The Whiz store players in Westborough, Massachusetts played a map-based campaign in 2014 & 2015. Skip to page 9 for 2015 campaign rules; ignore pages 1-8 unless you're interested in the evolution of our campaign system.
Phase 1 planet (April & May 2014) 25 players
Phase 2 planets (July & August 2014) see page 6 for those rules 19 players
Phase 3 same planets plus Space Hulk scenario on final day of campaign (September, October & November 2014) see page 8 for rules

Phase 5 back to large map campaign for Summer 2015 see page 9 for rules
Games don’t need to all happen at the same time. We'll meet Tuesday nights at 5:00 to choose map tiles.
We want the prize money to be distributed to a couple of different people in order to encourage players to participate, especially new players. The store might also include a GW kit as a prize.
Escalation, Stronghold Assault, Zone Mortalis, APOC and other expansions are encouraged, but we’re hoping for ideas as to how to include them and whether players should earn campaign rewards for playing these types of games.
Player responsibilities: -communication: check in on this thread to stay informed, please complete the survey below. Post weekly updates about games once the campaign begins. Fluff pieces and photos are awesome.
-play to have fun. Example: Consider allowing new players to have more points in their army list so they are having fun too. Consider whether deathstars are fun for your opponent.
-create tokens that can magnetize to the map in the store. Each tile has a rare earth magnet so a nail with a shoulder pad green stuffed on would be great. I am using Epic rhinos with thumbtacks stuck into the bottom.
1.crusade of fire
2. Tuesdays at 5pm, Sundays at 3/3:30
3. I would like to see an overall winner prize, a last place consolation prize(maybe like a thing of dice or small troop box?), a painting prize(I don't think it should be volume based though?), and like a sportsman/fluff creation prize.
4.all expansions no str D shooting.
5.i like the 1500 pt limit. Obviously if you wanna go higher cool. If not that's fine too. I don't want to see any super heavies with str D in this regardless of "fluffy" or not. I'm excited to participate and can't want till everything gets going.
Are we going to limit it to one army book type per person? 1 list for the phase? Changing lists?
My personal preference is take a main army like say IG or whatever, and then you can change lists weekly and change allies but always have to use IG as primary.
Edit: it may also not be a bad idea to limit units to 0-2 of the same unit except troops but including dedicated transports. So no one is rolling up with 4 night scythes, 3 annihalation barges, or 4 wave serpents or whatever ;p
3. A large number of small prizes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, winning team, perhaps something like holding a city.
4. Yes to all four however i would put a points cap on superheavys say 500 points or 25% of your list that sort of thing. as for campaign reward perhaps some bonus points for using at least one of them gets people to try new things without allowing some one to game the system by playing nothing but Zone Mortalis.

a. A big problem i see with both systems but doubly with crusade of fire is that teams are determined by faction. since 40k tends to have more imperial players this makes one team much larger witch in both systems gives an advantage to that side. i propose instead that we re-skin the teams to be based on goals (example: recover ancient artifacts, build strongholds to enforce territorial claims, etc.) then let players pick what they want there goal to be, also keep a list of players who don't care so that they can be assigned to balance out the teams.
b. How do we plan to handle players who cant make the time for choosing map tiles. are they out for the week or is there a mechanism for them to still play that week. as part of this Crusade of fire says that match opponents are chosen by the players with the lowest scores. this is a good system for many reasons but it has a hard time with people not being there when matches are chosen.
c. The various map items like spaceports and shield generators have in game rules in the crusade of fire book. two of these give a controlling player a free bastion / landing platform. this is at once desirable as it may help Chris sell more models however it may also favor those who own or have the means to buy these models. also by having one planet you remove the benifit of the spaceport this may not be a problem just something to be aware of.
I've never played any of these campaigns so I didn't even know that about the teams lol. I'm also glad others have any experience in this at all.
Well probably need to get a list of who's playing what. I'm going to be playing either eldar or necrons so hopefully I won't be the only xenos haha. Although I believe there will be at least 1 chaos/demons player.
Also you bring up a good point about arranging the games. I assumed it was going to be just a play who you can type thing but if there is a set way to choose who plays who well definately need to figure out that as well with a contingency plan or 2.
Are we going to limit it to one army book type per person? 1 list for the phase? Changing lists?
I think we should allow more than one book, and people can change lists. I think the goal should be to allow new players as much access as possible.
it may also not be a bad idea to limit units to 0-2 of the same unit except troops but including dedicated transports. So no one is rolling up with 4 night scythes, 3 annihalation barges, or 4 wave serpents or whatever
I agree. Maybe we discuss this as a gentleman's limit for the experienced players. Sam, Frank & I have played a couple of games recently where we threw in extra points for the weaker list & it was cool & kept the games friendly.
i would put a points cap on superheavys say 500 points or 25% of your list that sort of thing. as for campaign reward perhaps some bonus points for using at least one of them gets people to try new things without allowing some one to game the system by playing nothing but Zone Mortalis.
Cool idea.

Frankr proposed a great solution to this. I'll let him expand.
How do we plan to handle players who cant make the time for choosing map tiles?
Ahh, the deathtouch of any great campaign… well, that and parenthood. I've played in lots of campaigns among adults & this always screws stuff up. I think if a player skips a tile-taking-time then they get stuck with last choice. They could post here & tell us what they want to do, but still get last choice. But I've always suspected that great campaigns require residential living; that is to say there is no good way around this issue.
The various map items like spaceports and shield generators...
I have three extra Bastions & a sky shield that I could leave in store for players to use. But Chris would really appreciate the $upport.
also by having one planet you remove the benifit of the spaceport this may not be a problem just something to be aware of.
Frankr had a good idea about this too. I was thinking we let those tiles be the goal of phase 1. Then when we start phase 2 in June, those are the players who get a head start on expanding to the extra planets (I'm already working on those )
I'm also glad others have any experience in this at all.
Here is the idea I had PM'd InquisitorMack for the campaign vs individual and overall scoring.
I had an idea regarding teams vs individuals.
have both.
Each players points go to their themselves and toward their faction.
at the end we can award prizes for best faction and best player.
I'd suggest normalizing the score for the faction, so that it represents the average player on the faction rather than the best.
so say the there were:
8 imperial players, and they scored 500 points,
3 Chaos players who scored 200 points
5 Xenos players who scored 300 points
by normalizing the date you get
66.6 points/player for Chaos
65.5 points/player for Imperium
60 points/player Xenos
The Chaos team wins.
The idea here is to keep 1 player from causing a specific faction to have a run-away victory. since the factions are decided by the army you play there is less chance of that.
I also think the best player award should go to the player who did best _relative_ to their faction.
in in the above example.
if the best players in the factions had
chaos 90 points
imperium 130 points
Xenos 80 points
divide by the faction average to see how well they did within their faction:
90/66.6 = 135% of faction average score
130/65.5 = 198% of faction average score
80/60 = 133% of faction average score
the idea being this factors in how difficult it was to win with their faction, and so eliminates any sort of easy button.
So the overall winner would be the imperium player who scored 198% of their factions average.
also by having one planet you remove the benifit of the spaceport this may not be a problem just something to be aware of.
Frankr had a good idea about this too. I was thinking we let those tiles be the goal of phase 1. Then when we start phase 2 in June, those are the players who get a head start on expanding to the extra planets (I'm already working on those )
I think that was Mr Walsh that came up with this idea it was that if you couldn't make any moves for whatever reason(adjacent players not present for games, etc), then you could use the space station to deepstrike somewhere to challenge a non-adjacent player. But only if you couldn't challenge someone next to you.
I like all those ideas frank. I wonder if there is a way to also incorporate strength of schedule into the overall. As I think it'd be a pretty good idea as well. I guess that kind of does but only partially.
Y'all probably know who the "Veterans" are, versus the new recruits. I'd suggest setting up "Hot Zones" on the map, that the Veterans fight over, and allow the Rooks rookies to square off in other regions of the map. You can trust in honor and sportsmanship to keep the Vets away from the Rooks. If someone wants to punch up above their weight class, then by all means do so. But they know what they're getting into.
A "Hot Zone" is a no-holds-barred festival of death, where Screamerstars compete with AV15 void-shielded defence lines (British spelling, don't you know). The vets are expected to bring their A++ game.
The "Flanks" are where second-line (in story, but not in heart) troops battle it out. Secondary objectives that make for exceptional stories (think 'Black Hawk Down', Kelly's Heroes, etc.) Here is where you'd put stronger limits on what can be brought to the table, perhaps run "Escalation" style, allowing new players to build up their forces to the point where they can engage in the Hot Zones. Knights are expensive, Eldar Titans triply so. Lower the barrier to entry for the campaign, and you'll support the store (purchases during the campaign) AND ease new players into the now-crazy-expensive world of unlimited 40K.
That's an interesting idea but it leaves out a class of players like me and frank. We are by no means noobs but we run lists that are closer to fluff bunny than screamer star. its a campaign not a tornement.
Chancetragedy wrote: I like all those ideas frank. I wonder if there is a way to also incorporate strength of schedule into the overall. As I think it'd be a pretty good idea as well. I guess that kind of does but only partially.
I'm not sure you can completely deal with strength of schedule in this format. I think you can do it in a 100+ player event, but with a limited number of players that becomes impossible.
Briancj wrote:

