But enough of the complaining, it just came out, give it some time.
Back to MY P&M! If I'm painting a Tiger Claw that is in the early stages of chaos corruption, what color should the angelic jump pack wings be?
I'd do them a dingier color that blends out to white (or w/e color they normally are), almost like a "chaos meter" if you will, perhaps something dripping off of them.
Edit: DCMs that are having issues with the SM codex, to not pull this off topic anymore, would you mind putting your thoughts into the SM thread in the DCM Gamers Den?

No, not at all. It's for a swap.
Really ?!?

Alfndrate, I need to become a DCM first, but even then I'm not sure I'd get involved with an internet debate full of gamers over things such as a new codex. Arguments based around experience and opinions genuinely aren't productive. Especially when it comes to a game as diverse as 40k. I'll stay in my own little corner of the hobby and continue to enjoy every minute of it without getting bogged down with whats the newest power list, blah blah blah.
Once again, back to the P&M. I collected my bits for Ygg's marine swap and decided the wings on the jump pack actually don't look good with the armor I've chosen to use. SO forgot my previous question about what color to paint the wings because he isn't going to have the wings, just the jump pack. Oh, and a volkite charger and a shield!
Ok... Here's what forced its way into my "shopping cart" :
- Tactical Squad ;
- Sternguard Squad ;
- And... after seeing them in 3D, in real... a Centurions kit !!!

(Yeah, it could have been worse for my wallet )
This is my shopping list as well, minus the Centurion Kit, but plus a 25th Anniversary Model from last year (my flgs owner has one possibly at his other store). Figured I'd grab it if I was going to make Crimson fists
Okay, my swap for Yggs has been put together. Well, his pieces have been put together to make larger pieces but he isn't totally together yet. He is now down to four pieces. Three of which need to be primed. Then we take some pics and we get started on the painting.
As for my other two swaps, I need more legs. MORE LEGS! Perhaps a new tactical squad is in my future, or perhaps some sternguard. Hmm, decisions........
Game Empire re-upped on Sternguard squads. They also sold their last 2 old Tac squads, so I missed that. Remember that all the Sternguard have integral tabards covering their junk.
If anyone wants to see a near complete new Tactical Squad guy, you can find it on my new P&M blorg.
Yesterday the weather finally cooperated with me so I got some priming completed. Here is a picture of some of my WIP space marines. The black model on the right is my swap for Yggs. In the back ground you'll see Jaska 2 and then two of my sanguinary priests.
Here are also a few shots of my shattered aquila terrain piece.
Front and back. Still lots to do but a lot closer then we were before.
I haven't added any paint to yours yet. I'm waiting for my buddy to return from his vaca so I can use his airbrush. In other news, my other marines have arrived today so I can start putting together Ramos and Lucarikx's guys together. I'll probably have them together before Ygg's guy gets any paint unfortunately. In the meantime though, I have been painting small amounts of blue on some Ice Angels. The painting fever hasn't hit me yet.
By the way, the new 40k space marine boxes are great. Huge improvements in overall bits quality.
Which SM boxes did you get and what was the most useful. It's not like I need anymore marines but it would be nice to know what was the one too get if I did!
I've picked up the sternguard kit and it is wonderful. Can easily make 10 vets out of it with other bits. Vanguard box looks great, but I am not in need of more jump marines I don't ever use (looking at you, entire DA 7th company).
I picked up a tactical squad box while moonpie picked up a tactical, sternguard, and vanguard. I've check out all the bits and I'm very pleased with the kits. I don't know if I could just pick one without more info though.
Whale, if you are willing to part with some jump packs, I would love to have them. Now that I have the apocalypse book I apparently need 50 more assault troops to field the huge blood angel formation.

As I... Since I only use he old round style ( chapterhouse ect...) with the exception of my DC.
I have 5 jump packs and associated chests. That being said, what's in it for me?
Also, I didn't get the sternguard yet. I just have wished I got them. I was going to grab them at the GW store, but instead ordered 2 Escher gangs and a Delaque gang before they went entirely out of print. And yes, I know it makes no sense.
I think I'll respond with a question of my own, when do you plan on posting more pictures on dakka?
Mwahahaha
I'm such a great friend, but seriously. What did Russ say about jump packs?
Oh, I almost forgot. I got some cork to play around with and I have some air brush time scheduled. I can't wait to get started on Ygg's swap. I also have bits picked out for some other swaps. Slow progress, but better then nothing!
While my son was taking a lovely 3 hour nap I managed to kick the wife out of the house so I could work on some marines. Progress was good. I built several more marines. Slapped some paint on a couple of Ice Angels. This afternoon while football was on I also managed to mess around with my buddies airbrush. Progress with that was not very good. I didn't like any of my results. I clearly need more practice.
So here are some pictures of the new builds and some Ice Angel painting progress. There aren't any airbrushing pictures. I clearly need to prime things white before attempting to airbrush them.
BTW Ramos the chainfist guy is going to be my swap for you. The guy that is still in pieces is for Lucarikx. The dual wielding guy is for Aggron. I just realized I skipped a dude. I also built a meltagun marine for my Tiger Claws. Ah well. Hopefully the weather will cooperate at some point this week so I can prime. Stupid rain........
****This post was brought to you by the number 7. Music by C2C********
Here is a WIP shot of some swaps I'm working on.
Now that they are primed I'm hoping to have some paint hit the models this weekend. More WIP will follow.
While I was taking some pictures of my WIP shots, I picked up all of the marines I've received from the wonderful dakka community thus far.
As you can see its quite an eclectic mix of chapters and styles. Some clean, some dirty, some make sense, several do not. Either way it has turned out great so far. More are still on the way.

Where did you come up with that? I think if power armor can handle two powerfists then it can handle one chainfist. Unless you were referring to space wolf power armor, I can see them having trouble with power. They can't even power helmets or figure out how storm ravens work.

