ooooookay... so I see the white/black/yellow primer thing has got everyone excited haha. I'll let you know what I choose to do when I start painting my IP veteran...
Oh my God... I actually have an update! I finally seem to have some painting time My Imperial Fist is giving me nightmares though... so he's on the back burner atm... However, after months of waiting, my apothecary is nearly done and I'll have some pictures of him up tomorrow I hope (if anyone is still following this! haha )
I'm also getting too ahead of myself 'cuz I want to buy Grey Knights asap lol
Sageheart wrote:great work here, really can see your improvement from the first post since
Hello! Thank you and welcome
GiraffeX wrote:Welcome back bubble, looking forward to seeing the apothecary.
Hehe thank you! I hate painting white though :(
Rogue Wolves wrote:Wait wait wait, if your obsessed with dorn and the fists now, are you going to retire smurfette and go with something more appropriate?
But I still love ultras! And I'm loving Grey Knights too so if I was gonna change it I'd have to have them in there too... Besides, what good nicknames have the word 'fist' in them! lol xxx
b
Ok so I lied, the Apothecary isn't quite ready :( But this guy is and he's happy to be here lol
Now I know some of you are gonna think I'm a terrible human being for not hand painting the banner... but I just didn't feel confident enough about it :( However one of my vets that are now in progress has a banner so maybe I'll have a go at that one... Also the gold on the bottom of the banner looks shittier in the photo than it does in real life! xxx
I take a quick peek at dakka during art class to se a rather pretty marine, I thInk he looks cool! I love the head choice and while i like the banner, hand painted would have been better
I like the banner. it's really simple but it's something. one thing i think you could do with it is add some sort of text to it? like "ultra" or something like that.
it is a good looking smurf... i like the blue ... it is really well done... my only suggestion would be to give the aquilla... the decal you used a golden coat... would suit the blue posers way better^^ just a black aquilla would be too plain
Rogue Wolves wrote:I take a quick peek at dakka during art class to se a rather pretty marine, I thInk he looks cool! I love the head choice and while i like the banner, hand painted would have been better
haha thank you Now, you say it would look better... but I would have wanted to paint the actual 2nd company banner and I wouldn't have been able to... So it would have looked like a baboon's bum I'm gonna practice for my next banner though I PROMIIISEEE
DiDDe wrote:I like the banner. it's really simple but it's something. one thing i think you could do with it is add some sort of text to it? like "ultra" or something like that.
Thank you, i like the simplicity too And yes, that little space at the bottom is bugging me so that may be the way to go

Cheers for your comments as ever Vik I may well do that xxx
I disagree Vik I like the black if you make it gold it will clash with the yellow IMHO, for a transfer it does not stand out like one
The bolt pistol looks cool some nice highlighting on there, the only small gripe I have is the banner pole needs some highlight on it to lift the wood look
Hi, i have to say im not a fan of Ultra's but lets face it these are really nicely done even i like the standard bearer and it takes a lot for me to look at blue things...

Why thank you, yes meant to do something to the pole but apparently I just didn't... haha oh dear xxx

Hello there And wow, that is great if I've got you looking at ultras! Thanks for stopping by xxx
actaully i have to scrub my fingers now... LDD... you´re right...
*feverously scrubbing fingers....* "no sweety, i still need more of that disinfectant... the odd feeling just won´t quit... even after the steel brush scrubbing...darn... why does it still bleed that hard? after all one would expect bleeding to cease once you reached the bones..."
I like the banner bearer. You managed a really smooth blue on all your Ultramarines. I like the heads too. What are they?
The only thing I'm not so keen on is the banner. It looks a bit plain. Using transfers was a good idea, but there is something just not right about it. It might have benefitted from the interior of the banner being a different colour.

Sorry about the tumbleweed over the past few days, was in London yesterday and have work today *sigh* back soooon I'll post some WIP pics of my veteran. Expect massive claws! xxx

Ok soooo... no painting. But, I've changed the head on my Veteran leader. He originally had an ugly bald thing going on so I chopped that off and stuck one of my Anvil Industries helmets on... but then I noticed that I'm an idiot, and that he has a helmet strapped to his belt at the back... He's obviously not gonna need two helms so now he has a new head
Also, I ended up buying this guy from the Dark Vengeance set as he was being sold on his own... Gonna turn him into an Ultra I think xxx
Ok so this may be good, this may be bad depending on your view of The Hobbit... but as soon as they get here in the post I will begin painting the Dwarves! Got them through ebay without having to buy the ridiculous Escape from Goblin Town set, hooray!
And yes... painting my ultras... will get right on that