I don't necessarily agree that bringing those units is bringing your A++ game, in-fact I think death stars are crutches to allow for easier game play.
However that's not the point of what you posted. I think a simpler options is to simply have both players agree on what supplements they want to play with.
I think we should keep the game to the BRB for "standard" games. But allow players to agree to play an advanced game, or play a Zone Mortalis game, or even a kill team game. (I'd suggest Big Jim's Special Operations Kill Zone rather than Kill Team, since the rules are free online and I believe he just issued, or is about to issue, an update for them)
Again, this is about people recognizing what play level they feel comfortable with, and engaging in an 'old school' social contract, where both sides of the table are responsible for ensuring everyone has a good time.
Omnis Arcanum wrote: That's an interesting idea but it leaves out a class of players like me and frank. We are by no means noobs but we run lists that are closer to fluff bunny than screamer star. its a campaign not a tournament.
I would just like to point out frank is running centurionstar ;p. obviously you guys know I have no problem playing against badass lists and such(and even welcome it as the most active tournament player), the only thing I'd really like to avoid is Str D shooting. I'd also like this to be more campaign/league than tournament.
I like the ideas so far though guys, and I do like the hot spot idea, but not necessarily as "experienced" only.
And yah that's why I said it's probably not possible to count strength of schedule. I figured I'd throw it out there for you learned folk to maybe come up with something ;p
So
15$ entrance fee
6 weeks
Crusade of fire campaign system
1500 pts (can agree with opponent to do whatever though)
Franks point normalization idea to score the teams evenly.
Lets make a decision of prize support breakdown.
Best overall
Best per side(winner of best overall excluded)
What else should win a prize?
What else do we need so we can get this in writing and to MR Walsh?
Thinking of spreading the prizes around more:
Using the Crusade of FIre book, at the end of each week, players place a flag on another territory & count up flags. That is how many conquest points they've scored. They can add that to a Factional (team) Tracker or Personal (individual) Tracker.
At the end of the campaign, we would use Frank's scale to adjust team & individual trackers. Then everyone on the winning Faction gets a prize plus the best score on the other Factions (there's 3 in Crusade of Fire). Depending on how many people that is, the size of prizes would be:
30ish% of prizes: Best individual of winning Faction
20ish% & 20ish%: Best individual of each of the other 2 factions
10ish% to each other player on the winning team.
Of course, we haven't heard from many people as to what armies they want to play so these numbers might not work. I'm going to play whatever army helps even the numbers out for the smallest faction.
Could everyone post what army they want to play?
Week #1 April 8 thru 14
Week #2 April 15 thru 21
Week #3 April 22 thru 28
Week #4 April 29 thru May 5
Week #5 May 6 thru 12
Week #6 May 13 thru 19
Prizes distributed Tuesday May 20th
We are officially using the Crusade of Fire rules. By official, I mean I made photocopies of the rules & will distribute next Tuesday.
Your To Do list: -Post name & army here so we can figure out factions. I'll play whatever faction needs an extra. Factions are Imperial, Chaos, & Xenos.
-Create 15 metal tokens which will stick to magnets on the map. Nail with flag at a minimum.
-Arrive by 5 pm April 8th with a 1500 point list. Call the Whiz if you are running late & ask for Gil.
-Pay $15 league fee & give receipt to me (Gil)
Factions as of April 1st:
Imperium AKA Crusade of Fire IGDave with Imperial Guard
Omnis Arcanum with Space Marines
DeadShotJoker with Imperial Guard & Space Marines
Fryelock1 with Black Templars (Space Marines)
Social Stigma with Sam Knights aka Grey Knights
Xenos AKA Prophets of War Chancetragedy with Eldar
frankr with Tau
Bob with Eldar & maybe Space Wolves… need to confirm which.
Inquisitormack with Imperial Guard led by a robed and hooded figure, concealing dark power armour shorn of livery beneath, and bearing a sword and two pistols of great antiquity.
Chaos AKA Servants of Ruin
?
?
At 5:30pm, all Chaos (or everyone if no one plays Chaos) players will roll a pair of dice. Highest roll chooses 1 territory. Player to the left chooses next until each player has chosen 1. Then players reverse order & choose second territory. Continue choosing & reversing order until each player has claimed 5 or 7* territories. *5 or 7 may change depending on how many are present. A player's tokens must be placed adjacent to one another.
Player who rolled highest then issues 1st challenge. Challenges are issued until each player has a game. In case of odd number, last three play a three way game using the Relic mission.
Claiming territories. Winners of challenges conquer one territory of the player they challenged. But what if you are the loser? You loose a territory, but you have the rest of the week to try & play more games. If you win any, you may claim an unclaimed territory on the following Tuesday at 5:30pm until all territories have been claimed. Then you're out of luck. Buy new dice.
Players may only claim or lose a maximum of one territory per week. You could lose one and win another, but you may not lose two or gain two in one week. You do earn points for playing & winning games though.
Points: Playing but losing 1 point. Playing and winning 2 points. Playing an Escalation, APOC, Zone Mortalis game +1 point. Post all points here. If your opponent wants to play Escalation or APOC or Zone Mortalis or whatever and you don't want to, roll off. Challenger adds 1 to their roll result.
This is what we're aiming for. I intend to be at the Whiz each Tuesday & Sunday for anyone who needs games. I also play MTG and X-wing if anyone wants to try those instead.
People who cannot play the variant rules (Mostly Apocalypse and Escalation, due to the expense of the army required) are also at a disadvantage.
For anyone who interested, I have 15+ armies & each of the books for the expansions that I don't mind loaning out to encourage new players to try new stuff. I also have an addiction- can anyone guess what? Frankr is a fan of APOC & Zone Mortalis if anyone wants to try those. But if opponents don't, talk it out or settle it with the dice roll described above.
1. Campaign rules: Which book would you prefer? Imperial Armour or Crusade of Fire?
Never played either so whatever works...
2. When would you prefer to meet for choosing map tiles? Tuesday night or Sunday? What time of day?
either works for me
3. How would you like prize money distributed?
1st and 2nd and last for campaign
best painted single model
best overall army
4. Thoughts on expansions?
no cares either way
5. Other thoughts/ questions?
None
I will be playing Imperial Guard(hopefully all built and at least primed before the campaign) and if Im shy a few points, I will be allying a few Space Marine pieces
I also haven't played in 6 years so please consider me a Newb...
I will be playing Sam Knights also known as the 666th chapter of the space marines also known as GK also known as Grey Knights. I will be at the whiz on the 8th before 5pm and try to have my 15 magnetic pegs ready on that date as well. see you all there. I am also already checking myself in/out of the following dates:
4/13 (sunday) and 4/15 (tuesday) wont be available on those two dates.
I'm not gonna be able to make this Tuesday as it's 2 days after adepticon and I gotta put in some family time ;p. I can make this Sunday the 13'th though if anyone is down to play.
Unfortunately because of work I'll be at the store by 6pm on Tuesday but I'll be ready with my 1500point list and and my flags. Anything that needs to be decided on my behalf can be made by my team or Gil.
I lost my challenge but I still retain all of my tiles, so I think I have 3 points this week (one for playing, one for holding a bastion, and one for playing 'Stronghold Assault').
Chuck here, Frank and I had a pretty epic battle over a Holy Relic. Frank wiped a good half of my army off the board before I managed to snag the objective. Thankfully my warlord had Blood of the Martyrs netting me 10 campaign points for running my poor troops into those pulse rifles plus another 2 points for a victory. Overall a very exciting battle to begin the campaign. Imperial Victory. The Emperor Protects
IGDave & I played. I won & scored 2 points, he scored 1 for playing plus 5 for his Grand Warlord trait I think. If everyone could post their Grand Warlord traits, that would be great.
I will try to come in Sunday for extra games if anyone wants one, but there is a Flames of War tournament Sunday. If anyone wants to reschedule for Saturday I could do that.
Hey everybody. I played InquisitorMack. I lost, I scored 6 points total. 1 point for playing and 5 points for my grand warlord trait "The blood of Maytyrs". InquisitorMack won and scored 2 points.
I lost my battle and the Bastion tile to Nick and his Tau army... Very upsetting but I will take that back next week.
so I had 1 point towards the Imperium and i get a +5 depending if our faction is leading or not
Won my game against Isaiah.
Got 2 for winning, 1 for playing escalation, and 2 for holding a shield generator from my warlord trait which was number 3 on xenos "ruiner of worlds" I rolled it in front of Chris, So it's verified.
So I think I got 5 pts but didn't take a tile as Isaiah doesn't have any.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also how OP is blood of martyrs lol. That's almost guaranteed 10 pts per battle. So someone could theoretically have a win in escalation losing half his models and that's 13 points guaranteed. Brutal haha.
Won my game against Rob Gise.
Got 2 for winning. Already claimed a tile from earlier this week.
Total for week 1: 2+2=4
If anyone hears from Justin, ask him what army he is playing so we can nail down teams.
Totals as of Sunday April 13th: IGDave, Dave IG 6 pts
Omnis Arcanum, Eric SM 8 pts
DeadShotJoker, Joe IG 1pt +5possibly if faction is in lead, Gil waiting for rest of scores to update