Don't forget teleporting. Also Moonpie's can't seem to figure out vehicles. I hear one time they got a dreadnought though.

Yep, Bjork the Limphanded. I don't think he has survived a battle yet.

Don't forget they also cannot power their electric shavers too... See how low-power & beardy this chapter has become...
I still have LOTS to do but you should be able to see him a bit better then before. I'm still a bit unsure of what color to do the shield. Any suggestions?
Hmmmm, perhaps..... I'm thinking perhaps a dark gray and then giving it some damage. I think i may try some weathering on this guy. If he is mildly corrupted he may have some well worn gear.
I like the pens a lot. It makes it WAY easier to draw on the Tiger Claw Emblem. Speaking of which I did that today. I also got lots done with Yggs Tiger Claw. I would post some pictures but my camera is dead and needs some charged up batteries. In other news I started painting my storm Talon. I kept telling myself I'd get over to my friends place to air brush it but I realized if I'd done it my way from the start it would probably be done already. Parts of it got some brown and others got some dry brushing, nothing to amazing as of yet.
AND I picked out bits for a marine for Gitsplitta. Thanks to Moonpie for delivering some jump packs for me I'm able to complete Gits request as ordered.
Okay, i'm not dead. I swear! I'm just really close to finishing my first 40k book. Well, at least the first draft of it.
That however is on another thread. This one is all about some P&M, so lets see what I've done here lately. I got bits picked out for Gits. I started on my Tiger Claw Talon. I got my Tiger Claw tanks all oranged and ready for some new paint. OH, i did put some paint on my marine for Ramos. That makes me feel better, I did at least something. Unfortunately it seems my projects are growing while the progress on them is practically nonexistent.
I need to hurry up and get the fluff out of my head and onto dakka, then I'm hoping I can get motivated to get back into the painting.
It seems the moment I start complaining about motivation, an opportunity presents itself. My buddy, who has the airbrush, had some time today. It just so happened to be when my son was going down for a nap so I seized the initiative and went over to his place for a bit. I managed to mess around with a couple Tiger Claw swaps I've been working on.
Originally I was trying all new colors to see if I could use other brands and mixes to imitate the orange on the Tiger Claw on the left. After quite awhile of mixing and spraying various models and things I discovered that they were not turning out very close to my test model, so I took them as is and hit them with a final few layers of the old orange that GW doesn't produce any more. My friend just happened to have some which was convenient.
What do you guys think? I think once I hit it with some washes and some final highlights it should turn out pretty close to what I was looking for.
Happy Thanksgiving everybody! At least to those that celebrate it, happy normal day to everyone else. I know it was yesterday and all but I was too busy cooking and feasting to post. Today, to my surprise, I received a model in the mail from another hemisphere. Brother-Mortifex Zhufiri, 9th Company, Star Phantoms chapter, arrived today safe and sound. He came with some awesome paper work and a super neat post card. Pics of all of it will soon follow. First he needs some basing done.
Here is proof that he is now in the company of Captain Razzik and his company.
"Stand there?" Brother Zhufri asked while pointing to room on the shelf.
"No, over there." Captain Razzik pointed the same spot.
As initiation in to the company each new marine has to run in full battle gear the Gauntlet of frag grenades. A trial where the young Marine traverses a obstacle course and his fellow marines throw frag munitions to keep him moving while also helping the seasoned Marines to pass the time between war zones.
Look, progress! I actually got some paints out and started getting things done recently. Still need a gun and some touch ups on these guys. I've got an Ice Angel I've been working on too. Expect more pictures soon.
Thanks guys. Here is my other WIP i was telling you about.
I'm not sold on how is head turned out. Suggestions? I was trying to make him really pale. I need to fix his eyes too. Not sure how I'm going to do that...... To bad the blade didn't come in focus either. I could some advice on that one too.
I like the pale head . Not sure the eye should be blue ( unless it's normal for IS's) 2 things I think I'd fix..1. use a light blue on the shlulder trim ( cover the off white in the pic) Other is to do a sepia wash on the chestplate scroll to give it a bit more depth.
2 cents
Blade look good from what I can tell. I like the green to yellow transition.
Well, he looks on the pale side of albino, then... Or was it the opposite ?
TBH, I don't think his skin tone is off. But the eyes just don't look right, I have to agree. Maybe add in a pupil, or an iris ? (yeah, easier said than done )
I'm glad you all approve. He still needs an ammoless gun and then a couple minor things I've noticed while staring at these pictures. Almost there.
My air guitar Tiger Claw now also has a meltagun. I'm hoping to have pictures of that this weekend.
It feels so nice to actually getting some of this stuff done, at least that's what I keep telling myself. We'll see if I'm still saying that when I attempt to paint my Storm Talon orange. *gulp*
Tiger Claw with meltagun = completed
Ice Angel with knife = completed
Ice Angel Sergeant with mace = completed
Ice Angel tactical marine = completed
Tiger Claw Storm Talon = started
Take pictures of progress = negative
I was being so productive that I didn't even take pictures of it. Those will have to come later. I some how managed to start something with my Storm Talon. Stripped Orange Flier for the win! I decided to paint the canopy instead of leave it clear. I haven't yet but I will once my orange is done. I was thinking about the fliers I've seen and every time I see a picture of a GW flier with a painted canopy I like it more then the clear ones where I can see the pilot. I don't know why.
Random question to all of you hobbyists. This may sound odd but what kind of chairs do you guys sit on when you paint? Lately I've found that I hunch over when I paint and end up horribly uncomfortable. I have two different chairs and neither one seems to be better then the other. I know I'm getting old but this is unacceptable.
