Commander Cain wrote:Haha! Just amazing Iffy, you have really mastered the art of skin tones, just the way you fade colours if perfect. My fave is the yellow/plum squig although the zebra one comes in close second!
I ain't going to lie, airbrushing colour fades feels like cheating, but I keep reminding myself it still needs some skill so I feel better. I do rehighlight them very carefully though, which adds some form and shape very subtly.
For the next squigs who are all higher standard and also larger, I'm going to try multiple colours, like patterns. I would love one of the big manglers to have cow spots, or okapi legs or something ridiculously silly like a giant Bumblebee, but it may cause the owner to explode. Lol.

I have 2 REALLY old (90s) sculpts to go on the mangler bases, they are ridiculous. Il'l try and find images of them once I have had my coffee
weetyskemian44 wrote:Pretty colours...
You are my inspiration for the colours on these. I should put a big laminated " WHAT WOULD WEETY DO?" sign over my paints.
inmygravenimage wrote:Beautiful work - that this is "just" tabletop is terrifying. Genius creature you are. Have you considered competition painting?
Daww thanks, they really arent as complicated as they look though. 3 airbrush layers, then 3 paint layers and 1 wash max. That's my tabletop formula, as long as I am neat it can look really nice. I think a lot of the time, what makes "tabletop" look bad sometimes is people get messy with it. If you try and stay quite neat, you can make basic layering look nice even if it is quite cartoony!
As for competitions, well, it's a sore subject for me. I think I would indeed like to take part in competitive painting, but Galway Ireland is not exactly a hub of activity. Any decent sized comps I would go to would involve traveling which I can't really afford, or justify spending so much cash on :( Sometimes I wish I lived in the states so getting to shows and comps would be so much easier. Oh well.

I'm a fan of the yellow one and I just love the striped one! it just looks so feral like that, if you do another one at your better quality i'd love to see some pink blending on the lips into the mouth then it would be perfect imo! I must say i'm a bit green eyed monster at your skills with whatever mini you put in your hands! everything looks brilliant, and i am impressed by your Ultramarine squad too!

Oh wonderful squiggly goodness
Those are gorgeous, I think I'll have to lie down to look at the next level ones.
Gonna have to plump for either the the yellow/plum or the blue/violet - those fades are sublime.
The mouth on the zebra-squig makes me want to remove his teef so he looks like a gummy old squig

I'm loving the fades too
I'm currently painting mockups of designs for the manglers and having a Whale of a time. It's hard to get across the fade ideas when painting over greyscale using GIMP, but I'm going to keep going till the owner see's some he really loves.
Doing it this way means not messing around experimenting on an expensive model I should be painting to showpieces standard.

The red and black one looks the most natural....let's skip that one Very menacing look though.
The grey and white has possibilities if it's pulled off well, and there's no reason to think you won't. Very striking.
The green and blue...could work but I'm not feeling that one much.
Turquoise to deep blue...hmmm, tasty. Love to see that with a really vibrant turquoise and some of that lovely fading
Obviously, just my personal opinions

Lots of suggestions
I really like the red and black because it is natural, and ALL the little squigs are crazy colours. There is something awesome about the big ones being more natural and the little ones being vivid, but I don't know why! The owner is mulling things over and having a laugh with them, I'm still popping out more.
Another natural one and a crazy vibrant one. There are so many options with these it is absolutely crazy. Boyfriend has insisted on a Kratos one, so thats next Perhaps one with a giant skull warpaint on? Oh god Im getting ideas.

Yeah that could actually look really nice too.. Hmm, theres so many possibilities! I'm hoping that by throwing out these basic ones, the owner and mix and match anything he likes into 1 scheme.

Yeah! I would totally have the red paint trickling like on the black guy above and the other one with woad, I just forgot to add the trickles on that one >< These take surprisingly long to do and I am now exhausted, but I will DEFFO be doing this again in the future to help decide schemes.
Painting over a grey scale photo gives you such room for experimentation without worrying about ruining models.

