Apologies for the rubbish speaking, you forget which thread your on after a while.
Your the mad person of a million titans, well done on that. Do you build them from the mental hospital or are you supervised at home by mental health proessionals.
I keep contemplating a titan build, but then I remember the rule of sticking to one project at a time, or none get finished.

Do you have an estimated total of the hours invested in each?
Lots....
less than I thought it would take, though...
So far.....

That's because I look at the Tiger (and now the spider) and just think 'I can't be bothered right now.. I'll do it later'. It'll get done.. eventually... xD
I have free time next week, mayhaps I'll get to work on it then.
oh i've been watching, but to be honest i've gotten so lazy that i know people by pictures. not names (but im used to childes change) so having no random picture confuses me!
Confusion is normal round here.
So are we saying I need an avatar picture now. As well as being the least organized person in the world, I'm also the least decisive, so it could take me a while to find something.
Im not the greatest painter unfortunately, I never really had the eye for it. Give me a drawing board and I can throw out projections and plans as quick as you like.
Im slowly getting better, when i first started, i was one who'd lightly coat in a single colour and leave it. The years have instilled some patience.
I do have a nicely painted tyranid army though, as my girlfriend thinks theyre cute.
Your airbrush on your thread does keep making me want to try mine again. I used it once and ended up with varying shades of colour
Tyranids, cute? thats the first time I've heard that said
anywho, Painting like most things Montrano is something none of us are good at to start with. just be patient and you'll get there. even the likes of the legendary Joe Hill were crap to begin with

if you didn't wash them, they would stink to high heavens anyways. Dogs just are not clean animals. A dog doesnt care where it gaks, whereas a cat chooses somewhere that won't be dangerous to itself to stop predators tracking them.
..you really have no idea what you are talking about, or this is based on your own subjective experience entirely. Dogs are pack animals, and therefore, no matter how domesticated the breed, still retain some instincts of a pack animal. Where they gak and piss, and even rolling in something stinky is entirely on-purpose, and intended for territorial purposes.
Their noses are so advanced that over half of their brains are dedicated to the act of smelling.
Automatically Appended Next Post: ...they are completely voluntarily loyal to their humans and therefore can be trusted, where as a cat may eat your eyeballs out
lols not arguing, just saying what the discovery channel said
Either way, dogs are gak imo, and from experience will bite with very little reason or provocation. I have been bitten several times by varying breeds of dogs.
a kennel is different than forcing them to live in a cage. They sense fear, and trained properly a dog will NOT bite. Unfortunately there are some people with dogs that should be traeated exactly the way they treat their dogs.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Dogs offer companionship as well as performing practical help for humans. A cat cares about itself, and that is it.
Cat's are proven therapeutic animals, the instinctively know when you are ill and sacrifice attention for themselves to give their owner the attention instead. their affection has been proved to increase the therapeutic chemicals of the body to help you push through illness. My cat is far from selfish.