**** This message was brought to you by the number 8 and the word lugubrious. ************
Adjustable "work" chair. Comfortable like an office chair (on rollers, spins, you can adjust height and a little of the back) but it's meant for sitting at a counter or workbench as opposed to a normal desk.
I think the key to not hunching(not that I actually do it) is to have your table at the right level that you can rest your elbows on it and be sitting straight. Having your elbows on the table helps steady your hands and at the right height of table and chair forces you to keep your back straight.
That's the GW employee talking to wide-eyed young hobbyist talking.
The method which yields me my wonderful results is hunched over with a cigarette in my mouth and so much crap on my table I can barely fit a water cup let alone my elbows. Then, regretting my back pain and taking out my bad attitude on friends, family, and co-workers. Ah, the price of greatness...
Have you tried the bluetac stuck to a paint pot trick yet?
Thanks Git! I actually painted that maul a long time ago. It was done when I was working on your mantis warrior challenge. There were two inquisitorial guys that I was painting gold and I continued the technique on the maul.
IceAngel wrote: That maul is fantastic. I'd love to get my hands on more of them.
I'm glad you like him Yggs.
Sadly, I think I used all the ones I had for my DW Knights squad :\
And I remember the Plasma Cannon Inquisitor... Still looks awesome !
I wouldn't ask you to mail me anything from France again Yggs. Thanks for the thought though.
whalemusic360 wrote:How many mauls you want? Also, do you still need jump packs, or did SL get those taken care of.
I'd love to have just enough mauls to field a small unit, like an honor guard, so five. Moonpie hooked me up with some regular jump packs awhile back, unless you have any sanguinary guard jump packs. I need one of those to complete my unit.
Today I managed to get some more done on my talon. The orange is coming along. I still need to hit it with a wash and then further highlights. To get away from the orange for a minute I did begin work on the missiles and the lens. I hope you guys like him thus far.
I have some ill news to report though. My FLGS from my child hood is closing. The owner of Valporaiso Pet and Hobby is retiring after thirty some odd years. When Moonpie and I heard the news we quite literally got in the car and drove back home so we could chat with the guys, pick up discounted stuff, and then drive back. I'm glad we could stop by one more time but sad it'll most likely be the last time.
Thank you Valporaiso Pet and Hobby for being my first dealer in model crack! Its funny to think that back in 1991 when I first started going there, the clerk bitched about GW. I swear that yesterday when we saw him, he was still bitching about the same thing.
inmygravenimage wrote: Nice tone on the orange. Will it get wing weathering and soot or be factory fresh?
Sorry i missed this one before. There will be some minor weathering. I don't want it to be too busy. After I've done everything else I'm going to probably add some minor weathering around engines and such.
@whale - it was just time to retire. the store had always done well. The gaming side of things was a very very small part of that store. Valporaiso has a huge model train following. Remote control cars, planes, and trains were all MUCH more popular then wargaming at this particular store. There was another FLGS a few miles away. It had all the gaming supplies and gaming clubs.
There seems to be a lot of that going around. The grand-dad of Madison gaming stores (The Last Square) just down-sized and relocated to the point where it's little more than an on-line store now. The large gaming community has kind of scattered to the 4 winds. (I'm not blaming them... people ARE allowed to retire after all.)
For those of you that read my fluff thread, you'd know that I managed to write an entire book here on dakka. I'm in the editing process right now to clean it up a bit. While this has been going on I've also begun the brainstorming and outlining of book two. Moonpie, first supplied Brother Aquilum in book one. For book two he has supplied me with this lovely marine.
He is from a secretive chapter of marines, known by outsiders as the Twin Sabres. This particular marine though is very special amongst his peers. He has obtained a rank shrouded in mystery. SO shrouded that even his own brethren can only whisper about the thought of it. This rank is so highly honored that no one dare mention it or even write it down. The sheer idea of limiting this all inspiring rank or confining this level of aptitude with words and icons would defeat the purpose of its existing. Instead, the Twin Sabres simply erased this marines name and history so he can take up the mantle of............. the Celestial Unicorn!
The Celestial Unicorn will most definitely *****DELETED*********
Wow, that was weird.
Let's try again.
In book two of the ***DELETED******DELETED******DELETED******
Okay, never mind.
In hobby news, i did managed to wash my storm talon. I need to hit up some high lights and pick up a few more details. Then I need to figure out how to stripe it. I need to paint the cockpit glass. Lastly, hit it with some light damage.
The best part about this was that I was talking with Ice on the phone and said he had a banner with a design, but it was a secret.
He goes, "Is it a unicorn?"
I changed the subject.
@Ramos-I'll take fascinating. I stared at the color wheel in the 03 version of how to paint citadel miniatures and read about harmonies and discords and generally acted like I knew anything about that crap.
@Git- The sabres are from the FW Mk IV power weapons kit. I think they are Charnabal sabres. They are the Emperor's Children things I think.
RIP Pet and Hobby. We used to spend as much time as we were allowed staring at "Space Marine" plastic titans and Ork Bubblechukkas there. I bought all of my Necromunda stuff there. I went 3 weeks without school lunch so I could buy my first box of metal Grey Hunters there. Thanks for the Necron Abyss and the memories!
Thanks guys. I actually did some stripes yesterday after I spent about an hour starting at it trying to determine how I should do the stripes. I'll have some pictures later.
Hmmmmmm, the first set of stripes I did I really liked. The second set I wasn't so sure on. The third set looks okay. I took some pictures today but the lighting is really bad. As I stare at the model I have come to the conclusion that I like the stripes but I wouldn't really say its very tigery. Tigery? Sure, I'll use that made up word. Then again Tigers, as I look at images, have sort of whitish faces with stripes going every which way. I never thought about doing a white face on my talon or any of my marines, perhaps in the future? Perhaps on a captain or character of some sort? Interesting thought isn't it.
