Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/05/27 00:02:28

Post by: IceAngel

First game of 40k 7th edition was played today. We played an orks versus tyranids battle. We used the new objective stuff that changes every turn. That really brought a neat element to the game. It was funny watching my overall strategy change from turn to turn as the objectives dictated what I should do to score points. We played a 1500 point game. Thoughts so far, I'm REALLY glad they brought back the psychic phase. I love the fact that both sides are involved during the psychic phase. With that in mind, I should mention that I forgot to bring a weird boy so the psychic phase was weight HEAVILY in my opponents favor. He also had a total of 5 bonus dice during the psychic phase.

Fun moments in the game. My entire unit of nobz getting run down by his genestealers. His raveners scattering 10 inches during their deep strike and dying from the mishap table. One ork boy making three 6+ saves in close combat versus a brood lord. The boys mob then finished what the nobs failed to do, they killed every genestealer and the brood lord.

We ended up playing 4 turns before we had to stop and he had to leave but my first impression of 7th is good. Having played every edition of 40k, I can comfortable say that the rules are written in a very clear fashion unlike many of the previous editions. It seems they actually thought a bit more about what they were doing before they released the set. BTW, have you guys looked up night fighting? OMG! So much simpler.

On another note, playing 40k again has reinvigorated my urge to paint and model. Maybe someday I'll post a picture of a WIP.

After reading several articles online, I have noticed several people complain about blaring issues with demon summoning and of course the unbound stuff. I think with some realistic house rules they can easily be curbed. 7th edition for tournament play may be a nightmare for the immediate time being until we all master the new rules but that should be expected. I love reading these articles and seeing all the people mention, "their just trying to sell more models," of course they are! Last I checked they were a business! lol.

Any ways, I'm home sick for the day so I think I may attempt to get some modeling or some writing done. Not until after my first nap though.

7th is by far some of my favorite rulings. I like what they are doing with the general rules. The missions/armies are the only thing getting out of hand.

I HAVE RETURNED!

I'm not sure what happened but I had the sudden urge to break out the paints and slap some models with it. Of all the things I needed to paint I went for the one that I had almost forgotten about. The Sanguinary Guard. I don't have any Ice Angel sanguinary guard nor have I ever written about them. This is new territory for me. I thought about the current schemes, the ridiculous gold and what not. I don't think that would work well for my army. I currently have a lovely collection of black armored guys along with a white armored death company. How can I make the Sanguinary Guard stand out?

I decided to go with a nice frosty Ice Blue. Pictures will arrive shortly, but in the mean time I still have a pair of primed wings ready to get some love. What color should I make them? Black or white perhaps? More blue? Hmmmmmmmm, I think I'll finish up the body and see what you guys think. In the mean time, I'd love to hear some of your suggestions.

Excellent. I can't wait to see your take on the SG.

Post by: Ramos Asura

I quite like that idea. Especially with the librarians in your story focusing on icy powers, I think a frosty color would really suit the SG. Sort of like their armor is covered with a near permanent haze of frost, or something of that sort.

As to the wings, Perhaps white with a light wash of blue in the recesses? That would make it stand out but at the same time look cohesive with the rest of the mini.

Seconded.

As the rest of the Army is black-clad, and the SG in light blue, it would help tying them to the other Marines, while making a sharp contrast with their light armour

Ice Blue (Yes I'm calling it that ) with black wings with a white spot color is a direct invert of your terminators, I think it would look pretty good. Make it so.

Okay, here is my WIP sanguinary guard. Looks terrible so far, but there is still much to do.

Wings and jump pack are only primed black, no photo of those yet.

About a week ago I had to do some furniture rearranging which meant I had to move some of my 40k display stuff. While I was at it I took a picture of the entire Ice Angel 10th Company.

That is the entire company minus the vehicles and a tech marine. While I was organizing all of that I noticed that I only have two techmarines, and three chaplains, yet I have seven priests. That may have to be corrected sometime down the road, at least the chaplain ratio.

Blue looks good, I'd go one shade lighter to highlight, but great start.

As for the wings .. I would go white transitioning into black as it gets to the tips.

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/07/17 16:17:17

Post by: Yggdrasil

I think it's nice for a start too... If you push the highlight to pure white, I'm sure you can get a surface that looks like it's made of pure ice !

Yeah, the blue looks good so far, and you have the skills to do great work with it. The wings are going to be where the real fun is (for me). I had a ton of fun painting those.

Post by: IceAngel

Thanks guys. Solar, I think that is an excellent idea, but I'm not sure I'd do that after already priming them black. We shall see. I think the plan is to complete the body fully before tackling the wings. Here are some more WIP pics. Sorry for the crappy lighting, but you may still at least get hte idea.

I've done some highlighting. What do you think? Should I highlight even more?

MORE WIP. I added in more white. I started on the scroll work. Hit the model with some silvers and some reds. Still much more to do. Still undecided on the wings too. I've been checking out images of various bird wings. I'm thinking about doing some sort of pattern or two toned look on the wings. I've seen lots of birds with black wings and white edges or vice versa. There are so many to look at! It's kind of neat actually. The more I look though the more I think I don't want any prevalent color on the wings though.

Thoughts?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh one more thing. Gun color? Keep it dark or bring it to white? OR make it blue like the rest of him? As I stare at my pictures I think I'd almost rather keep it black or make it blue like his armor. I like the only points of other color being the blood drop lets. More thoughts?

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/07/20 18:11:08

Post by: Yggdrasil

That looks great for now !

As for the gun, I'd say keep it black for a quick contrating point, and being black it won't add another "colour" to the wheel...

Or how about matching the highlights on the gun with the ones you'll come up with on the wings ?

Stay frosty

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/07/20 21:58:42

Thats looking really nice, Ice. Very frosty scheme. Black gun'd be my vote, too, though Yggs does bring up an interesting idea with matching it to the wings.

Now that the Destiny Beta is over I am now fully engaged to fiddle with my wings. I think I've devised a plan of attack on the wings but now I am debating on whether or not the actual jump pack engine part thing should be blue like the rest of him or darker, like the wings will be. Thoughts?

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/07/29 08:23:49

Post by: Yggdrasil

I think the Jump Pack should be like the rest of the armour, thus blue...

Also, what did you think about Destiny ? Looks fun (I've only played 3-4 hours), but I'm afraid we'll have to FARM a lot to get nice items... Still unconvinced :\

Post by: IceAngel

Yggs, I really enjoyed Destiny. I don't think I've ever played an MMO that didn't have some level of farming. A unique feature about destiny was that the more you used your weapon the more customizable it became. I really liked that feature.