Sorry about the delay, had a bit on a situation with the ebay seller- ended up waiting for my Dwarves to arrive 2 weeks after they were supposed to be sent :( but they have arrived, finally! And aren't they lovely
I've started on the base blue for my Rhino and done a little work on one of my veterans and the Librarian from the DV box.
The Dwarves are gonna take up all my time now I can tell lol xxx
Yep just got the dwarves Can't afford the Goblin Town boxset and I wouldn't want all those goblins anyway as I just wanna paint these guys for fun not to play with xxx
Btw did anyone see in this month's White Dwarf- the WIP Garvi Loken and Abaddon figures from forge world? :O Cannot WAIT to get my hands on them!!! xxx
OOoo looking foward to seeing you paint them hairy men bubbs, wish I could have gotten just them (as I bought the box for them) but I love LotR too much to not buy the whole thing.. And I had just seen those FW models, they look fantastic not sure which one I want more though... its a good thing I live in the US the hassle of getting FW is the only thing stopping me from buying everything
Now I reckon most of you won't like the cape... but J-Paint and I think it looks pretty cool? Thoughts please? Obviously he's not finished yet but I've made a lot of progress today.
Oh and I've started on Balin... they dwarf figures are so tiny I'm trying to be really careful!!!
I actually love the cape! you should do all your cloth like that, only problem is.... then it makes me think the armor is too clean so scratch that blue paint up and you've got one fine looking marine!
compared to the seal the cape is rather dirty looking... if you change the whole marine look to match the cape... then you have a consistent look...if you ask me... for itself it looks quite nice i think... and personaly... no need to be that modest right up front...
Rogue Wolves wrote:I actually love the cape! you should do all your cloth like that, only problem is.... then it makes me think the armor is too clean so scratch that blue paint up and you've got one fine looking marine!
oooh ok! I shall attempt to chip some of it... I'll probably fail but you never know!

The cape looks pretty cool as for it looking to old and dirty against the armour aint no issue, I look at it being like a relic hence the age and dirt as for his armour that would be updated and maintained so would look better in condition.
I agree with LDD, that cape is looking nice and weathered from being passed down over the centuries.Heck, maybe make some gouges in the armor and silver 'em?
Rogue Wolves wrote:I actually love the cape! you should do all your cloth like that, only problem is.... then it makes me think the armor is too clean so scratch that blue paint up and you've got one fine looking marine!
^ pretty much this ^. It looks really nice, but doesn't quite fit with the shiny, clean armour
I like the smurphtastic sky blue nail polish.
You'll have to darken it a bit to match the Ultras though... Maybe some smoke stains and silvery chipping? Inverted omega sign on each nail?
lone dirty dog wrote:The cape looks pretty cool as for it looking to old and dirty against the armour aint no issue, I look at it being like a relic hence the age and dirt as for his armour that would be updated and maintained so would look better in condition.
Keep up the good work
Thank yoooou! And thank you all for your comments on the armour (Shasolenzabi, shrike...) but I'm gonna side with LDD on this one A cape obviously being cloth (or something similar) is gonna get dirty and stay dirty, whereas armour is gonna be touched up and repaired prior to battle... So I'm going with the ancient special cape idea! Is this the lazy way out? Maybe but I do agree that chipped armour would be cool and I'm thinking I might do that for some of my vets?
Archonate wrote:I like the smurphtastic sky blue nail polish.

Lol I swear this isn't the first time my nails have been discussed on here... I did paint ULTRA onto them once
And the librarian is finished! The final wash is still a bit wet in some parts as you might be able to see... ooops! Ignore that lol xxx
oh....f..k! that´s what i thought at first... the cloth looks rad!
if i could add just one tiny bit... the powerpack could do with some more love... or have you planned on weathering that guy some more? some scratches and stuff?
Turned out looking pretty good IMHO even better from the front view and the sword looks great as well, the pack does need a little something just to lift it though just to match with the rest.
The first member of the company is finished! I started with Balin as he's one of the more (relatively) simple models to paint. Thoughts please? First time using static grass...
Oh and sorry, couldn't resist the photo opp with the librarian... the pose was already there lol xxx
That Libby is looking great, I love the old worn relic of a cloak. Balin is also top notch and the photo op is brilliant! It not only gives a sense of scale on those tiny Hobbit minis but its funny too
@Vik etc I will try to do something to the backpack to give it a little something
@biohazard thank you, yeah they're so small- I didn't really think about it until I stuck them next to my space marines!
@LDD :O
I DID! But you forget I have 24/7 access to the master painter that is J-paint haha. Gave me many many pointers on how to do the face The rest of it was really very simple, hence why I chose to do him first
and the grass was his idea I don't want to paint any more dwarves they're bloody fiddly!! lol I'm dreading painting Kili especially, that one has so many tiny details xxx
I'm glad you like the rosiness around the nose- that was a J-Paint tip... I actually didn't want to do it at first cuz I thought it would make Balin look like he had a sunburnt nose haha more fool me, I have much to learn!!!
The rosiness was a tiny bit of red gore mixed in with the flesh tone xxx
Amazing job on the skin Bubble, I think its the best I've seen from you, very realistic job cant wait to see you paint the tattoos on Dwalin... cause you have to....
I dont think its too hard, I did the tatts and they didnt come out too bad, buuuut seeing as your painting gets better and better and better with each update I expect the tattoos to be 100% film accurate
I'm gonna try to get as much painting done as I can over next few days... I'll be busy at the weekend as I'll be performing the role of 'Tour Guide Barbie' at my volunteering job lol (That should totally be my official title ).
Hopefully will have Bombur finished soon though! His eyes are gonna be impossible I fear- even the one GW painted hasn't really got any!!! xxx
it's just amazing how much your painting skills has improved since your first mini! great job!
if i am to give any constructive critisism it is that you could make the ultra symbol on his chest more round and less like a U.
but then i must add that it looks great just as it is!
i really need to get my ass to the movies and see Hobbit! everyone is talking about it and right now it feels like i'm the only one who hasn't seen it i'm abit ashamed for it too..