Tomorrow I'm hoping to take some better pictures while there is some day light to work in. Expect some pictures tomorrow.
Automatically Appended Next Post: On a random side note, are any of you guys playing Clash of Clans? I've been wasting WAY to much time on it. It is lots of fun. I'm only in the silver leagues at the moment but if any of you need a clan please look me up. My clan is the Mindflayers.
AND back to painting. According to the weather, the snow will be out of here and the sun will be up later this afternoon. Pictures of my Talon will be incoming.
I like it. It's probably easy to go overboard and do too many stripes. I' like the jagged stripes the best. the best shot is the upper right pic.
On a side note though the canopy is painted well I think I'd prefer to see the pilot in flyers.
Good choice of color to highlight the black stripe.
What are you thinking of doing for the stand? I think you should do a pile of Red Scorpions bodies all the way up. That should keep you busy and not playing clans!
While the concept of the tiger stripe pattern is sound, I feel that there is some disparity in execution. It would have looked much better as a stylized, tearing pattern using tiger stripe colors. That's my opinion, at least. This pattern does the intended job of camouflage, breaking up body lines and shapes, very well. But I feel that aesthetically it was perhaps a poor choice.
Hmmm.... Looks real good. My only thought would be to bring out the edges a bit with an extreme highlight. like on all the hard corners and angles of the armor plates. That would help give it some more shape and definition. Nothing too extreme, but enough to tell its there.
Looks good! I also like to see the pilot, but can see the draw of not having to do that part. I also vote for SL providing a massive pile of MkIV Marines with RS pads. At least 30.
But seriously, you should put the Maelstrom swirl opposite the chapter logo on the back.
Here is a nice little change of pace. Some early WIP pictures of our Adepticon display board. I won't even bother telling you more about it. We've a long way to go and I'll just randomly toss pictures of it online for you to all look at.
In other news, while watching the olympics tonight I manage to punch out about 20 orks. Surprised? I was surprised. Every once in awhile you just want to WAAAAGH. I also received my marine from Lucarikx. Once he is based pictures will arrive. Before the Olympics I also managed to collect some more random things for my display board. I need to grab some more filler or spackle or whatever. I'm also thinking about putting together some sand bags. It may be time to get some plumbers epoxy and make some, perhaps a LOT of bags.
What else? There was something else to report but I seem to have forgotten............ The smooth beats of Aphex Twin are distracting me.
Precisely! After Adepticon the board will most likely be repainted a different color and kept around for small games or an extension board for apocalypse games.
In other news, I received my marine swap from Lucarikx. Here is a WIP of him. I'm still finishing up his base.
I also started working on a Tiger Claw Rhino. It's coming along nicely. Pictures of that later.
Welcome back my friend! The cockpit was a simple blend of a dark royal blue up to an ice blue. I mixed it all while it was still wet. Before hand I picked a corner to highlight up to and a few minutes later, BAM! It was done. It was my first attempt and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm glad you like it too.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I almost forgot. After taking a few days to involuntarily purge every fluid out of my body at seemingly random times, I finally felt human enough today to get some stuff for the display board. I don't have any pictures yet but I did hit it with some more light weight spackle to smooth out some of the features.
Side note: Have any of you guys tried removing glued down terrain features in the past? I have one of the four display pieces from my very first Adepticon and I'm thinking about cannibalizing some of the bits off of it. I have an old metal land speeder and some other things that may work better on my new board. I'm not sure the best method to remove them from the board though. I have several metal scrappers that would probably work well. Any one have any other suggestions?
Yeah, Ice tried to kill me. My two biggest things to look forward to are 1. Yay! For my Tuesday/Wednesday weekend! TGIM! 2. A solid bowel movement. A man can dream can't he?
This is what best friends are for.
Also, we have sandbags from Pegasus. Note to everyone: Don't talk to the train guy at the hobby store. He'll take 10 minutes to tell you they don't have sand bags or things for wargamers, when it will only take you 2 minutes to just find them yourself. And trees. They had trees.
I've been playing around with some different stripe options. After staring at a zoo book that my 18 month old loves, I came up with a different stripe pattern. Thoughts?
I still have lots of things to do to it but I got my initial stripes down. I feel like it may need more. I still need to figure out where to put the Tiger Claw emblem too.
Not sure if it needs the stripes to extend down the side a bit further?
Think putting another set of stripes on the sides would be too much, but it feels like it might be a litle bare compared to the top. Maybe if the emblem went on the side hatches that would add more of the tiger aspect to the side elevation.
Monkeytroll I think you may be right. Perhaps I should lengthen some of the stripes on the side and add the emblem on the hatches. I shall start with that!
For those of you that read my fluff thread, you'd know that I managed to write an entire book here on dakka. I'm in the editing process right now to clean it up a bit. This scheme is so striking... and looks like so much work!
Very well done, and can't wait to see more of your Adepticon board, too
IceAngel wrote: Monkeytroll I think you may be right. Perhaps I should lengthen some of the stripes on the side and add the emblem on the hatches. I shall start with that!
That'd be my suggestion as well. Currently its a bit top heavy. Lengthening the stripes on the sides, particularly towards the rear of the chassis, should give it more balance. Hatch emblems should class it up a good bit as well!
Tomorrow, I'll lengthen the stripes down the sides and try to lighten up the front some. Thanks for all the great feedback. I'll get some updated WIP pictures this weekend.
In other news, I think I've finally decided what I'm going to do with my HQ. More on that later.
Could work as thunderwolves... have a friend who has turned some high elves lions from the Tiranoc chariot set into a similar creation, then he uses them as ravenwing, to suit his DA army... After all their Primarch is the Lionel Johnson and lions feature in their imagery
Here is an updated picture. I extended the stripes almost all around the thing. I worked on the head lights. In the first picture I took I notice how overly highlighted it came out. I'll be working to fix that a first. I also added on the chapter badge. I added a little bit of damage around the bottom to try and give it a more well worn feel to it.
