The best part about Diablo 3's plot is that it requires so much effort to actually find that you kind of have to go out of your way to be harmed by it.

That is true. My biggest issue is that i'm the kind of person who has trouble not seeking out every little thing in every little corner of a game.

Ah well. I'm still having fun with it

I'm not gonna lie. I mostly didn't pay attention to the plot as I was destroying demons. I played the witch doctor but the demon hunter was pretty cool too. It kinda is too WoW-esque for diablo in my opinion but StarCraft 2 was as well.

I'm actually rather surprised miss turtles. First you played Warhammer fantasy, then talk about playing turn based strategy like xcom and now diablo. I suppose I should ask if you play Endless Legend or Endless Space 2 or similar games.

--------

I'm most looking forward to Gears Tactics which released today. I should be playing it by Thursday or Friday.

Until then i'm just playing xcom: chimera squad which is ok. For 10 USD it's a steal but it's not the greatest. There are good tactical parts but some of it seems too easy, the dialog is hammy/corny, some of the animation is not the best, the alien and hybrid voice actors are awful except the sectoid guy and the map are very contained in comparison to xcom. Breaches can be fun and some equipment is cool but to an extent it could be significantly better. The hardest bits by far are evac missions. If you don't have to evac at all the missions are ridiculously easy.

Huh. I really feel that diablo 3 did much more harm to WoW's design than the other way around. Adopting the 'adventure mode' missions as the filler end game 'content' for WoW being the biggest one.

XCOM: Chimera Squad is out and I love it. Now I get to split my time between Animal Crossing, Persona 5 Royal, and XCOM. Plus still trying to work down mini backlog.

Things are getting busy this quarantine.

Trying my hand at Bannerlord. Really shows that Mount and Blade vanilla might as well stand for bland. Like Warband, mods will really elevate it to a great game (if its fixed).

Playing gears tactics and enjoying it so far. I completed act1 chapter 4 and after watching a couple people play it I only had a little trouble with it. I'm enjoying the game so far. I think my least favorite class is the one with the bayonet lancers. It can do nice stabbing damage and sometimes that class can intimidate and knock back enemies but usually the enemy overwatch outranges intimidate. It can be good if you have wretches or locusts shotgunners on your guys though. Spamming executions is ridiculous. I mostly downed a bunch of locust so I had 2 soldiers execute them all together and they kept boosting the rest of the team. When I finished all the executions the other 2 teammates went from no actions or a couple actions to 6 actions each. It was utterly absurd. Needless to say they tore through the other 1 to 2 enemies left with actions to spare.

Btw shotgun locusts can be somewhat bs but maybe if you plant grenades between them and your squad you might be ok.

Well after a thoroughly enjoyable Civ 5 game where I won an easy diplomatic victory (man just focusing on your economy and buying everything makes the game too easy) I could jump into any other game I have in my Steam list that I bought and haven't played!

...I of course re-installed Skyrim and am playing that again because god forbid I should try something else...

I finally won my Lothern Campaign in Total War II. I managed to destroy Britonnia and their filthy peasants, after suffering through them confederating across their kingdom and in Araby, and then launched a 2 front invasion of Naggarond with a tag team of Tyrion and teclis coming up from the vampire coast while my highest normal general invaded the north, the two meeting in the middle after a long campaign that was still somehow less tedious than britonnia.

Then I basically bullied Vlad Von Carstein with my favorite general, hunted down Archaeon, and won the short and longterm campaigns within a turn of eachother after Chaos decimated the empire.

Favorite battle has to either be the battle where I had Tyrion fight Sigisvuld in the corpse of marienburg, My favorite normy General having a really close battle against archaeon, or Teclis nuking two britonnian armies by himself thanks to Arc Lightning and that net spell.

now I'm finally giving the empire a chance, and struggling with capturing marienburg without losing everything.

The whole concept of buying late game equipment in a diablo game was bad and was brought over directly from WoW. It was much more damaging to the design of Diablo 3 than generic content in WoW endgame as it fundamentally broke the gameplay loop of the entire game. You couldn't have high drop rates as it would break the "economy" of the auction house, which just meant that many players would not bother with actually playing the game to try and acquire that equipment as it would just take too long, rather just buying it.

Add in the whole "with real money" on top to make it even worse.

That's.... an interesting perspective, I guess. I've never really considered equipment particularly relevant in a diablo game- its junk that cycles too fast to get attached to, with no end point. The auction house seemed its own irrelevant thing, and Blizz was trying to profiteer off stupid player decisions. Whether other players were 'playing the game' or not seems irrelevant. But it doesn't strike me as WoW influencing D3's design, since you can't do that with the WoW AH. The gear that matters is all character-bound on pickup, and Blizz doesn't get a slice of real money with each sale. So blaming WoW for something that began and ended inside D3 doesn't make much sense.

Replacing real endgame content with generic repeatable crap, however, actually harms the game in a way that I care about.

You're not supposed to get attached to it. Stopping to sort through the junk and discover the few pieces that improve your character breaks up the monotony of the rather simplistic combat. The initial launch of D3 tried to enforce enough scarcity that people didn't get the reward section of the loop often enough to keep it interesting.

Beat Uncharted 3.
Kinda......just Ok. They brought back some really annoying bullet sponge enemies, the shotgun guys made me pull my hair out.
Kinda boring story TBH, the villains didnt seem like much, the big final city was amazing, but the whole curse and stuff behind it was lame, kinda felt like it didnt have the "Magic" or wonder to it shambala did.
The constant breaking up and getting back together of Elena and Nate seemed annoying.
The desert chapter made me angry, i legit got bored.
The set pieces however where great, The Convoy on the horse, the sinking ship, all of it. makes it fun.

Blaz Blue: Calamity Trigger, bought it and all of its sequels for 18 NZD on Steam last night and I'm on cloud nine because I haven't played Chronophantasma and Central Fiction yet and been wanting to for years. Continuum Shift is one of my favourite games ever once I wrap my head around all the strange Latinish terms the characters throw out left, right and centre without any explanation for the player(A huge no-no in storytelling and something I'm a bit guilty of from time to time) The story is great, a little convoluted for me, but the great/fun characters really make up for it in my eyes. Loving it!

Oh wow. Different strokes I guess. I find the first 2 Uncharted games to be pretty boring, but I soldiered through them because they did just enough to keep me going. It wasn't until 3 that they really roped me in. I really feel like they get better as you go, 3 and 4 are my absolute favorite entries. Lost Legacy was quite good as well, though very short.

Bought Snowrunner on ps4, mixed feelings.

The driving is at points worse then Spintiers/Mudrunner. The steering is all over the place and you both understeer and oversteer like crazy. One tiny flick on the stick at the wrong time and you are all over the road/path. I feel as if i am in a NFS game when i get past 2nd gear. Spintires/Mudrunner was mutch better in that regards.
Camera is allso worse in Snowrunner.

Mutch more to do in Snowrunner tough. Large maps with several districts,, account lvsystem, lotsofupgrades for every vehicle and its taking you from u.s to russia and no more hauling lumber as the only object of the game.
IF you can overcome the bad steering mechanics and the bad camera, it is a realy good realistic offroad game, but if you cant, then spintiers/mudrunner is a better game from a driving point.

Total war warhammer 2 with the Empire rework. Havn't gotten around to a full playthrough before. Playing on legendary difficulty with Karl Franz. It was very difficult in the beginning but once I stabalized I found it much easier to keep everything togheter. Also I'm swimming in influence and prestige so I intend to do mass confederations. I do like the new system but I kind of feel like the various threats feel less... Well threatening. Like the early game has gotten more difficult but the mid-late game more easy because you have so many tools and so much more agency over how you confederate with the Empire. That said I really like the feel of being the Emperor navigating the political landscape. I just wish there was more varied events, think I had the same event happen something like 3 times now. I really like the fortresses. I really like that you kind of want more generals around now to get full use of the elector counts bonuses. Overall it's been a blast though in a weird way I feel like I'm afraid of being to strong. Nothing can touch me at the moment and when chaos comes around I really want it to be a desperate struggle, not a steamroll.

Well, I *was* going to be playing some Red Dead Redemption 2 over the weekend, as it comes out on Xbox Game Pass tomorrow. However, it's just come available to pre-load, and it's saying Xbox Live Gold membership is also required...

Is that actually a requirement for RDR2 anyway, or are they doing some horrible 'premium content' sort of thing?

The game has lots of online content, so the Live pass might be a system requirement. I don't know for sure, though.

For some reason I own Driveclub on PS4. It must have come with the console or something. Anyway I finally got round to playing it.

So far the game seems to be sorely lacking for content. As far as I can tell there is no career mode, so I can only make one-off races with no overall goal. There are a bunch of tracks but I started with access to only two cars. I unlocked a third, but it is worse than one of the starting ones. I can't access any of the online features without a subsciption but I don't really want to play multiplayer anyway.

Am I missing something here? It seems like the game is completely devoid of content, other than racing for the sake of it to unlock more cars

Noticed this free MMO called Meridian 59. Sounds cool and the download is stupidly small, but I’ve never tried an MMO before. This is mostly out of worry of toxic playerbases.
Do MMO communities live up to the horror stories you see on the internet?

It... depends.

First, it depends if you're playing the game or just hanging out in cities paying attention to the chat. There tends to be a pretty big difference between the two, and the second is easily solved- if you aren't playing, log off. If you have to be in the city for something else, drop out of the chat channels.

Similarly, at least for WoW, the forums are much, much worse than the game itself, and that seems part of a general trend. Its particularly baffling on the WoW forums, since you can't post if you don't have an active account, and given how much many people on the forums seem to hate the game and the company, I can't imagine why they would. Also worthy of note, I find the most toxic people in these circumstances are the ones complaining about people complaining, or the ones that want something that isn't in the game.

Personally, in practice I've never found MMOs all that different from single player games. There's multiplayer stuff that you can do, but often no real reason to. You're either waiting for other people (as they dither, go on bio break, or whatever) or being rushed by other people (as they want to get the current dungeon over with NOW, if not five minutes ago), and I don't find either particularly fun. And often the rewards (of maybe better gear with which to get more slightly better maybe gear), aren't worth the time and effort.

But in general.... no. 'Toxic' communities tend to be overblown, and the ones that do exist are easily avoided.

It varies heavily. PvP - no matter which game or genre - seems to attract the most toxicity.