I think Destiny is very fortunate with its timing. There aren't any other games coming out in the near future that have as much hype. I will be playing it for sure. I just hope it has enough content to sustain itself. I know they plan on making it a long term game with a lot of content to be added in the future but PVP gets old quickly. The exploring and campaign excite me much more. I think my biggest complaint is the small number of friends you can bring with you on the campaign missions. 1-3 seemed rather odd to me.

I did enjoy the little PVP that I did play. Multiple different vehicles and turrets and a plethora of maps.

As for the Sanguinary Guard. Blue jump pack it is.

Only suggestion is to do the Scroll across his chest piece in a parchment color. break up all the blue and white and draw the eye to the center.

That does look rather good. I really like the gradiant of blues. Before the Red he was almost monochromatic! Which I thought was kinda neat.

What'd you think of the Destiny Beta? Were you on PS4 or XBone?

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/08/03 00:32:30

Post by: IceAngel

Thanks guys! @chemical. Now that you mention the monochromatic thing, I have a surprise for you guys. It's not ready but I think you'll really like it. Back to your question though, I picked up an xbox one. I really enjoyed the destiny beta. One of my biggest problems with the xbox one so far is the complete lack of games or content for it. Titanfall was fun but quickly got old. The number of downloadable games on the system is some where around five. Once more games are out and they fix a couple of minor bugs, I'll probably go back to loving my xbox like I did my 360. I just bought mine a bit to early in the console cycle. Sorry, that turned into a rant, but back to your question once again. Destiny will be awesome assuming they have the content to sustain it. I am a co op gamer. I could care less about PVP. If there is as much to do as they are leading me to believe then I think it'll be the one game I'll be playing for quite some time. I was excited about the game even before the beta but after playing it, I am even more excited. They made lots of great decisions about both the larger and the smaller picture. There is definitely something for everyone.

Any one else get any beta time in?

Post by: Ramos Asura

That looks great, Ice! The red really makes him shine.

I almost want to say paint some Gold areas on him, though, like the wings on his shoulder, though Im unsure how to go about doing that without potentially unbalancing the mini!

Even sans gold, I cant wait to see a full squad of these guys!!

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/08/05 22:19:52

Post by: Solar_lion

I'd pass on the gold. The red breaks up enough. Gold I think will break it up too much and mess with the ice cold look. IMO.

Post by: IceAngel

Thanks everybody for the tips and suggestions. I'm happy with how he has turned out. I think I'll keep him sans gold. We can reevaluate when the whole squad is put together.

I've gotten all of the other members all primed up and ready. I did discover that I am without a jump pack. I have the wings but not the actual engine part of the back pack. That is my next project. Locate jump pack.

Help needed!

I have been in a building mode as of late. All of my plastic guys went together easily and perfectly. My freaking resin forgeworld guys, as awesome as they are, are being a huge pain in my rear. I have four or five different glues at my disposal and none of them seem to get a long with resin. What glue do you guys use on your resin models?

Currently I've had mediocre success with some gale force nine hobby glue but I have to let each bond sit over night before I can go on to the next piece, which means I have to find a way to balance the model just right so that the pieces stay in place. Suggestions please.

Thanks in advance.

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/08/19 02:26:12

Post by: whalemusic360

With the super slick mold release forgeworld uses are you cleaning them first? Some dish soap and water is enough.

Scoring the points where they contact helps, but isn't needed on lighter models like power armor.

I use loctite from the hardware store. Gel ultra control. Sets in a few minutes. Holds resin, metal and plastic.

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/08/19 02:52:14

Post by: Ramos Asura

As WM mentioned, its super important to wash them if you arent already. I let mine soak for a few hours in lukewarm water + a bit of dish soap. Then its off to the sink with a toothbrush!

Ive had great success with Gorilla Super Glue. That stuff is super strong! On top of that, roughing up the bonding surfaces helps for a better bond. Even scraping it with the side of a knife blade helps by removing any pockets of bonded mold release. I'll usually pin all my resin/metal stuff, too, but its really not necessary.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I've decided to reward you with some WIP pictures of what I've been putting together and basing and so forth etc.....

Many of these were built by Moonpie, i just cleaned them up and based them and drilled barrels etc...

These are some of the marines I've been putting together. I wanted them to be a bit more cinematic then usual. The guys without back packs will have jump packs. The one armed guy is waiting for his bolter to dry.

Now all I need is some new primer!

To celebrate Grot Labor Day, GLD from this point forward, I went ahead and completed my unit of kans. I present to you, Grotholamew and Grothomas.

Grotholamew was a quiet little greenskin that spent most time licking mold off the dark side of rocks and guessing how many ammo casings he could shove up his nose. That all change though when Lil'Mek Orkstein got a hold of him. The mek decided to try out some of his new cybork parts on some smaller grots first. What better way to see how morky or gorky they were?

When the experiment was over, Grotholamew was turned into a raging kan that wanted nothing more then to kill and maim everything he could see.

Grothomas on the other hand was a twitchy grot that spent most of his time running from larger greenskins. One of his favorite games was to toss clamp squigs onto greenskins while they slept then run away laughing. Grothomas thought he was good at the game until Orkstein got a hold of him too.

Now Grothomas runs towards whatever he wants with little disregard for whatever is in his way. He even has his own clamps now!

Here is a picture with everyone together. That'll bring the kan collection up to 9. Once painted there will have to be a group shot for sure.

Happy GLD everybody! I hope you are all relaxing, laughing, and eating something grilled. I know I am. I have some ribeye's waiting to be consumed.

40k! Models, plastic, space marines, blood angels, ice angels GO! I need to get my head back into things over here. Besides Destiny being way to much fun. I have also been hooked into X-Wing. We had a great 280 point 7 person game the other day. Rebels for the win! Well, at least we were winning when we ran out of time.

On the 40k front. I have some jump packs and bits to sort through. I have yet to pick up any more primer, which I desperately need to do. I also have some things to ship out to Whale_music. I'm hoping some of these things will bring back the motivation to get back into the painting and modelling spirit. I think the primer is going to be the key.

It took me three years and a State Trooper threatening to steal my car to get my license and registration renewed..

I finally bought some primer. Woot!

In gaming news i had a fun game with moonpie and another friend of ours. Moonpie brought about 2200 points of his wolves. I brought 1200 points of tyranids, mostly proxies for the new models that have been arriving recently. Our friend ralf brought 1000 points of orks which was in the firm of a stompa and some grots.

The two of us fought moonpie in a straight fight. No objectives just kill. The game was a lot of fun. Moonpie did manage to take out the stompa but not before he lost most of his army to it.

I wish i can say i got a good feel for the new nids but they didn't do as much due to poor reserve rolls. The new drop pods are great. The mucolid spore mines are definitely worth the points. I recommend some of those for sure. I still like the mawloc. It had an amazing opening attack.

Any ways, if the weather cooperates i may get to prime. The forecast doesn't look promising though. Pictures once it happens.

