do you know that zinge does clear lightbulbls out of resin? you probably could use these...heck you could probably use something and scratchbuild them too...for that matter...
and it look very cool...tho can all those cables be hidden inside and still make the interior be used as inteded?
46192
Post by: mxwllmdr
Yes i did know that and am considering buying some of them for another project. Also, the wire aren't going to be visible from either the interior or exterior....
Took me a week to figure out how to do that.......

will you make a doubleflooring?
46192
Post by: mxwllmdr
The floor is single but the walls are double. There is a section of the front bottom that is hollow for the landing gear that was perfect for hiding wires.
We will see where it goes from here for the wing tip navigating lights and tailfin lights.

46192

Well, the average LED outlives the device it is in, but if one should die it is just dead. Although the power being supplied to them is unlikley to burn them out.....

Post by: Horst
It would be a pain in the ass to replace one of the LEDs, but it should be possible.
46192
Post by: mxwllmdr
Yeah, you are right. But it would suck. And require repainting.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
clever idea to hide the cables in tubes...!!!
and yep...the repainting would be the only major cramp i see in a not really needed change of a LED...
47708
Post by: Zebra88
A simple way to change led is to use to ones used in dolls house...they use a....ehm...."thing" (Don't know how to translate) that is similare to a socket, and computer led with two pin can be placed here...when the led die you can replace it easly

Ok, so I got the battery pack installed and power ran to the switch. I still have to add several leads to the wingtips and the tailfin but that shouldn't be too terribly hard with the pack installed because the switch is still outside the body I will have to run more wires throught the body but that, I think easily enough, can be managed through small enough holes.....
I am trying to get as much "dirty work" done before I finish up detail and cleanup because so much o the exterior relies on what wires are running where and how the are ran....
If I had planned better I would not have had to use the tubing to run the wires to the front landing gear structure for the landing lights so I am spending extra time on getting the rest of the wires right the first time.....

Vik, They are box built out of thin PC and needing quite a bit of detailing still... Tha being said both of them are done (minus detail) and attached with all wiring hidden (except the tailfin wires) and the switch installed...... Feast your Eyes.... Yes, the little round thing is the switch..... Yes I think they are a little but biggish but I am using the 3D image Blackadder posted as reference and must say that the bigger wings make it look more like an actual flyable craft. I am worried they may seem too thick.... Let me know what you think....... Tonight more detail and, HOPEFULLY, the tailfin.......
36623
Post by: tme0003
Haha great work bud. A very clever way to hide the switch and all the lights look great, a fantastic touch. Only thing I noticed, which it's probably the picture, but the left wing (right side of picture) seems a bit shorter than the other. Again I assume it's the photo but mayhaps something to check if you still can.
46192
Post by: mxwllmdr
Pics at an angle so it seems shorter. Trust me that was something I triple checked. Just like I triple checked that they weren't upside down or backwards like the last one....
Don't ask.....
BlackAdder doesn't make those mistakes......
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
i particularly like the little hole where you hidden the batteries... i thought horizontal would be the way< to go... but that way is far better...
as for the wiongs... with details they will look way better... what you could to is add a bit of a ...well...band .... to the sides... is that understandable? to take a way the blockyness of the wings... the thickness of the wings i like... after all from what i´ve heard the wings in our universe planes function as tanks as well...so need a bit of thickness to them...
oh and you do realize that those lit shots of the interior are totally mindblasting??? well they are^^
that open ramp is just screaming at you to discharge a platoon worth of fully clad and equiped marines ready to kick some serious buttocks^^
7416
Post by: jabbakahut
On the OG model; the wings are really thick. Blackadders model and those 3D reference photos look really good. I don't think it's fair to say an actual flying craft. Blackadders logic is based upon current tech and scientific understanding. Clearly nothing on the craft could provide lift in the traditional sense. I tell myself that the wings are merely for stabilization, lift is provided by some anti-grav generation somehow. The boxy design aesthetic of space marine vessels is what makes them cool.
46192
Post by: mxwllmdr
Thank you, Vik, I think it turned out well also....
Yes the edge of the wings is getting some treatment. I have to add in some detail layers on the top and bottom first but the edge will not be so blocky when complete......
I do understand about the banding. I like the thought buthoneslty from what I am using as reference I don't know if that will fit. I will look at it again because the oppurtunities to rivet abound with the idea of the banding......
That battery compartment was a royal pain in the arse to install....... Automatically Appended Next Post: OMG I feel so terribly stupid....

er...mate? i don´t want to be a jerk? but aren´t the wings to be meant to be equal in design? there is a point where there should be three gaps and are only two... you probably know what i am taking off... the part that always looks like an angular sawblade on SM vehicles...right wing near the edge...