The next picture I took was next to some of my marines to make sure the orange was still matching up well. The tank was air brushed and one of those marines was air brushed the rest was painted normally.
In board news, i reclaimed those bits from our old display board. Some of them will be integrated into the new board. A little chiseling and they came right off. That will be my plan for tomorrow. I want to get the landscaping done tomorrow. Then hoepfully I'll be able to get all the texture down on the board during the week. That'll give me the month of March to paint and get all the details together. Not to shabby.
I need to revisit my list and see what else I need to do. Outside of my HQ I'm not sure I have too much else to do.
@ RiTides: I did that one for a swap for Ice. It is way too much work, but that was kind of the point for a one off. You just can't argue with quartered or halfsies marines. It just looks so good.
About above: Then we hit it with a hammer. Ice will post pics.
Moonpie is exactly correct. He and I were discussing damaging our board some before we got to the sand stage. Here is what we had to work with.
As you can see we have a lovely road that needs some texture and something to make it pop. We decided what better way to show the trauma of war then by hitting it with a hammer. HAMMER TIME!
This last one we went a bit far when we decided to hit the foam with the hooked end of the hammer. Not so sure on the results.
OH, i almost forgot. Here is a picture of my salvaged wreckage from my older board.
I like the one with the claw hammer, it reminds me a bit of the sink-holes which have been opening up in some parts of the UK where ground has just subsided or collapsed, this could be the same sort of thing what with hammer time making the earth move.
Thanks guys! I'm glad you like our "craters". Work on the board has been slower then planned lately. I've worked on adding in some more little details here and there. The next step will be to move in back into my garage, sand some places to smooth things out, cover it in glue, and add textures. I'm hoping the weather will warm up at least a little bit in the near future so glue will actually dry in a timely manner. If we're lucky maybe it'll warm up enough for us to prime the thing too!
On a side note, I reviewed my Adepticon army list and I've gotten everything completed except for my HQ. This year I decided to spice things up and bring a librarian as my commander. Is it a good idea? I'm not sure. More importantly, what does a Tiger Claw librarian look like? Should he still be blue? Should he still have stripes? Should the stripes be blue or perhaps orange? Should he be black with blue and orange stripes? I'm not entirely sure. The mind boggles with the possibilities. While I'm typing this I'm thinking to myself, a blue librarian with orange stripes would be neat. Then again so would an orange librarian with blue stripes. I've decided to field a terminator librarian as well. I think its silly librarians don't come with any kind of invulnerable save so I feel obligated to equip him with one. More importantly, it'll give me more area to work with for my stripes.
So please tell me what you think. I'd appreciate some serious audience participation at this time. Thanks in advance.
It looks like blue with orange stripes is a go. Next question. What shade of blue should I go up to. I think a darker blue would be better then an ice blue. Thoughts?
I've put some paint on my librarian, but first. Some pictures of an Ice Angel that's been hovering around my work station for several months. I finally got him all put together and ready to go. After cropping the pictures I think I may add a slight glow to the end of his weapon but other then that he's all done.
That particular one is the Volkite Caviler, 30", S6, AP5, Heavy 2, Deflagrate (units take extra hits equal to the number of wounds caused by the initial shots).
I'm not entirely sure that combination of weapon / shield is legal but I thought they looked cool. I've got an interesting assortment of weapons planned for this squad of marines.
Update! Despite my lack of posts I've been slowly working on things. My librarian has seen a lot of paint. I finally got a shield for him. I'm using one of the dark angel deathwing storm shields. I scrapped everything off of it so that its free of any Dark Angel taint. It needs some priming before it gets attached to anything, same with the shoulder pad. The board is now covered in glue sand and other bits of debris. The first round has already dried. I'm now waiting for some of the touch ups to dry. I think there will be one more round, i'm going to experiment with some texture things. More on that later.
In other news........ hmmm. I had something else to talk about but it has slipped my mind.
OH YES! I started working on the base for my storm talon. Still a lot to do on that one but I'm hoping to have pictures of all of this stuff in the near future.
Librarian WIP By the way, he is not attached to that base. He is merely standing on it. His base will match that of the others in the army. I'm not a huge fan of the skull lined stairs.
Tiger Claw Army Thus far
After all of these pictures were taken I did begin some board priming. I hit the road with a textured spray paint. I hit the crater and the ruins and the rocky corner with black primer and then did some spot priming. The goal is to have some variation under the browns and other colors we add to it. I'm still not sure how I want to do the trench but I've got time to mess with it. Today I also got some more done on the base for the Talon. A couple more things on that and it'll be ready for paint. That should be a quick one. Only a few more weeks until Adepticon. In gaming news I picked up the new Tyranid codex. Lots of fun stuff in there. It's hard to process everything without doing a lot of play testing. I certainly love the new models. I can't wait to dust off my horde and see how it does but not until after Adepticon of course.
A small amount of work was accomplished today. While reading your comments I took a moment to look at my librarian. The winged blood droplet above his book looked out of place so I cut it off and replaced it with a double headed eagle. I tried to clean off a lot of the blood angel iconography but some how missed the one above his head. I also finished putting together the Talon base. After my first attempts from the other day I decided to add a bit more rubble on its base SO it got a little more rubble. Nothing crazy, just enough to give it a bit more depth. Once that dries it'll be time for some brown paint on that.
I've also come to the realization that I need a base for the librarian. I may have to make a trip this week to a hobby store to see what I can find.
Thanks guys. The feeling of it almost being here is settling in. I think I'm down to only four projects left. Librarian, talon base, display, and story. Time to get cracken.