I'm Nick and I beat Joe' guard 9 to 1, that means I got 2 campaign points and he got one, I also captured his tile with a bastion on it. For campaign traits I got selfless sacrifice.
My dad's name is Bob and he Beat Chris 8 to 5. He rolled sworn enemy on the table.
I am not going to be able to make it tomorrow (Tuesday). My cat was attacked by something & I need to take her to the vet. The rules tell who gets to challenge first & then work through challenges from there. Sorry guys & have fun.
Oh, and a little fun detail Dave & I realized during our game. Certain Imperial Guard (Astra Militarium) units have ranges of 240" or something crazy like that. Ask the group if they're cool with allowing those weapons to shoot at other tables so alliances can "help each other out". Fun little twist.
I played Nick R. And won 13-6 taking his hive city. We didn't play anything special so
2pts win
2pts shield generator(warlord) end of turn
5 pts hive city(warlord) end of turn
Manufactorum 1 points, end of turn
for 10 points total.
For week 2, I got a game in with Dave B (whooo I played warhammer again whooo).
We played Purge the Alien with no expansions, and I won 13 - 6. My campaign trait doesn't grant points, and Dave wasn't able to kill half my army for his, so it's just 2 campaign points for me and 1 for him.
I took one of his central tiles, and there wasn't an empty tile open for me to take with my campaign warlord trait. If the planet expands, can I claim one of the new tiles?
Chuck here, my first game of week two I played Sean and his Eldar. I got 2 points for winning plus another 5 from Blood of Martyrs for killing over half of Sean's Eldar. Sean got 1 point for playing I'm not quite sure which Warlord trait he has though. I'm going to be around tomorrow too if anyone is interested in playing a game
Played Michael Frye and ended up in a tie. It was a long learning game and was absolutely a great learning night for us.
We each got 1 point for playing but no win point.
Michaels grand trait earned him 2 points for keeping his force field generator giving him a total of 3 points added to the Imperium bank.
My grand trait will bank the imperium 5 points if the imperium is in the lead
So 4 minimum and 9 maximum for the imperium bank pending the week lead results.
Lost to Steve's eldar 5 to 9 and my dad Bob won 3 to 2 against mike x
Pandaman, does this mean the score of the game was 3 to 2 or your dad's campaign points were 3 to 2?
Please double check my math especially if your warlord trait is funky.
Totals as of Easter morning April 20th Week #2 results in red