well... speaking for dave here... i think your statement might be a bit problematic
IF i had to choose a pet for our family... it would totally be a dog... but as we alllive already cramped in a way too small flat as is... a pet regardless it´s sahpe is out of question... for better of the dog and us...animals need their space as much as we...
and i lived for some time with a dog and likewise later on with a cat... the dog was untrained to the limit... the day it finally got in by accident into the sleeping room of my mum and dad it hobbled on three legs through the room peeing around to mark its newfound territory... my mum and dad really asked for this... they had it coming^^... my cat i had to get rid off... i couldn´t hadnle her and she was a little furry ball of mischief... no further explaination you will get from me^^
All the neighbours cats gak in my garden so no contest, plus the issues you raised are due to the dogs ownership rather than the dogs nature, maybe you should point the finger of disgust at them.
Also (not meaning all cat owners) I find most cat owners around me have them as they are lazy pet owners, all they seem to do is let them in for an hour so the kids can scare the crap out of them and then kick them out again to gak in my garden.
Lols, I point the finger at both the dogs and their owners when they are like that. as all in all the owers are the dogs pack, and as such there's been no setting of the alpha role.
With cats, Mine is a house cat, and people I know have house cats too. in this day and age where people take airsoft rifles and shoot them, and roads busier than ever, its hard to imagine why people would let cats roam the streets. any, because my cat is a house cat, she behaves differently to outdoor ones. and knows boundaries.
But I'm going to stop now as I don't want to cause arguments.
No argument here I feel all animals have a place in the world, its this thing we call the human species thats the fly in the ointment so to speak, after all it pisses me of when dog owners let their dog gak every where and leave it.
This gets me a bad name and I pick up after mine, not a thing I enjoy but after all I took on the responsibility, plus I aint a cat lover but under no circumstance would I harm one and any one who does or any animal should be twated in the head repeatedly until dead.
I see your point lols, but unfortunately I see more bad dog owners than good ones, so my view is warped on it. especially as out wooden fence has dogs urinate on it constantly which has rotted it. If only I could send the bill for a new one to ever dog owner which has allowed it.
But when Cats gak in my garden, it does the flowers wonders ;P
today we went to a flea market... built a big playmobil castle and did other things that prevented any hobby work... so i feel your pain... just trying to nudge you a bit
i know... but rest assured...even if you just slip us some tiny image you have achieved so much more than we... in fact my whole work hobby wise doesn´t come anything near what you already have chucked out...
OK, so not so big of an update as I wanted to do.... But I am making progress so here it is:
I have gotten the detail on the toes started and:
Nearly finished on four sets of legs. Today I will get the legs standing on the feet and hips to gether for these four or six if the times allots itself.....
Overall,
My assembly line is getting much more lean as the pieces go together and take up less room. I have decided that four of the warhounds (those that would be mone specifically) will be waiting til the others are done. The reaver and thunderhawk will also be started tonight. I know I have said that before, but the plan on the thunderhawk is to have it finished this week.
That isn't too far a goal to set as this one has no lights or interior I truly think it can be done completely if not at least to about 90% by Sunday. The Reaver on the other hand requires WAY too much details in the smaller range to finish within another two weeks.
This build is proving to be one of the most monotonous I have ever undertaken......
Still love it and am excited about it but, damn it, the humdrum parts replication was bad for my soul.....

I think that I am gonna start that soon though. When this is done I want to do so much other stuff that my head spins at the thoughts of it all......

Then it will be riveting party time for LSG, Brother Paen and me....
mate... you have to stop short selling your updates...! really... has anyone out there any idea of what you always show us? that work you do is tideous and massive... and way more repetitive than i could come up with...and you do it to a degree of perfection that is really hard to decide wether it is mouthwatering or making me feel green with envy...
Thanks Vik. I really appreciate it. Especially seeing as how I am trying hard to get my work to commercial level. Lots more to do and learn to get there, mate.....
Automatically Appended Next Post: If it mattes I hope the grewn with envy wins out....
actually i think your stuff is bound to be very commercially usable...(did i made myself clear?) what i fear is that you wont ever get the amount of money you put your time in these projects... no one really could adequate pay you for these... when i see a warhound or something similar on ebay they pack a hefty price... i don´t think you will charge someone enough for these beasts of metall/plastic... but that is something most startups err on... even tho i know that too high prices keep the customers away...
i guess at the end of a project like this you have to still be in the good numbers when it comes to having fun with a project...instead of seeing it just as a from of extra income...
i like the variety in the poses you did... it´s details like this that keeps it a bit less monotonous for you i bet. and again...quite speedy work you do mister with all these...

Funny as it is in truth the lack of variety that made me happy. The legs are all at the same angles its just that the upper torso rotates so the all appear different.

well in essence their pose is everytime almost the same... almost... but these nice lil twising of the torso brings a bit of diversity to them...and yes... i can see why this might be a bit of a strain to do the hydraulics over and over again...i cross my fingers for you!
nawww... don´r be mean to the man... i know these interuptions pretty well too...we have to keep our enthusiasm for new shiney pics to a ceretain friendly degree!
Well, I discovered that my Lucius Pattern main hulls
sucked....
I am going to have to redo them....
In other news, My FLGS owner gave me this he found in a box of random W40K minis he bought:
It turned into this (without any glue or sprue trimming mind you, it is a snap together model...):
It has three different little guys to go onto it. They are made from some soft rubber though and are deformed from sitting in the box:
This one was missing an arm, too. Bummer...:
With the lasers that came with it to project from the from cannons and the dude installed it is quite a long model....
Nearly 11 inches.....
Also, on loan (for measurement and picture purposes) from my good friend Larry (for whose son the Khorne Warhound was made):
Apparently, Larry is a master of Ebay and New Old Stock (NOS)....
I have been doing some fairly extensive dry fitting to make sure I know how this thing goes together so that I can scratch out a couple of really good ones to be made into Plague Lords.....
Without a set of instructions it took a good twenty minutes to figure out how the drive wheels went together....
Oh, and I am up to eight standing Warhounds (if you don't count the Lucius patterns that have no main hulls now....)
I am hoping to rectify that issue with a redesign this weekend and finish all three of the Lucius as well I will be finishing the weapons for the Reaver and starting the other three reaver bodies. I do not espect any issues with the Reavers but the Lucius presented a special problem that I failed to anticipate. When I finished the Khorne Warhound I had a vary good set of templates but failed to translate them well to a lucius pattern and when it came down to building them they sucked.....
We shall see, however......