Tough choice.... I think my favourites are the two left ones on the first pic and the blue and red one.... I'm not too sure about that black and white one.... squigs have to be colorful and funny! (though my brother strongly disagrees and says its the coolest one....)

I do like the Punisher Squig there at the end, Ifalna - maybe do a range of mock-ups based of superhero costumes?
Spidersquig? (Red body with Spiderweb pattern, blue legs, red feet, stylised spider face paint)
Squig Lantern (Black & vivid green)
Batsquig? (Black with dark grey underbelly/chest, stylised bat symbol across the eyes)
The Flash! Fastest Squig alive... (Red, with yellow lightning bolts)
I don't think Wonder Squig would work too well.
Aquasquig? (Orange body with scale detailing, with green legs)
Starsquig? (Red body with large yellow five-pointed star, green back, small fin sculpted on head. Alternatively, black body with white feet, with a star field painted on the black areas)
Doctor Squig? (Light blue, with golden yellow face, back and feet)
Star-Spangled Squig? (Light blue body and feet with white stars, red legs)
Hmm - the Justice Society of Squigs...

This was only on page 10 when i left lol.
Really can see your painting getting better and better over time, and at first it was bloody good anyway.
But 2 things.
1: No such thing as too many squigs, as a proud owner of 200+ squigs, i resent that
2: Be careful with the mangler squig, alot of the chain is really weak, but without it, the top squigs leg is the only contact point, which under weight, bends quite a bit.
Ive had to prop up the top squig on all 3 of them with random gobbo's and shrooms between them.

Haha, great that you have seen some improvement! That's exactly what I am aiming for at all times
I guess it is indeed impossible to have too many squigs, they are just too awesome. The manglers are actually going to be on 2 separate bases, so that should not be a problem. They do look waaaayyy too flimsy to stay in their intended position very long.. those chains could so easily snap, let alone the tiny connection point :(
I finished up the character standard gobbo today, and included a euro coin to emphasise how crazy small he is! Click for very big.
Went crazy with skin contrast to help define his features, kept the robe very modest when it came to highlights so the black would not end up a dull grey. Little bit of colour added with the turqoise and red eyes, and he matches the rest of the squig riders very well. Happy with him.
Going to send the shots to the owner and see if I get the all clear
I've been playing around with Livestream to work out the proper settings for recording, I don't think I will be able to stream live painting as I just won't be able to reach the upload quality needed, but I can still record stuff and add them, so thats still good Been having lots of fun streaming Skyrim while chatting to the people in the chat window with the microphone.

Decided to play around with airbrush speedpainting last night for practice, and ended up with a Carnifex 3 hours later
I will definitely be using the same technique again, I am thrilled that the subdued colour choices were mixed together quite well by the acid green claws and mouth Using cartoony stark highlights is definitely an option for me as long as I stay as neat as possible, especially if it means I can get a model that sized completely finished in 3 hours from sprue.
Thrilled, throwing him on Ebay.

Gitsplitta wrote:That's impressive. Are all those little lines on the carapace airbrushed too? I don't think I can get mine that small, even though I think I have a pretty tiny needle.
Everything is airbrushed bar some final highlight layers with a hand brush, the stripes are hand brushed, but theres only 3 layers and they took about 30 minutes, so it was worth it I think. My smallest needle wouldn't be able to do precise striping either, they would have been quite blurry and not what I was aiming for with this.
I went the effort of masking off the claws so I could OSL highlight with the airbrush on the grey but it turned out there was no need to, the recent extreme cleaning I gave my airbrush upped its preciseness quite a lot! Hah.
whalemusic360 wrote:You seem to have an affinity for bright colors. Very nice looking indeed.