Today the board got a lovely layer of paint put on it. Yesterday I managed to complete the base to my librarian and my Talon. OH, I also got an awesome pair of sky shields today. They look AWESOME. Pictures of all of that on Friday. I plan on accomplishing a lot this weekend. I have three days off. WOOT!
Huzzah! Terrain! (Incidentally, Im gonna try and shoot the giant fortress and V. Batteries to you hopefully sometime mid-next week. Just need to push through the accursed hellscape that is the strongpoint T_____T )
Definitely looking forward to the update pictures!
More WIP board pictures
Still lots to do on this board. Lots of details to go in and paint. I'm thinking about doing some barbed wire in front of the trench. I've got sand bags to go behind it. Some areas will be getting some additional washings to add more depth along with some areas of static grass and flockings of various sorts.
Librarian WIP I think on my librarian I'm going to be doing the stripes next. I'm still not sure what color I should do the shield. I thought about painting it orange but I'm not sure how that'll tie in with everything. Hence my doing the stripes next to see how they look. The other option would be to go gray like my other terminators. Last option in my mind is to leave it black and paint the Tiger Claw Chapter Symbol on it in gray perhaps with some orange stripes creeping on the edges.
Thoughts?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Side Note: I've totally gotten side tracked with this Clash of Clan app. Any one else playing this game?
Lol, watch out for Clash of Clans! A friend showed it to me, and while I resisted that one, I briefly picked up Kingdom Rush. My thinking was that it was similar enough, but being only single player, how hooked could I really get? Well, hooked enough to mow through it and it's sequel but luckily, that's the end of it... unlike Clash of Clans!
I like the progress and am very curious to see what the display will look like when complete!
thanks for all of the great comments guys. Here is an updated picture of the board with some guys on it.
For Adepticon only one of those shields will be there, FYI.
I'll tell ya one thing.... The skyshields definitely look better in natural light (I assume thats what you've got going on).
I really gotta get out of this dungeon xD
Whatever the case, the army looks amazing, and the display board doubly so!
Slowly things are starting to really come together!
Its always nice to be channelled now and again, the storm shield looks at least 92% better in orange than in black!
Also I've been clashing it up as well, I'm at the stage where everything is taking 3-4 days to make anything so Log in, raid some poor plebs then log out again.
Thanks guys. I had a wonderful game of 40k on Sunday. I managed to paint a little bit more on the board. I'm hoping this Wednesday to get that finished up. The librarian still needs some work but nothing to serious. I did manage to finally get some writing done for our Adepticon Story. I just did a nice little one. I'll post that once its all done.
I think all that's really left is to make a give away objective. I'm not sure what I want to do yet but I think it should be something Tiger Claw-esque. Perhaps a memorial objective or a dead marine. Nothing to extravagant.
Thanks guys. I have been very pleased with the trenches. It makes me want to have a whole new board of nothing but trenches. Snow trenches perhaps!
On a more serious note. I picked up my titan today. Actually, Whalemusic's titan to be specific. It however didn't fair too well on the trip over here. The next few pictures are rather graphic, please view them at your own risk.
Spoiler:
Here are some images of the fallen pieces. I actually found several more after I had taken these pictures. The picture with the missing hip tubing really sums up most of the damage. All in all, six of those tubes broke off completely and nearly every one left on the titan needs one of its ends reglued.
This last picture is of some minor paint damage. I don't know what it rubbed against but something tells me it wasn't shipped that way.
On a lighter note, all of the broken pieces look fantastic. Great job Ramos on the paint job!
As you can see more terrain has arrived. Not all of it will be on the display. I just happened to have it out so I could see how it traveled. It fared much better then the titan but still had a couple broken spikes and dislodged pieces. Moonpie and I did get some more details on the board completed. We added some blood splatter and some additional washes. We tried a heavily diluted wash around the craters. Tell me what you think about that one.
Also, my terminator from Knightley arrived. He looks fantastic. After Adepticon I'll be working on a neat little base for him.
The front of Librarian Harimau is now completed. I have one more thing to do to his shield before that's done.
Today I also made some serious progress on two objectives today.
Still lots to do on these. Immediately after taking this picture and cropping it I noticed the blatantly horrible mold line on the back pack. That has since been fixed. Still need to do lots to the heads and some highlights on the alarm system. I've also done some serious writing. My adepticon fluff is ready to go. Now I need to get some paper and then age it and do all sorts of fun stuff to that. OH, I also based another flier base for Moonpie. What a day!
In other news, the packing has been started. So far I have three boxes of stuff that aren't even mine ready to go. A case of models, that also aren't mine. And one small case of Tiger Claws, MINE.
Objective markers are one of those things that I take great pleasure in painting, and I have no idea. I think it has something to do with them representing some focus of some kind.
Or I just like painting weird cables and stuff.
I really dig the Librarian, and as always your multi-colored purity seals.
Thanks Cutthroat. In my Tiger Claw army I made all of my purity seals match one of my allies colors or kept them gray. My librarian has several green seals for the Mantis Warriors, Yellow for the Lamenters, and on his right leg you'll see a camo'd clothe, thats for the Executioners. It makes for a much more vibrant look, that's for sure. I haven't really done to many objectives but I think I need to spend some time making some more of them. You use them for nearly every game and you're right, they are the focus of the game. After Adepticon I may have to make some Ice Angel objectives.
You can make some Red Scorpions and Marines Errant seals for after the repent. Oh wait, you are traitor scum FOR LIFE!!!
Like the objectives btw. Funny enough the power cores (which I forgot about til today and won't get paint) use that same lap piece, almost like that's what they plug into.
Smoky haze lazily wafted across the torn landscape. The air seemed to vibrate with the echo of yesterday’s violence. Librarian Harimau looked down from the last standing sky shield on this side of town.