Sir! Your work is amazing, the thunderhawk was beyond my wildest dreams and the warhound project is insanely awesome. It is such a shame that you had to scrap them but such is the pain of being a perfectionist! Don't let it put you off, I must see the finished product!

Intersting thing about smashing of the hulls one of them held the fullness of my old fat ass for nearly a minute whilst I was standing on it with one foot. I had to twist almost 90 degrees on that foot to get it to crush....

Sorry to hear about the RL chaos... Hope things settle down soon.
I don't think it is sequiter but it is what I am doing....
I figured out how to get the Lucius pattern hulls good but am thoroughly fed up with them at the moment so I have moved on to some Reaver action and just because TME is doing a couple of them I wanted to go ahead and do a tut style build on the two I want to throw together....
It starts with 16 1 inch squared pieces of .040 styrene....
Add 32 of these:
With a littl bit of angle PC you get a couple sets of these:
These will become the toes.....
Moving on to the foot pads:
These are about 2.25 inch diameter....
Four of them get a 1.25 inch diameter hole cut into the center as such:
Take a 16 inch strip of 3/10ths inch wide .040 thick PC and cut it into four equal sections and make a ring out of each so you can do this.....
Put on the other circle:
And add these:
The smaller domes are inserted into the end of a 3/4 inch long section of 1/2 inch styrene tubing and will be used as hydraulic cylinder bases.....
Ok, so that is what I got for tonight. Tomorrow I will finish the toes and the hydraulic cylinder bases and put the lower leg together..
I have also put the main hull of a thunderhawk together and tomorrow, as well, I will tut the wing structure construction....
I leave you with this:
Forge Master Maxwell wrote:When I am done, here will stand the pride of the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Legio Titanicus. Bowing is authorized.......
those spheres always amaze me! one of these days i wold like to see a step by step...although i know it might be tricky doing that with the heatgun you have to move quick i bet...
Ok, so I got no time last night. BUt here is the Tut on the domes. Sorry no video. My videographer is still asleep this morning.
Step the first:
Obtain some items for use to shape the domes....
they can be little wooden or rubber balls cut in half:
Or other shapes, in so long as they are symetric in shape and have a flat bottom....
Get your PC and lay it on top of the form item. This PC can be pretty much any thickness but I have found that .040 is the best as it offers stability and strength after the shaping that can be degraded in thinner PC. Also, make sure that there is plenty of card around the edges of the form item. If not you can get some pretty bad ripples aroun the edges of the dome.
Now you need an item that fits over the form item (a shaper so to speak) with about X space difference (where x is the thickness of the PC being used. You need this space obviously because the PC is going to be between the form and the shaper. If the fit is too close instead of shaping the dome it will rip the hot PC and tear it apart....
I have a variety for different sizes and am still looking for things to use on other sizes and shapes.....
Heat with Heat gun. Yes a paint stripping gun will work but a variable temp one is best because you can play with it to get a good setting for different thickness PC. Also, My missuss uses this one as well for embossing with stamps and polymer dust so it needs a lower setting and fan speed.........
Heat evenly moving around the edge of the form item so that the PC falls around it and for the most part let gravity do the forming.
But when you have a good and evenly soft piece of PC grab your shaper item. For this dome (which I need two of for each reaver hip) I am using half of a Christmas tree ornament. It is a soft plastic and wears out occasionally but was cheap and easy to replace so it doesn't matter. Press the shaper down around the form item with even pressure and try to go all the way to the table but be careful because if you have overheated the PC it will bunch up, tear or stretch thin.
One of the reasons my shaper for this size wears out is because the heat of the PC transfers from the PC to the shaper so be careful that you don't burn yourself. IT WILL BE HOT!!!!!!!
DON"T BLAME ME FOR BURNS!!!!!!!!!
Anyway pop out the form item and pop off the shaper and trim the dome. I am experimenting with a different kind of shaper. A flat piece of pressboard with a hole in it. SO that the PC around the Dome itself can be flattened out. It may save PC and also allow for building domes into walls.
One thing to remember about the domes this method provides is that the surface area around the edge of the dome is as narrow as the thickness of the PC used. THis means that there is very little actual gluing surface to work with. it is helpful to leave a little lip around the dome and instead of gluing the dome down to a surface, cut an appropriate sized hole in the surface (if possible) and glue the dome in from the underside. Or if the edge of the dome isn't going to be seen then leave a little extra lip for flat surface to surface contact....
Good luck and see ya at lunch for some Thunderhawk wing Action........
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok, lunch time update....
Before you ask: Yes, I have several thunderhawk main hulls assembled just laying around to start the odd Thunderhawk with. Thats why there is no build photos of the main hull. If anyone wants that tut, PM me......
I have found that I have several ideas I want to push through with that model and I want to do several. I was thinking I wouldn't do too many more but during the Electro-Hawk build I found several different ideas kept coming up through my mind and I want to do them. Anywho......
I started with the wing panels and I needed four of them:
Mark wing location on the hull...
Line up infrastructure on the wings:
Line up the infrastructure on the wing panels with the hull so I know where to put the mounting tube:
You see the rectangular tubing inside the wings for support nest into a same shaped tube mounted inside the main hull. Keeps em even and flat. This was a dremel cut for accuracy....
Sand them down:
Once both wings have a set of long internal braces glued down we have to add some additional braces to keep the edges of the panels an equidistance apart. Otherwise when we start putting edging on they have a tendecy to pinch together and you geth a thinner wing edge. This may be acceptable on other aircraft but not on a Thunderhawk. On a thunderhawk we need bricks for wings....
Now we add the other panel and PC around the edge of the wing...
When all the edging is done we will need to go back over it and put on the armour panels but that is for another day....
Tonight (after my M:tG playtest session at the FLGS) I am going to start putting the legs of the Reaver together. I have to make a few more hemispheres and cut some 1.5 inch pipe so get ready to see some power tools.....
Hopefully at least one set will be standing tonight......