Playing more gears tactics. I'm wondering what it is but for some reason the game is starting to lose appeal to me. I think it has to do with the stupid amount of gear you have to sift through for various missions. It's a good game that's for sure. It just needs some optimization, a little more side mission variety and some more weapon types or classes. A mortar, flamethrower, hammer of dawn special ability and a similarity to Jack (basically the little 'gremlin' hover drones in xcom 2 were in gears before those were even a thing in xcom 2). It's a solid game. I just want more. It's pretty much the same complaint I had for xcom: enemy unknown.

Yes and no. Drive Club was basically designed as a multiplayer racing game. They threw all the development efforts on the "clubs" and then the mechanics on driving and weather and making it look pretty. It may seem lean on content right now, but that's mostly because the game itself is dead and they stopped running community events and stuff for the clubs. I don't think its even available for sale anymore.

Also you had it for free because the game was free, originally for only PS+ Members but after a bunch of delays they made it free for everyone as an apology.

It's an amazing combination. When you get to those narrow corridors and everyone's dropping grenades, one grunt can flood a whole hallway with plasma.
For some reason, we noticed that the grunts may explode if they spawn in as dead entities. One of the missions was a lot easier, simply because the grunts corpses kept blowing up the flood before we even got there.

I just felt thee 3 was a rehash of 2 with much of the same plot, mostly finding a city before the villain does.
yeah i know there are differences, but it doesnt feel like it.

My opinion of 4 was that it was the perfect end to the trilogy. 3 left me feeling really flat about the whole thing. The game felt super disconnected from the plot, most notable when you get kidnapped, sink a cruise ship, wash up on shore and walk back into the bar you were kidnapped from.

So, just finished my second back-to-back playthrough of God of War... holy gak. I feel like an ass for waiting so long to play that game. That was an absolutely sublime experience. It may actually be my favorite game I've ever played. Haven't done back-to-back playthroughs since the original Dead Space way back in '08. I also have to give credit to Santa Monica for no DLC. The game is a complete package on its own and I have so much fething respect for that.

if you have a PS4 and haven't played it, do yourself a favor and give it a go. Now.

Signed back into Bioware's Iron Man simulator. The gameplay was still as fun as I remembered, though the issues with the game are still there as well. Rubber-banding would happen for short bits from time to time. And on two separate occasions during Free Roam I ended up getting somehow stuck in the scenery (which slowly killed me). Fortunately that happened while I was inside one of the Free Roam mini-instance caves. So I was able to respawn at the entrance, and force my way out where the problem resolved itself (note that reentering the instance caused the problem to recur...).

I ran the new dungeon. But since it appears that the only dungeon anyone runs these days is Tyrant Mines, I ended up clearing the new dungeon solo since the party finder gave up trying to find a party for me.

Let's hear it for easy gear-ups and horribly overgeared characters!

Bioware has stopped updating the game, but they're apparently working on 2.0. I really enjoy the core gameplay. So I hope they can correct the problems with the game and make something that will last.

There was one thing that I found amusing. Loading times in Anthem are *much* faster than they were at launch. Meanwhile, the online loot and shoot game that I've invested a lot of time in lately is Division 2, and the stupidly long load times are a running joke among my friends and I (In particular, we make comments about "9%", which is where the loading time seems to frequently stall for a while).

I'm trying to decide if I'm surprised they're working on an Anthem 2, given how badly they bungled it.

They didn't screw up that badly with Andromeda, and killed that, and it was an established IP.

Very much not surprised they killed updates.

My understanding is that it isn't so much Anthem 2 as it is a 2.0 update. Kind of like how Final Fantasy XIV went from 1.0 (BAD!) to 2.0 A Realm Reborn (Yeah!). Yes, FFXIV had a pretty big overhaul. But a number of core elements remained in that game after ARR's launch. I think that's the template that Bioware is hoping to follow. In theory, this means you should be able to carry over your character from the 1.0 rollout (which is what happened in FFXIV). However, I haven't been paying that much attention to the news on this, and from what I understand there's only been a single announcement made about it earlier this year (which was a few months after someone leaked that it was happening). So it's all just speculation right now, aside from the fact that they're trying to overhaul the game and save it. Hopefully Bioware will release more information at some point during the next few months.

As for killing IPs - one of the rumors that I saw was that EA had tried to kill Anthem, but Bioware managed to keep it alive for at least a little longer.

I tried to play Anthem a while ago. Stutter and lag was appalling and made it unplayable (walking around fort tarsis was basically in slow motion). Didn't make any difference what settings I used, even turning everything down to low did nothing.

My laptop ran it fine during the pre-release beta free trial thing, so whatever updates they've released since have tanked its performance for me.

Is that actually a requirement for RDR2 anyway, or are they doing some horrible 'premium content' sort of thing?

you need it for the online part, not for the single player.

I suspected that was the case. Annoyingly, the implementation of it on Game Pass prevents you from even downloading it if you don't have Live Gold - same as online only stuff like Sea Of Thieves. Bah.

Update - they may have just sorted that. Checked again and it's not saying that any more... Fingers crossed!

One of the best compliments that I've heard about Spiderman from a friend of mine was that even just swinging around the city was a lot of fun. Admittedly, you wouldn't want to spend an hour doing it. But it was interactive in a fun and good way. Though you should still fast travel a few times because the brief cut scenes during the fast travel sequences are mildly amusing.

Weird. Sorry to hear that. Anthem was another game where even traveling around was fun. But the game has so many other issues...

I finished the "story mode" of Green Hell last night.

Like all sandbox survival games, its pretty fun but gets tedious, so I was glad that the story was pretty quick and I didn't have to worry too much about food/nutrient/hydration levels and all the other things that make these types of games kind of punishingly boring.

The story was cool, but I would've liked a bit more hostile natives to spice things up.

Well, I went and got myself Iratus Lord Of The Dead last night, and I find myself very much annoyed with my purchase. While it delivers on the roguelike elements and grim setting it falls flat on its face when it comes to any sort of surprises in its gameplay and mechanics overall. The combat feels dull and lacks any real consequences besides the loss of minions. And the selection of items you get in the game is just dull. So best avoid this one, even if it is in the same nature of Darkest Dungeons

Sounds familiar. Have you ever heard of The Forest? Kind of similar, but with a horror bend to it. Look up a monster called “Virginia” and you’ll see what I mean. Survival stuff didn’t feel too tedious either.

Started playing through "Control" . . . . man is it WEIRD.

Its fun, and the UI and default control scheme on playstation is good, but the story is just so fething weird.

Basically, the whole game so far, you are usually "hearing" "voices", as this alternate dimensional Thing has taken over the Federal Bureau of Control, an agency in charge of investigating and containing paranormal events. . . You are there on your own agenda, but are quickly made the Director of the agency, and now you gotta solve the thing to open the place back up and halt world problems, or something. . .

Control is pretty great. Definitely inspired by David Lynch's style of weirdness where its more about enjoying the novelty of madness than getting anything from trying to "figure it out". Try to avoid spoilers. Some of my favorite nonsense in recent years comes from that game.

I actually felt it wasn't nearly weird enough. They got some basics from paranormal 'research' and late night radio shows, but apart from a couple laughs and a few moments of creep, it felt like a MadLibs approach to the paranormal. Where <thing> did <stuff> and huzzah, spooky, right?

The overuse of redacted internal memos certainly reinforced that. But mostly the game was an excessive bullet-sponge shooting gallery (and way too few enemy types, most of which are completely ineffective and nonthreatening) with some nice graphic effects.

Finished Pathologic 2, absolutely wonderful game. For some reason, playing an extraordinarily difficult game about a plague and beating it was really what I needed right now. I lost once on a late day, restarted, and powergamed the living hell out of the game, becoming Artemy Burakh, Lord of Eggs, Prince of Mountain Dew Tinctures. Didn't save everyone, but honestly didn't end up caring to - some of the NPCs I'm perfectly happy to see die.

Now I'm back to Cultist Simulator and Dragon Age Origins.

I tried to go back to Tekken 7 but I am sad to see what a horrendous, DLC-riddled mess it has become. It now has THREE season passes and a bunch of individual character downloads. Presumably some of the individual characters are included in the season passes but they deliberately make it as confusing as possible in the hopes of tricking people into buying the same thing twice. I paid a lot of money for the original game (albeit with an awesome statue thing) but right now I only have access to about 70% of the characters. Pathetic.

Playing through Halo 2 Anniversary with a friend.

Halo CE Anniversary had a function where you could switch the graphics in the middle of a level between old and new at the push of a button. Halo 2 has this graphic switching function as well, but it also switches the sounds and music. Really makes a world of difference, and sort of makes the tone between the two feel a bit separate.

Seems they also got one of the guitarists of Periphery onboard, so we were caught off guard when metal started blaring from the speakers.

I know there was a lot of drama with the game when it first came out, but everything seemed fine to me. But for an online game, it was pretty deserted. I saw one or 2 people on occasion wandering around near the starting area, but that's about it.

Each 76 'server' (shard is probably more accurate) is 24 people. It'll be different people each time you log in (or as they log out), but at this point you're not going to see many near the starting vault.
Part of it is simply that the ol' Bethesda engine can't handle more- its the same engine that Skyrim used, and that inherited its basics from the engine used for Fallout 3 (and Morrowind and Oblivion). While they modify the engine and change things for each game, its got a lot of legacy crud infesting its guts.

To make matters worse, the netcode is a juryrig from Quake. (partly because Beth owns id), so even more legacy issues, and then just spliced into a revised version of fallout 4, which was never built to handle anything but single player.

So you'lll never see a lot of people in 76. The game has a hard cap, because it just can't handle more than 24. And even then... Youtube videos of Scorch Beast fights are hilarious. The game chugs and framerate plummets with just a dozen players.

Been playing xcom 2: WOTC some more. I'm almost entirely tier 3. Just need the resources to outfit my guys with plasma snipers and that'll be most of any upgrade worthwhile

I should probably head back to gears tactics soon since I never beat it. Gears tactics hit the ground moving and kissing ass and taking names. I'm so happy I've both been able to play it while waiting for legit xcom 3.

Xcom chimera squad puts a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth with the same encounters, almost everybody in the team are friendly but I except just a bit more wariness between all the aliens, humans and hybrids about how learning to live together is hard when you were once combatants and the other side intended to commit genocide and wipe out most or all of humanity so the elders could replace them.

Don't get me wrong. Chimera squad makes sense in a way but even describing how the whole squad was buddy buddy despite previously being enemies.

In more description. Every mission is split up into encounters. I actually hate this as its a very limited fighting area withoug going beyond it. I like breaches but it should only happen I'd some door are locked security doors and both side knowing there's gonna be a big fight so they do some sneaky swat stuff. The game has alternate turns too so it becomes more about killing whoever is next so they die before using actions. Some might like it but its not for me. I dont like hacking too much but i think it got lazy. Chimera squad also has pretty iffy and corny dialogue. If you got it when it was 10 or 20 usd it's no big deal. Not great but you should like it.