Wow, that 3-hours-Carnifex looks great! I have worked 3 hours on small infantry models and got results not nearly up to that skill level...
I own an airbrush myself and would like to use it more regularly - but I really rarely use it, mainly because I'm hesitant to use it indoors, even with open windows. I just read the last 3-4 pages today so I'm not sure if someone brought this up before, but in what workspace do you use your airbrush? Can you recommend some set-up for ventilation and so on? So today was back to work, I did 3 whole things! Wowsers.
I assembled and greenstuffed this gobbo on squig-
Who was a right pain in the bum but I eventually got him together and he is curing overnight. This is the first showpiece model for this commish, which is my top standard.. I'm rather excited. Myself and the owner decided on him being a dark red/orange trailing up to bright yellow on top, with blue warpaint. Going to be lots of fun!
I got a couple more layers down on these giant wolves-
who are also being a pain in the bum as they really don't take paint well, likely due to their casting resin, and I have to let each couple of layers dry for nearly 12 hours before I can layer over it again or it just wipes off >< That should improve as more layers get down though.. hopefully.
And I finished up 3 tabletop test figs for a small Empire commish-
Fighting battles in your pajamas is a great idea lads, kudos. Seriously.

Aye, they have sadly already been washed and fully degreased, the stuff is just like a mirror.. Haha, if it was 50psi I can imagine there was quite a cloud of paint getting into the air every time you used it, I would have had to use a breathing mask in that case. As it is though, I sprayed pretty much all day today and don't feel like I inhaled anything, but I do need to get a brush cleaner jug so I can spray the airbrush cleaner fluid in without spreading any vapor. That stuff is nasty.

An ultrasonic cleaner is something I have had my eye on for quite a while, for the airbrush also. You can get very cheap little ones but I'm not sure if they would do the job very well. What are you using and how much did it cost?

I know, so much stuff to paint! I'm hoping I am past that stage now too and I won't have any flake off, but I am being extra careful anyway, just incase.
Today I spent a while ( a crazy big while) trying to get a nice strong yellow to red fade on the big squig with the airbrush. It was a bit of a lesson in dexterity but I got his bases down and he now looks like a tropical fruity cocktail, so I seriously approve.
(I am super tired and just went with the first batch of photos, they aren't the best, sorry)
Will be starting on shading and highlighting him tomorrow.
I also got quite far with a Nurgly tank -

But while I really like the weathering, I think you should paint some more oil stains on it, right now most of them are on the hatch.....

@logg_frogg and Ifalna: Thanks for the feedback about indoor airbrushing. I've only used a can of pressurized air for airbrushing until now for monetary reasons, and that thing basically does whatever pressure it wants...looks like it's time to pay for a proper compressor and properly adjustable pressure settings!
I think it's cool how you can paint something as bright and shiny as that tropical squig and something as dark, subdued and "realistic" as that plague rhino at the same time. Such different styles, but both look sweet!
PS: Oh, and I agree with MrMerlin about the exhaust pipes. Easily done, but I think it adds so much to the realism of the model!

This is the unit I have been using Iffy
It's pretty much the heaviest duty *home style* unit tha you can buy and it cost me $100 + shipping.
I am quite happy with it but am looking to upgrade to a comercial style unit for approx $130.(similar to this one: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/DSA50SE-SK2-FULL-SET-INDUSTRIAL-GRADE-3L-3-17QT-250W-DIGITAL-ULTRASONIC-CLEANER?item=290604862797&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8247319298606037777)
The important things to look for when purchasing an ultrasonic cleaner are quality of construction and the amount of control you have. more control over heat and time are essential to getting a good clean!
If you are looking it's worth saving the extra few dollars to get into a small comercial/industrial style unit.
Basically if you aren't spending $100 for a new unit you are probably wasting your money and nobody likes that! Automatically Appended Next Post: I almost forgot to mention, Excellent work on the tank!

Ack.. yes. This is so true.
No, I'm going to have to put my foot down, I have to look at how much I'm getting paid and not make this silly, I'd say I've already gone a bit above tabletop with it, adding drill outs is just being unfair on myself and any future clients.