I played another game also on Saturday against Eric D's Blood Ravens and lost that game to him.
Eric got 2 points for winning but Im not sure what his trait is though
I got 1 point for playing and then my trait on this game if my faction is in the lead adds another 5 points
I also gained another additional 5 points for the game played against chris B
My total points gained on Saturday was 12 if my faction is in the lead and 2 if not
I have now played a total of 4 games since quitting 6 years ago haha Im getting the hang of it better now so Ill win one soon. Just need to tweak my army to find my warriors
@joe - Ruiner of worlds, tyrants domain, selfless sacrifice, and master of the crusade are end of turn points. So you'd only get them once per week not for every game. Other than that glad your getting the hang of things and having fun welcome back!
If everyone could make sure to read your rules packet and just make sure your reporting the right points per game/week we will be much better off so we don't have to go back later and adjust. If you have any questions feel free to ask Gil, mr Walsh, or I(Steve).
Also I still can't get over how good the blood of martyrs/slayer of men warlord traits are ;p. really wish I had rolled a 2 not a 3.
And to all the xenos guys let's have a little powwow tues before we go on to figure out what our plan of action(if any) is going to be in the campaign. Because the monkeigh's are starting to pull ahead! I'm fine with acting like xenos and being every man for himself, but there are other options too ;p
I won against alejandro's eldar on 4/19/14 got 2 points for winning and another 5 for the great hunter warlord trait.
please let me know if I missed anything as im kind of new to this system.
Also I still can't get over how good the blood of martyrs/slayer of men warlord traits are ;p. really wish I had rolled a 2 not a 3.
I'm feeling a little guilty that I did not share these rules before the campaign began, but I did not realize how strong they could be. The pro is that it keeps the campaign friendly because we realize that it is really all just a game of chance. The con is that if someone is really gunning to win the campaign, then they could be a significant disadvantage if they did not roll a good Warlord trait. I'd be fine with keeping or dropping the Grand Warlord traits for the June Phase 2, but that's up to the players.
Thinking of prizes at the end of Phase 1 & us not having three factions: Initially I had written:
At the end of the campaign, we would use Frank's scale to adjust team & individual trackers. Then everyone on the winning Faction gets a prize plus the best score on the other Factions (there's 3 in Crusade of Fire). Depending on how many people that is, the size of prizes would be:
30ish% of prizes: Best individual of winning Faction
20ish% & 20ish%: Best individual of each of the other 2 factions
10ish% to each other player on the winning team.
I think with only 2 factions we can adjust this to:
35ish% of prizes: Best individual of winning Faction
25ish% Best individual of the other faction.
remainder distributed to each other player on the winning team, but requiring atleast some games having been played. But I'm open to any other ideas; post here.
Because we are doing this as a friendly thing I have no problem with keeping the warlord traits as I think it adds some spice for sure, I just think we should alter those 2 points wise I'm thinking more like 3/6(enemies killed/losses of your own). Because seriously with that warlord trait I could probably just win for my team and myself based on my points alone ;p. I could almost guarantee myself 22-33points a week without even really winning games, and who's gonna keep pace with that lol. Whether or not the players with those traits are going to do that probably makes it a moot point. But eventually they'll wise up I'm sure ;p
Also are we scoring points per week for tiles held? Or just games played/warlord traits? I'm still a touch confused about scoring.
Also that prize breakdown seems fine, I'd say you should have at least 4-5 games played spread over at least 4 weeks(no getting 4 games last week of campaign just for a prize) to be in consideration for prizes on the winning team.
1) It was unintentionally misreported that I had lost in last week's game against Rob. We weren't aware of how different the Relic mission was from standard objective games. Apparently the Relic can only be seized at the end of a movement phase, but Rob's Tyranids weren't able to reach the objective until he ran to it in the shooting phase. The score was actually 2-0 because of that.
2) I won't be able to make it tonight but I'll be able to get a game in tomorrow night if anyone's interested.
Ended up beating the Sam knights and took a tile.
2 points for winning
+1 for stronghold
Total 3 points.
At the end of the turn I'll have
+5 hive city(warlord)
+2 shield generator(warlord)
+1 Manufactorum
For a total of 8 points +3 for winning giving me a total of 11 for the week.
Gil Week one i should have +4 for tiles because i started the game with 3 and played one game that week for a bonus one = 4 tiles.
Thanks
Also does anyone want to play a game today or tomorrow? (4/23/14 or 4/24/14)
I will check DAKKA DAKKA around 4pm today and tomorrow if i get no replys i will not be at the store.
I got a game in against Mike Frye last night. I won with three objectives and his warlord. He only had first blood(note: Sorcerers are allergic to Demolisher rounds).
I get 2 campaign points, one of Mike's tiles, and a second, empty tile. Mike has the Trait where he gets extra points for holding power plants and spaceports- I don't know if he has any to get points from, but it'll be 1 point plus any he gets from the Trait.
Chuck here, I played Mr. Walsh's Tau and after 6 turns we ended up with a stalemate. Neither of us could break the other's lines or claim the objective at the center of the table. I didn't gain any points for the campaign from my warlord trait, the Tau were just too dug in for me to do enough damage. Not sure what Mr. Walsh's warlord trait is but we both received 1 point for playing a game
I played Joe P. We played Big Guns Never Tire with a final game score of 10 to 6. I won and got 2 points for winning plus 5 points for Blood of Martyrs for a total of 7 campaign points. Joe P got 1 point and 5 points for Selfless Sacrifice (if we remain in the lead) for a total of 6 campaign points. Since we are on the same team that should be 13 campaign points total for the team.
We currently have 23 players participating in phase 1 of the campaign. We have 3 weeks left to go. While it would be neat to finish with a big APOC game or something, I don't see how you get 23 people into one game much less into the store at any one time. I expect to just keep playing games as usual and announce the campaign winners on Tuesday May 20th. What would you guys like improved / added / changed for phase 2? More planets / less planets? 1500 points or 1750 or more? Change Grand Warlord traits? Anyone have any dates that would be bad for them? I would prefer to begin after school ends around the end of June in order to free up time for people to get more painting done, but I realize some folks go on vacation over the summer.
I like the 1500 pt limit for this, games are quick and fun.
And yah if even half the people show up an apoc game will be a nightmare ;p. but there are also people asking me outside the campaign if we're doing an apoc game. So if we decide to go that route I have some ideas to speed things up and make it a very smooth and enjoyable process.
Hey Guys,
I played Alejandro's Eldar and won. I got 2 points and Alejandro got 1.
I also Played Bob's Tyranids and won. Bob was my sworn enemy for the week. Bob got one 1 for the loss. I got 7 points 2 points for playing and winning and +5 for fighting a sworn enemy.
I thought I was able to take tiles for the win until my game against steve on Sat. night, I had taken a tile from Bob on the very outer edge of the board. This tile needs to go back to Bob,
Played chuck and won using stronghold. I took his power station.
Total week 4
+2 - win against Chuck
+2 - win against Gil
+1 - stronghold
+1 - Manufactorum(end of turn)
+9 - warlord(end of turn)
+6 - tiles (end of turn)
21 - total(end of turn)
Mike ill be at there on friday and saturday if you cant find a game, and if anyone else wants a game ill most likely be bringing my brother alejandro(eldar).
I received a solid whooping from mikes guard, but we both agreed that there would be no tiles involved, so mike gets +2 and i get 1 for playing. If not taking tiles is not allowed then mike gets a tile.
but we both agreed that there would be no tiles involved, so mike gets +2 and i get 1 for playing. If not taking tiles is not allowed then mike gets a tile.
Spreadsheet for the first three weeks & second spreadsheet for the first four weeks attached. Please check my math & post how many points you've scored for tiles.
I beat Chuck's Imperial Guard we agreed no tiles would be taken, I got 2pts for winning another 5pts for my "Great Hunter" trait and chuck got 1pt for playing as he did not kill quite enough for blood of martyrs.
I might have a work thing tomorrow night & not be able to make it down to the Whiz. I have the second planet's map in my trunk though so that kind of jams up people on that planet- sorry. Hopefully people have an idea of how many tiles they have this week without seeing the map.
Just got an email from the bits store I ordered more tiles from- they were lost in the mail. Sorry guys on second planet; we need to wait awhile longer as they resend.
Week 3 (sworn enemy Bob Tyranids)
5 Tiles (one tile was earned from fighting Nicks Tau)
7 points for playing Bobs bugs and winning
2 points for playing Nick
2 points for playing Alejandro's eldar
2 points for playing Steve's eldar
Week 4 (sworn enemy Steve)
5 tiles
2 points for playing Isaiah's Spacewolves
1 point for warlord
Week 5 (so far)(sworn enemy Adam's dark eldar)
6 tiles (One for playing Adam on tuesday the 6th. The tiles we played for were none nondescript, so next week we can figure it out.)
7 points for playing Adam's dark eldar (sworn enemy)
Total 39 points. I am not sure if i will be able to get another game this week because I will be demoing zombicide and rivet wars at Tas-con on sat.
NickR, Chuck, Eric with back turned, SteveB, SamL
Nick & Bob
Sean, MikeX,DaveB, ChrisB, Adam leaning over table, Joe
VenVulkan Thanks for organizing your points- I could just cut & paste straight into the spreadsheet. I think Sworn Enemy means your sworn enemy is the same person all campaign.
CAMPAIGN JUNE & JULY PHASE 2 IMPROVEMENTS
Phase 2 is where we all remove all tokens from maps & begin the entire campaign from scratch in order to use what we've learned so far & have moar phen!
I've been thinking of improving the campaign for the next phase beginning in June. Chris was originally planning on updating the map using photo bucket (see blue & yellow map), but running the store is making him busy enough. I ordered more tiles for a second map, but they were lost in the mail so that jammed us up too. The Grand Warlord traits are neat, but require more communication than is feasible with life's interruptions.
Here are some solutions:
Hopefully the new set of tiles will arrive soon & I will get the second planet done. I also got a hole puncher that makes paper circles the same size as a model's base so that we can write our names on the paper & it is visible on the map in between the magnet & token. I'm going to divide the big planet map into two or more smaller planets so that when I take pictures of the map (with the name tags & tokens) we can read them easily & view the maps each week in this thread. I plan on making the planets be the same as in the Crusade of Fire book. I'd also like to reward players who buy their own copy of the book with campaign points-20 points?. I have some extra copies that I got on eBay for $20, but I've since seen them on eBay for cheaper.
1. As for the Grand Warlord traits, there are some that are lousy. I think we should change Selfless Sacrifice because it is very difficult to track if people don't play each week or players of the same faction play each other & both earn points. What do you think?
2. Also, I like SteveB's idea of each player's points going towards both the faction & the individual, but what do we do if players on the same faction play each other?
3. What about increasing points for winning or losing a game? When I lose a game for 1 point, but my warlord trait gives me +5 for something random, it feels wrong.
4. How to deal with challengers losing a game- who gets a tile & which tile is it?
5. What dates are good for the second phase? I'm busy June 24th. Would folks want to wait until July 1st to begin? Is Tuesday night the best night for that first week's tile deployment or should we have some planets open for the first Tuesday night deployment & different planets for the Sunday players?
6. How many map tiles should each player begin with? We need to have open spaces so that some Grand Warlord traits actually work.
I think we should figure out different warlord traits for sure. Some are so much better than other it stinks.
I definately agree about the changing of points for a win/loss. I'm thinking something like 5 win, 2 loss. As you said I think the points should go to both the campaign or the people. Unless we just want to make it prizes for the top 2 regardless of race then split the rest for the people below that to a point. But that sort of feels like it's defeating the team aspect so idk.
We can make a pool of 12 warlord traits that are 2-3 points per game max. Like objectives almost, accomplish your trait get the points. Eliminating the need to track whose ahead or other jazz like that.
I had a game on Tuesday the 6th against Dave B. I won for 2 points and Dave got 1 for playing. Pretty lousy game for Dave, except the part where Yarrick sucker-punched my Lord off his bike.
I grabbed one of Dave's Tiles on the first planet, but the secondary board wasn't there, so I still need to take a second empty one.
One more week to get games in. We will announce winners and prizes next Tuesday night. We will also be awarding prizes for Best Sportsmanship so if you can't make it Tuesday night, call the store or PM me here.
Bob Gise is also looking for games this Sunday. If no one can make it, I'll be down, but if anyone else is going to the store on Sunday, that'll save me a trip.
I played Sean and his Eldar tonight and won the game 4-3. It came down to the last turn and was so close that it was my favorite game so far this campaign and the closest.
We played for his spaceport
So I got +2 for winning
I gained a tile and his spaceport bringing me up to 3 tiles with 1 objective
I also get +5 if my faction is in the lead thanks to my warlord trait
I played an extremely close game with nick's tau, and ended up winning i got 2 for winning and 5 for my warlord trait, we agreed no tiles would be taken.
Chuck here, I won against Bob's Tyranids yesterday and got 2 points for winning and 5 for blood of the martyrs. I haven't gotten to put a new tile marker up yet
I played an extra game today against Chuck and his guard and lost in the end.
So I got 1 point
He got 2 points for winning and for his Warlord trait he lost half of his army and I lost half of mine so he got 10 points for a total of 12 for the game.
No tiles were played for
I played another game with Eric D today and it was the closest and most heart pounding game yet.
It went for 6 turns and in the end it came down to First blood which did not happen until turn 2 which ended in a score of 9-8.
He challenged me for my spaceport and in the end he won.
I get +1 for playing and he gets +2 for winning and he got my Spaceport
I am now back down to 2 tiles
Spread sheet #2 has the total points for the entire campaign up to Saturday night.
PLEASE check my math because we have a tie! Xenos faction has scored at least 397 points, but I am waiting to hear from Alejandro and Chris Bradley for the results of their games. Imperial faction has scored 467 points and the top players of Eric & Chuck are tied at 87! Only Sunday, Monday and Tuesday til 5:30pm left to score points!
Chuck here, Eric and I played a nail-biter of a game today, I won by only one point. I didn't kill enough for my warlord trait so I got 2 point for winning and Eric got 1 for playing. A hell of a game, I can't wait for the rematch. I also put my marker on the map from my game on tues so I now have 9 tiles
For week 6 i played a game vs Mike B, I lost losing one tile
i played an additional game vs Joe, i won and took his spaceport
i played an additional game vs chuck, i lost
We used no special rules
my grand warlord trait is master of the crusade giving me +5 for holding the spaceport +5 for the spaceport i took from Joe +2 for holding a bastion
i hold 8 territories
me and chuck have made a gentlemen's agreement that the game we played was the last one we would count for the campaign so we should be able to compute a winner.
me and chuck have made a gentlemen's agreement that the game we played was the last one we would count for the campaign so we should be able to compute a winner.
Color me impressed.
If anyone is not coming out to play Tuesday night, please call Chris at the Whiz or PM me here who your vote for sportsmanship award is.
I think your math is off a bit, Eric and I were both at 87 points for this week before our game today. I think I'm at 89 and hes at 88. I could be wrong though
Mantank303 wrote: I think your math is off a bit, Eric and I were both at 87 points for this week before our game today. I think I'm at 89 and hes at 88. I could be wrong though
It is what it is, check the spreadsheet. I don't know what Gil was talking about because if you add the points my math is right. I added up the first 5 weeks then used your last weeks posts to make the 6th weeks points. Don't get me wrong I'm hoping your scores are accurate because then I came out on top points wise ;p
I played against Chris Botril(I hope I'm not mangling that name). He's not in the campaign, but Gil was willing to allow me to count it.
It was well-played, but I managed to climb to an objective on turn 7 and clinch it. We had a chance to talk about his scenario too(in between my shouting )
That's 2 points for winning, but I'm not sure how you want to work out the tiles- I'll get an empty one for my warlord trait, but Chris doesn't really have any to take. Either way's fine.