Yes I have to agree... I looked at my Sanguinary Guard the other day and couldn't believe how different they are in quality to what I'm painting now... But I've still got a lot to learn!
And YES you have to see the Hobbit it's the best thing EVERRRR I'm so totally obsessed with it haha xxx
Yeah, the book is awesome so the movie's got to be EPIC! it's just that i have 200km to the nearest movietheater..
and have you thouht about giving your Sanguinary Guard another paintjob? with your current skills they will look epic. or atleast paint one to see the difference
Your Balin rocks Bubble! I think I got my primer coat too thick on mine, I couldn't get his facial definitions very clear, you got his most prominent nose perfect!
Now if you can paint his funky patterns..you'll be a paint Goddess
Well thank you kind sir! Oh lord... but but but Dave! You know how small the models are haha I did want to do the patterns... maybe I'll try but I reckon I'll just mess it up
Just got back from London and have much uni work to do... however I'll hopefully get my paint on tomorrow!
We get the DVD weeks after you lucky Americans though! How will I cope haha
MY GOD Bombur's eyes- they're just pits!!! I'm trying to paint the face but it's so detail-less! I don't blame them though, the thing is tiny. Don't think his face is gonna come out as well as Balin's but oh well :S xxxx

IIRC, I get it before you lot
but yes, I sympathise completely, they're all so tiny D:
Ok here is Bombur! Sorry it took so long... His face was more difficult than Balin's but he's got that rosy glow that I think a Dwarf of his stature should have lol xxx

yeah... "stature"... anyways, great work- really difficult for people who've not seen the models in person to grasp how ridicu-small they really are
Lol Shrike, dakka confused me cuz it says you're in the UK but we don't get it here till April! I'm a bear of very little brain And thank you! Yeah they're ridiculous lol Bilbo must be so tiny, I'm glad I don't have him

I'm not concerned with who you paint next but hot damn these models you are doing are awesome! :-) very very nicely done Bubble! as others stated you've nailed one of the harder aspects of painting which is the skin, the rosy glow is a great tip for anyone painting Hobbits, Dwarves or Space Wolves, I used it on some Wulfen heads I painted a while ago and it gives them some character! I really am going to look forward to your next model as your level of improvement is phenomenal and if you keep getting better........ well,.....i'll quit painting!
Heheh no Nerd, your painting is excellent, don't be silly now haha.
I'm going to paint Gloin next, he's got one of the best poses out of all of the models I think! I don't know how quickly I'll get him done as I have lots of work to be doing sighhhh!
Roll on summer! xxx
Roll on winter! it's too hard to sleep through the day when it's been 32-35 degrees down here :-( and I live in what people percieve as a cold state! HA!
after seeing yours and Dave's Hobbit models I am sorely tempted to try painting some just for fun! the fiddly size seems like an excellent challenge for anyone with a paintbrush!
Ahh but @Nerd, the summer means that I don't have uni so I can paint more! I'll be starting my Masters course in September so painting will probably be non existent for a while
Yes you should they are fun despite the difficulty of the size!
I just ordered this guy! I wasn't going to because of the price but I really do love it... I saw finished versions on dakka and tracked him down...
He's totally gonna be Fulgrim! I have a love/hate relationship with Fulgrim... he's a total prat but I think this model catches his personality and everything so perfectly I had to get it. xxx
Man, that mini is awesome looking, and that armor done in purples and gold filigree will look perfect for pre mutation/daemonhood Fulgrim. I have seen art that has him 4 armed and snake bodied

Bombur looks great Bubble. you really make the little guys look fantastic! And i'm fully confident that you will make that fulgrim dude justice aswell.
Hey vik! why don't you make your kid a whole army of badass angry marines!
LOL... well... i DID say he diodn´t want no super armored guys... but he loves blue... so atm he thinks he either gets these blue armoroed guys or something else... atm i am giving my best to get him to want some catachans