Ah, now this is something I agree with. No point spending even small amounts of cash if the product is going to be a "waste".
I may well invest in one of these, they would save me a lot of hassle in the long run.. my funds have been decimated by Diablo 3 (€60 Blizzard, are you fething for real?) and the webcam I am buying so I can record mini painting and what not, but if I get a few more Ebay sales before this batch of commissions is done, I will prob get one of these soon enough.
I also need to stop overworking commissions I am already doing cheaply I think.. slight epiphany this morning :S ugh. /slaps self

Ohhh man, it was totally the sponge and airbrush, they did nearly all the work! I finished up the tiny commish and the tank today, heres the Empire guys first. Loads of fun, just to tabletop but I sneaked in some wood grain detail cause WHY NOT. Fun trying to make them quite defined looking while not going above tabletop, and working with yellow is always.. enjoyable../cough. And the rhino, which I am super proud of as it's actually the first vehicle I have ever painted! MILESTONE TIME!! Huge pic for zoomy. I think I went above tabletop with this which I really should not have, but I was enjoying myself an awful lot and learned plenty from it. Such as " These things are much larger than I thought and I need to charge more, bigtime. " ugh. There are 6 more marines to be painted in the exact same scheme, but they need to be reassembled after a horrible issue in transit Haha. Capitansolstice wrote:can you show us how you paint that beautiful rhino? I cannae show you how as I don't have any way to record painting at the moment, but a quick walkthrough I posted on tumblr was: Great ageing on the tank! Any tips you can give? Don’t be neat! Seriously, thats the main thing I’ve learned from aging, the neater you try to be the less organic it looks. I airbrushed it from black to bleached bone to dead flesh, then sprayed on mud with dark flesh and bestial brown, then I ripped some sponge up and dabbed on dark flesh and BB again to make rust, followed up by a lighter sponge of boltgun and mithril. I then slapped on a mix of badab and devlin mud with a tank brush and wiped it off any flat panels, then I added some Devlin mud streaks dripping from some hinges. After that was dry, I rehighlighted the chipped areas with mithril and gave it a final touch up of Devlin mud in areas I figured should be darker. It sounds like it takes forever but you really need to focus on making it organic and not spending a long time getting it perfect. Oh and as for the xbox d3, Im guessing paypal? Not sure how else it could work. Torchlight is amazing, I have near 100 hours on the original. God, what is wrong with me. Can't wait for the new one either

Washing a "gorgeous" forgeworld nurgle sorc to get rid of the mold release coating while thinking lovingly about fruity cocktail squig. I'm going to start on those amazing teeth. Yes I am. That should actually be worth an update shot. The Nurgle sorc is going to be a LOT of fun as he is to character standard instead of the tabletop standard the other Nurgle guys were, and I have a lot of ideas for him. Horrible, nasty, gloopy ideas.
The FWODDKOKDRC is going to be a lot of fun, in fact, they will likely all be fun. The models are incredible :O Forgeworld has never failed to impress me.
By the way, I do have a Facbook page just for my painty stuff and would totally appreciate Likes if people do use Facebook and would like updates in that format, they really help as I have had quite a few commissions come in that were " My friend liked your page and I had a look and would be interested in xyz", so it really does help me out!

I would consider myself still a total novice with the airbrush, as I mostly use it for just fading colours together or basic OSL (Object source lighting) highlighting. When you get down to the nitty gritty of the squigs, they have just been brushed their base colour, then faded up to a couple of different highlight colours. It's a lot simpler than it looks, when I get my webcam I will show exactly what I mean.
The tutorials I focused on were mostly the mechanics of the airbrush and how to use it for basic Object source lighting. I think once you get to grips with how to angle the brush so you are only hitting areas that should be highlighted, you can then experiment with lots of different colours and shadings
Dakka has an amazing osl tut here - Click
And I used what I learned from random Airbrush upkeep vids and guides on google, keeping it clean is the single most important thing to know when it comes to getting good work out of it.

Ifalna wrote: I would consider myself still a total novice with the airbrush, as I mostly use it for just fading colours together or basic OSL (Object source lighting) highlighting.
Thanks for the pointers. I guess I need to pull my airbrush out and do some practice. WWII German tank schemes at 1/72nd scale can be so random, it doesn't take a lot of accuracy. I think the fading will be something else. We'll see.