We'll find out on tuesday, either way we're all crazy close on points which is pretty awesome. It's gonna be a photo finish
Double check my math:
EricD had 76 points plus
L vs MikeB +1=77
W vs Joe +2=79
L vs Chuck +1=80
Tiles +8=88
2 spaceports, Warlord trait +10=98
Bastion +2=100
Chuck had 60 points plus
W vs Joe +2=62
W vs BobR +2=64
W vs EricD +2=66
Warlord +15=81
Tiles +9=90
SteveB=96
Imperium = 483
Xenos=399
Prizes given out last night. Thanks to everyone for a great campaign. We will begin another round using the Crusade of Fire book July 1st thru August 5th with prizes distributed August 12th. Some have asked to move the points up to 1750 while some like the 1500 point limit. The purpose of these campaigns is to encourage new folks to play so no power lists or list tailoring. I'll make more planets this time. Keep making cool tokens, but add your name somehow so it is obvious who is who.
We were discussing some ways of dealing with the unbalanced Grand Warlord traits in the Crusade of Fire book. Ideas so far are: (1) don't bother using them, (2) let players choose them instead of rolling randomly and (3) come up with our own. We have one month to come up with our own so post any ideas you have here.
I have thought at length about how to redesign the system to better fin our groups needs I will post my ideas below. I am including minimal expansion at this time because I'm typing this on a cell phone but I am happy to explain my reasoning.
Personal points and team points are split up and come from different sourses.
First personal points, each game you play gives you points for the following things
2 points for playing
2 more points for wining
1 point for special missions as per the last campaign
1 point for your oponant being from a different team than you are
Next you get extra points from your first game each week. At the beginning of the campaign each player declares themselves as normal or veteran
Normal players gain
2 points for playing during there first game of the week
Veteran players gain
3 points for winning there first game of the week
However if that lose there oponant gains 1 point
Campaign points determine the wining team you can gain one each game by completing your grand warlord trait. Each player selects a grand warlord trait at the start of the campaign.
Exicutiner - at the start of the game your oponant chosses one of there units. You gain a campaign point if you destroy that unit
Archeotech - at at the start of the game your oponant places one objecive outside both players deployment zones. You gain a campaign point if you control that objective. The objectiv dose not give victory points for that game
Bucher - You gain a campaign point if you destroy half your opponent's units
Please post ideas for other grand warlord traits and also try these out for fun over the next month to see if any are too week or too powerful.
I like this idea. It makes sure to have a separation of personal and team. Also these traits and having the ability to not score 10+ points for your team every game keeps it more level and closer. It will actually pay off to win games
I vote yes on the above
If the warlord is killed during gameplay, his body then becomes a "relic" and both sides must fight to control the body only the owner of the warlord trait can gain the point for this. Determined by end of game
My thoughts on format and warlord traits
2 pts loss
7/3 pts first/second and any subsequent wins per week
Warlord traits D6 roll at the beginning of campaign gain 5/10 points once per week so no escalating points levels to obscene numbers due to multiple games. So how it works is you have a basic trait and an "escalated trait" the basic trait earns you 5pts for accomplishing. But if you accomplish the basic and escalated you gain 10pts not 5, pretty simple.
#1 sever the head - 5pts kill all HQ's from your opponents army, 10pts kill all characters in an opponents army.
#2 survivalist - 5pts have at least 1 unit alive at end of game, 10pts have at least half your army alive at end of game(units not models)
#3 tactical genius - 5pts roll D3 maelstrom objectives and complete 2 of them, 10pts roll a second D3 objectives and complete 4/6.
#4 objective secured - 5pts control a tactical objective(bastion, power generator, and whatnot), 10pts control a hive city/star port and another tactical objective.(I'm not sure about this one because it feels very different than the in game ones I've come up with, thoughts?)
#5 the great devourer - 5pts gain first blood and last blood, 10pts kill at least half of your opponents units.
#6 crush their wills - 5pts kill all the opponents HQ's, 10pts kill the opponents most expensive unit.
Also since they're in the main rulebook I say we allow lords of war. Just my .02$
I think Chance's warlord traits are a good mix of the previous discussion ideas. I vote we go with those. I won't be coming to the Whiz next Tuesday, but intend to have the map ready to go when we begin July 1st. For those who can't make it Tuesdays, we will have some planets that we leave open for claiming on Sunday July 6th. After that, players can challenge for any territories they wish.
My thoughts are
No - unbound is crazy and you can already get close to it with double cads. So I'd say let's just keep it simple.
No - FW is still fairly unknown for a lot of players and there are still some crazy OP things in there.
Yes - strD is not what it used to be so I'd say let's allow it. Being able to take cover/invuln has really tamed it down. Also since it's in the actual rulebook now I figure it's time to let it ride.
I have a few questions about the warlord traits that you decided on Gill.
How do we determine the 1/2 place to get the 7/3 points?
So you are requiring maelstrom objectives to be played in every game? If not hen whoever gets that trait gets screwed if their opponent wants to play basic games instead of adding more maelstrom objectives
Not every trait allows you to have 5/10 points per week as #5 and 6 only allow 5 points
So in recap, while I like a couple of those traits, they all don't work 100% with every game type and they aren't even points wise.
If we look back at he other set listed listed by Omnis the traits he listed and the couple that a few of us came up with all work without any special things needed to be added. They also don't allow for point spikes either
Are the traits based off of what you would like to run or what the group would like to run? I know myself and 2 others(not including Omnis) that are on board for that one already as well. We can also mix in a few of the traits that work from the list above
I don't have any preference for which traits we choose; I did not use any during the first round of the campaign. You guys can work it out here on the forums. I'm working on the map & more terrain for the store so will be preoccupied with that. Your ideas are all cool; pick whichever & let me know so that I can track them for everyone when the campaign starts.
As for your questions, ask Chance b/c he came up with those traits.

I agree that the maelstrom is the weakest trait IMO and that's why I specifically asked for suggestions here. We absolutely don't need this one if we can come up with another in-game type trait so every one has a similar chance of accomplishing warlord traits.
There is no first or second place to determine points, it's wins per week. So your first win gives you 7pts but after that you only get 3 points for each win.
I edited the #5 and #6 traits for formatting.
And what do you mean by point spikes? The warlord traits are capped at 10 points max. We could adjust the win points and make it a 5/3 split for first win or second win. Then change the warlord points. But this way everyone should be able to accomplish some type of objective.
I based it off of what I thought was simple and would be easy for the most people to get points somehow.
Actually something just occurred to me- why do we need to only have 6 traits to choose from? Why not let people roll on the "chart" of their choosing just like in the rulebook?
Chancetragedy wrote: My thoughts are