Automatically Appended Next Post: Good to see ya back around, Fish....
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok, so I only got an hour tonight but I think it was a worthwhile hour...
I started the lower legs for two Reavers. I am trying to get these caught up to the other two so that I can finish them altogether....
It begins with these:
I promised power tools....
That is my Rockwell Bladerunner Table saw. This thing is amazing. Cuts PVC in thinner slices than than your dealer cuts your coke and can scroll saw plywood from 1" thick down to 1/8" thick in a 1/8" arc. That's Fething cool I don't care who you are......
Above you see four three inch sections of 1" PVC Schedule 40 and four three inch sections of 3/4" PEX tubing. The pex is easier to cut than PVC, cheaper (but not by much) and has the added benefit of being bendable to a great degree, though I have found no use for that purpose yet....
You also see four rings of 1" PVC cut at right about 3/16" thick. Yes, there actually five in the photo. One broke while I was cutting it. More on those later....
First I had to prep the 3/4" PEX tubes with some 1/2" wide masking tape. I wrapped the end of the tube to a thickness that allowed the pex to fit into the larger PVC with no wiggle but without having to force it in. The tape was chosen for this job because the simple act of wrapping it ensured that an even amount of filler was placed around the PEX so that it would sit perfectly in the middle of the PVC. I probably could have wrapped it in PC and sanded it down but the only other easier way was to get nesting tubing so that the fit perfectly but that doesn't exist in these sizes that I have found. Once they were wrapped right I trimmed the tape from the end of the PEX leaving 1/4" of PEX exposed. That measurement is important for later.....
Prepping the 1" PVC consisted of beveling on edge at about 1/8 inch bevel.
More power tools on that on. This time a sanding drum on my Dremel. Man, I love that thing....
Get all the PEX tubes set into the PVC and glue both down to some .040 PC on the non-taped end. Because the PEX and PVC (if not sanded properly) is slightly resistant to CA you gotta give this a minute to cure....
So set them aside and grab these:
I told ya more on these later, didn't I?
Question: What is the circumference of a 1" diameter circle?
Answer: 3.14"
Why? Because the Circumference of a circle is equal to pi*Diameter....
So, since we are dealing with schedule 40 PVC, and the diameter is 1", this means that the interior wall of the PVC pipe (Schedule 40 uses the inside measurement of the pipe to classify the pipes size) is 3.14 inchs in circumference......
So I cut a strip of .030 PC that is 3.14" wide and minimum 6" long and cut it into 4 1.25" strips. Yes that is longer than I needed but haveing extra never hurts....
These strips will fit neatly into the rings above (when properly curled like christmas ribbon prior) as so:
But can be difficult to get in correctly so I had to pinch them this way:
Remember that these strips were 1.25" right? Well, you should also remember that the tape was trimmed .25" from the end of the PEX tubing right?
Yes, once the ring is installed on the tubing Of PC it gets inserted into the top of the PVC and fitted all the way down to the tape. This ensures that only 1" shows above the end of the PVC and will help keep the sections all the same length....
But, alas, I said I only got an hour or so tonight so that was all I got done. I leave you with a taste of tomorrow.....
I may even get some armour plating on that thunderhawk.....
and there he goes again... chucks out yet another cool step by step...be sure i read every word you write mate! your stuff is too excellent to scroll through
and you even revived my school time a bit with that maths^^ what a dirty man you are to let yourself get involved with numbers like PI lol...
by the way... the current works... i still wonder what part that is... but i will just sit and wait patiently for our next lecture
I did have fun gaming. I fact drafted tonight as well and took first place.
Never heard of nova weld. Will check it out...
No, just a shop vc that isnt strong enough to do its job properly so will probably replace it. May put a sawdust bin on it in the house we buy in vegas, though. Yes the saw ia amazing.....
I have determined I don't get time to build on the weekend but can do multople tutorials each working week day.