“Town” he chuckled at the thought. Behind him was a bombed out skeleton of what used to be New Barriban. With a side glance he looked over his shoulder. The main munitions warehouse stood defiant, its void shield crackling against the floating debris. Every block around the warehouse however was a different colored pile of rubble only one other building stood.
“The Flounder Pounder,” Harimau marveled at the fortune that smiled on the quaint fish shack. Unlike his Chapter Master, Lufgt Huron.
The Emperor protects, he thought to himself before he curled his lip in anger at the thought of Lufgt Huron. He hadn’t heard what had happened on the other side of Badab but no communications had been passed since Valthex alerted him of their attack. No reinforcement’s only endless waves of targets. He adjusted his force axe as he strode to the edge of the landing platform. His psychic powers tingled as his anger attempt to rise to the surface of his thoughts. He looked down at the few remaining men at his command to give him another target of his focus.
To his right, a small detachment of Executioners waited for the coming battle. The dark camoed marines waited in the trenches and behind the barricades. Harimau momentarily thought of the blocked messages that were meant to reach the captain of the Executioners.
The rest of the Executioners had turned their back on Huron and his Tiger Claws just like the Lamenters and the Mantis Warriors, those pathetic excuses for allies. Here they were alone on Badab, only this small contingent of Executioners had been tricked into staying. Not that it mattered at this point.
A crash of rubble echoed in the distance. Harimau felt the marines around him tighten their weapons.
“Who is it this time?” Harimau sneered at the smoke ahead of him. He scanned the road to his left. It was a shredded remnant of what it used to be. Destroyed vehicles and indeterminable bits of armor painted a colorful mosaic amongst the dark brown, grassless field to his right.
Yellow and red from the pathetic Howling Griffins dotted the field. Filthy dull green of the Raptors could be seen by destroyed rhino hull. The crushed body of a Space Shark made him smile as remembered watching the speeding vessel get taken out by a unit of Tiger Claw devastators.
“What are you sensing cousin?” Captain Hax Von Rabbinschmidt of the Executioners asked. “Our auspex is not registering anything useful.”
Librarian Harimau calmed himself with a deep breathe. He reached out with his Emperor granted skills. He felt the ancient tormented forms of dreadnoughts marching towards them. An image of a red scorpion flashed on a grey back drop. He twitched before yellow stars fell before his minds sight. The half turquoise armor of a marine on a jet bike crossed his thoughts. Then a snarling machine spirit padded into the corner of his psychic veil.
Librarian Harimau’s eyes snapped open.
He opened his vox to all units, “Bless our weapons and load the last of our munitions. Next attack is eminent. Launch the Talon and Hax, get your Raven off the ground.”
The cold calculating voice of Hax responded, “how severe is it?”
“Tonight, cousin Hax, we dine with the Emperor and finally get to sort out this mess.” Harimau spat.
While writing up some other stuff I churned out this little thing. I don't really have any use for it so I figured I'd at least share it with my faithful viewers.
In addition to being exciting about going to Adepticon to see everybody and game all weekend. I'm also super excited for Adepticon to be over so I can get back to my other writing projects. I think you'll enjoy my other little piece that'll accompany the display board.
Why yes Whale, we were hoarding RS pads and bits to crush beneath our boots and dirty on our objectives.
We've found that if we use objectives that have a positive to them, such as "go save this persons life" or "go get this thingy to save the day" . The results weren't very exciting. On the other hand, when the objectives are more negative, such as "go kill that traitor" "go recycle their stupid shoulder pads" "go break their things". We've been much more successful. Typically I've found that I more often capture my enemies objectives then I do my own. I don't know why that is but I figured if I made an objective covered in garbage, such as anything Red Scorpion related, you know, anything with little to no value other then bragging rights, I'd be more inclined to get it.
I think your two "captains choice" games are going to be with loyalists, try to grind some Imperial Truth into you. Sounds like you need it, spending to much time with those orange traitor scum.

HA! That just made my day Whale. I would actually prefer to not play any games with moonpie. Not only does he smell like moldy cigarettes and BO, he also has a terrible habit of loosing. I hope he doesn't read this before he comes over today, lol.
*throws can of body spray in luggage* I will actually most likely do just that all around, so Ramos and I get to play with you two more games, as we get to hang once a year. Unless out lists just totally don't mesh at all. Even then, unless we somehow are doing amazing, I'm not gunna sweat it to much.
Reminds me of when we had a big megabattle at a Games Workshop, with a bunch of Tyranids on one side, and the BO was awful... and the manager grabbed a can of Axe bodyspray and relabled it "RAID" and ran by and sprayed the whole team.
Ya'll should do battle reports of whatever games you end up playing, for whatever you can remember. Take pictures!
I have returned from Adepticon and started up a recap thread. RECAP THREAD
It was awesome, by the way. My Tiger Claws fought valiantly but often found them nearly all dead. We didn't manage to pull out any wins but we did get some draws. My MVP was the librarian. In four games he only died twice. In two other games he was the last man standing for our entire team.
Okay, I have finally finished up loading a large folder worth of Adepticon pictures to dakka. Go enjoy! Here, however, I'll be heading right back into P&M modeling mode. I have a lot of things floating around my desk at the moment SO lets bring this back to Ice Angel's List of things to do!
Ice Angels
Get some blue face on some terminators
Paint 5 more space hulk terminators
Convert my Tiger Claw Terminator into an Ice Angel
Paint my sanguinary guard
make a kill team
Orks
put some together
paint any of the mob laying around
finish up the bikers
Terrain
Repaint my display board and turn it into a kill team board
make hydra terrain
make rubble terrain
make collapsed pillar terrain
convert the mantis warrior display board into a piece that'll fit moonpies board
hmmmmmm, i thought writing out a list would help me. Instead I now feel a bit over whelmed. Oh well, time to get crackin!
Little to report on the modeling front other then I finished putting some ork bikers together. Pictures will be in the near future.