A lot of codex units are fairly unknown and many are crazy OP. Hell I would say forgeworld rules are more balanced than core rules at this point.
Forgeworld is part of the game not " needs opponents permission" so we should use the same care in excluding it that we would use if we were to change elements of the core rule book.
The point spikes were in reference to the last trait sets. Your sets do not spike either.
Now are your game points for winning and loosing separate from the warlord traits so that there is a separation of team and personal?
Having the best overall player based on wins and then team is important to have
On the forgeworld note, I don't see why we can't use them. If you have the rules for the model to present to your opponent it's the same as presenting your codex to them. And I know I don't know everything in the codex for all of my possible opponents.
Also, super heavy Lord of Wars are not in basic codex so unless you have the required material, you can't run them.
If we have two table to choose from, chance and Omnis, it actually works out well... With Omnis we could change it to a constant 7 points for each trait and then if they choose chance table it gives them the chance to score 10 but also if they don't complete both they can only get 5. So it comes down to how confident each person feels about their army and skills
@deadshot - Oh yah you always get Points for winning and losing. Warlord traits are just a seperate way to accumulate points like the last league. We still track individual and team points. We've jus adjusted how many points people are earning per game/per phase.
Also I really like that idea about the seperate warlord traits. I think the idea of making one 5/10 and one a flat 7pts makes them fun and different as well. Like you said if you think you can accomplish both my traits might be better. But the trade off is you get less if you just go for the basic. Frankly I don't really care about which traits we use as long as they are easily accomplished for a wide variety of games/skill levels. I'm sure I'll do fine regardless of what we use. I will caution that Nobody wants to lose over and over while getting 0 points. But if your consistantly pull 7+ points a week while accomplishing a goal it is much more palatable.
@fjr and omnis - if people want FW I'm cool with that. Again I don't "really" care either way.
How would you guys like to split up the prize money? I would like to spread the prize$ around as much as possible to encourage new players to be able to buy new toys. Here's some ideas:
-most territories
-most planets with at least one tile claimed
-most entire planets conquered
-most points overall
-most points on winning team
-most games played
Oh, did I mention we'll have a bunch of planets this phase?!
I like
Most points overall(maybe best overall, with paint included. I want to incorporate paint as well, thoughts?)
Most points for winning side(unless best overall, then maybe second or eliminate this one all together?)
Most points losing side
As sort of the main 3 prizes
Then have smaller but more numerous ones like
Most entire planets conquered (is this even possible? How many tiles are each planet?)
Most tiles
Most "strategic assets"
Most games played
Most planets with at least 1 conquered tile
And such maybe limit at 5/6.
I'm gonna spread the word on this Tuesday as well. But we submitted an event form for Saturday the 5th of July for an apoc game. If you have any questions PM me or talk to me on Tuesday.
Planets will be all sorts of sizes & different amounts of strategic assets. The map will closely resemble the Crusade of Fire book map for those fluff bunnies out there.
Yah sure gun I think I can do that, I will say the first leg of the league/campaign/whatever you wanna call it was amazingly fun. We had quite a few people signed up and actively playing(over 20). And for the first league we've run at this store in a while a few of us were blown away about the response.
I'll try to format the rules and what not sometime next week and post them.
INFO for phase 2 of campaign
Current progress of campaign map:
Phase 1 map had 60 tiles & then we "added" the second planet which really never got done. This Phase 2 map has 9 planets to match the Crusade of Fire book with a total of 140 tiles with 35 strategic objectives.
Hope to see everyone at the Whiz for the beginning of Phase 2 at 5:30 pm tomorrow (July 1st). I'll head down in the morning to mount this map on the wall next to the tv.
Grand Warlord traits attached. Here's how they are going to work:
There are eleven Grand Warlord traits on the chart. Each player will fill in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 on the chart to choose their favorite 6 traits. Then they will roll a D6 & get the trait for the campaign. Please post final comments on Grand Warlord traits & campaign prize money by midnight tonight. I am going to Staples in the morning to print out final copies.
Campaign runs from Tuesday July 1st to August 5th with prizes distributed August 12th. 1500 points or more if your opponent agrees. NO list tailoring after you determine your opponent. Opponents determined by who controls the least amount of tiles each Tuesday at 5:30 SHARP. Post here or call Whiz store if you are running late. Players choose 5 tiles July 1st. Planets of Sovven & Savrap will be reserved for tiles to be chosen July 6th.
Hey guys it's Chuck, I'm not gonna a be able to make it in tomorrow or next Tuesday, I'm stuck at work. Would anyone be willing to proxy me when we pick territories? I would really appreciate it. Also I will be playing Necrons in this campaign, so down with the Imperium and such
Chuck- would you like us to proxy on the "Tuesday" planets or would you like to begin your fiefdom on the "Sunday" planets so you can choose your own tiles?
Im in - though I didnt play in Phase 1. If thats a deal breaker - I still plan on showing up tomorrow. Looks like fun. Im bringing my Legion of the Damned - counts as Dark Angels list. I have 1500, 1750, 1850 and 2000 point lists.

It doesn't matte if you played in the first leg. Nothing carries over so feel free to come out and sign up! We start picking tiles around 5:30 so hope to see you there.

Sorry to hijack here but I had to ask a few questions.
I just finally got my 'Crusade of Fire' book so I could follow along here. I noticed (I guess I shouldn't be surprised) that many of the rules for how to actually play/set-up the campaign are missing hah.
Do you guys use the old 'Planetary Empires' rules for scoring and placing Strategic assets?
There is no map of Strategic assets for the CoF campaign map planets in that book, that I have found anyway. Did you guys have the players involved in placing them, or just had them on the map prior to placing flags?
No please ask questions we are totally cool with that and don't consider it a hijack at all
We had the strategic objectives on the various planets before we placed flags. And yah the crusade of fire book is sadly lacking haha. So what we did was we came up with our own grand warlord traits(because some of the CoF ones are SUPER imba) and then Just kind of winged the rest as far as building the planets and placement of strategic objectives. We tried to spread them out evenly and fairly. Basically all the tweaks we've made have been with the goal of fairness for everyone.
And we're using the CoF rules for scoring the objectives in that whoever has the objective gets that bonus in game. Ie a bastion/skyshield/whatever.
Any other questions or if you felt I didn't explain well enough please feel free to ask.
Hey are we adding up our tiles for points each week like last campaign? Mike and I wanted to know.
No, in order to streamline this phase I changed the prizes to:
-most territories
-most planets with at least one tile claimed
-most entire planets conquered -most conquest points overall
-most conquest points on winning team
-most games played
-most points losing side
Players can win more than one category. Total Prize money split between these 7 categories.
These categories replaced the points each week for tiles, but still reward people for growing their empires.
I just got a game in against Nick, I wound up winning. Since I've already scored the latter half of my Grand Warlord trait already, so I got 10 points out of it(or 5 if I can't score my Grand Warlord trait a second time, or 15 if I get it all, I can never remember). NIck wound up with 3 points, and I swiped one of his locations. There should be filled out forms for that game at the store.
Mine looks right to me. I need to take Chris' spaceport on the map as we both put it up in the fight.
I did not have tokens and it was much too late to make any.
I'll grab some supplies and make tokens this weekend
I think I'm showing up this weekend for a game on sunday(waiting for confirmation) so I can place my token then, if not on Tuesday
I will be replacing my tokens with these on the board on tuesday as well as taking the Space port from Chris that we played for in the 2x2 game...
I also couldn't get to my sheet today because of an swing campaign but i nada game today testing out a new list against Mike and his tank guard. so I will need to fill that out tuesday as well

Mike, what army are you playing? Can you double check the spreadsheet below. I was confused about your game vs. Steve as to whether you earned 4 warlord points or if that was your total points for the game.
There are a few players who have not given me a copy of their receipt for $15 to join the campaign. That's cool as long as you know that only players who have paid can win prize money.
Here's our status as of Tuesday afternoon minus Sean's stuff (army faction unknown):
Anyone mind if people start playing before 5:30? I've noticed that a lot of folks roll in around 4 or 4:30 & we might be able to fit in two games a night or get home earlier so we can watch Housewives or whatever.
Played a great game agaubst Mike and his AstraMilitarum&Salamanders last night (7/29)
I got 9 conquest points (2 for playing and 7 for my grand warlord Trait: Cherish even the dead)
I played franks ultramarines tuesday. (Which look great, good job franky)

I'm playing Eric in the zone tonight if room. I can play any points you'd like. I'd love to do a big game soon so I can finally field my baneblade. But Sunday might work and I'll play whatever. I'll confirm tomorrow if Sunday works
Lost to Alejandro but I complete my grand warlord trait. I believe he got 5 conquest points and I got 9. My dad (bob) played Chris Bradley and and only scored 3 conquest points.

Send me a PM in the morning if you want to play, I'm cool with a big game, we can do a 1v1 Apoc if you want 3K with all the toys, Lords of War, Massive Fortifications, Apoc Formations, etc

I might be missing some results on the score sheet- I've managed to take like 10-12 territories, I'm not seeing enough wins in there.
I've also got some more results in, I played Bob's Tyranids on tuesday and again today. As a reminder, I'm Chris, representing Chaos.

I grabbed a couple territories on the big multicolored planet.
I got a surprise first-turn charge on Bob in the first game that shut him in him deployment zone. In the second we got dragged into a more protracted fight and he started pushing me back. If the objective cards hadn't been so dead-set on messing with him, Bob might've had me.
Hey Chris. Were the wins written on the paper score sheets or were they ones you needed to post online? We can get everything sorted tonight.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit it looks like you got a 5 point game week 3 Chris so well add that to your total + whatever other games are found. If you could post a list of your games and points through the campaign that would be a big help.
I won't be in tonight because I have family visiting this week, but use the photos as a record of games played. I have all the sheets that everyone has filled out also.
I'll do my best to take care of that Gil. They'll be cell phone pics but whatever. Also do you see any games that were written down for Chris Bradley that got missed on the sheets? I'd like to know where I/we all stand going into the final week.