Today I managed the paint for the first time in months. It was a small amount but it was progress. Pictures will arrive in the near future. In the mean time I have been enjoying the Shield of Baal stuff. The new Nids are neat. It makes me want to pick some of them up for sure. Before I do though, I need to get through this mountain of plastic that has slowly been growing. Sitting to my left is about 25 Ice Angels all primed and ready to go. It is an interesting collection of marines. Everything from the remaining Sanguinary Guard to a space hulk terminator to some forgeworld apothecaries. It's time to get crackin!

I still got out to play a game at the GW store, but I wouldn't have made GMing. I would have lost my voice and started coughing or something awful.

Are you planning on painting that as a Blood Angels banner or Ice Angeling it up? For my two cents, I think it would be cool if it was a relic banner from the original Chapter, so you could have it all red or whatever. I see the blood drops are red. I like that.

I think the banner is almost completed as is actually. I like the idea of it being an ancient Blood Angel banner, perhaps from some obscure company like the 186th or something. I wanted to do a sort of gray scale with it, the only color being the blood droplets. It will be carried by one of my sanguinary guard and they already have a very limited color palette. If I went to crazy with the banner I didn't think it would match the attire of the unit.

Solar_lion wrote:Some serious CC attitude on your Sergeant. I like the different color purity seals.

I am glad you like him Solar. He became a sergeant after spending decades in one of the Ice Angel veteran squads, each squad has picked its own color and symbol, such as the Uttuakki

or the Ashurbani

His unit is yet to be named but they were the "green" squad, as you can see.

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/12/22 01:34:16

Post by: IceAngel

That detachment is great and all but a lot of points just to get a charge from deep strike. I need two more ravens just to pull it off. I certainly have more then enough tactical marines. Wouldn't that be over 1000 points just to get the three tac squads and ravens? You fill out the rest of your points with a normal detachment right? So you'd have two cheap scout squads, an HQ, and then whatever you want to pull off that charge with one of which would have to be an elite choice. In a typical 1500 or even 2000 point game that seems a bit restrictive. Now if we start talking more then 2k things would start to get a bit more exciting in my opinion.

Now, I should probably add in to this that I actually haven't read the detachment myself this is just from what I've gathered from the webs. Once I see it, I'll let you know how I feel for reals.

HAve you gotten through the BA book yet. Thoughts? I thought they made them compatable with all the other recent Codex's. Very bland. In my one game using them they did make for a good game of Marine Vs. Marine. Against other races. I have my doubts.

I have ordered the Codex but it hasn't arrived yet. I'll let you know as soon as i get some games in. I've been reading add much as i can online but it's not nearly the same as having it in your own hands and making your own decisions. I am a bit bummed about losing my assault troopers as a troop choice but i do like some of the new stuff. I may be bringing the death company a bit more that's for sure.

Did you bring the death company in your game?

No I only have 5 DC marines .. I'll need more to pull off a good DC unit. They are a bit expensive to kit out with CC weapons so I'll have to do some playtesting to see what works. Luckly I play against marine players so it will be a good even test.

I think the most avantage for using the BA codex lies in the new formations. Sadly this seems the new path of GW.

I await your thoughts.

MORE WIP! This time here is some of the guard that is carrying the banner. He still needs some wings and some back pack love but he is coming along. I took some pics of the completed sergeant too but they didn't turn out very well. I don't have great lighting on my desk.

@sockwithaticket - I agree completely! That is why there is another one sitting on my desk. I don't know why but I have a whole assortment of weird armed marines in front of me. Oh well.
@Solar_lion - Only 5 death company? Preposterous! How can a LAMENTER player such as yourself not have a whole hoard of death company? I know my Ice Angels have more then enough. Please let me know how your future battles turn out. I'd love to compare notes.

I don't really understand why people are so down on the whole formation thing. I think its cool and not a new path in the least. Did any of you play EPIC or Space Marine or Titan legion? In that game your entire army was built from little white card board cards, each one would have a titan on it or a detachment, or an assortment of figures not unlike the formations they are now creating. I find it incredibly amusing that so many people dislike this "new" direction yet its really just a revisit to a previous idea. If anything GW is going back to the good old days. How many old models have they recreated? Knights, contemptors, robots, haruspex, harridan, exocrine, the list is extensive and impressive. No other gaming system has this kind of depth that it can revisit old stuff decades later. The more I type about it the more I realize how awesome it is. How many gaming systems are out there that have the "winning" meta crutch that everyone plays?

Magic tries to counter act it by dropping the ban hammer on cards that dominate the game. Or create cards specifically to disrupt the winning combo. I feel like GW just laughed at the thought and decided to flood the system with so many rules and models and combos that it is impossible to have that meta power house or truly fathom what all is out there. Personally, back in 5th edition or older I could cite the rules for nearly any model or weapon in the entire game. Now I can hardly keep track of what my own is capable off let alone the hordes of other things.

Enough of that talk though, we all have our opinions. For me I play the game for the memorable moments and the hobbying side of things. Winning or loosing really isn't relevant. *unless I'm playing moonpie, then his space puppies must be DESTROYED*

I just noticed that my banner is missing its topper. Hmmmmm, I wonder where that went. TO THE BITZ BOX!

The banner is looking stellar Ice. Love the varied intensity reflection... very appropriate for silk (or whatever they're using for banners in the 41st millennium).

I just find the whole formation thing very confusing... needlessly in my mind. I'm not saying it's bad... I just never know what the hell is going on and it pretty much guarantees my opponent is going to out-build me because there's no way I can understand what I can get... much less what they've got.

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2014/12/31 15:22:48

Stellar banner my friend!

Formations seem to be the new way to get your fluff on.. Instead of including ' chapter tactics' like rules for races or Chapters they roll out formation that allow you to use those rules only if you take x, y, and z.

I get the plug and play aspect of the formations but unless your playing a large game ( 2000+ pts) your limiting your choices or more importantly having your choices made for you in order to take what I consider a ' chapter tactic'.

Some will say.. ' Play Unbound' but then you don't get the special rules. I'd rather see a more open style of play as well as more unique and meaningful specific race or chapter tactic than plug and play formations prizes.

Add the fact that the new campaigns series ( SW and now the BA ) includes formations not accessible in the normal codex, forcing you to purchase the book or supplement. If you play against a variety of armies you would be hard pressed to stay up to date on all your opponents formation ( or in the case of the Nids – New models not in the main codex) . However; a great business model. Tie that Box set with only 1 or 2 new models and your not spending much to produce it. = nice profit.

2 cents.

I went back and went through my P&M blog. I built a lot of things this year but didn't get to do nearly as much painting as I would have had liked. Other then my Adepticon Army, I only painted up one sanguinary guard marine, five terminators, and a random assortment of Ice Angel tactical / assault marines. I did make a display board this year and after Adepticon repainted the whole thing. That was nice.