Thank youuuuuuu!
Fulgrim actually arrived today! But not at my uni address as I had him sent to family home, as I'll be there for a bit in the easter break. So I shall see him in all his glory in a week's time!
Okay, so I found your thread today and went through it. Here's the brief rundown from the beginning.
Elves - While I've never read the Game of Thrones novels, your elves are colorful and well done. I really like them.
Sanguinary Guard - While I'm not much of a Blood Angels fan (being more of a Black Templar myself, these are quite nicely done. Making gold armor come away looking, well, like gold.
Space Marine Bike - Your bike was very good, but like all marines, it seems to lack color. Its hard to get a marine army to look really good. Just such a flat color palette to work with. This is why I believe battle damage and paint scuffing is so popular in GW books.
Female Marines - You mentioned female space marines and someone linked to another forum. Those marines are here. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/345483.page They were being sold by meow meow minis, but they've recently closed. So I dunno where you can get something similar now.
Power Weapon Lightning - You power weapon lightning is very good, but seems to rigid. Lightning is more like a squiggle than a zig zag, if that makes any sense. I can show you a picture of something similar I did on my dark eldar if you'd like.
Sicarius - I really like your Sicarius, I think he is excellently painted. Though I wish I could see more of the face, do you have any close-ups?
Company Champion - Simple conversions are usually the best in my book. A simple head swap can do wonders to change a model
Champion's Sword - Your champion's lightning on his sword is better, but still looks to rigid and straight. But those are my own tastes <.<
Scripture Marine - The marine you painted with the scripture on the shoulder pad is very good. My Black Templars army has zero transfers (never could get the hang of them :( ) so I really like this and may in fact steal it and make use of it for mine.
Yellow Terminator - You are right, the back and shoulder pad yellow paint job appears the best. The yellow on his rear appears too pale and the yellow on his legs looks too dirty.
Librarian - I REALLY like the paintjob on this librarian. Can't even tell that it used to be a Dark Angel
Balin and Bombur - While I haven't seen the Hobbit yet, these look very good.
All in all, keep up the good work. I'll be subscribing so I can see more.
In my experience bubble, 'thinking of' making a certain model or force usually means 'I'm going to do it even though I have not enough funds and 1000 other projects on the go but I had this wicked awesome idea and i want to do it SO BAD'

Magnus didn't know what he was meddling with... he never meant to be a traitor Awww it breaks my heart (you can tell I've been reading 'A Thousand Sons') lol :(
And I'll be taking influence from your thread Giraffe!
I was always gonna want to make Thousand Sons in the end... didn't stand a chance seeing how into Egyptology I am... and blue... and gold... *sigh* lol xxx
Hahah yes beer money is needed! But I've got a lot of shifts at work next month so I'm hoping I'll have enough disposable income
Oooooh... I don't know... I don't think I'm good enough!!
So that's the ultras I've started to finish, dwarves to finish, Fulgrim to start, Imperial Fists to start, Grey Knights to buy, Thousand Sons bits to buy... hmmm you know, I don't think I have enough projects on the go lol xxx