Thanks everyone for a great campaign!! Winners were Mike B., Steve B., and Chris B… wait a minute?!
We'll start again in about a month. PM me your email address so we can use GoogleDocs this time around. Just to throw out some dates:
September 30th, October 7,14,21,28th November 4th with prizes given out November 11th.
November 11th is Veteran's Day; possible day off from work/ school? If people are interested, I would enjoy running a multi-player scenario on Veteran's day where we fight through 4 boards.
Board #1: Void War: only flyers & drop pods as Imperial Forces attempt to land on a space hulk. No terrain other than astroids.
Board #2 Outside the Space Hulk. Drop pods land here & disembark forces trying to breach hulk. Frank offered terrain pieces & I am modeling the actual board that Frank with place his stuff on top of. It features a giant landing bay door. Xenos players can deploy any troops/ models that can breathe in the Void on this board.
Board #3 Landing Bay Big open space 3'x4' that Imperial Players try to fight across to get to Board #4
Board #4 The Corridors leading to the command deck which is the objective for the whole shebang.
This one plus one more I'm making, plus all the tiles that Frank made.
Imperials: Bring as many flyers as you have plus around 1000 points for foot walkers. Land Raiders can't really drive around the ship. (Insert BA reference here) Xenos bring flyers plus around 1500 points each. I say around because it really doesn't matter, but we don't want it to be unwieldy.
Frank, post photos & let us know what worked well for the scenario you ran yesterday.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I finally pulled my head out of my butt & created a google form for Phase 3 of the campaign:
Automatically Appended Next Post: PM me with your email address & I'll share the spreadsheet with you. Post what changes you think I should make. I'll make changes next week sometime.
I think the biggest thing about ZM is that assault units are very powerfull, because of the tight confines and the fact that there is line-of-sight blocking everywhere units like Assualt Marines,Howling Banshee's, etc can get across the board without being shot apart. You don't need an assault transport, because the terrain itself provides that cover.
I forgot my copy of IA:12 so we didn't play with the terrain effects rules, But I've used those before and they add a nice level of tention to the game (is the hull going to get blown out this turn and make every shot rending?)
one of the important things when setting it up is to consider the flow of models and where the choke points will end up. The last thing you want is a big choke point get gummed up and effectivly takes entire units the whole game to manoeuvre around. Distance is another thing to think about, you can be 6 inches away from an objective... but it's on the other side of a wall so you need to move 30 inches to get to it.
in this case we had two routes that vehicles could take though the bunker (in ZM if you can't physically turn in that space, then you can't turn)
^ one of the vehicle corridors
^overview of the board, main vehicle corridor runs left to right (razorback parked in it), and the dreadnoughts are marching though the second vehicle corridor (starts in top left, and ends near the bikers in the middle right)
^ the forces converging on the choke point where both vehicle corridor's converge.
Forgeworld has a PDF of the rules:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/z/ZM6thUpdate.pdf it is slightly out of date, but not enough to really matter.
The only thing there are missing is the Catastrophic Damage Table for void battles (the PDF has the table for bunkers)
Brent at BOLS just posted an article and a comment jumped out at me:
"We spend so much time practicing the game instead of spending time playing it. I hope that distinction isn't lost on you. "
I definitely fell victim to this for the past 2 years or so, but this campaign has done an excellent job of getting me back to playing for the hell of it.
FYI That's Entertainment store in Fitchburg MA is starting a Crusade of Fire Campaign on Sept. 7th. I don't any more than that. I think their FB page will have more info.
Steve this is where the wording got confusing for the vulture. It states it has twin lo lied punisher cannon*s* not cannon but it doesn't list 2x. On the vendetta right above it, it shows 2x twin linked Lascannons and then twin linked lascannon for the third lascannon that it has.
So that's where e got confused about how many punisher cannons it has because it shows plural on the description
Presently there are only two people who have posted any of their results to the googledocs spreadsheet- any one else want to win prize $$$$?? Fill out & submit results!
Next Tuesday Nov 11th we will distribute prizes for the campaign phase 3 at 5pm. Beginning at 11am I will be running a fun all day game for those interested (or have the day off from school). Bring as many points as you have time to play representing an attacker or defender. Some fluffy criteria applies:
Attacker must have all units deployed in flyers, drop pods or be able to deep strike.
Defender must have no tanks.
Mission will cover a 14'x4' table length where the attackers attempt to board a battle cruiser.
Attackers will need to (1) fight through space to reach the ship:
(2) land on the exterior & battle their way through massive blast doors
(3) fight their way through the landing bay
(4) battle through the confines of the space hulk to reach the command center.
I plan on hanging out all day so whenever you come in & want to join in, come on by!
So I'm pretty sure I've been posting. My results to the wrong Google doc if you only have 2 people(unless I'm one of the two)
But as far as the game goes, I won't make it till normal time, approx 5pm, but I'll be in to play. I have two lists to bring but have a question. Are FW armies allowed? I have my Elysian list I would like to run.
If not, are sentinels considered "tanks" for defenders?
I want to bring one of each list so I can jump on either side if one needs it
Sounds good. This is gonna be a weird kinda game where people join in whenever they want & quit whenever they want. I imagine there might even be time when no one is playing, but I want to try it out & give everyone a chance to join in without feeling rushed. FW armies are cool. Sentinels are cool. We're try it our this time so everyone has idea of what it looks like for when we make it pivotal in a future campaign phase. Tomorrow is just the sandbox.
Results as of Monday night are attached in an Excel spreadsheet.
Thanks to everyone for a great Veteran's Day game filled with dice, movement phases with warp charge pools, assault phases with cover saves, and deep striking during consolidation. Geez there were a dozen rules-lawyers rolling over in their graves yesterday!
For any who did not attend, the first board required people to fly over to the battle cruiser despite air defense and multiple dakkajets:
When invaders reach the battle cruiser, they try to get through the half open blast doors into a landing bay. Some armies just drop pod onto the exterior of the ship & let their maglocks do the walking:
The landing bay looks a lot like a bit excuse to add terrain in a big open space:
This is where the madness got… mad.
yes, that is what you think it is.
The Imperials then fought tooth & nail to get into the bowels of the ship in order to deliver a a bomb load to the command center, held by Ghaz:
Of course, the assassins made an appearance:
And of course, Ghaz had no intentions to give up his command center with all its shiny dingerooz and blinking roo-bops:
Automatically Appended Next Post: Video, which might be being edited by youtube to correct shakiness:
It figures this was the one night I brought imperial Knights so I couldn't join in. But Gil I gotta say you've been amazing during these last 5-6 months or so of campaigns, thanks again for all the hard work and effort you put in. Looking forward to the 30k campaign in January.
Mac,
I saw your post on facebook talking about a new summer campaign, I'm definitely interested in this. Also I was in the store yesterday and Lynn mentioned someone asked her about an escalation league.
I'm hoping to come down tonight. Then I'll be busy for a few weeks, but hope to come in the last Tuesday in June and maybe begin the campaign the first Tuesday in July? Everyone please post their opinion of the following:
Start date?
# of weeks? 6?
Use the same Warlord traits?
Ideas for new Warlord traits?
Use the map again?
Improvements to last campaign?
Escalation? 1250 for 2 weeks, 1500 for 2 weeks, and 1750 for two weeks? Always option to go higher if opponent is prepared?
Painting score? Bonus score for posting fluff, game photos & batreps?
I think an escalation campaign would be good.
it's a bit self serving as I have a bunch of Adeptus Mechanicus to paint, and an escalation league this would be the perfect opportunity/excuse.
this is a bit of a brain dump, sorry it's not formatted well.
Maybe have a little narrative, nothing huge just a "why is everyone fighting for these planets? Maybe something by faction.? give a special mission objective to each player based on their army, ie if someone is playing a dark angles player, let them nominate an enemy unit to be a target to kill because they have information about the fallen. Mechanicus is after an STC, etc. Just something to add flavor.
of course that meas people will need to let you know in advance what faction they are playing,.
For non-game ways to earn points; something for army theme, painting new full units, battle reports, etc?
Patrick would like to run the campaign & will post ideas here. That sounds good to me b/c then I can crush the will of my enemies beneath the heels of my hoofs (daemonkin) without regret!!
Eric has a really cool cards idea that I think could mesh well with Patrick's ideas. It is similar to the cards I made for Templecon (see attachment). We could make up a set for each player.
One idea that just came to me is that each week, there could be a special edition card for whoever wins that week. Players who win could replace one card in their deck with a special edition card. That would refine their deck and reward them for winning, but not necessarily be too strong of an advantage. The idea is from the game Dominion for those who have played that. If you haven't, then you should!!
I would love it if Patrick ran this round of the campaign so I could focus on list building and playing games.
So who is Patric and when are we going to hear from him about this campaign?
I would like to hear what we are doing or at least have ideas tossed around...
Patrick posted in the FB Whiz mini players page that his computer stopped working so I'm gonna go out on a limb & bet this isn't the best time for him to be running a campaign. Hopefully he gets it fixed. Until then, here is what we are going to do:
Everyone make up cool tokens for the map that will work with magnets. I will bring the usual paper & magnets if you don't have any creative ideas.
I took those & made a Word document that the players could print out at home (or go to Staples if you don't have a color printer.) See attachment.
I made up one red card which would be the reward for anyone who wins a game during the first week of the campaign; June 30th thru July 7th. If anyone is interested in coming up with "Winner cards" for weeks 2-6, post them in this thread.
Week #1 June 30th thru 7th
Week #2 July 7th thru 14th
Week #3 July 14th thru 21st
Week #4 July 21st thru 28th
Week #5 July 28th thru August 4th
Week #6 August 4th thru 11th
Prizes awarded Tuesday August 11th
Entry fee this time around: $25 for each store, pay where you play.
I really love this fresh idea & I really really love how this thread has become the depository of great campaign ideas. Thanks everybody!! See you June 23rd for the Info & registration night.
Whiz players please post a response to this message so I know who has read this.
I know what you mean, but at this point I have linked this thread so many times to so many players, I would rather keep it all in one place.
I will be having an info night at the Whiz on June 23rd to explain the campaign for the summer. We'll start playing games on the 30th. I'll have another info night at That's Entertainment in Fitchburg that week, but I'm waiting to see when those guys want to schedule it.
If you play at the Whiz, you'll pay there. If you play at That's E, you'll pay there. You'll win prizes where you paid. It's really two campaigns using the same rules and happening at the same time.
I'm waiting to hear from the That's E crew, but that store closes at 7pm so Sundays will probably be the "day". There will be interruptions for MTG release events & drafts.
Since I couldn't make it to the store last week for the information session I have a few questions.
- What points level?
- Forgeworld Units?
- Forgeworld Army Lists?
Points for games at the Whiz will be about 1500-2000, but you can alter that with your opponent (the usual Whiz operating procedure.) Points for games at That's Entertainment will be 1000-1500 because that store has more rookie players and closes at 7pm on weekdays. That's E has tried to make Sundays their 40k day, but they have so many other events (MTG & comic book stuff) that it is hard to schedule more than 3 or 4 tables at a time.
FW is cool with me, but I haven't really played much FW lately so other players should chime in with their 2 cents. So I think Elysian is ok, but let's confirm during info night.
Info night games should be around 1500-1750 points because we'll probably use up time talking before games begin.
For those who don't know what Elysians are... it's basically drop pods but with fliers... half deepstrike turn 1 and the rest come on in reserves deepstriking.the entire army has either deepstrike, infiltrate or scout...
no worse than drop pods or deathwing as I'm mostly BS3 guardsmen