I think my goal in 2015 is going to get more paint on my models. I have the two dozen marines on my desk and a horde of green skins to paint. Let's see how many of those I can get through this year.

I hope all of you had a wonderful New Years Eve. I had a great one playing King of Tokyo with some friends. Good luck with all of your resolutions everybody.

As much as I like painting orks Solar, I think my quest to get some Ice Angels completed is a much more dominant feeling at this time. I did complete that chain fist sergeant. Pics will be soon. I'm trying to get that banner wielding guard done today too. Then It looks like I have an assault marine next up in line.

I have also been reading through the blood angel codex. I think overall I like it. I was a bit surprised that there really wasn't anything new in it but with the new release schedules they could drop a new blood angel thing at any time which I'm cool with. Solar, I'll try to give you a more detailed synopsis of the codex when I get a game in.

By the way, I think I'll be able to make it up for Adepticon. This time I'm bringing the Ice Angels. It is about time they see their own MOAB.

Okay, the Guard is done except the banner topper. The picture color is a bit off, no natural light at the moment

Here is the squad thus far.

Question: The axe wielding guy, (I love that axe btw) has a winged skull on the blades, should the wings be blue like everything else or red like the rest of the blade?

In between these guys I also hit up an assault marine and another sergeant. I took a picture of the assault marine but the pictures are really blurry. Not a good camera day apparently.

He still needs his base to be completed. Some washes and touch ups, but you get the idea with him. Nothing too dramatic.

Very nice Ice. As to the axe... kind of depends on how obvious you wanted it to be. I'd paint it a different color so it would stand out. Because I'm an idiot and would forget that axe was there once the game got going.

We have some wings. I'm hoping to get another good chuck of painting in this weekend.

I do have a very important decision to make. Do you guys remember these guys?

They are on deck after the guard are completed. My question is though, what color should i paint the wall? That may seem like a minor problem but then I started thinking about it. What ever color I paint that wall, will probably match a building and what ever color I paint a building may match the neighborhood. Now, given the fact that i have some ruins already but no buildings I have been debating about doing something a little different then the usual greys everyone paints their ruins and buildings. Green or purple, perhaps yellow.

SO the big question of the day, what color should my collection of damaged buildings be? Keep in mind my board looks like this,

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2015/02/21 19:36:47

Post by: moonpie

Pink.

Heh, the lazy fart in me says black/dark gray or metal, so we could bang out the terrain quickly in an afternoon.

Don't you love how big the questions get off of stupid little things? Like, I started to wax lyrical in my head about what is the standard manufacturing material for the Imperium? Is that what they used or was it improvised? Is improvisation a capital offense? Either way, how is it affected by snow? Do I want to eat a donut? Why is there only the crappy coffee left? Oh, I drank the good stuff..

Maybe like a ridiculously rusted orangy red like rusty burnt umber? Orange is blue's complement and your favorite color. Dunno. Again, something we can bang out in an afternoon..

Dark grey with a heavy rust then dusted with white from above and at the base.

I can make you some of these if you want.. The are foam board. The levels are designed to fit most dread sized models and easily customizable. They are made with ease of gaming first and display terrain second.

Solar, did you just volunteer some of your terrain making expertise? I'd love some of your terrain! Painted any way you want.

Moonpie, I like your idea as well. Why not have some faded orange buildings? Heck, they don't even have to all match do they? The weird ones we can always cover in ork glyphs and blame the greenskins on any ways, right?

Sure.. They be basic buildings. Painted and freestanding - not based. I'll let you tweek them. Give me till after AC.

I'll paint then like this..but I'll add a top down blue mist followed buy a white mist. Same on the bottom edges.

I had another thought. We still have that Krylon Crystal Coat stuff or could get more. For your board we could spray the building down with that. A few shots of matte varnish in places will make it look like it is almost totally covered in a sheen of ice. It will also make it durable.

Smaller pieces always see a lot more use at my house. I have an ork garage, for example, it hardly gets used at all because it dominates the table when its out. Smaller pieces would be awesome!

More progress on my last two Sanguinary Guard. All that's left is wings and some banners. Any suggestions on what to write on those?

In an earlier post I mentioned that I have some buildings bits on same bases. I decided to experiment with one of them here. I went with a Macharius orange with some white dry brush. Nothing to involved. What are your thoughts?

I had to go back up and look at that again, thats a really good powersword effect.

I like the building section on the base, the white drybrush ties it in nicely to the base, kinda makes it look a bit frosty.

HA! The glow effect was done through clever photography. Thanks!

Thanks GiraffeX. I'm glad you like it. There will soon be plenty more of those sections. That entire wall section was probably completed in under a minute.

Love the palette. What other spot colour are you adding into the mix, if any?

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2015/04/01 21:57:45

Post by: IceAngel

@solar - yellow has been added.

@inmygravenimage - I don't have any other colors planned actually.

Today was a glorious day of hobbying. I had the day off, the kids were at day care, and I had a short list of things to do. By 9 the miscellaneous things were completed. By 10 I was surrounded by bits and tools and there was a hint of super glue in the air. I had the strong desire to paint the last few pairs of wings to complete my sanguinary guard, BUT THEN, I began to twitch and a ravenous hunger came over me. 6 hours later I had built, based, and primed 40 genestealers, two broodloards, and three carnifexes.

The new broodlord from the Deathstorm box already had an accident and needs repairs. Pictures will be forth coming once repairs are completed.

In between the genestealer madness I did put together the blood angel terminator captain from the deathstorm box and a librarian dreadnought. There are also a handful of random objectives that I primed.

Side note: The third carnifex was rearmed and despite me messing around with the devourers in all manners of different ways. It just looks silly. In fact, I find it so comical I plan on keeping it that way. It's like the special kid that you want to hang around because it feels like the right thing to do. Actually, that's how I became friends with moonpie. He looked so sad sitting all alone.......

Is it bag on moonpie week?

Forgeworld has that kit for the twin linked devourers. May want to pick it up at Gen Con.

I hope so bad that the genestealer cult rumor is true. Kind of... Looking at that swarm I would have to put out some serious lead.

@Solar - I appreciate the offer but I do not need tyranid buildings. Bring on the ork ones!

SO, despite my incredible urge to build some genestealers the other day, I have not been able to muster up any motivation to do anything with them. Mostly because I am unsure of where I want to go with them. The vast majority of my tyranids were painted probably 10 years ago. They are a simple white based force with orange trimmed armor. The only exception would be my trygon that I painted a few years ago, for some reason I made him purple with gray striped armor. Now, my force is entirely painted except for the newly primed guys from the other day. I have no desire to repaint them at this time and I don't particularly care for the paint scheme.