A lot of shifts lots of beer money I noticed no remark to your school work suffering though
After seeing your last paint jobs I think you should at least try it, you seem to be improving at a fast rate and the last examples were most impressive
You can never have to many models just ask my misses projects are there to be started
haha but DiDDe, that would be sensible I'm atleast gonna start Fulgrim before I get my Thousand Sons He's a bitch to base, doesn't want to stand up so might have to pin him.
Just a teeny tiny update... Fulgrim has been based as you can see Can't really see from the photo (my bad) but there's a few bits of wreckage strewn around, and two gargoyle- type heads half buried on the ground... trying to be in keeping with the sculpture theme! Going for a red cloak to go with the purple and gold armour xxx
SO, I put down the base red on Fulgrim's cloak as you can see below... (bare in mind this was just the very first base layer)
... and then I was reading back over Graham McNeill's 'Fulgrim' for inspiration and he described him wearing an Emerald cloak, and I found that very exciting indeed and thought I'd give it a try! Most Fulgrim models I've seen have had the red cloak so I thought I'd maybe try to make mine stand out a little more? Picture of the green soon but any thoughts on this idea? xxx
I went Green!!! Now, the first photo is a bit off... the green isn't that dark... hence the other photos, just to give you a better idea of the colour Did some layering, what do you think? xxx
So far so good just one thing I would point out is maybe give a thin highlight on the sharp crease edges, not all the way along just on the bottom or top edges to lift it.
Otherwise it is working nicely with the purple much better than the red
I like the green and purple. One of my favorite color combinations is a warm purple and lime green. I think it'll come out ace and looking back over your plog, it would seem you're quite the natural talent Cheers
Bebop
Hehehe thank you I've started marking out the details on his armour in yellow in prep for the gold
I think I'll do him pre-heresy as I think it suits the model better somehow...
Lovely J-Paint just ordered me the Thousand Sons Aspiring Sorcerer (think that's his name) but I'll def do him blue
NOOOO they are not haha, my love for the Ultras is def rekindled at the mo- reading Graham McNeill's Ultramarines omnibus and it's brilliantly written!!! xxx
As per usual I have been somewhat invisible of late, lurking somewhere in the depths of dakka... It's that time of year again- exams, birthday, sorting out accommodation for next year etc etc... and I'm graduating this month too! But I will be around more from now on I promise!
Fulgrim is coming (slowly) along, and is soon to be joined by another Fulgrim- the official Horus Heresy one! Ok, I probably don't need two but a girl can never have too many primarchs I say!
Picture is up mainly just to show you the sculpture that Fulgi is so lovingly resting his saintly foot upon. Hope you like it I'm really chuffed with how it's come out
I've also done a bit more on the gold trims but ignore that for now! xxx
He's FINISHED! HOOORAYYY! And he's real purdy, too.
Hope you like it, I quite like the base myself. Think I could add some moss effect to it or something similar? Was going a ruined, foresty type place... Photos don't really show it but one of the bits of rubbish on the ground (between his legs almost) is a dragon head from some chaos space marine vehicle which I stole from J-Paint... painted it to look like another (fallen) statue, to go with the one he's resting on.
Looks great Bubble! but right now you don't really get the feel that it's in a forrest.. some moss and a bush maybe? but it does look fantastic the way it is right now! great work
Ok maybe not so much a forest but... kinda like when Frodo wanders off in the Fellowship of the Ring before Boromir looses it and then the Uruk-hai find them- and there's toppled statues etc and a clearing where Aragorn stands on some steps and fights them? Ok that's in a forest but...
This kind of thing! (Why didn't I just link the photo in the first place rather than ramble )
It just made me think of that but that may just be me...
But I agree that moss will probably help a lot! I was planning to do it so I will xxx
bubble wrote: (Why didn't I just link the photo in the first place rather than ramble )
well, where's the fun in that?
anyway, some foliage of some sort would do it imo. you could make some roots to maybe?
and btwwth are they doing to the lower left on the bottom pic?! doesn't look like they care about the fight at all.
Thats just some good old Ork loving
Bubble I have to say I don't think this is your best work I don't want to be an arse but the purple armour looks a little flat to me.
I think you could really bring out the mini by adding some more shading on the armour, the gold embellishments looks great and the face looks well done.
I just think the purple looks a bit mat and flat I am afraid, I think the base is nicely done as well although a little moss might bring the theme more to light.
Sorry but I have to be honest and after those dwarfs I know you have the skill to do more.
and btwwth are they doing to the lower left on the bottom pic?! doesn't look like they care about the fight at all.
LOL
And awwww! LDD you cut me deep!!! haha, thanks for the comment anyway- I did do the shading in the same way I do my Ultras, but it just didn't come out the same way I agree :( xxx