Trying to make a Stormraven hover on it's base with magnetics for LGS and REALLY hoping to have time to throw that into the mix here and there too........
AND the Forgeworld Maximus Ork infestation is reaching critical mass. Those little buggers are going to have to be addressed eventually.........
And the Ruins of the Forgeworld Maximus Capitol city and Basilica need to be rediscovered and scoured for useable tech......
Now THATS an expedition waiting to happen........

Not really, but the price is only so decent because you have to cut it down yourself into useable sheets. I cut each one into eight equal-ish squares for storage. You could buy it in those squares for not a whole lot more like I believe Dave does. It boils down to whether or not you want to cut it or not be bothered cutting it......

Having figured things out over the last few days (or more) I have gotten this far: I will, now that I have a system that is, have the other engine and all the engine detail done tomorrow. Wednesday I will have the tailfin and upper wings done. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will bring RIVETS!!!!!! and all the final detail to include two sets of landing gear - Retracted and Extended. Each removeable so that either will be useable when necessary. I figured I would leave the working landing gear to the Blackadder, engineering genius that he is. I am hoping that his Warlord titan project actually kicks off as I am planning to do one of these beast myself eventually....... But thats neither here nor there with this thread.... After I finish the Electro-Hawk the Loyalist Reaver is back on the table with it's Lucius Warhound Escorts. I will endeavor to finish them within two weeks as my buddy, whom they are for, is leaving the US for independant study and since he cannot take them he wants to get them stored soon. Thanks guys, I was just having a moment of idiocy...
The lights are all white behind red platic lenses that I allowed super glue to frost over. The one I removed, in order to replace it was a cluster of three 5mm LEDs and the other two are single 10mm LEDs. I think I prefer the cluster for its luminosity but already know that Radio shack has no more of them.....
Which do you guys think looks better? the Cluster or the single one?
I am apparently the only person in this area of Missourri that requires their usage and as such have purchased their entire stock which they have not replaced over the last couple of months. Checking this morning if I can get them from Radio shack online....

I have repeatedly told my bosses in the military just exactly what I thought of them and in completely non-politically correct manners. I have FU'd and flipped birds to people who have very high authority....
I have punched and kicked my superiors and wanted to do it to my subordinates but refrained for fear of getting shot in the back.
What it boils down to is that people know when their opinions, orders instructions, mannerisms, demeanor or procedures are inapropriate and thats when you can get away with verbally murdering someone with absolute control over your livliehood.
I am a huge fan of absolute truth when lives are on the line and believe that even in the civilian world lives are on the line when discussing employment, especially in todays economy.
All that said, it will be single, cluster, single....
For lack of proper supply lines into this godforsaken area of the world it must be this way.
I would have preferred all clusters too as I liked the look......

Sorry if this sounded harsh as it was not meant to only that mxwllmdr mentioned himself he preferred the clusters rather than the single, I meant it would be better to see if you could get the clusters even if it meant waiting to finishing the project to achieve the desired look, nothing worst looking back on something thinking I wish I had
So no harshness intended

46192
Post by: mxwllmdr
Hey, No not removeable, adjustable, like an X-Wing Fighter...
I didn't think it was harsh.... I agreed with you but felt that the LEDs so deep in the jet exhaust cones weren't gonna be to damn bright anyway, so I went with what I could get. Not worried about it though because i think that Horst will be able to use color to his advantage when painting the interior of the cone so that the color is magnified without making it overly bright......
Didn't really think it needed to be overly bright.......

I was having problems finding the right wing thickness to hinge size ratio....
I think I got it but they look nothing like the references I am using. I kinda like the roundness to them.....
They are only tacked on so I can change it but I don't know if I want to...
Check em out....
Also, Some engine detail going on. had to stop, though, because I realized I had not done any GS filling on the inevitable gaps.....
Also worrying me is the size of the upper wings....
They are a little bigger than I think they should be but they look nice....
I need opinions on this as well.....
Lots of rivets to do, so little time in the day.....
I hope to have a very large portion of the detail done to....
Oh, you know what, screw making schedules I know I can never keep....