I'd rather play gears tactics, xcom 2: wotc, wargame and even gladius and the endless series. I've also bbeen meaning to make my starcraft 2 skill get somewhat better. Whether blizzard is the anti Christ of games companies or not right now.

With that game once I get my level maxed and reach the end of the new story, I'm done.. no interest in raiding or any of that, just gets real old real fast. But I hear they are trying to have a built in game controller way of playing, curious to see what that's like .. kinda hate the keyboard/mouse thing for gaming.

No idea how that would work for WoW, most of my characters have about 3 full hotbars (12 abilities each), and that's after the BFA pruning of abilities. Given that they're un-pruning in Shadowlands, I can't imagine that being viable, and that doesn't even touch on the various menus and windows, or juggling 18 equipment slots and 144+ slots of bag space.

Though I wouldn't give up keyboard and mouse for love or money. Controllers are terribly designed things that have led to all sorts of terrible UI decisions seeping into PC games.

Though Blizz needs to overhaul WoW's profession window. They broke its accessibility when they split the professions up between expansions.
I shouldn't have to go multiple menus deep and collapse lists just to find out what my skill ranks are

Wow I think my tablet is busted doing auto correct or something. I said a lot of words incorrectly which is usually a sign of me using a tablet.

Anyway managed a couple fairly tough missions in xcom 2: wotc. One I almost lost but didn't. Nobody was hurt or anything but the device I was protecting got down to 2hp. I faced down 8 heavy mecs, 1 sectopod, 2 spectres, 2 codexes, 2 faceless (hidden in the population) and 1 super heavy turret. None of my guys were injured but it was a really close mission. I only did that mission because it prevented a dark event that would've doubled Intel cost and I didn't want that to happen. Normally doing protect the device missions on hardest difficulty on ironman during late game is foolish. In a lot of games doing protect the device late game is foolish and I didn't need the engineer as a reward. However I hate that dark event a lot.

The other mission was destroying an alien facility and the hunter chosen popped up. Silly as it was I think I killed him by accident from an overwatch shot from a specialist with a superior repeater that auto killed him. If I recall it was the 2nd shot that went for him too. I think one of my soldiers was slightly wounded due to one of the dead advent reanimating as a zombie due to a dark event in place (not a sectoid or gatekeeper psi zombie).

Anyway campaign is going well. I think I've very much hit the late game portion that goes on cruise control where missions aren't that important anymore and overall it's much harder to lose.

In Final Fantasy XI, using the controller actually felt quite natural, even with multiple hot key bars. But it probably helped that the game was designed with a controller in mind (the original release was on the PS2, and the Windows release came a little later).

I like the way ESO and Bless Unleashed work as MMOs on Xbox. I know WOW has tons and tons of buttons and hotbars, but for me anyway once I figure out my class I'm usually only using maybe the same 5-6 abilities the most, and that could easily be mapped to a game controller. You could set up different things like holdling the trigger or finger buttons could pop up different abilities, your dpad can select different potions or whatever. There's a lot of ways you can do it.

For me, I sit in front of a PC 8 hours a day at work, hunched over a keyboard and mouse with cramped up hands. I don't wanna do the same thing when I come home. I find game controllers to just be more comfortable for me to use especially for games that take a really long time to play.

Its actually on sale at the moment on Steam (until thursday), so if you want it, now is a good time.
Given that it arrived on Steam just over a month ago, I've got some questions, but... whatever.

On the other hand, the Witcher 3 complete edition is also about $15, so if people are looking for bargains...
Apparently CD Projekt Red does an anniversary sale (though the game originally came out in August, so... I can't explain that one either. Maybe the first one came out in May?)

I watched a bit of a youtube video on it, before clicking it off, despite usually liking the youtuber's content. Not my cup of tea at all, despite generally liking the game genres involved (and I couldn't figure out what they were trying for as a setting genre at all).
Its trying to do too many things at once, and the graphics and creature designs make me think the Devs thought Morrowind was the bestest thing ever.

Started playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PC since it was on sale. It's refreshing to play an action game where your primary speed is "mosey". First game since The Witcher 3 where I enjoy just looking at the scenery.

As far as Kenshi goes, I tried it but couldn't get into it. It's that kind of niche game where, if it's your niche, it will be one of your favorite games of all time.

I liked the original because of the combat system which at first seemed really dumbed down but ended up being really intense later on in the game. However it looks like in this one they may have put back in the need to press the attack button every 5 seconds...hopefully there's an option to get rid of that later.

I never would have finished the original if a friend hadn't demanded we pull an all nighter to see it through. Didn't consider picking up the sequel.

I liked the original because of the combat system which at first seemed really dumbed down but ended up being really intense later on in the game. However it looks like in this one they may have put back in the need to press the attack button every 5 seconds...hopefully there's an option to get rid of that later.

I mostly despised that Hope(?) was basically necessary to get a working rotation. I forget the specifics of the system, but I just remember him having some kind of unique role that made him essentially mandatory. I did like the system at the end, but I wouldn't have gotten that far on my own interest.

I played through the first game until the party returned to the city, and then never played it again. The game never really clicked for me, and the only character that I really liked was Fang (I think that was her name). Actually, I take that back. I think I also liked Sazh, but I can't really remember much about him except that he had a chocobo chick hiding in his hair. I suppose I should finish it anyway, though, just to do it. Assuming I still have the game.

Despite that, I still bought XIII-2. But I barely played any of it. I never played Lightning's Return.

It's weird. I've really liked both of the Final Fantasy MMORPGs. But the last single-player game that I liked was IX.

Annoyingly my laptop chose this week to die so now I'm having to wait for a replacement before I'll get to play

In the meantime I have Crusader Kings 2 going on my backup laptop (which is also the laptop I use for work) and have just managed to murder my way into a Kingship with my Genius Dwarf Satanist schemer.

How'd you like it? I much prefer Rise, personally. Makes me wish crystal dynamics had done shadow instead.

I quite liked X, even if the voice acting hasn't aged well. Didn't play XI, but XIV was great after Realm Reborn. XII is the only mainline game in the series I haven't finished. The cast just didn't click with me and I found the auto battle rather dull. Even finished XV, which while woefully, woefully unfinished when I played it, had a really fun world, party dynamic and gameplay loop.

Everyone's got their own preferences. I despised VIII. I know a lot of people don't like IX. As mentioned, I didn't care for X. I started X-2. I played XII on the PS2, but never finished it. I've heard that the Zodiac Age release is a lot better, but haven't played it. I haven't tried XV, both because I've been so dissatisfied with the single-player games, and because I've heard only negative things about it.

Though the cross-over event in FFXIV did give me a free four-person mount.

Honestly, none of the more modern games mean as much to me as IV and VI. I don't really mind VIII, though I'm not a super fan of VII either. They kind of blur together with X for me simply because Nomura has something of a template design for his characters. They're all great games though. I just preferred Amano's character designs.

Zodiac Age is... odd. I wanted to play 12 again, but honestly it doesn't go anywhere, and the story is kind of a mess (too manysudden 'Oh, <character> has <solution> to <problem>' and neither the problem nor the solution has come up before), and the class system converges to rather samey builds (at least it did for me).

And the auto battle doesn't sit well with me. As LunarSol says, its pretty dull. Between the character cutscenes where they head off in random directions according to whatever plot element they're currently chasing and the auto-battle, the need for player participation in the game is basically nil. If there was a script to walk your characters to the next objective, you wouldn't need to play at all. That's not really why I play games.

XII as originally released was an attempt to bring the MMORPG experience to a single-player game. I could see that everywhere, right down to the wandering elementals attacking you if you used magic near them (this was something straight out of FFXI, and used to drive me nuts as a White Mage; I'd heal someone, and start getting nuked).

One of the aspects of that was the party combat system. The idea seems to have been to allow you to only focus on one character in combat, while the other party members acted (sort of) intelligently, just like in an MMORPG party.

Needless to say, FFXI was doing *really* well at the time.

The main reason its the only game in the series I've never finished is my wife walked in on me reading a book while I moved my characters to the next battle with my toe and demanded I play a game I actually enjoy.

Just finished Judgment, the Yakuza spin-off detective game. I really enjoyed the plot and their attempt on a new take on their tried and tested formula, though I wasn't a big fan of the tailing missions I had to do, since it felt more like padding/filler in the game than a real mini-game segment. Really missed the karaoke from previous titles, though I understand why they chose not to include it this time around. Overall, definitely in the upper tiers of the Yakuza series, probably somewhere after Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 2.

Both Final Fantasy MMOs support controllers. I played XI that way at times on my 360. It worked very well. I haven't tried to play XIV that way.

And speaking of Final Fantasy XIV and controllers...

Final Fantasy XIV is currently free on the PS4. Get it, and you own it forever. It doesn't include the most recent expansion, but everything else is included.

Of course, you'll need to start paying the subscription when the free time runs out. But if you want to check out an MMORPG that was designed from the ground up with controllers in mind, now would be a good time to do so.

gave tomb raider anniversy and quick whirl, born awesome Lady Croft is way more fun than crybaby murderer reboot

The story is great, but I really didn't care for the gameplay. The stealth was fun, but one enemy spotting you alerts the whole map so I found some of the clicker sections really tedious.

I love the idea of using time nonsense to explain how dozens of characters can have their own stories in a fighting game. The first game in particular is really clever and straight forward, but the series starts falling back on anime nonsense when it runs out of theories to crib.

For the record, all you REALLY need to get to understand the first two games is:

Calamity Trigger
Spoiler:
It's a time loop, with the vampire girl essentially using it to go back in time repeatedly to try and engineer an outcome that doesn't result in the end of existence. Each characters story "happens" but results in everything being erased and starting over.

Continuum Shift
Spoiler:
This one is Schrodinger's Box. The villain needs something incredibly improbable to happen and seals the city off to make every possibility happen simultaneously so that he can choose to observe the improbable reality when he opens the box.

Pretty much everything else is anime nonsense and big important sounding words. It's definitely one of the better done versions of this kind of stuff though, particularly since most of the mystery box nonsense actually pays off pretty well. The third and fourth games just end up with a few too many characters and too many plot threads to make their nonsense feel clever. Spectacular series though.