With that in mind, I am left to ponder what to do with my genestealers and carnifexes. Of course genestealers don't always have to match the parent force because they are based partially on the human genes and not the crazy nid gene that everything else is based around. This question is more geared towards the carnifexes. Should they match? Should I experiment and just say to hell with the old stuff? I do plan on getting more of the new nid monsters and drop pods etc. I still need to pick up a tervigon and a flyrant or two. What or how should I then paint those guys? Would it be completely ludicrous to have an all painted tyranid force with a variety or color schemes? Should I let my viewer audience pick the color scheme for each unit or bug?

I don't know. While I ponder these things I will listen to some dubstep, show tunes, vivaldi, and oasis, and hope that I can finish these sanguinary guard wings before my two kids wake up from their naps.

oh the humanity.. Ok ...

1. Deep breath.
2. So of all that the ' I don't particularly care for the paint scheme' seems the most pressing. Motivation and happiness over the look is something that you can cure with the right theme.

Sounds like you haven't found the 'right' theme yet. I suggest taking some time and play with the colors to get something you really like. Then paint a test from the new stuff. If it grows into happiness then you can go back and repaint. I think you'd want too have a cohesive look. If your not happy try again.

This is one of the reasons I stopped with my Nids. I wasn't happy with the scheme. Still searching myself. I think there is a lot of cool unique designs out there. Now find yours!

Some pics of te old themes would help.

I like your Orange an Blue.. Reminds me a bit Of Starship troopers.

My original theme was bone body with green internals. Shell was purple. Simular to your trygon.
I'm not sure where I'll go. Luckly I have no more than a few figs painted.

I have a lot of 40k armies. I'm trying to have a 'color' associated for each one. Necrons - black and white. Lamenter - yellow. Orks - rust, Eldar White and turquoise. CSM - Blue, GK metallic black. Either my tau will be Grey, AM - Green ... 30k Mechanicus - Red. Thant may lead me only purple stilll.... ugh!

This Sunday there will be a battle at my house. A rare occurrence that involves two splinter tyranid fleets. The pair met by coincidence but instead of converging their mental powers to overtake the system, they found themselves fighting one another over the meager biomass in the area. On the moon of Sisxip, an elite unit of marines was sent on a vital and urgent mission, but when their transport failed to arrive they found themselves stranded between the two xenos forces.

In our little game on Sunday, the point will be to see who can have more total wounds of Tyranids near the space marine firebase at the end of the game. The Tyranid forces will not be able to damage the building or the marines during the game, but the marines will be firing at the closest enemy unit every turn. In case of a tie, a roll off will occur. To keep it simple, we are using a small 5 man team. Regardless of model they will all be equipped with bolters and one plasma cannon, just to make things easy. AND, because I rarely get to use them, I am using marine swaps as the tasty biomass the nids are trying to consume. To make things even more fun, I am going to let you guys pick the unit that will be on the base.

One vote each everybody.

Fire Team Mortifex, which consists of XII, Jaska, Deklyn, Mortifex, Bonamire

Fire Team Aquilum, which consists of Jaska, Aquilum, Walters, Inushi, Reven

Hey, long time since I came here !

1. Love the SG "with wings", but a chainsword would be a bit large on top, uh ?
2. I liked the Blue/Orange scheme of the Nids, but I would suggest not to feel trapped by the former models... Do what appeals to you ! I did change my scheme for the Night Stalkers (Dark Angels), from "total camouflage" to "black & a few camouflaged parts", and... I'm happy I made that choice !!!

Good luck on your game, I would have liked to see Mortifex see some action, but hey

Yggs! Welcome back.

Thanks to everyone for voting. The battle was great but we didn't get to finish it. We started a little late and were very distracted by family and miscellaneous things. Not a big deal though, we had a blast. We did, as a gaming pair, have some miss plays but no matter, it was fun. I will give some serious credit to Fire Team Aquilum. Nearly every turn they killed a half dozen or more tyranids. Jaska even wounded my Hive Tyrant on turn three.

Of course, for those of you who aren't even reading this. Here are the pictures.

My Army.

Buddies Army

Here are Reven and Aquilum back to back, facing the hordes of Nids surrounding their firebase.

Deployment

Over to the left are my opponents Zoanthropes, Warriors, and Venomthrope. Due to some terrain and a poor decision on his part, his zoanthroapes were left out of the battle until turn three.

Turn 1: My opponent managed to fit a large unit of genestealers along with a broodlord near by on my right flank. I was planning on taking care of them with some shooting and a hopeful round of overwatch but it didn't work out. First, I managed to save every cover save from my venomthrope from my opponent but I then botched my overwatch, terribly. I hit with five devourers and then only wounded one of them. He of course failed his save. Had a killed two more he would have failed his charge and it would have been a whole different game. At any rate, he charged in and took out about 20 gants in the first round of attacks.

Turn 2

I keep my carnifexes in cover waiting for them to get closer. I charged into the genestealers with my haruspex and a large unit of rippers hoping to tie them up. My psychic phase was dismal, as it was all three turns. Shooting goes fairly well. My Trygon Prime comes in and nearly takes out an entire unit of warriors in the shooting phase. I assault into his genestealers but forget to challenge the broodlord. He proceeds to eat the haruspex before i even get to attack. The rippers and gants to take out some stealers but not enough. On his turn he continues moving up, taking pot shots and spawing more gants from his tervigon that is chilling in the back field. He did peril of the warp and wound his Tyrant. He charges his remaining warrior into my prime, the warrior doesn't survive.

Turn 3

On my left flank my carnifexes move out of their cover and tear through his warriors. My Tyrant takes out a unit of gargoyles. My Prime assaults his Tyrant, I wound him several times. He brought a bonesword and lash whip but fails any wound rolls of 6. Whew. In the genestealer combat my rippers survive yet another round while taking out a couple more. Thankfully. On his turn he has dismal shooting. I pass all of my invulnerable saves on my zoanthropes. He fails to wound my carnifexes and overall little happens, up until the assault phase. I survive yet another round of combat with his tyrant before my Prime takes him out. He finishes off my rippers in a glorious display of overkill.

We end the game with him currently winning the objective but I was in a position to lay down some serious hurt. He did still have a tervigon waiting to come in, that could have also made a big difference. Still any ones game. The marines were fully surrounded with no where to run, that is for sure.

Thanks guys. The game was a blast. I can't wait to play again. As often as I talk about and work on this stuff it is a shame how little I actually get to play. I am sure that is the case for most of you guys too.

After sifting through my bits box I found a suitable banner topper. A lovely little winged icon. I would appreciate some feedback on this one.

Should the banner topper be in the same gray shade as the rest of the banner, or should it be blue like their armor, or should it be red like the blades and blood?