oh... that is indeed a giant leap from the last update bubble... very good looking... i chime in with the rest and say a bit of plant life would look good...and... i think the purple still needs a bit of a wash...
thats one cool Fulgrim, I was never a fan of him to be honest.. but I think you may change my mind I especialy love the coloring of the gold you did.. how did you go about doing it?
Glad you like him more now Vik The sculpt of the model doesn't seem to be as open to shading as the GW ones are... it's a bit flat on the armor itself :S
And RW, I did the gold the same way I always do- yellow base (think it was Averland Sunset this time), then Shining Gold and heaps of black wash xxx
I. Forge World Fulgrim! He's beautiful and I'm, terrified of painting him badly- I don't want to be the one to despoil his perfection!
II. Thousand Sons Sorcerer! He's going to be a lovely shade of blue
III. And this is the one I'm most excited about... Pasanius! For those of you who don't know he's a character from Graham McNeill's Ultramarines novels. He lost his arm in one of the stories so I asked J-Paint to make me a model of him with his arm gone, and also a bit larger than a normal marine model as Pasanius is supposed to wear modified terminator armour because he's such a beast. And he had to have a heavy flamer as that's his signature (Some of you might have seen him on J-Paint's blog, minus a head.) His head is from the new Sternguard box
I've also ordered some bits from the Commander sprue so I can make a Uriel Ventris model (also from the Ultramarines series) xxx
Love the Pasanius model, I made one myself from his stint in the Deathwatch using the FW bionic parts, but I do like the modified armour look to yours. I'm not too keen on the Heavy Flamer though, it just looks too big to be wielded with one hand, even for a Marine like Pasanius.
Hello dear followers! I have been away from lovely dakka for the LONGEST TIME D:
I'm nearly done with my Masters course now (well, apart from the 15,000 word dissertation...) so I have a bit more free time to spend painting (Ok, not as much time as I'd have if I wasn't spending most of my Easter break on WoW, but I have time none the less )
I don't have much in the way to post atm, but I thought I'd give you a group shot of EVERYTHING I am working on/plan to start very soon. And when I say most of the models in this photo are WIP, they really are WIP so don't get too excited.
Ok so from left to right... Work has begun on Fulgrim's head, soon to be followed by his body and base. I'm still terrified of ruining him so he may actually be pushed back a little until I get a little less rusty.
Probably the one I'm most excited about atm, my scratch built Uriel Ventris!!! He's going to be beautiful. I can't find a head for him I like so I'm thinking he's going to have to be helmeted as he is here...
Next up, basic colour is going down on my Pasanius! Incidentally, I learnt at the Black Library Live! event that I've been pronouncing his name wrong all along... either that or Graham McNeill doesn't know his own characters, clearly it's Graham in the wrong
Then we have a random vet who was originally going to be an Ultramarine but somehow ended up with Fulgrim...
Another vet who is undecided as to where his loyalties lie at this moment,
A vet who WAS going to be an Imperial Fist (note the badly removed yellow paint, thank you Fairy Power Spray) but I just cannot paint yellow. So he'll be an Ultra or Emperor's Child.
And if all that wasn't enough, my sorcerer!
The line up isn't binding, I'll probs be doing a bit here and there on all of them and never get any of them finished
Oh and this guy...
My fondly named 'Disco Marine'. May or may not come to fruition
I am also seriously considering getting the Forge World Phoenix Terminators IF I can finish at least one damn model first.
That was a lot of info and not a lot of exciting pictures so sorry about that but hopefully you're all still here lurking and will be willing to give me helpful advice
P.s. sorry to the last few posters for not getting back to you before I went AWOL! ...
MagosBiff90 wrote:LOVING Pasanius!! Looks awesome! he is a true beast! And that model really captures his descriptons in the Ventris series of books!
Cant wait to see him with a paint job.
Thank you very much, I literally went with what I thought he looked like and also used the cover of one of the books... can't for sure remember which one it is, possibly The Killing Ground

That sounds cool! Haha I knew that some people would argue against the flamer and I do understand totally I just really wanted to have him using it

well its a collection thats for sure nice to see you back to it and you have enjoyed your break guess you are still at uni then how long you got left
I totally get your hesitation when it comes to painting such a miniature, but trust me break that habit otherwise you will have minis sitting in boxes collecting dust
Love "Disco Damnation Marine" I just see a unit of clubbing marines in my head now
Looking forward to seeing your new models Bubble. No worries about the Fulgrim model, youll do great on him and then youll be a much better painter for it.
Cheers

Lol I'm sure I wont be but thanks haha! xxx
Ok so (in my eyes) an exciting update for you today! I decided to combine my Uriel and Pasanius models as they're such bros and make a diorama! You can see the general idea for the base here....
In essence, they are going to be back to back, standing on this rocky bit of land. Uriel is also going to have his foot on a dead daemonette to go with him holding the bloodletter's head. The daemonette is missing atm as she's being stripped of her original paint as of now
Thanks so much LDD! You're my lone supporter at the moment it would seem haha
I'm excited to paint the daemonette as it's something so different for me and I'll get to use exciting PINKS :O
I'm really proud of what I have to show you today, Pasanius is finished!
The one and only returns no seriously looks great I have to say painting marine or termi armour is a real pain.
You have to get the look just right IMHO it can look over done or under, but I think you have got a nice enough balance with this.
You definitely are improving I can see j-paints influences showing through in your work which is a good thing, I like the emblem scratches really draws your eye and adds the grittiness to the model.
Hard to see the flamer detail due to the lighting or this dam iPad, the flesh tone and facial detail looks great and nice toning all most see the rage colour to his face.
You really do keep improving with your updates, keep up the hard work