Thanks for the help. I did eventually understand what was happening in Continuum Shift but it took me a while after playing pretty much every character's story. That's what makes me endure convoluted story is the characters (and lesser extent the interesting world-building) I really like pretty much everyone but most especially Ragna, Noel and Jin (The latter mostly because I like his fighting style) Noel is adorable and likeable and Ragna is a nice dude, in the end. They all have quite anime backstories, but so do my characters so I can't complain and the game is Japanese lol But I even like Hazama/Terumi (Or love to hate him as it was a blast finally defeating him in Continuum Shift) As he's just so over the top and loves to chew on the scenery I can't help enjoy and feel horrified by him, so much so he inspired another villain in my story.

I'm looking forward to completing Chronophantasma and Central Fiction sooner or later!

American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 are both heavily discounted on Steam right now, so I purchased both of them. Both have their attractions. But the developer has an event coming up that will simulate assisting with the rebuilding if the Genoa Bridge (a critical transportation link that collapsed a few years ago) in Italy. So Europe is going to get the bulk of my attention for the moment while I build up the associated freight company. For obvious reasons, the map packs that I bought included the one for Italy.

Gameplay is relaxing, for the most part.

Been getting back into the early Elder Scrolls games. Arena is... surprisingly decent if you want a mindless dungeon crawl. Daggerfall is arguably even better, but the extra bells and whistles can sometimes make it aggravating if you're looking for a casual romp.

Arena's simplicity can be somewhat of a strength. The "open" world is not interconnected by any means, but you can find a surprisingly large number of smaller dungeons if you have the patience to look for them.

So, IMO, a great game is one that accoplishes what it sets out to do. It doesnt need an intimate story , or intricately crafted gameplay to bee good.
Man eater is like that. Its gameplay is simple, with is a little issue with controlling but it gets over quickly. the world is silly and funny. The story has silly characters right out of shows from, the discoery channel, some whackiness combined with humor.
And it was FUN.
Kinda wish there was more to do once you are finished, but thats fine, the game didnt overstay its welcome, came in, said "Play me to a fun podcast and have a blast"
and I did

Why is it a scam? It requires races that are only found in the base game, and sections of the world that are only found in that same game (though the map itself is slightly different, due to different sizes and shapes for some of the provinces). It's basically saying, "You have both games, so we'll let you play a big campaign that uses the content from both games." I don't see how that's a scam. When the third game is released, it will come with a new version of Mortal Empires that requires you to own all three games (though I would imagine that the current version will still work, as well).

Mortal Realms is an unusual opportunity. In normal game development practices, each game would be completely standalone from the others. Mortal Realms gives you an unusual (though not completely unheard of) opportunity to use the content from both games together in one massive campaign.

If you're not interested in that, then don't buy the first game.

I guess it depends what you're fielding. Swordmasters are very much a rock/paper/scissors unit, sending infantry against them is a terrible idea, but decent missiles, cavalry/chariots or monsters/monstrous infantry can roll them like a drunk in an alley.

The map is a bit squished in places, but personally I vastly prefer it to the Vortex campaign. I played the 'storyline' enough that I don't enjoy it- the only time I play it is the additional factions that don't interact with the vortex shenanigans... and have a reason to be in that part of the world- I much prefer the old world as the focus.

Well, the reason I think it could be a scam is because it's seems like a way to make plebs like me who only own 2 to buy 1 as well. It's great if you already owned 1 but if you don't you've got to buy a whole different game and download it because of a 'free' DLC It's quite ingenious if it is. The DLC could work without the 1st one as the assets, races, factions etc could be hidden within the code of the 2nd one. That's what I meant. It might be a bit more preferable if they gave the option to pay for the Mortal Realms DLC by itself at a smaller price for people who don't have 1, but that's just me.

I'll do a bit more research before deciding to buy it as I am interested. I'm just a bit sceptical of things with gaming industry nowadays.

The Vortex thing is getting on my nerves. I just want to take my time and build up an army at my own pace and it seems like a way to rush the player on with even more notifications.

Where TWW is concerned I'd say just go for the version that has the races you like. If you like dwarfs, orcs, vampires, chaos and brettonia then get the first. If you like lizardmen, high elves, skaven and dark elves get the second. If you enjoy what you play at that point you can think about the dlc or the second/first game since there's so much of it. Anyway it'll keep you entertained if you're into total war games.

I've fallen back into Stellaris. Man it's alot of fun. Currently being the good guy humans working hard on forming a galactic federation with no less then 5 species. Started with the L-gate in my system origin and it was very intresting in the early game. Can't wait to open the gate and see what lies beyond. It costs so much though, like 2500alloys!

Mortal Realms was advertised even before the first yame was released as something that would require both games. Additionally, my understanding is that races that don't appear in the second game (for instance, Wood Elves) have their data pulled from the first game's files for the Mortal Realms campaign.

This actually caused a delay in the Mortal Realms rollout. Norsca was added to the first game when the second game was released (and was a pre-order bonus). But there were some technical issues with Norsca due to some last minute changes that made it temporarily incompatible with Mortal Realms.

I'm playing a VC Mortal Empires campaign right now. On turn 240 something. I've won the short game and there are like 10 real factions left. I'm trying to invade the High Elf lands since they decided to ally with the remnants of the Bretonnia faction and I bloody hate fighting the High Elves. I win, but I always attack 2v1 or 3v2 and the Phoenix Guard/Swordmasters soak so much damage while their archers eat everything in range. I'm just feeding them T1 Skeletons, but it's still disheartening to lose so many of them every game.

Norsca was a database incompatibility issue because their teams didn't communicate enough (The TW2 changed the underlying database, while expansion team jury-rigged the old game's database to get various things like the hunts working). It didn't work out, and they had to rebuild Norsca from the ground up. It didn't actually delay the Mortal Realms campaign, just the inclusion of the DLC Norsca factions. At first the non-playable 'Norscans' (including the Alghol & etc) used the stripped down version from before the DLC in both Vortex and Mortal Empires.

But pretty much all the TW1 races do appear in TW2. They aren't playable, but the Empire has the New World Colonies, Brets have the knights, Dwarves are down in the Lustrian and Southland mountains, orcs here and there (though mostly savages), wood elves in that southland oasis, vampires were placeholders in tomb kings locations, assorted beastmen, and chaos warriors for the vortex event armies.

The big thing was the reworked map and locations (many of which have since been reworked as well), and getting TW1 battle maps redone to TW2 standards- there was a big change in lighting and water in particular. That's why the crossover requirement exists, as the races were already in the TW2 game data at launch for all those NPC factions.

Humble Bundle currently has it for 75% off as part of a general sale on Total War franchise titles. The sale will run for a few more days.

I just had a pleasant surprise. When I signed onto Steam, I saw that I had a new inventory item. I was a bit puzzled, so I took a look. It was a trading card for the original Mirrior's Edge, which I own on Steam. Apparently trading cards just got added for it, no doubt part of EA's current shift to provide full support for its games on Valve's platform. And a quick check on the Steam discussion board for the game revealed that everyone who owns it suddenly got a card out of the blue, even if (like myself) they hadn't played it in quite a while.

Neat!

I am bouncing between GTA V and Snowrunner on PC. Got GTA V for free from EPIC and am enjoying playing through the story mode again. I haven't played since the game was new on X360.

Snowrunner is a beautiful disaster right now.

still PC'less so more 360 stuff

Went back to Ridge Racer and got to about 75% of the map, given up again as its got to the bots are just 'cheats' stage, infinate boosts and being glued to my rear bumper, and cant be faffed to burn the required patterns into sussing it out into the grey matter

Moved onto Red Dead 1, rather good for an old game although had to start from fresh as my saves must have been on the rrod box

Disco Elysium. Probably the most interesting game to come out last year. It’s an... rpg? You play a policeman with amnesia, literally having forgotten everything. The game is centered around the various parts of your brain and body (and on rare occasions clothes) telling you to do things, giving you information and debating. This happens while you interact with other objects and people. You can level up the various parts of your brain/body as well as put levels into thoughts that take time to complete and provide either stats bonuses, effects on interactions or dialog options. The setting is... I think the 50s? There’s a lot about workers unions, political ideologies and a whole lot of other themes. I’m frankly astonished by this game. It’s quite good though there’s immense amounts of reading.

I picked up Dragon Ball Fighters Z in a sale for a tenner and have been having lots of fun with it! The story mode is rubbish but the mechanics and combo system are a joy to play with.
Like all modern fighting games they try to rinse you for DLC characters, but the starting roster is pretty healthy so I can ignore that downside at least!

I grabbed the new Desperados III and took it for a spin. It's developed by Mimimi, the same company that did the excellent Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. But while that game was set in Shogunate Japan, Desperados III is set in the American Wild West. The game play is 3D isometric, and focuses around using a small group of between 2-5 characters with special abilities to overcome or bypass enemies, and accomplish mission goals. I never played the original Desperados games (which were not developed by Mimimi), so I can't comment on the comparisons (this one's apparently a prequel to the first game; I've heard the first game got a lot of positive attention from players, while the second one wasn't as popular), so I can't compare it to them. Mimimi's games have also been compared to the old Commandos series of games from quite a while back.

The gameplay is mostly familiar to anyone who played Shadow Tactics. Many of the same abilities are present, albeit spread around somewhat differently between the characters. John Cooper, the protagonist, has the same "toss a distracting item" ability that the shinobi has in Shadow Tactics, and also dual wields pistols. Hector, the Mexican big guy, has the same whistle and trap abilities that Yuki has, and is the only one who can face Longcoats in hand to hand combat, just like Mugen is the only one who can fight samurai in the earlier game. Kate O'Hara gets Aiko's ability to disguise herself and chat up guards to distract them, etc... And, of course, the core elements of the game - vision cones, bushes, crouching, etc... all work the same as before.

There are some changes. For instance, some maps allow you to walk around certain areas of the map without getting attacked so long as you don't take aggressive actions. But the basic gameplay elements are the same as in Shadow Tactics. Another important change involves knocked out characters. In Shadow Tactics, if you performed a non-fatal takedown of an enemy, then eventually they would get back up. Desperados III allows some of your characters to tie up knocked out characters (which takes time), and then deal with the bound target just as you would a dead body.

I'm four missions in (not counting the tutorial level), and it's a good game so far.

I finally managed to track down a copy of Ring Fit Adventure for the switch. So far I feel like I'm getting just as good of a workout as I would going to the gym (though not quite as good a workout as I got when I had an actual trainer shouting at me to do better).

Overall, this game is solid and I recommend it to anyone who can find a copy.

However, I feel like im kinda done with these kinda ver linear games that just take you from one place to another. I get why they do that, to tell a story. But its boring to me.