Has any one else ever seen the quick reply submit button turn into a "go" button?
Automatically Appended Next Post: It just did that to me......

I'm not sure if I'd ever seen this thread, but after spending some time going through pages I am subbed and will be following this with attention. Your scratchbuild skills are amazing and your workshop makes me sickly jealous. At very least I have to get a drill press! I can't imagine how many times I have said "wow, I could really use a drill press" but was thinking about some huge piece of equipment you'd see in a machine shop. I had no idea they came in miniature size! Just another expense to add to the "want" list.
Incredible stuff here, and I'll keep digging through it as I can.

A big 'un works as good as a little one it's just less convenient. The Dremel workstation is nice if you are ok with Dremel speeds. Micromark sells a mini press for basically a little too much. I like my belt driven press I can run it as slow as 800 RPM and as fast as 4200 and it's quiet.
@ dstein & AustonT- Just looked up prices and read reviews on Dremel Workstations. That is AWESOME! I'll be dropping about 100 hints over the next few days about ideas for a Father's Day present.
After the mass build is over I may just do that. I haven't found any time to build lately though and it is getting frustrating. This weekend will show some good progress though.
I may just time lapse video it and put that up......
I can't let myself order anything from MicroMark. I'm on the mailing list and the temptation to have direct deposit from my employer to a MicrcMark account is incredible.
..I should totally be getting paid in free tools for pimping them.....
Speaking of MicroMark...This came in the mail today
Along with the dvd "Introduction to professional model making" with Ron Davis, a Hollywood model-maker.
The call it the "Miter Master"- I've played with it, cut a few angles, it seems ok. I think it will definately take the pain-in-the-ass out of angle cuts, and speed it up too.
Funerals suck, family members always try to make it all about them, instead of the departed, at least in my experience. Of course my family is full of nutjobs too.
hey max.... i am back again... and you had to attend two of these mournful events in such a short time? i hope the persons weren´t too close to you... but my deepest condolencies to you!
mate... if you are loosing your sense of feeling in your fingertips... i would not want to give you unduly panic here... but consult a doc... really... it could be due to a heart condition... could be something with your arteries ... that sounds more grave than funny to me...
(i am not making fun of you... had the odd feeling in my chest too... and sometimes the heart does leave stray pain in your arms... and prickly or numb fingertips i think could be a bad indication...and no i am no hypochondriac...)

Indeed get it checked out if it has persisted for a day or more. Neurological issues are no fun. I have/had intermittent "tingly, numbness" in one of my hands in my case its due to a pinched nerve in my neck caused by a degenerating disc.
Careful about what you joke about then, because as Galorn and Vik said, it sounded bloody serious dude. Similar to symptoms my Grandfather had with his heart troubles before he died.
i think max knows much better... him being married... me too... and a big water between the both of us... it would be too much to bear... and i was never the guy for long distance relationships... even if it is only for pure physical needs...
you know... i am feeling a bit curious... you are recently quite often referring to a certain word... you know the old saying... those that yell the loudest...
damn i go to the pool and i miss this jucy tidbit, oh well i think im going to have to find some thing to sig..