On a side note, GAME OF THRONES SPOILER DO NOT CLICK UNLESS YOU'VE SEEN SEASON 4 EPISODE 2.
Spoiler:
I'm so glad King Joffrey is dead. Gah, what a tool. I have to give some credit to the kid that played him. I will, however, automatically never like whatever other part that actor plays in because I'll first think about him playing the king. Similarly to the actor that played Agent Smith in the Matrix. When he shows up in Lord of the Rings I can't help but hear his voice in my head, "Mr. Anderson." Wow, that was a tangent, sorry, back on target.
Okay, finally some WIP pictures. Ready? HERE WE GO!
First some orks.
Next we have a picture of display board from Adepticon 2014.
Now, after winter struck the land it turned into.
Lastly, I've been going through old boxes and recycling / throwing things away. In one closet I found an OLD piece of terrain that is rather dear to my heart. It is merely rocks glued onto a piece of thin cardboard and with some torn up Styrofoam. This may sound lame and sentimental but this piece of terrain was built when Necromunda came out, whenever that was. At the time it was my favorite piece. We made up rules for the toxic sludge and had hundreds of battles around it. I can't tell you how many people fell into it from an over hanging walk way. Of all the necromunda terrain I created over the years we were playing, this is the only one I kept. I think this little piece of my childhood needs to be repurposed. I'm not sure how to do it but I think it needs to see one more battle.
Any one have any suggestions on the best way to save this piece?
I dunno about that terrain. Nothing a bit of pain and some water effects can't fix. And maybe more sand and shale to clean up the edges? You certainly have the skills for it.
Thanks Chemical. I think I need to leave it out in front of me for a couple of weeks so I can stare at it until a good solid plan comes to mind. While I'm in the terrain mood I think there may be some ruins in my near future. RUINS!
It may be my nostalgia too, but I think you just keep it as is. Its sheer amateurishness reminds me of where we came from. Also, looking at it does make me cringe... I know that several poor Cawdor House members just trying to spread the Emperor's Light and maybe make some scratch received horrible scars and old battle wounds from that ugly pool of filth. Love-hate relationship with that thing..
Well I can actually check one thing off my list. I updated my Ice Angel Terminators. Actually, I'm not even sure if this was on my list of things to do. Here's a little back story! Knightley was sending me a terminator and he stated that he'd like to paint it like an Ice Angel. With that in mind he looked at my terminators and painted a fantastic terminator for me. However, I was never fully satisfied with the way I had painted my own terminators so I gave Knightley a suggestion for the one he was working on. A few days later I got a picture of a fantastic terminator with a blue helmet that worked great. Once I had received his terminator in the mail I then went about updating some of my completed terminators.
The gentleman in the back row by himself is the terminator that Knightley sent me. Soon he will be on his own icy base.
Thanks guys. I'll have to see what i can do for a close up Solar. I'm close to finishing the conversion of my librarian. Then I think some more terminators are on the docket.
In my Ice Angel collection I think I have around 30 old pewter terminators. They are all painted, but not very well. They are really terrible models compared to the newer ones AND they are on the wrong size base now. What should I do with them? Thoughts?
If you are gonna use them, then keep them on the 25mm base and glue that to a 40mm, that way they are slightly raised and about the same height as a new plastic terminator.
I had to do that with my old metal terminator rune priest, and metal terminator libby.
I have 10 of the pewter Space Wolf Terminators and like you, I think they look awful next to the newer plastics, so I can't ever see me using them. Except as fodder for an apocalypse game.
Either that or as test models for new paint schemes?
IceAngel wrote: In my Ice Angel collection I think I have around 30 old pewter terminators. They are all painted, but not very well. They are really terrible models compared to the newer ones AND they are on the wrong size base now. What should I do with them? Thoughts?
Shouldn't be too hard to get them off the old bases, right?
I'd be tempted to strip them and put them on ebay, personally... not sure about terminators but people tend to pay decent amounts for old metals in general.
Yeah those old metal models are a waste... The statuary idea is a nice idea, but it probably won't use more than 3-4 models... Except if you make a whole cathedral with them ?
Memorial Day is going to smash my face in. We did over 2000 people last year and this year we have X-Men and Godzilla, so I'm looking at a good ol' teeth kickin'.
I have the Rules and Psychic Cards preordered at Game Preserve and they are giving double points for buying both. I also REALLY want that Occult Mysteries book for PF.
Once I get the rules digested we absolutely have to get a game in, no ifs ands or buts.
Did you order the fancy limited edition rule set? When will you be able to pick them up?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, I almost forgot. I've been slowly working on painting the last of my Tiger Claw tanks. After that I'm going to sell them all. They've been good to me but they do not see ANY use except at Adepticon and frankly, I don't want to play them at Adepticon any more, lol. I'll have to take lots of army pictures when they're all done. I ended up with more points then I expected.
Yggdrasil wrote:Oh my, really ?!? I loved your Tiger Claws !!!
On a side note, what date is Memorial Day ? June 6th ?
Thanks Yggs. I've really enjoyed them but I don't plan on getting any more and I'd rather send them some place where they may get some use. That, and I'm hoping to use the funds for some other modelling projects.
whalemusic360 wrote:Selling it?! Oh nos, then you are fo sho not planning a return trip to Adepticon!
I'll definitely be back at Adepticon just not with my Tiger Claws.
Just getting regular books. Maybe I would consider getting the special edition if I was finished fixing my tooth, had a new couch, paid of my student loans, or basically did anything else with my money. At least I am out of Adeptidept.
whalemusic360 wrote: Joining team Cheesey xenos scum? Or rocking the Ice Angels in singles?
Neither. I'll probably rock the Angels in the team tournament but not for next year maybe 2016. That'll give me plenty of time to update their paint jobs.