Playing Persona 4 Golden on PC now. Didn't know anything about it going in, other than people raving about how it was one of the bestest PS2 games ever and the only reason why people bought a Vita and how awesome it is that Atlus is releasing it on Steam.
Having fun so far. It's weird, but fun.

Was talking to a friend last week about Persona. Seems Atlus was very opposed to the idea of porting games to PC. We both assumed that the Catherine port was a “test drive” for Atlus to see if they have a market on PC, and Persona 4 was later released when the port of Catherine sold well.

Any idea how long Persona 4 is by any chance? Will pick it up either way, but always loved the lengthier or “slow burn” RPGs.

Odd side note, apparently 3 is supposed to be coming out as well?

I cannot say how long 4 is as though I played it a ton on the Vita I never finished - I feel like I had a lot of hours in though and still had many to go. Looking online it seems like anywhere from 60 to 80 depending on how completion-ist your play style is. Also there is new game plus mode etc. that a lot of folks sink more hours into. Definitely a slow burn for sure. For $20 on Steam it is a pretty amazing value for the amount of game there is assuming this is a game type you enjoy.....

The price is in part because it's an older game, and it's difficult to hide that. The original was released on the PS2(!). The Golden was released on the Vita, and I doubt that the graphics were improved all that much. They likely haven't improved the graphics much - if at all - for the STeam release, so they're almost certainly low quality by modern standards.

But they should be more than good enough to allow anyone to enjoy the game.

If it and 3 do well (and I expect 3 will do well - I've got it on the PSP, and it's a good game), then 5 will almost certainly quickly follow. That leaves the original three games (there were two Persona 2 games). Those are all quite a bit different. They're more straightforward JRPG games without all of the innovations that 3 brought to the series. It's an open question whether Atlus will decide to release any of them on Steam, as well.

Maan still on Total War: Warhammer 2 it's addictive as all hell, and I'm on the verge of defeat along with Ulthuan, this game is so much harder that I thought. Naggarond have completed their ritual and is pouring into the heartland from the north and Hag Graef coming from the south led by the Malus Darkblade who instantly respawned after I defeated him at the same level I killed him, the enemy NPCs seem to do this all the time when my characters die I have to get new ones at level 1. So...yeah we're dead lol

Tried out Stadia. On the desktop its amazing. Playing a normally 20Gb download game instantly is nice.

Mobile experience pretty much requires a controller and not all controllers work. Looks like there's some work to be done there. Weirdly, most android specific controllers dont seem to work, but any 2nd gen Xbox one controller does (via bluetooth).

No pixelatization or weird lag spots so far like I saw with the other streaming game providers, but the store is almost entirely AAA action games of one kind or the other. Would have liked a couple turn based games

Minecraftungeons. It's honestly a pretty awesome game. Its got relatively simple, straightforward mechanics, but there's enough permutations that it creates a bunch of depth. And the "No class, only equipment" thing makes it very easy to try out different playstyles or comboes on a whim. Sort of 'Path of Exile', but without the spreadsheets.

And the equipment has nice, straightforwards descriptions of their effects- both in terms of 'what's this do', and in numerics.

I usually pull my animals back to protect them when I get attacked. Got some muffalo for wool, horses for hauling and world map travels and the Thrumbo. Playing in a Boreal forest so need the muffalos for warm clothes. I guess setting the Thrumbo pen by the entrance wouldn’t be a bad idea. Currently have three entrances to my base though two overlap and can be easily defended. I’m not exactly new to the game but I’ve yet to survive past 2 years. Got screwed by radioactive fallout in previous playthroughs and once by my tame boomalope herd catching fire while getting raided and having manhuter cobras eating people in the medical room.

Some more Stardew Valley with a fellow mod. So close to completing the community centre in our first year, most of it is sorted, aside from a ruddy red cabbage that you can't get until the Summer of the second year, or a very lucky cart visit.

Also revisiting Brigador, which put me in a mech game kind of mood, so during the Steam sale I've also picked up the Brigador audio drama, Titanfall 2, BE-A Walker and the non-mecha game, but still one that tickles my sci-fi bone.. Crying Suns.

Still on Total War: Warhammer 2. After the defeat of the last campaign, I decided to have another go of Vortex using Tyrion. Naggarond got way too strong last time so I invaded them, taken most of their northern fiefs including Naggarond itself disrupting their ritual. Naggarond builds their power ridiculously quickly, they owned most of Naggaroth by the time I attacked which was like, 100 odd turns in. I'm hoping that my AI allies will help and they slowly seem to be. Too late to save Nagarythe from being wiped out, though. I bet Alith Anar's campaign is pretty darn hard.

I haven’t tried multiplayer yet, but it seems to be the usual “choose/host a server” type of deal. Seen a lot of videos of a few friends playing together, so I imagine it’s working okay.
I also appreciate your offer for coop! I don’t plan to play online at the moment since I’m still not sure how everything works (steered my first three subs into rocks after just leaving harbor), but maybe we can give it a shot sometime.

I've committed almost every boneheaded thing done in the movies, from splicing dna to creating a new carnasaur exhibit. Sure, a few people got eaten but we are making money, especially in selling Baribsol in the gift shops.

My only complaint is that everyone in the park knows how to do their job except for the rangers. They are union or something because they won't lift a finger without a work order. Lazy buggers.

Also fell in love with the Vampire Coast. Really nailed the pirate feel to a T, and it’s awesome watching all those gunlines going off at once. The easy access to mortars is certainly helping.

Also on prophet and the warlocks dlc it was great fun as ikit klaw. Doom rocket nukes plus weapons teams ftw. A shame the shadow and the blade dlc was kinda disappointed with the skaven assassin. I suppose I was expecting a step up from ikit and his war against everybody but what little I played of the eshin assassin while he is cool his buff vs debuffs for faction items is odd and kinda crappy last I played.

Playing a Gnome Fighter/Illusionist. So far I'm level 6 (in both classes) and I just got out of Nashkel Mines after spending most of my time clearing all the side quests in the areas around it. Haven't really leveraged all my magic as yet but I'm rocking a -5 AC so bar a crit on a Natural 20 I can just walk through most encounters with ease. Not sure how the later game will go as I am determined to max out my levels as much as possible first.

I have Siege of Dragonspear installed so I believe it increases the EXP cap to 500,000 for the first game as opposed to the old limit of 161,000 with Tales of the Sword Coast installed. I also believe its cumulative so I think I can only max out to level 9, but I'm not super sure. As many times as I played through Baldur's Gate I've never tried to do it solo so we'll see how it goes.

It's a fun game, though practical considerations (from an "it was in the movies" standpoint) sometimes mean that you've got some *really* stupid options as head of the park.

Dragonspear doesn't change the XP cap in BG, only in the expansion itself. You're still stuck at 161k max to deal with Durlag's, the werewolves and Sarevok, so you'll cap out at 7th level in both classes. In Siege, you can get to 9/10 (at exactly max XP, which is 500K)

At 6/6 you've got 1 level before you're not progressing any further.

Just picked up a bundle of The Elder Scrolls games on the Steam summer sale. Included Morrowind, Oblivion, and the remastered Skyrim. My feelings after starting with Morrowind are mostly "What have I been missing?!"

Bad graphics, backwards mechanics and putting a rock on your spacebar to level up athletics.

Yeah Morrowind is old and it really shows. I'd look into finding some mods to improve it by getting rid of some of those old systems which were removed from the games which followed, such as letting you run without draining your stamina.

Oblivion has potato people but is much easier to play for someone just trying to get into the series. The levelling system can be a pain, though, and if you don't plan your levelling then you can end up very underpowered against the enemies you face. Luckily you can tweak the difficulty in the options with a slider rather than set difficulty settings so you can balance it for your specific character. There's also a variety of mods out there which can change the levelling system to remove the requirement to plan out all your skill levelling and having to front end your endurance and strength/agility based skills to maximise your health increases on each level up and to increase your damage (strength for melee, agility for archery) and carry weight.

Yakuza 0, only about 7-8 hours in on chapter 2 but loving it so far. I really need to learn my buttons tho for all the mini games. Love the Sega Lands in it. Had to get the ps4 ver tho, couldn't play it on my PC due to the controls, its hard enough to do the mini games, its harder when the buttons don't like up with your control pad, and yes I tried to change them, doesn't change what shows up on screen to push.

Guilty Gear Xrd Sign, love the demo stages, love the graphics and gameplay so far, love the tutorial sections.

SF5 champion edition...meh its alright....I mean it's no Alpha/Zero 2, or SSF2T or even alpha/zero 3/MVC 2, but still SF5CE looks and plays ok I guess.

King of Fighters XIII, looks neat

KOF 98, KOF 2002 millionare, looks neat, takes a while to get used to the SNK controls coming from a SF background.

Battle Garegga Rev 2016.... one of the best shumps out there....just shut up and get it... do it now! M2 needs to see that shump players out there want old games on new systems like ESP RADE, Ketsui, and other CAVE games. (personally i'd love to have a Ibara/Pinksweets and Muchi muchi pork on western psn... please CAVE and sony....please I shouldn't have to set up a japanese psn account to play Ketsui/ ESP RaDE and other cave games on ps4 online.

Castlevania - Rondo of blood and SOTN package, both games are classics whats not to love.

Crimzon Clover... Dojin shump from Yotsubane (aka superplayer from japan) amazing game, so simple yet so complex when you get to unlimited mode. Great if you love bullet hell games ( I DO I DO!)

DoDonpachi (DOJ/SDOJ) best games CAVE has ever made play them...do it NAOOO and get prepaired for pain lots and lots of pain pain pain, you thought darkstalkers/bloodborn where hard HA HA HA they aint got nothing on Dodonpachi and its squeals.

Loving the steam sale on right now, been picking up a few more games, need to give GG xrd rev2 a good honest try.

As Always if you love shumps get the Alltyanx Trilogy games from Siter Skain/Decia games, Kamuii/ Reflex/ Alltyanx second, AMAZING games but the music just blew me away in Kamui really really blew me away.

Oh yeah 'Wrecker' ( I think) its called where you are up in space dismantling old space ships for a multi planet company looks bloody amazing also. its in beta atm, ill wait until the final product tho... and

and

and

Cyberpunks delayed again... imagine that eh? looks great tho although 10 years is a long damn time whats another half year eh?...

Malus, dude... No. Don't do that to Morrowind.

Go for the graphics overhauls, and the one that makes accuracy better (it tweaks to-hits higher so that it seems more hitbox based and less die-roll based). But don't gut the Magicka or Stamina systems. Stamina management especially makes it a much different (and I think in some ways better) game than the later ones.