DISCUSS!

Okay, I went with blue. Originally I thought red but I think the blue ties the banner to the squad a little more then it would have had it been red. I think I can finally stamp these guys completed. Okay, it is time to dust off the P&M blog. I have things to accomplish.

This is the week of GenCon, also known as, Ice Angels vacation. I have many things to accomplish, such as cleaning the house yard work, blah blah blah. First things first, I have to paint a land raider. A Tiger Claw land raider! It is the last remaining unpainted Tiger Claw thing I own. The plan is to have it painted by Thursday so I can sell them or trade them in at GenCon. Pictures will be forth coming I assure you.

I also have to do a bit of writing. Knightley is probably already mad at me for posting something other then fluff on my fluff blog. Any ways, wish me luck.

OH, i almost forgot, I plan on getting some battles in as well. More pictures!

p.s. I love GenCon but it isn't much of a GW event, not like Adepticon. Would any one be interested in me telling you all about the great and wonderful things I'll be demoing and playing and listening and watching?

Yes, I get mad everytime I see you post on the epic fluff and it's not more story.

However I can't stay mad at you for too long. I for one may never get to go to a large event such as Adepticon or GenCon due to the costs involved with travel to get there, so having other people narrate their adventures allows me to be there in sprit.

Bring on the paint.

Okay, as promised here are some WIP pictures on my Tiger Claw Land Raider. For those of you who have followed my P&M blog for a long time you will probably recall that I had painted my Tiger Claw land raider once before. I didn't particularly like how it turned out. I think I have a picture some where. AH yes,

BAM

After that I decided to start over so I sent it off to the Gitsplitta work shop. He air brushed it for me so that it was a nice gradient orange. Here is what it looked like after I went through and did some of the first layers of black and gray.

I then went through and started getting some highlights, details, and the more important dirt and grim. Did mention stripes?

Here is where I am at now.

I could probably spend more time on it but I think I need to step away for a few minutes and think about. Thoughts?

Solar - I won't sell you Corien. I'll just ship him to you. You've been more then generous with me in the past.

Knightley - I am glad you like them. The claws have been a great part of my 40k hobby but I don't think they have a use for me any more. They served their purpose as a wonderful excuse to paint orange and stripes. I will never forget the fun and the great times I had with them but I don't think they will get played again. I'd rather sell them to someone else so that they may get reused in one way or another. The funds will then go towards the next hobby project. I am hoping to get a decent price for them at GenCon being that there are so many vendors there for me to chat with but if I can't get a fair value, who knows, they may stick around.

It is nice and early. The kids are ready for school. My bags are packed. The claws are ready for their new deployment. On the agenda today, I have a 4 o'clock "How to make Suishi" class. Yes that's right. I am going to a convention and my wife and I decided to check out a suishi making class. Gencon is awesome like that.

For those of you who have never heard of GenCon, it is called the best four days of gaming. It technically is five days, but only vendors and certain passes can be used on Wednesday. This year my wife didn't get a special pass that she can technically get through work. Wednesday is almost always for business and meetings, not really for fun. Any ways, from Thursday to Sunday it is nothing but endless gaming, speaking to actors and actresses, visiting with Artists, playing games, demoing games, going to classes, and workshops, oh and playing games.

I have a suishi class today. I writing workshop and a concert tomorrow. Sunday is family day so I'll be back with my boys. I will try to keep you posted as the day goes. I may even try to post from my phone some pics of the new stuff. Another great thing about GenCon is that many of the vendors release things at GenCon and let us get first dibs on stuff.

Any ways, I have spent to much time typing. Time to go.

Gencon day 1 summary.

We arrived nice and early to get prime parking. Downtown Indianapolis has a lot of options but we have our favorite. The vendor hall opened at 10. We started the day with a little wandering before visiting one of my favorite artists, Sam Flegal. After a lovely chat, my wife and her friend attacked the magic hall for some two headed giant. I began my demos.

First up, Epic Resort. The premise is you have a resort that is trying to attract adventurers so that if your resort gets attacked by monsters they are there to stop them and inadvertently protect your resort. Every turn you get cards to build a play deck that will allow you to better staff your resort and even expand. The better care and rest you provide for the adventurers the more likely they are to stay and reach full health, which gives you victory points.

It was fun but not a game I would buy.

Next I played with a deck of carca called clever. It was a neat multipurpose deck with dozens of different ways you can play. Each card had an item on it, a color, a let or number. It was neat and inexpensive. I may go back to pick that up.

Next my friend and I played star wars armada. That game is great. At $100 it is a steep purchase but it is totally worth it. I'd also like to add it is substantially different then xwing. There are some shared ideas but I think armada is more refined and a clean game.

By 2 pm it was lunch. Right outside the convention hall were two dozen food trucks. We hit the cup cake truck for some fantastic cakes then we got our main course. I chose the quesadilla burger. It was good but it took about 45 minutes to get through the line and get my food. That was not really worth it in my opinion.

At this point I grabbed my tiger claws. I sought out the bitz guy. We had lovely chat but ultimately didn't come to an agreement. I still possess the Tiger Claws.

At 4 we had our suishi class. It was a lot of fun and very educational. I also got to eat about 20 home made rolls.

By this time it was 530. The vendor hall closes at 6. We went back in to pick up a game called evolution. It was a big hit last year and I wanted to get a copy.

Once the hall closed we hit the bar at the crown plaza. I got a phenominal cheese platter and some over priced wine. We chilled for a bit then went to an awesome pizza place that is hidden in an alley a couple blocks away.

Overall day 1 was awesome. I only bought one game so far but I probably didn't even explore half the vendor hall. I did take some pictures but it's late and I don't want to mess with it right now.

Oh one more thing while we were waiting to pick up evolution wil wheaton sat next to me to chat with the booth guys. It was pretty cool.

I love how you just end on the Oh one more thing I met Wil Wheaton quite by accident in San Diego in 2000 and he was just a lovely, lovely bloke.

I see the Firefly crew are demoing the new expansions and the Whole Damn 'verse board, looks amazing (fab game, if you haven't played it). Also, love to know what you think of the new X-wing stuff that's heading our way.

I have pictures. I'll mess with them later.

I realized after that previous post that I also forgot to mention another game. Ryu, I think it was called, by Asmodee games. It was a game where everyone is trying to collect resources to make their own dragon. You would visit different areas to collect different cubes and tokens, you could also visit other peoples territories and when someone visited yours you would gain some cubes too. Overall the game had some fun mechanics but I didn't see a lot of replay ability in it. I do have to mention that this booth was also running smallworld. That is a great game. I highly recommend it.

Epic Resort sounds fun. Might have to look into it. Any particular reason you wouldnt buy?

