choose between the two the birthday, but can’t recall which I went with.

First wargaming kit? Probably some Blood Berets for Warzone. Sold or bartered those long ago, when any chance or desire to play Warzone again disappeared.

First miniatures to paint - Polish knockoffs of western miniatures that I used for my RPGs in primary school in mid 90's when western nerd culture started to appear in Poland after the fall of communism. There was no such thing as IP protection then. I still have a couple of those minis in a box somewhere, as they are pretty much unsellable.

It was these two boxes.

Sadly, they are long gone - probably thrown out by my parents when I left a bunch of stuff behind after moving out.

My first real kit was a couple of the Mk2 Khador plastic warjack kits and Vlad1 for Warmachine. Jumped in wanting to magnetize them and definitely still have them today though they've now been replaced with the Mk4 versions.

My first GW purchase was the Death Masque box which got me started with Deathwatch. Originally I was going to do Harlequins as well, but I was in no place to hand paint checkered pants and eventually sold them. The marines from that box are absolutely still in my collection though and saw play last night.

Same, got it for Christmas when I was 7. Had all the expansions, including the one that didn't come with any new models, but loads of stickers and empty board maps to make your own quests. All in the loft.

Ahh, the Dungeon Design Kit! I had that.

Also, when Mum and Dad moved back to Scotland around…2006ish? When packing everything, they found a pristine copy stashed in a cupboard. Seemingly an intended then forgotten about Christmas present.

Pretty sure it went on eBay and paid for some beers. More shame me.

Also this as my first box. And amazingly I've still got them. Repainted them back in 2019 when I got back into the hobby.

Hard to say. These first acquisitions are all jumbled up in my memory.

-Battle Masters.
-A blister containing a regular marine and one with a melta gun
-Second Edition 40k Box set
-Battletech 3rd Edition

As an aside do think it suggests that someone entered the hobby post-2000 when they ask about your first "kit". Wargaming kits existed, but I don't think we usually called them that in the 20th century.

Maybe it was just my perception but except for tanks, I thought of them as boxes of figures or minis (usually metal). "Kits" usually referred to scale models.

I’m thinking it was Eldar, but I forget if it was Eldar guardian box, dire avengers or a Eldar battle force.

I had buy some built Eldar before hand.

I don't have a pic handy, but my first box set was the Mines of Moria starter set for the Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game (now the Middle-Earth SBG). It came with the plastic Fellowship models still sold today, as well as 24 Moria Goblins, a plastic Cave Troll, and some terrain pieces to recreate the Balin's Tomb area seen in The Fellowship of the Ring. Those were some of the first miniatures I ever painted, and it shows given how terrible they ended up looking when I was done with them!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2024: 40 | Total models painted in 2025: 25 | Current main painting project: Tomb Kings

that was a solid fun box, i ended up with so many of those goblins. Was sad that it didn’t get played much here, but everyone wanted the fellowship.

I'm not a 100% sure, but IIRC it was a Vincent Blackshadow bike metal blister which came with the multimelta sidecar. RTB-01 plastics came soon after, and its all gone downhill from there

The first boxed game I got was Epic Space Marine 1st edition, without a doubt. I had already skimmed WHFB and RT books at the local book store, but no way could I ever get into a game like that requiring all those models.. (Oh how things have changed)

I'm not 100% on the timeline but I'm pretty sure I got a snakebite boarboy first, but I knew that there was a bigger box and I got that for christmas, which was the 2e 40K starter set.

I think I must have given the boarboy to a friend who started Orks, but I still have most of the marines, a lot of the gretchin and some of the goffs from that box. The thing I miss the most is Codex Imperialis, which I read and re-read obsessively as a kid.

I reckon that would have been in 1995? I was definitely still in primary school so probably 11?

Recently repainted some of the old marines, and I'm very happy with them.

First GW models: blister of Eldar, at least one of which I still own.

First minis, ever: Grenadier Denizens of the Swamp, all of which are lost to time.

First big GW box: 1st edition Space Hulk, still have it.

First GW box set: probably RTB01. Still have a few knocking around.