But if you've come from Oblivion or Skyrim (or most other modern fantasy games) I'd suggest putting those experiences out of your mind for Morrowind.

It is a much more immersive experience in a lot of ways. NPCs are less lively, but have more personality because there's so much more written dialogue than the later games have voice acted- and you're not stuck with the same 5 VAs for the whole thing (aside from basic "hello"s and stuff).

The map and journal system is MUCH more in-depth. You actually have to pay attention to directions, and navigate and orienteer yourself through the landscape, which makes you pay attention to things more- it's a much better way of doing things than the "Tunnel-vision on the waypoint!" method that later games use.

Magic, though less flashy (and mods might be able to fix that), is MUCH more flexible, and can honestly be a little weird. One of the biggest differences is that Enchanted items naturally regenerate their charge, while Magicka naturally does NOT- making even a simple enchanted ring of healing a much more valuable item than it would be in later games.

Oh, and the majority of enchantments are USE enchantments, not constant-effect ones. Any anything can have them. Daggers, rings, boots, belts... So if an enchanted sword says "Demon Katana" that means that you have to activate its enchantment for it to do anything.

But yeah. Slow your roll, don't expect everything to be handed to you, pay attention to what the NPCs say, and you might just fall in love with Morrowind as it is.

If you want to play Morroblivion or Skywind, just get those mods for their respective games instead. Don't do Morrowind dirty like that.

But be prepared to remake your character and start over a couple times before you wrap your brain around the absolutely backwards leveling system.

Basically, any skill that you actually want to use is the worst choice for a primary skill, since you'll be leveling up too fast, and not getting the right attribute boosts maxed out and at the right time.

And you don't want to make stuff you use constantly (because it will level you up when you don't want to). So your primary skills will be the stuff you don't want to use so you can hit the x5 in three attributes and control leveling precisely by the rare use of the skills you don't like and don't want for that character.

They did go to far in stripping the character system down for Skyrim, but there were really good reasons why some change was necessary. And the antithetical-to-roleplaying backwards logic leveling system was the biggest problem.

Having finished TLOU2 my wife and me are going back to the Witcher 3 GOTY. We have already completed main story and the Hearts of Stone expansion, only started Toussaint when TLOU2 arrived.

I also keep playing MTG:Arena. I would never spend money on paper MTG as I consider the business model abhorrent, but as Arena is free to play I keep coming back for some silly and random but quick and fun games of Magic.

I just picked up Doom (2016) on a huge discount. It had my jaw dropping early on with the gruesome finishing moves. It's so damn fun and frustrating. Playing through on Ultra Violence and sometimes it gets a bit hard and I have to take a break. But then I still think about it even when not playing. This is probably the best reboot of a video game ever. Everything is so well done. Just enough story to give you an overall purpose in the background as you just beserker your way through hordes of demons. And the exploration adds to game without being distracting. The combat is so frenetic. And they way you are rewarded with health and ammo for finishing moves encourages you to get up close and personal. And the Doom Marine is awesome when he gets his moments in scripted events. He gives no F's.

Been playing Total Warhammer again. These lizards are driving... me... insane!

All I want is to take Queek and his merry band up north to pick the flesh of vampire bones. It started well, got a good army and stuff. Then Kermit the Magic Frog flips out and sends out waves of lizardmen across the desert. If that wasn’t enough, Kroq-Gar sees this, gets a craving for rat blood, and throws his own Jurassic Park marching band.
We’re now in a three way stalemate between Clan Mors, the vampires of the Silver Host, and Kroq-Gar. The Silver Host have been total bros throughout this mess, and I might just actually spare them. The Tomb Kings have been oddly polite too, despite not helping out. It’s pretty much been a tug-of-war the whole way through though. This back and forth has been going on for hours. It’s turn 100 and I haven’t even left the desert yet.

Joking aside though, it’s kind of a fun situation. Each side has their time to shine and their time to fail miserably. It doesn’t feel one-sided on any side (though I’m surprised the Silver Host are holding out this long).

Beat FFXIII-2. It was pretty good but a bit weird. Has a pokemon mechanic where you go to catch them all. Also, most likely in response, to the criticism that FFXIII was too linear they made this one extremely non-linear. To the point you don't even know where you're supposed to be going or what you're supposed to be doing half the time. It's also pretty endless. Even after you beat it you can keep going and get other different dead end endings just for kicks. It's a time travel game and that stuff usually pretty fun in video games.

That’s... kind of interesting actually. Thought they would double-down on the linearity for the sequel. Do they give you things to do between story beats, such as side quests?

I haven't played XIII-2, but what I've heard matches up with what he describes. It's apparently got a Chrono-trigger-style approach to endings in which the endings can vary wildly depending on your choices during the game.

Also...

Spoiler:
from what I've remember, most of the endings - including the "standard" one - are depressing.

Bah! I was hoping that wasn't the case but I had a feeling it was. Luckily I should be able to still pull it off. I guess you could say that. If you were to see the map it's like a spider-web. You unlock various timelines as you go including alternate timelines. I've put in 60 hours and haven't unlocked every node but that's enough for me. I've probably done about 80% of everything If one wanted this thing could go on a long time.

It's weird. There's one ending....basically. However, there are other decisions and moments in the timeline that if you did something else that would screw everything up. For example killing the final boss too early actually ends up destroying the universe. After you beat the game it basically says, heck might as well unlock those possibilities as well. Some of them are quite dark while others are actually funny.

I have to admit the most addictive part of the game is the pokemon aspect. The 3rd member of your party is always a monster and it can be quite addictive leveling them up.

I want to see how this thing ends so i will do FFXIII-3 one of these days but after about 60 hours of FF I need a break.

Going through Portal 2 again. Apperantly there are community maps? Last time I played was on the 360, so I never got to try the online stuff. It would certainly be a pleasant surprise if there was a mapping community involved as well. Seems Starcraft has a map editor too, so will be curious to see what’s up with that.

After having acquired a new computer, and finding myself at a loss for what to play, I booted up Rome 2 and started a Rise Of The Republic campaign a few days ago. And boy it was a charnel house of a campaign. I spent the first hundred or so turns just fending off a tidal wave of angry Greeks, barbarians, and whatnot. I think I had something like ten battles before I managed to wipe out my two nearest foes. In total, during the campaign, I had about 280 battels and lost six armies due to the amount of people who seem to nuture a hatred for Rome, stragnely enough both Carthage and Estruca chose to ally with me and also wanted trade. Taras and Syracuse where the most trouble to wipe out alongside a few minor nations. But I managed and after those unpleasent wars the rest was far more managebal.

Due to people's advice here I bought Total War: Warhammer on Humble Bundle here and so been playing Mortal Empires as Prince, GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL! (Dragons) Imrik. Especially after watching the Spiffing Brit video on him and, well, tried his campaign but made the mistake of making an enemy of the empire which was fully confederated into Reiksland and/or Bretonnia which had been almost confederated by Couronne, which was a war I couldn't win. Begun playing through it again, but this time bothering with diplomacy so I'm doing much better. I think the best strategy is to go after the main enemy 'sub-faction' or kill off the numerous sub-factions before they can make a confederacy as quickly as you can, then it makes it much harder as they have so many lords united against you, potentially high-level ones too, made veterans from the wars before. The game seems much better without the 'Vortex' stuff, I think.

Yeah. Sub-factions can be easy pickings, but they can also draw out a war for a stupidly long time if they get scooped into a confederation. Dwarves and Lizardmen especially seem to be a nightmare when it comes to confederation. Hadn’t considered beelining for the main faction though. Interesting idea...

I had a few games of baro-trauma yesterday with a friend and i will tell the most interesting story of it.

So we start the mission and have to kill the rebel sub. As it turns out we are each a captain of our own sub and we're supposed to take each other out. The game's a bit slow until we get about halfway to our destination. The enemy sub looked kinda like some walls so i didn't know it was him. We order crew to fire at each other without much effect. I tried to make it so both my guns could fire at his ship while i got his ship stuck. However it didn't feel like i was getting anywhere.

I fully expect at this point to get attacked by him so i equip some weapons to at least to prepare for a boarding action. After this didn't happen and i saw his sub was still stuck i equipped a harpoon gun, a plasma cutter to cut through the enemy ship and much of the gear. Probably a good thing i didn't equip sonar because he might've found me. According to him one of my guys followed me outside in the boarding action and got pureed by one of his sub's guns.

I get to the hatch and destroy it and flood into his ship. I cut through possibly one more door and i come face to face with him where he's on the other side of the closed door. Perhaps in story fashion the enemy captain was always giving orders to others and used to other men taking being directly involved in fights so had no clue wtf to do or what was going on and things such as actual personal combat confounded him. Perhaps the enemy captain was confused wtf was going on or was bemused. Perhaps my sub captain just really wanted the enemy captain's god **** smoking pipe and the smug enemy captain looking comfortable in the helm of the ship just pissed my captain off.

Realistically my opponent couldn't tell it was me and thought i was one of his crew fixing a leak. Of course i wasn't fixing a leak but making it worse . I break the door down to the brig and we all slip and slide around with somebody doing tripping noises and yakkity sax playing in the background. We move around as awkwardly as the puppets moving around in Team America and ragdolls while trying to shoot each other. The fight was more comical looking than anything. I shot at him first with the harpoon gun and then he fired some stray shots at me with a smg. I managed to kill him and flood various compartments on the enemy ship. I only had 20% health left but mission success so far.

I see another enemy crew member start to make their way toward me on his ship and i don't have enough health for such a fight. I flee and manage to get back to my ship. Sadly a lot of my stuff on my ship gets a bit wrecked in the mean time.

As it turns out my guy eventually suffocates because i was wearing my diving suit on the ship and my oxygen tank ran out. I didn't even know this could happen when you're on a ship with air. I needed to be resuscitated by a bot but he didn't take any of my gear off. This means after i came back to life i suffocated again. As it turns out both ship crews perish somehow. Grim dark like 40k (the running out of oxygen bit embarrassing) but perhaps making my opponent lose is a win in itself even if we both lost .

Knee deep in Desperados 3. Think I'm on the 7th mission of 16 total. Been a ton of fun and has me either completely stumped as none of my plans work out at first, then elation as I finally choose the right combo's and such to make my way through a mission. Once I'm done main campaign on second to highest difficulty, I'm going to try another run on the hardest difficulty without killing anyone, if its possible. Or a speed run. Probably a combo of the two.

Edit: Its Commando's set in the Old West, for those not in the know. Made by the same studio that made the excellent Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun a few years back. Highly recommend both games.