Except of course drop-pods are immobile deployment and flyers aren't
Can anyone confirm/disconfirm that the cards attachment file can be opened? I created it using Microsoft's Word Mac 2011, but someone said the file was corrupted when they tried to open it.
The red card in the file will be earned by anyone who wins a game during the first week of the campaign. I will be posting new cards each week here.
So far I have $25 receipts from Frank, Sam, Pedro, Joe & Chris Bradley.
We discussed how to split up the prize money. Please post ideas & opinions here & I will post official decision by next Tuesday. Initial thoughts are 3 prizes, all the same amount, no one can win more than one. A) Player with most tiles controlled on a single planet. B) Player with most entire planets controlled. C) Player with most footholds established on planets. If any category is tied, then those players split the prize money for that category. For example, if we have $150 raised in prizes, and two players are tied for C, then they each get $25 while the winners for A & B each get $50.
each player draws 3 cards then picks 2 cards which are used in any order during their deployment phase to place objectives.
when placing objective markers you must if able place them such that objectives, Stronghold objectives, and objective areas are 12” away from other objective markers. if this is not possible place them such that they are as far from the nearest marker as possible.
When placing kill point markers each unit must have one kill point marker before it may have a second placed on it. if a card requires you to place a marker on a unit which already has a kill point marker you must instead place it on any other unit. once all units have one kill point marker follow the card as normal.
Cards that refer to “no man's land” mean any area that is outside of both players deployment zones
instead of the slay the warlord secondary objective the warlord in any army has a kill point marker placed on him before either player has deployed.
Objective types:
X point objective - the player that controls it at the end of the game receives X victory points. follows all standard rules for objectives in BRB.
X point objective area - the player that controls it at the end of the game receives X victory points. follows all standard rules for objectives in BRB except that units can claim it if they are within 6” rather than 3”.
Stronghold objective - stronghold objective are always placed in a players deployment zone. the player that controls it at the end of the game receives 2 victory points if it is in their deployment zone and 4 victory points if it is not. follows all standard rules for objectives in BRB.
kill point marker - when the last model in a unit is destroyed any kill point markers it had go to the opposing player (in multiplayer games to the last opponent to do damage to the unit). at the end of the game each kill point marker is worth one victory point
Priority target marker - function exactly like kill point markers except that at the end of the game any unit still on the table with a priority target marker grants one victory point to the owning player.
Sean: Renegades and Heretics 5VP's (4 objective points, Line Breaker)
Frank: Craftworld Eldar (win) 10VP's (7 Objective points, Line Breaker, First Blood, Slay the Warlord)
Frank, Don't bother with the points this campaign phase. We're keeping it simple; no bookkeeping this time around.
3 prizes, all the same amount, no one can win more than one.
A) Player with most tiles controlled on a single planet.
B) Player with most entire planets controlled.
C) Player with most footholds established on planets.
If any category is tied, then tie will be broken by how many medals players have earned. If its still tied, then they split that category's $$.
Steve & Pedro
Sam vs. Isaiah
Frank vs. Sean
me getting a clinic on Daemonkin
Alejandro vs. Eric
Joe, Nick & Chuck
Carlos & Chris
So far I have $25 receipts from Frank, Sam, Pedro, Joe, Chris Bradley, Eric, Sean & Stephen.
I created cards for winners of games during weeks 1-5. I still need to create a card for week 6 and for anyone who plays a game in a store they usually don't play; That's E for Whiz guys & Whiz for the That's E guys. Please look over the cards & tell me if you think they are too overpowered.
Maybe I'll make up a medal for any player who uses the same list for three weeks in a row. That player is required to submit that list to me Chris or Frank or you and every week someone checks to ensure that is the list they are using. I have family plans this week so won't be in Tuesday night, but spread the word. What do you think would be an appropriate medal benefit?
Game I played at That's Entertainment in Fitchburg:
Whiz store Week 5's games:
One more week of games & prizes distributed on Tuesday August 11th.
3 prizes, all the same amount, no one can win more than one.
A) Player with most tiles controlled on a single planet.
B) Player with most entire planets controlled.
C) Player with most footholds established on planets.
…and I forgot to take photos of the map last night so I don't know who is in the lead for those categories.
not campaign related, but Whiz store 40k related:

Work has been crazy lately, but things are just starting to lighten up enough for me to begin thinking about this summer's Whiz campaign for 40k or 30k. What would we like to try this summer?
Week #1 Tuesday April 26 til the next Tuesday
Week #2-6 Tuesday May 3,10, 17, 24, Last week May 31 Prizes distributed June 7th
We'll use the map as a scoreboard so make magnetic tokens as usual.
Summer 2016 Whiz store & That's E store campaigns:
Campaign scoreboard is the wall map so make 10+ small magnetic markers for yourself. You will claim five terrain spaces on Tuesday April 26th at 5:30pm… unless we have a ton of players & need to lessen that number. Three campaign winners: Most territories, most complete planets & most beachheads.
Games are 1000 or whatever points. Each player is allowed only one psyker, but that model counts as 0 points towards their army list points. The first game they play, the psyker gets to use no psychic powers.
Game 1 of week 1 has one objective. The player who controls this objective at the end of the game rolls a D6. A D6 result of 1,2,or 3 earns that player one part of an Imperial Knight. A D6 result of 4,5, or 6 earns that player one Warp Charge.
Game 2 of week 2 has two objectives. The player who controls an objective at the end of the game rolls a D6. A D6 result of 1,2,or 3 earns that player one part of an Imperial Knight. A D6 result of 4,5, or 6 earns that player one Warp Charge.
Game 3 of week 3 has three objectives. The player who controls this objective at the end of the game rolls a D6. A D6 result of 1,2,or 3 earns that player one part of an Imperial Knight. A D6 result of 4,5, or 6 earns that player one Warp Charge.
Guess what happens week 4? Yeah, you get it.
When a player has successfully collected all five parts of an Imperial Knight, then they may play a knight as part of their army list for free. (That's why it is worth working towards.) But the player must have two legs, one torso, and two weapons preferably the weapons they have actually collected cards for, but I'll leave that up to players.
When a player has successfully collected one or two or three warp charges, then their psyker may begin using powers that correspond to that level of power. But if a player randomly rolls for psychic powers at the start of a game and rolls a power they don't have enough warp charges, then tough (they got a free psyker so buck up campers).
If a player have enough for more than one psyker, then they may take more than one free psyker in their army list. But they need to have enough charges to actually power up the psyker.
Here's what cards look like: (I already made a bunch so players just need to tell me what they have won. And don't lose them!)
But what if around week 3, a player has two warp charges and four legs to an imperial knight? What can you do with four legs?
OH GOD, DO NOT GOOGLE "FOUR LEGS" FOR AN IMAGE TO INSERT HERE. MY EYES!!?!
So a player has parts he doesn't really want or need. Time for a Trade. Two or three players may play a two or three player game. Each player's goal is to move their warlord into base to base contact in order to trade Warp Charges for Imperial Knight part or whatever, but if one player decides to betray the other and kill the other player's warlord, then the items are deployed on the table at the point where the warlords were just kissing. As a two player game, this is pretty boring, but consider (and discuss) the possibilities for a three player game:
Please discuss and build on. Our next campaign will begin in July 2016.