Hi LDD! Again it looks like you're the only one who cares for my painting attempts and I love you for it! *hug* Thanks for the comment!
Yes you're right, the scratches in the symbol were his idea, and I think it made the transfer look better...
It's not your iPad, you're right, you can't see the flamer so I took a couple of better photos of it for you. It's not particularly ground-breaking, but I like how dirty it looks
Lo Bubble.
Great job on Pasanius. Nice shading on the armour, the blue has a really nice depth to it.
The face is really good. Nice skin tone. The scratches and damage to the arm gives a nice story to the model.
Your painting has really improved of late. Keep it up.
A neat trick to apply to heat weapons like flamers and meltas is to apply a bit of purple and blue wash (blue on the end of the weapon fading to just a little purple). It's really easy to experiment with, and gives the weapons that look that metal gets when it is subjected to intense heat.
Pasanius looks excellent, and you did a bang up job on the face, especially looking back at the Sanguinary Guard that didn't have any lenses in their helmets. Those eyes are great.
EDIT - It does kill me a bit to see one of the oldschool daemonettes used as base fodder. I love those models.
Thank you faithful followers! Haha are you disappointed she's not boob side up?
Hi Chemical, thanks for dropping by. Yes that's a great idea- at some point I did think of doing something like that and then I promptly forgot lol
Oh god don't remind me of those models, I looked at them the other day... I was only just starting out then so they're obviously not great. I might actually redo some of them
HAHA that's exactly what J-Paint said! Ooops...
As they're vaguely relevant I thought I'd up put up some photos of my visits to Warhammer World! (I have more interesting photos of actual STUFF from the Hall of Miniatures etc if you want to see them let me know )
Me and my new boyfriend (lovely of him to let me rest my bag against his foot )
I have some growing to do :(
The tiny baby Rhino which I don't think would actually fit any Marines...
And if it doesn't work out with the Ultramarine, Lurtz looks game!
Oh and here's on of my books Graham McNeill signed for me
And my FINAL shameless self-promotion... my FULGRIM SHOES :O My best friend made them for me and they're so awesome!!! I figured if anyone was going to appreciate them it might be you guys! I've been showing them to anyone who will listen to me, including Graham haha.
PHEW, that was a lot of photos Anyway, next stages in terms of painting are getting the daemonette done- I've just put down a 'Fulgrim Pink' base for her skin (yessss it's an edge paint but I'm making it work ) and purple and blue tentacles. Then work will begin on Uriel (whose head has gone AWOL at this moment...) xxx
Noooo Giraffe I'm not strange well actually, who am I kidding
Hi Rogue, thanks a lot Good to see you back
Sorry it's been a bit slow, not really much of an update today but I wanted to post something and keep up the progress blog...
My daemonette has been giving me more trouble than I'd hoped (she 's clearly upset that she has to play a corpse in this little vignette of Utra awesomeness....) I originally had her hair an exciting turqoise but it just wasn't working. I couldn't wash it with anything etc... So the whole model looks more subtle now that she has a purple do. She needs a little tidying up here and there, but I just wanted to show you the pool of blood that is forming and (slowly but surely) drying around her. Will post another photo when it's dry and hopefully it should look suitably glossy.
Uriel is coming along nicely, albeit still missing a head. Debating whether to just stick the helmeted head I quite like on him and be done with it, or to green stuff a bit of a quiff onto another head that I think could work... I kinda want him un-helmeted like Pasanius so the 'human' element is there for both of them... I'm going with a green cloak rather than the white I would normally do for my Ultras, because green is the company colour for these two He may look a little like a christmas decoration though...
As you can see the base has gone down on the bloodletter's head. I chose Blazing Orange as I'm hoping to do a sort of reverse highlighting thing with red on top so he looks like he's all glowy underneath
And I've finally started on Mr Perfect. With the airbrush. Because he has to be perfect.
... It's not cheating... I swear. I'm not very good at it yet so we'll see how that goes. Just started the gold, looks very intricate in places so wish me luck!
Oh and yes, his sword had an accident... It will be reglued, never fear! xxx
Great purple shade bubble! No worries about the sword, I broke the mace on my seaogre twice now and it's just that pesky weak resin to blame don't forget to slash the both sides of the join so the superglue settles nice and strong!
Keep on it!
BB
Ooooh, I like how the ultra captain is forming, and is that a GREEN cloak I see? That's unique, lass! I like it. I like the realism and extent of the deamonette blood and how it drips off the base hahaha, it's real cool. I cant help but notice though that the blood looks quite flat D:, I dont normally apply blood effects to my models, but you could try adding some black while the pool is wet closest to the corpse to represent like depth and thickness? I dont know, this is all some really nice work either way!
I'm really excited to see Fulgrim, purple is my favorite color! I'm sorry to hear about the sword though, that's probably my only gripe about some of the fiddly bits on Forgeworld models. Yeah they're detailed but they're oh so delicate. A friend of mine has Red Scorpion power swords that look like floppy noodles because they're so thin.
Looking good there Bubble. i too like how the blood flows off the base it's a nice touch also, maybe it's the picture but the blood does look a little flat.
uriel looks great! not much else you can say about him.
Mr.Perfect will most likely look great when you're done with him so i'm not the least worried there
Well the blood looks a little ketchuppy to me to be honest but that might be because its still wet so we will see, the rest looks like a good start and the purple pops nicely.
The uriel model looks pretty dam good although not sold on the red/green cloak sorry but a bit to festive looking for me
Hey bubble, absolutely loving the Pasanius/Ventris diorama. i think your plan for it captures a great seen and the face on Pasanius looks amazing. i dont know how you people paint eyes....i just cant.
Thank you gentlemen for the comments I have just finished a 72 hour timed essay so I can get back to my painting, hoorah!

Haha yes, not sure if you saw but I explained earlier that#s cuz they're second company and green is their thanggg Yes... it might still be a little flat... because whilst it was still wet I went to bed haha I will sort it, don't worry!