It's worked well a couple of times and it worked very well. My current campaign with Imrik and another lord I straight away attacked Grimgor's 'Ard Boyz and didn't let up in my offence until they were wiped out, just utterly crippled the Orks despite my concern that another Ork sub-faction would take its place. My allies just restored the razed fiefs I left in my wake as I don't want to expand too much as in my last campaign that was why Reikland and Corroune decided to invade me. Now the Orks are wiped out entirely due to this. Fun times lol

For past few months I have switched to Two Point Hospital, Path of Exile and some Oblivion.

Loved the Theme Hospital back in the days and Two Point is just about right mixture of nostalcia and something new and addicting. PoE is regular summer game, should finally take the Diablo 3 to task but just have hard time getting around. Especially now that there are these fuckups Blizzard made, ReForged etc.

With Oblivion I finally found a mod that was able to undo the game breaking scaling. Previously at some point the game would just not be fun anymore since everyone had millions of health and did ton of damage. Now there is that feeling of your character actually getting stronger without every encounter ending up filled with too valuable loot to left behind. Still, Oblivion maps are boring as hell.... Maybe by desing?

Been playing Into other waters later. It's quite unlike anything I've ever played. I struggle to even put it in a genre. I very much like it, though this is certainly not for everyone. It's like... marine biology adventure simulator with no graphics? Very relaxing and intruiging. It got me intrested in the creators and after looking into them I found a bunch of games in similar genres. I think I'm going to throw some money their way and see what else they have made.

More Brigador and also some Ghost Recon Breakpoint, they had a special event for the latter, a bit lean on content, but thankfully not an arse to go through to unlock the event items. They've also implemented AI squaddies, but at this point I've already gone through the entire campaign in solo, so a bit wasted on me.

A friend of mine wanted to buy a PS4 ordered one, then also bought and pre-ordered a bunch of digital games to play once it arrived. The store he ordered the console from then refunded his money because they actually ran out of stock and don't know when more will come.

I offered him the use of mine whenever he comes over (which is a lot) and now I get to play all the games he bought as well.

Anyway, Ghosts of Tsushima is super fun, and something I never would have bought on my own as my wife is usually picky about she watches me play, and I don't generally play alone anymore.

Somehow, my Dark Souls 3 saves got wiped. I'm guessing it happened when I upgraded to windows 10. That sucks, as I was on a playthrough where I was trying to 100% complete the game, and was pretty far along. Ah well. Guess I'll start over.

I’ve heard the game has become quite good over the years despite its terrible launch.

Rimworld time, with the new expansion. I really like that the quests have been shaken up. A lot of quests are now in your base rather then out In the world. It makes for a different kind of challenge.

No Man's Sky has seen massive improvements over time, I still need to get into it properly, but some of the early game stuff paired with horrendously clunky menu design keeps me from really getting into things every time I give it a try.

Necrobarista saw its much anticipated release earlier this week, not sure what to make of it, as it is a bit clunky overall.

Well, I have easily dumped 2-4 hours a day into No Man's Sky in the last week. My biggest "oh wow" moment was when I first entered the anomaly and saw the online hub where all the other players were visible. That was really cool. The runner up was when I saw that NPCs walk around and show the appearance of interacting with their surroundings and talking to each other.

Spider-Man on the PS4.

It really is a most excellent game. The various settings are just right, and the web swinging is a thing of wonder!

My favourite tactic for rooftop fights? Kicking the enemy off the top of the building. Allows you to deal with anything except a Brute in just two moves.

Got the week off and decided to have another go at Alien Isolation. The atmosphere and overall concept brings me back but the game itself pushes me away.

The bits that annoys me are Amy slamming the hell out of locker doors like a professional idiot, and a motion tracker that is supposed to be your "best weapon" yet is mostly useless because it attracts the damn thing. The rubber banding of the alien becomes frustrating as you have to keep ducking after a few steps, especially as its a large station with other people to see and harrass but like Pikachu it choses you. The slow slog becomes head bangingly painful when you realise you need to go back into an area you've spent the last half hour slowly escaping from.

Somehow I think some coordination from a team and an open world("open station"?) structure would have worked better here, but considering it was a brave holiday from Quake-style shooters based on ALIENS, Alien Isolation isn't bad as a modern day take on 3D monster maze. Despite its faults, I still return to the game.

My suggestion is either to not be too serious with it and just play for stompy robot action, or else find some friends and make a little squad.

Playing through Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.

Skipped on this during its initial release a few years ago. The original Odin Sphere was a beautiful, but dreadfully boring game that sat on my list of unfinished games I really wanted to finish, but never did, particularly once Muramasa came out and blew it out of the water in the gameplay department. Buying an HD remake seemed kind of pointless.

So.... it's not just a graphical facelift; its a full overhaul of its gameplay and its... fantastic. There's a dodge and block mechanic, air juggle combos and the works all with fast fluid animation and controls. It's so far removed from the slow and clunky combat of the original its basically a completely new and faaaaar better game.

I couldn't imagine paying money for fall guys. especially since it has microtransactions.

That said as a free PS+ game it's awesome and I was very sad that the servers were down yesterday. I feel like we might have another rocket league on our hands. Making something free the moment it launches on PS4 giving a game the player base it needs to be far more successful than it otherwise would have been.

Me and my wife have just finished (?) playing the Witcher 3 GOTY and it was a blast!

Level 53, 167h 40min, all main and side quests finished, 4 failed. Some witcher gear elements still not found.

I played the game when it was first released (my only pre-order ever) and I loved it. Basically destroyed all other cRPGs I had ever had contact with.

Now we had a chance to play the expansions as well, and, boy, that's A LOT of content!!! I didn't check but I'd say 1/3 of the above time spent with the game was with expansions. IRRC they were only 10$ on release but they offer huge areas, long and interesting main storylines and a bucketload of side quests and cool locations.

To be honest main storylines from those expansions were more interesting to me than the one from the main game, fights more challenging, including really demanding boss fights that the main game was lacking.

I'm not a fan of paying money, just so that the game can continue to advertise to me to spend more money so that I can get cool cosmetics. At that point, they should just do costume pack DLC (Which they also have actually) rather than the in-game currencies.

Congrats on finishing W3. I agree it may be the best crpg ever. Also agreed that the two expansions were amazing - easily better story and content than many full games I have played.

Still playing Persona 4 on PC - trying to just about 100% it and nearing the end (December) - amazing amount of game for the money really if you like this style of game...

I think the first part of the statement matters more than the latter. Fall Guys didn't feel like something I would pay for, but if it manages to hold my attention it's probably worth pay for some individuality in the crowd.

Other than those packs, everything can be earned by just playing the game more. You are complaining about something completely optional that is advertised on one single area of the game and not pushed at all.

Makes no sense.

Been messing about with EU IV, despite being 3 DLC and 3 'immersion packs' out of date. It does create some weird gaps, where some old tools for doing things are just gone, and the new ones don't work quite right.

Anyway, being trying to do the vassal swarm as Russia, and its been working absurdly well, but I just fell into an Ottoman trap. They just came out of the Evangelical League war, had 50k troops (I had double that) and were 2800 gold in debt, war exhaustion, etc. First year of the war involved sieges on all fronts that went well, then suddenly 100K men screamed out of nowhere with three different 3-star generals. And any army they touched just disintegrated, and they re-sieged provinces and took them in less than a third of the time it took me to take them.

Annoying.

-----
But, now that Paradox is back from their July vacation, their CK3 coverage is rolling out, and it looks pretty good. (though they need to pace their videos better- they've got a bunch of 5 minute videos by a youtuber where he just rattles verbiage rapid-fire the whole topic and doesn't demonstrate anything on screen. Interesting bits, but too brief, and pretty useless).

They've also (a year later) put up tutorials on Imperator Rome, to go with its new update.

----
Currently pondering the new Battle Brothers DLC, which released today, but not sure I'll stick with it for any length of time.

My suggestion for Skyrim- work to Roleplay in it a little. Like, figure out who your character is, and try and stick to that.

As an example- I have one character who I decided was going to be a Paladin-type. One-handed sword, shield, heavy armor, healing magic. And I wouldn't use 'evil' looking stuff like Daedric or Orcish (I know the Orcs aren't evil, but their stuff is all spikey). And honestly? Limiting myself like that made the game so much more enjoyable, even though I'd played it over and over again before.

It takes a few tries to get a feel for it, especially as you'll discover more and more upgrades and super abilities.

I mainly managed to beat the game because I got lucky when I played as a Huntress with seven or so syringes that boost your attack speed, allowing me to really spam my primary attack while staying mobile. Sometimes stacking the same item can be a good thing, like the fireworks, one time I had twelve of those, so whenever I opened a chest, it was beautiful, not to mention a powerful bonus attack.

Oh, absolutely. I've played a lot of Slay The Spire, I get the idea of building a nice broken combo to run with... my problem is usually that I can't find the gear I need to make that happen in time. Either I'll be running around with loads of gold and nothing to spend it on but having difficulty finding the teleporter - or I'll have loads of gear around but not the gold to unlock it. Meanwhile while I'm attempting to explore and fix either of those situations, that difficulty timer is ticking up and I can't do anything to scale with it.

...I'll get there. Just need to get familiar enough with the maps to know where the teleporter can appear and the hidden places that aren't easy to spot.

Teleporters can somewhat easily be found by checking if there are any coloured particles (usually red) in the air, those are always near one.

The randomness of what items you get can kill things. They've implemented a scrapping mechanic which turns a random item into scrap which will sometimes take priority when you find an item printer, but so far, no luck here.

I got Total War: Troy on the epic game store during their give away, and after several hours I can safely say that this is the dullest Total war to date, no variations in units, a very lacking musical score, and worst of all its just not fun. While it looks good and is surprisingly stable for a CA game that just was released. They do deserve credit for making a good religious system that makes sense game-wise, even if the god specific mythical units lack enough punch and flair to stand out. I hope with more content and mods that the game can improve and reach a better state that will appeal to me more. So hold of unless you are a die-hard CA fan or need that Bronze age fix satisfied.

Fun fact: the devs accidentally lowered the difficulty when it first got into Early Access. They soon realized this and wrote a small note saying “WHOOPS! Guess we forgot to turn up the difficulty. Guess we’ll just fix that...” A friend and I were there to experience it, and the difference was practically night and day.

Great game though! Surprisingly good transition from 2D to 3D, without removing the feel of the first one. They really give you a lot of tools to explore the maps (try sprinting with 20 energy drinks), and it feels cool seeing how different bits of equipment work differently for different classes.