Evolution is a FANTASTIC game, one that I happened to just "win" from my local game store xD Never even heard of it before but damn. Top notch game.
My little bro bought Smallworld from a con he went to, and thats another awesome game.

Really been meaning to play some Armada, myself... Friend of min bought 2 sets (oh to have such disposable income!), so I ought to really bug him to play xD

And Ryu sounds awesome. Why no replayability?

And have you had the chance to demo Kingdom Death?

Gencon day 2.

Awesomeness continued. I continued to demo stuff. Boss monster 2, superfight, pompei, johari (sp?), a kids game with wooden animals, i know, and a few others I will remember later.

Boss Monster and it's expansions were purchased. It sounds like many of you know that game already.

Superfight is a hilarious argument game. You draw three cards that are people and animals, like Kirk and Barney. You then draw three other cards that are powers, like sonic scream or just drank 5 energy drinks. You then argue why your combo would defeat the other persons combo. The noncombatants then pick the winner after the arguments have concluded. They then had other expansions that added settings or fun things.

Pompei was a surprisingly great game. Made by Mayfair. The first half of the game is you placing your people in pompei. The second half is you trying to escape pompei while lava spreads. I'll be going back to pick that one up tomorrow. Great for your non gamer friends.

The others were fun but not really fun enough for me to buy.

Tonight we did go to the concert against humanity. It was put on by the cards against humanity guys, as you can imagine. It was full of comedians, writers, and musicians. It was over 4 hours long and fantastic. Everyone was great. I'll try to find a line up later.

Oh, I also went to 2 writing seminars. One about characterization, it wasn't that great. The other about plotting, it was great.

It is now bed time. More later.

GenCon Day 3

Today was forced to become a much shorter day then originally planned due to our baby sitting situation. We only managed to be there for around 4 hours. We did get in another Mayfair demo, I honestly don't think I ever was told what the name of the game was called but the premise was that everyone was a news paper and we were sending out our reporters to gather required stories and info to make articles. You then gather up articles to fill up your paper. Simple in concept but very elaborate. The game also had many different options. Many of the pieces were double sided so that you could flip them and use there 5 - 6 player sides for larger games. Overall, very good. I won the demo and wanted to play again, but that is really rude at a demo hall atmosphere, especially with people waiting. We did pick up that Pompei game.

Quick side note, my exploding kitten game came in the mail yesterday. We got in a couple games of that tonight. GREAT game, very simple but very amusing.

Any ways, back to GenCon. I had a great chat with the guys at Warsenal. They make some great terrain bits. I highly recommend their stuff. Good quality, lots of neat options, and reasonably priced for what you get. Check out their site and look at their objectives if you want a taste.

Back to demos, we visited one of my favorite games from two years ago, Red Dragon Inn. They have some neat expansions coming out along with a big box that will hold all of their previous stuff. Slugfest has done a great job deepening their line without over complicating the game.

We checked out a sci-fi horror RPG game called Eclipse Phase. I am not super familiar with that genre but the books were gorgeous. I almost bought them just for the art. They also had a little something for everyone. You like political shadowrunesque settings, they have an area for that. You want huge space battles, easy peasy. You want boarderlands death insurance, DONE! You want to upload your conscious into a genetically altered humanoid cyber octopus, OCTODONE! They also had a really neat card system that you could purchase to make your life easier. Say, after you uploaded your "being" into the cyber octopus thing and you then get kicked by an alien robot gorilla to death, the cards will help you recall where you were when you last did the upload so that you don't have to copy all your crap down. I don't know how it works but the booth person I was speaking with was great at describing it.

My wife just walked by, the newspaper game was called Extra Extra.

Now, for those of you who haven't spend a lot of time with me in real life, there is something you need to know about me. I take food very seriously, especially when I travel or have new places as an option. I think I mentioned this before but Indianapolis has an AWESOME food truck scene. Every day we have eaten at multiple trucks. Today was the best HANDS DOWN. Far Out Freds, was the name of the truck. We got an amazing open faced burger with a great blend of white cheeses, a nice tomato relish, lettuce, and some amazing sauce. With it we picked up Thors Lightning Balls, which were fried bacon cheese balls. (OMGAMAZING) We also picked up a fruit kabob with a light refreshing coconut butter dip. Ridiculous.

Did I mention there was also a doughnut truck? Today I had a Klingon Brain, which was an apple fritter with a green glaze. It was pretty good. Yesterday we visited this truck and picked up a White Trash Suicide. A white cake doughnut with mountain flavored icing, sprinkled with pop rocks. The best one though, was this salted caramel chocolate doughnut my wife bought both times.

But I digress. GenCon has been great thus far. Tomorrow is family day, we will be bringing the boys to visit some friends and play some kids games. One thing that I did miss today that saddens me, is the costumer parade. They have a big, BIG costume contest every Saturday of GenCon. Hundreds of people dress up. This years winning contest is already up on the gencon website, go check it out! Before the contest all of the contestants walk down some of the corridors between the various convention halls. Everyone else lines up and watches them walk past. It is always a blast and a lot of fun to see what people come up with.

Okay, this is the earliest I've been able to get some rest so I am going to try and take advantage. I hope you've been enjoying my little posts. Please ask me any questions if you have any.

One more thing, I saw Briancj today. He was busy so we didn't chat but his room seemed very popular at the time.

Thanks guys. I haven't uploaded all of mine yet and frankly it is late and i won't be doing any of that tonight. I will however tell you all about my last day at GenCon. Day 4!

Sunday is family day at GenCon. The vendor hall isn't open as late. Now, I have to very small boys, 9 months and 3 years old. We stayed about as long as we could manage before they began to get out of control. We mainly stayed in the kids area where we played lots of memory games and balancing games. They had a HUGE Janga set. It was probably three feet tall, all wood. They then set it up on a table so it looked even bigger. It was fun. The one game that I did get to demo, that wasn't a kids game, on Sunday was called Heroes Wanted. It reminded me of Mystery Men, but the premise was that the super hero team in the city has an open spot so they are holding try outs. I didn't get to check out much of the game play but I did get through all of the descriptions and set up. The hero and villain system is fantastic. There are two stacks for each, one is the picture of a super hero or villains head, the other is their body. The body cards are all adjectives, like 1,000 years old, or cyborg, or beastly, or American. The heads are all titles like, the volcano, the hurricane, the giant taco, the pyscho mummy. You put the two together and you have your super hero and your villain. 1,000 year old giant taco! It was brilliant. Each had different powers and abilities and ways to "level" up. I wish we could have played it a bit more but the three year old was getting a bit hangry at this time. (for those of you without small kids, hangry is hungry and angry)

We of course visited another fantastic food truck. Ordered a portrait done of my 9 month old from my artist buddy. Picked up a couple of the kids games and then went home. According to the parking pass we were there around 3 hours. I feel like there was something else I wanted to tell you guys about GenCon but I have forgotten...............