Ohhhh LDD you're so mean to me haha You're right, it does need a bit more depth.
Lol I said it might look like a christmas decoration... :( I think I'll just make the whole cloak green to avoid that issue

and the shoes....fabulous
THANK YOOOOU yay someone likes my shoes I want ultra ones too lol. Cheers, it's a good cheat for making the transfer look less... transfery haha
I'm going with the classic red cloak for Fulgrim, does everyone think that'll work nicely? I hope so cuz I couldn't think of any other colour to do it lol xxx
Did you stop uploading the images onto Dakka? I can see the work on the Marine Diorama from before, but everything else is little red X's. So wherever they're hosted from, the work web-blocker haaaates it.
No worries on my end, I'll just check later when I get home.
I just wanted to post something to let you know I'm not dead, but expect radio silence until the end of this month, then my dissertation will be finished and I'll be freeeeee foreeeverrr! (Well, until I start a job lol)
I hope to get back to models at the start of August
I have one question for you though, I might have already asked this but my brain is like a sieve sometimes... Can anyone recommend me a good orange paint? I'm having NO luck with orange, the old GW one I have (blazing orange) just won't cover the blood letter head??
And I just wanted to share these with you... how amazing are my new shoes...
GiraffeX wrote:Welcome back bubble those shoes look fantastic.

Tigurius wrote:Awesome shoes aside, and they are awesome...
Pasanius is really good. Why? Because you've used the fluff to make him properly accurate. Modified terminator armour? Superb. The arm? Excellent.
You've obviously given it some thought, and it really pays off. Well done.
Wow thanks Tigurius, I find I'm a lot more into the conception of models if I'm using the fluff Which leads me onto a problem actually... I need advice from you guys. I chose Pasanius's head really carefully as it had to fit my idea of him. I found a head for Uriel which wasn't as close to my idea as Pasanius's was, but it was acceptable. I promptly lost the head, and we can only assume it has gone into the warp, never to be seen again. So, this leaves me with limited choices. the WIP head at the moment can be seen here...
Do you think it being helmeted ruins the effect of the diaroma some how? Pasanius is obviously bareheaded and has lost an arm so does Uriel being helmeted make him look... to complete and pristine considering their plight? I need your opinions so I can make a decision whether to persue my online space marine head shopping or not...
I think the helmet looks great and love the diorama idea. If I was too suggest anything it would maybe be the angle of the helm? Tilted to one side but looking straight he seems a bit..... Quizzical maybe? Maybe looking along the line of one if arms?
I agree with San on the angle of the helm. Perhaps he should be facing more up, as if he's looking at his sword, or just past it (otherwise it looks like he's mesmerised by his own sword ).
Lovely job on the diorama so far! And those shoes... DO WANT! (although I'd love to have a Blood Angels one )
San76 wrote:I think the helmet looks great and love the diorama idea. If I was too suggest anything it would maybe be the angle of the helm? Tilted to one side but looking straight he seems a bit..... Quizzical maybe? Maybe looking along the line of one if arms?
Hi San yep I will angle it, was just popping it in for the sake of the photo

Hahah I want to have every legion! (Well not every legion but most ) I think you're right about looking at the sword!
I'm happy to report I've found the bare head that I wanted to use, so I won't be using the back-up helmeted one shown here, I just think the diorama will look better if we can see the emotion in his face
Making progress with Fulgrim, used the airbrush for the first (proper) time... Allowed me to get some really nice shading the cloak- you can't see that overly well here, sorry about that. He's also wearing purple eye makeup, not recovering from two black eyes before someone makes that joke hahah
Fulgrim is coming on nicely, he isn't my favourite primarch model but you are doing him justice. A good purple and the red on the cloak looks really well shaded too.
I like the atmosphere of the piece its like the final stand you can imagine them surrounded by Demons,
The painting is nice and vibrant and the snow contrast well to lift it even more so, the only thing I would have done different is added more blood splatter
Thanks Angelofvengeance, Childe, Giraffee, Paradigm and Dr H!

Hahah never too much blood!
Ok so Fulgrim is still in progress but I've just got my hands on Rylanor!
He's beautiful and I'm super excited to paint him. I've started to pose him and I've always wanted to make an EC dreadnought diorama based on this image -
It's got a similar theme to this wonderful model I saw at Warhammer Fest -
I'm basically going to combine the two and have Rylanor, reaching up to touch one of the flowers on a tree, and have some bloody mess at his feet. I think it really catches the essence of the Emperor's Children... obviously not a unique concept but I always loved the idea so screw it, imma make it dioramas are exciting to me
I Like the idea of mixing up the beauty that is nature with the devastation that is war
Just a thought depending on how large the diorama base is going to be you could combined a war torn environment merging into a elegant landscape, if you like of that is