One of the youtubers I watch is a classical 'expert' so spent a lot of time obsessing about little errors in TW: Troy, but he did have one interesting point on the religious system- it should allow for negative values. Offending the gods (or rather, an individual god), was a huge aspect of Ancient Greek stories. The fact that you can't hack of Hera by praising Zeus to much, offend Aphrodite or whomever means a big loss of flavor/story potential.

Apparently also chariots are absurdly broken as the only heavy charge unit. Watched lionheartx10 pick up two basic chariot units in his Achilles game, and they basically slaughtered there way through the opposing army, 300+ kills each, broke units in record time.

But of course, for me, the Epic exclusive is the big error here. And if Warhammer 3 is out by the time it isn't exclusive anymore, I doubt I'll touch it all.

Onto Blaz Blue: Continuum Shift on my laptop and working to unlock all the sweet sweet art and stuff. Enjoying it a lot, although when I reach the last boss in Arcade mode it's against their Unlimited version which is basically a 'super mode' it takes so many tries it makes me want to bash my head against a wall. Also realised that I own Continuum Shift not just on PC but on PS3 and 3DS I'm such a fanboi lol. The 3DS port is surprisingly great, actually. Also, there's one level where you fight and it has this damn dog in the damn background who won't stop its incessant barking, so annoying especially when losing.

Still fighting lizards in Total Warhammer. Is Kroq-Gar usually a monster in combat? This guy has been bad news since day one. I have to throw about three or four units of clanrats into the lawnmower to hold him back and this is if he is alone and surrounded. Last fight, I had to take down literally every other unit to get his morale to start seriously decreasing.

Highlight of the series for me. After this the cast got kind of unweildy and they lost a good way to repeat the multiverse gimmick to make the story interesting. The rest of the games are still excellent, but it peaked here for me.

After spending a good 6 months playing Dark Souls Remastered with multiple NG+ and PvP sessions... I decided to jump to Dark Souls 3.

I'm a victim of my own success from Remastered as I'm sure I'm waaaaaaaay too deep in Souls 3 with such a low leveled character, as such I'm getting spanked every 5 minutes. I'll probably spend the weekend replaying from the beginning to grind out more souls.

While I haven't played the sequels yet, I did feel Continuum Shift was so good that it would be a hard act to follow.

Tried out Persona 4. Expected something grim and horrifying, but was hit with a comfy OP and difficulty settings telling me to ‘relax’ and ‘enjoy’. Definitely getting Diamond is Unbreakable vibes from the looks of things too. This might kind of be the JRPG I’ve been looking for.

Only issue is the crashing. Seems to do this a lot, especially when changing location. Anyone found a fix yet?

Yeah, surprised to find this on the store’s main banner. Was the “Ultimate Edition” a hotly anticipated release or something?

Persona games deal with disturbing topics, and are pretty serious. But the "slice of life" elements introduced starting in the third game distract from the serious elements- such as the fact that you're (not really) shooting yourself in the head each time you cast a spell in the third game.

Your party is a group of teenagers attending a normal high school in Japan. And the games run for an extended period of time. Teenagers have fun. If the game doesn't show that, it's missing the mark.

It's been random as to who has what problems with the P4G port. Either you have crashes, stuttering cutscenes, both, or no problems at all. I was in the "no problems at all" camp, but my current PC was built this year so it's still a fairly clean machine with good hardware in it. Anyway, there is some darkness to the game in some spots, but it is fairly lighthearted most of the time, and very fun. I'd never heard of it until the surprise PC release, and now it's in my top 10 games of all time. Also, Yukiko is best girl.

Control has been an Epic exclusive for the past year, it's new to Steam. So there was that bit of anticipation for the Steam release. However, this also includes the AWE expansion (released this week), which in itself has been very much anticipated as it incorporates Alan Wake into the Control universe. I've started a new playthrough of Control to experience the game all over again (and see how the early game is like now that I "know everything"), and play the expansions.

Huh. I guess I was just thrown off by 6 months of advertising popping up in the feature box. I'm more used to Steam burying Epic exclusives.

The Epic store was only launched in December 2018, and the exclusives came a little later after that... so we're only just now starting to see a whole bunch of them pass their one-year mark. Metro Exodus and Borderlands 3 I think from memory were the first AAA titles off the conveyor belt. Me? I'm just waiting for Untitled Goose Game, What The Golf and Tetris Effect.

As for right now, I've started playing Alien: Isolation again but this time round in VR (using the "Mother" mod to do so, it's not natively supported). Gotta say I'm really glad I played it through normally first, it's scary enough when I kinda know what's coming in the plot as it is...!!

P4 Golden was my first foray into the Persona series and its ending definitely gave me the post-game blues for a good week before I was able to shake off the melancholy.

Glad you had a great time with it! Super glad to see more people getting to experience it since it was ported to PC.

Recently platted Nioh and I'm playing around with Dreams at the moment, definitely an underrated game given how much crazy stuff people have made with it.

Played a game of warhammer 40k gladius with a friend today. He was playing nids and i played imperial guard (probably genestealer cults). After 2 days of gaming we managed to beat all of our opponents. His nids were engaged longer but this time I had a lot more leman Russ tanks. Sadly I couldn't get my baneblade to the front in time to use it.

Our last 3 computer opponents were defeated within a few turns of each other. It was hard ai difficulty if I recall and we had average difficulty on our armies' handicap. I feel like I helped him a lot more but this time I let him stay engaged with more enemies simultaneously. I did save him from an early ork opponent that was giving him trouble.

I find it a bit funny that when I finished off the 2nd ork enemy and engaged the other enemies we had we just rolled over them like it wasn't that big of a deal. Leman russ and leman Russ commanders are really potent. Vehicle heavy guard is ridiculously stellar but the infantry are a bit weak even with rockets.

He had a better score but I don't understand how scores are calculated. My tank commander with tanks deathball just ran over enemy armies with very minimal losses esp. Because of techpriests repairing said vehicles.

A bit more advanced then the previous game, and kind of repetitive. Granted, I'm just running and gunning and not really using my abilities/perks. Its definitely a challenge at the second to highest difficulty, but proper use of stat progression mitigates most of the difficulty. Plus the game has an annoying console-ish auto "saving game" sign when you enter certain areas, so you know a battle is coming.

Its been alot of fun.

Rather enjoyed the first one. Didn’t have the same black comedy as Fallout, but there was kind of a comfy isolation feeling to it. Kind of liked the pulp-y feel to it too, with the cyborgs and all that. Does the third game have a similar feel to the first one?

Really enjoying Control, nice blend of story, setting and action for me, but then again, this is Remedy we're talking about here who have their own way of telling a story, even throwing in short live action segments and low budget puppet(!) shows. Only thing I'm missing is a Roy Orbison song at this point.

Also noticed that a demo for Rift Breaker has been released almost a month ago with little to no fanfare, so gave that a try as well. A bit clunky, but I'm looking forward to the full release whenever it happens.

After re-watching Sseth Tzeentach's review of it, I downloaded Underail again. Hard as hell, but by the Emperor is it an awesome, immersive CRPG. My build is a smooth-talking, agile, dextrous, stealth assassin hand-to-hand combatant and critical hits. Trying to go with hit-and-run tactics eg: sneak behind an enemy ranged combatant, kill them with a few swift punches then dash away so my character is out of range of any other close combatants (perhaps leaving caltrops behind him) then when they run after him, he turns back, kills one then takes on any remaining enemies (which isn't working too, too well, but I think it could work at higher levels when his movement is higher and he has more traits) I used a similarish build in my 1st playthrough and managed to get through the infamous "Depot A" area after much trial and error so I think the build's pretty viable.

I beat Wasteland 3. Pretty close to a masterpiece, but they got a few key things wrong in my opinion.

In no particular order:

-No sense of danger. Your dudes don’t die permanently.
-You can scratch build an entire squad to min/max your needs. Which I guess is fine, but it weirdly made me not want to try another playthrough as a different build of character as skill checks are party based.
-When you do take any of the Colorado denizens in your party, the only difference is they just talk a bit. Aside from one, who is crucial in a certain portion ofthe end game.
-I don’t want to spoil anything, but towards the end you are given some choices that are kind of no win and just felt cheap. I journeyed with 2 Colorado characters throughout the game, and they saw some horrific things and that counted for nothing in the end when it came time to make a decision. No skill checks to change opinions, no reward for unlocking some quests that led to some shocking revelations, just a binary decision and boom. Literally boom in 2 cases.
-Stealth is garbage. Really only need the Sneaky gak skill for alarms.
-Not enough perks. There were alot of “I guess I’ll take this one.” If my dude was a primary shotgun user, I don’t want options for SMG perks. Give me a shotgun equivalent of that SMG perk.
-Money was never a problem. I hate that in post apocalyptic games.
-Endgame felt rushed, and considering thats where I experienced the most game stopping bugs, I suspect it was.
-Load Times. Particularly annoying as you have to travel through multiple zones and back again for quests.

Seems like a lot after having written it down, but I enjoyed this game alot. 8/10.

Still on UnderRail, it's very addictive as hell, love it. My build is almost reached its potential now I don't even need the caltrops or explosives...Mostly. Currently doing the quest with the 'Dude' who isn't just a reference to The Big Lebowski (he even once says 'Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.') He's also a dimensional hopper who's taking me along for the ride, we're stuck in a Serbian military base of 'The Gray Army' and slaughtering my way through every soldier in my way, died though due to miss clicking, I wish the game didn't just use left-click most of the time as it's led to some mistakes. Great game, though. My normal tactic now is to sneak up on a few enemies, throw a flashbang, kill one in hand to hand combat or failing at that stun them. Then kill them the next turn or move on to another one. It's pretty OP, in all honesty.

Been playing the DBZ Xenoverse 2. Was pleasantly surprised. I’m a sucker for flashy yet simplistic combat, but I have always it found it too easy. This seems to get the balance a bit better. Nice to have a fighter game where you can make your own character too, including a Buu knock-off or something from the Freiza race.

Saw the show once with none of the movies nor Super, so I was surprised to find some characters I had never heard of. Seems the storyline is briefly going through the main fights in the saga, so hopefully it gives a bit of detail on what’s up with their deal.

Back into Breakpoint, for what looks to be the last DLC and probably the final part of the story, but at least it looks and feels chunky enough, with ten targets to hunt down and new kit to collect in the process.

The new Pathfinder class is interesting and has some fun mechanics attached to it, I can see it be a fun thing to use in coop sessions. It won't supplant the Panther class for me, but it's better than the Engineer and Echelon in my opinion.