They did just post that they had a new record number of pass purchases. Something like 70,000 unique attendees were there this year. That is pretty cool.

OH, for those of you who are X-Wing fans they put out miniatures for the next wave of models. More bounty hunters and a new epic ship that carries tie fighters into battle. It looks freaking sweet, and I don't typically play Empire.

Yggs, I am not sure if anything in particular thing is creeping up on me. I have a mountain of Ice Angels that need to be painted along with a horde of genestealers and a waaaaagh of orks but I just haven't really been in a painting mood. I have been in more of a building mood. I think I may do some terrain bits and bobs, but more importantly I think I want to make a scenario or a campaign. I've been reviewing the guys that I have put together recently and I have realized that a lot of them aren't legal, yet I keep making more. Why would I be making 40k models that I couldn't legally play? Perhaps because they look cool? I haven't decided.

At any rate, I have some terrain bits that need to be built. They have been put off for long enough. It's time to get some more ruins and then figure out a good reason to play on them. That is where I will start.

I have never created a 40k campaign before. That may be fun to construct.

I managed to start up a new little project recently. I have had an old manticore FW kit for about 12 years now. It was always one of my favorites but I could never commit to putting it together or painting it. I think once a year I would say to myself, I should get that out and paint it, but obviously that never happened.

Until now. Moonpie and I have been throwing around some campaign ideas and I thought that a converted manticore platform that had been orkified would be a great piece to battle around.

So far I am just laying pieces out to see what I like. Btw, the other side of the missile battery is going to be a collection of ork anti-air guns. I hope you like it.

However, I did say that Ramos could pick so I will stick by that decision. Any other suggestions?

In other news, I built some other terrain. Ruins and such. I took pictures too. My phone however didn't want to focus on anything though. Replacement pictures will be done and more images will appear.

The ruins will be orange, by the way. Because. .....

REASONS!

Do you want me to orangeize the Ork buildings I'm finishing up to match? They are still being riveted.. Dam slow grots! If so shoot me the base color.

This is how the buildings and ruins will look. That is macharius solar orange dry brushed onto a piece of brown ruin.

For your ork buildings, I don't think they need to match because they aren't going to match the same building material as my other ruins, besides I will have two different groups of ruins, the orange group and the grey group. I'll also have two groups of ork buildings, the ones you're making and then a couple of tan buildings such as this one.

By the way, here are some of the other ruins and recently primed turret.

Very nice.. Yeah mine are super fortified. Though painting to kinda match yours isn't a problem.

Didn't you do a Ork Landing platform?

PS.. getting closer to finishing all the rivets so painting is in the plan for the weekend!

Here is 3 phone camera pics of the Ork Buildings done with their base paint Jobs. I’ve 1 more side each to rivet on the remaining 3 buildings. So I plan to have these all base painted by the weeks end. I’ll probably do some little details, but in general I’ll leave it up to you to dress out to match your table.
These are the small building and big building.

The interior.. The floors are tall enough to accomidate a dread.

Here a couple of blurry shots that hopefully show you the scale

Those are awesome! I can't wait to get some battles in on that terrain. How tall is that larger building?

Ice Angel's List of Things to do @ 2015/09/17 20:18:17

Post by: Solar_lion

A bit over 12 inches tall. There is a ' Store' building that is in the middle between these 2 ( sloped roof ) . A larger building that is the same height but a bit longer front and what I call the ' Garage which is really long and has a ' garage stall' that is 12 in tall as well.

The zenithal lighting is amazing. Great work.

High praise indeed. I'll be adding some Red Glyphs or general orkish markings to break up the black/whiteness.

Don't feel tied down to red glyphs. The orks on this world are very colorful.

The big problem I have with these is that we will look like talentless hacks. #thankssolar

Thanks DrCheese.

I think some painting needs to happen soon. Are we settled on olive green and heavily weathered?

I think weathered green is the way to go

Excellent. I will begin that soon but first I have some writing to attend to. Before I can do that though I have a thought I need to post about.

I'm sure many of you have seen all the new pics of the upcoming amazing Tau suits of various sizes. It got me thinking about the overall 40k model environment. Outside of forgeworld titans and things that have been around for awhile now, Tau started off with their neat Riptide suit. Eldar got there super annoying Wraithknight garbage. (both are great models but they ANGER me so much that they are considered monstrous creatures) Any who, Imperial got there ever growing collection of knights and of course chaos can do whatever they want with the Imperial stuff, in addition to the really cool khorne lord of skulls.

That leaves us with a few select groups left. Necrons, surprisingly don't have bigger skeletons, instead they got floating geometric shapes. I wonder what they will get. Tyranids, have gotten some love lately but I was VERY surprised they haven't dropped a real monstrous creature. I am very partial to Tyranids, I have always been a big fan. Personally I have found a lot of the forgeworld tyranid options to be incredibly disappointing. Biotitan is very blah. Bigger venomthrope and the bigger flier, both are very blah. Not only from the rules side but from the model side. I think back to all of the tyranid epic models I had and I feel like most of them have been created except for the dominatrix and that weird slug that had upside down arms and a giant eye ball on a pillar. The name escapes me at the time being.

*insert long pause to meander the internet trying to find old model*

Ah, the dactylis. Man those are weird looking, maybe we don't want those. That is besides the point though. When do the nids get the love? When does the tyranid bioknight show up?

I have also been wondering when the big ork push shows up. That morknaught thing was fun but hardly a knight. I'm not sure we need a wide bodied knight gargant, but I think the orks should have some sort of ramshackle answer to the knight.

What remaining army would you guys be most excited about seeing them fill the "knight" position for?

Sisters of Battle...

"Attack of the 50 foot Woman" is too low hanging a piece of fruit not to pluck!

Let us be mildly serious though. They would never make a knight for the sisters because they already have to replace everything else in that particular production line. I was hoping they would have done something when the Baal Tyranid BA books came out. The sisters were rather prevalent on one of the worlds during that.

Finished all the riveting. Base painting, winterizing then my attempt at graffiti. Not sure I like what I did. I think this is not my forte. They are a lot brighter and whiter in the pic than they are in RL.
Large building

The store front ( due to its sloped top floor )

The garage

All 5. L to R back: Large build. Garage, HQ. Front row: small Build, Storefront.

I’ll probably leave the front buildings undecorated and let Ice do his thing with these. Ice can repaint any to match his board.

Those are looking really fine SL. Like what you did varying the airbrushing across the face of the buildings and the red ornamentation is a really nice touch.

Great stuff Solar. Good call on the glyphs and ork gubbins. It is just enough to make it feel orky without going over the top. I'm curious to see what that red looks like in real life.