There are just so many options, but I only have 2 squigs!
That means they have to be super iconic, Batsquig and Jokersquig? Spidersquig and Goblinsquig? THIS IS HARD.
Also, for any other EU D3 players, make sure to redownload - https://eu.battle.net/d3/en/blog/4410912 due to the previous installer problem.

Whoah, lots of questions!
Dagirlz wrote:How do you paint so well, how long have you been painting
Practice and research I guess, I am nowadays painting 6 hours a day bar my weekends so its lot of practice which is the most important thing, and I spend a lot of my mornings reading about new techniques or watching tutorial videos or browsing sites for new ideas to try out myself.
I think it's important to not just be stuck with one "style" and be able to paint mini's lots of different ways, so research is a very big help with that
Painted my first mini's in 2006, then stopped for a while and only painted stuff for fun. My tabletop standard now is better than how I used to paint, so you get the idea >< Started trying to lean how to paint the proper way in 2009 when I joined Dakka.
Dagirlz wrote:whats the one technique you would recommend learning as a painter
Brush control. If you are neat and precise you can paint a mini with just 2 highlight colours and have it look really striking, thats kind of my formula for my usual cartoony style, keep it very simple and neat. Neat work = good work, even if you aren't shading or highlighting.
Dagirlz wrote:if you don't mind think you could take a look at my WoP and finished model threads and just drop a comment on how i can improve them. Sorry your just amazing at it.
If you Pm me the links to some of the models you would like feedback for, Ill get back to you later today You have lots of shots up and some are very lovely, so just send me the ones you think you could improve on.

A Dark Knight Joker mangler would be.. AMAZING. Imagine that., the riders on stop screaming at who he was charging at " YOU WANNA NO HOW HE GOT DESE SKARS??"
Taking a time out from this showpiece standard Squig to add up some WIP shots, mostly for the owners benefit First Showpiece mini I have gotten to paint in quite a while, really, really enjoying it.Hopefully the detail difference between him and the other Squigs is noticeable.
Squig is only about 50% done, his skin I am about happy with now, but we need to decide on his blue woad warpaint and add it on top, including lots of little drips and smears. Then he needs his varnish layer, with extra attention to the mouth, then onto his metals... then the goblin.. oh man.
You are getting facebook shots redirected because IM LAZY OK.
Also totally thinking of editing in this background from now on so the mini's don't lose their colours to white glare, though I may darken it a bit further first.

Silvers are done, Squig is done bar warpaint and gloss coating, Gobbo skin is at 90%, just needs final highlight layer, then it’s the robe and wood tomorrow.
I am so very, very tired now.

Omg weets you should get some and paint them up, you would make them amazing, I know it.
I'm in the amazing position of not having to pay bills, so I have to take advantage of the time I have and really push to make this work and improve as much as I can. Doing 6 hours per day is just about right for me as I still have time to get houswork and cooking done, but get a lot of painting done too. Diablo 3 will of course throw a spanner in the works for a few weeks
Gitsplitta wrote:Nice Iffy... knock-your-socks-off vibrant. Love it.
He looks awesome beside all his smaller friends, the Manglers will likely end up just as vibrant, it is going to be fun! I have to say though, highlighting something that fades to another colour is bloody hard, I had to highlight the lines in gradient colours and it took forever. It ended up well though, he looks highlighted but quite naturally I think, the lines don't glare.

That squig is outstanding, I was linked it on facebook and had a total freakout. I want it. Oh my god yes.
The big squig is now officially finished as his warpaint is done, I think I managed to get the same colour idea as in the mockup but I removed the leg stripes as discussed with the owner, and moved the handprint onto his hip a little to allow more dribbly space.
Click for big!
He is a super cool squig for reals!
I am now beginning work on this nurgle sorc who currently just has his base colour down but will start looking fun very soon.
and assembling some guardsmen Busy busy.
Edit: Oh yes, and the results of my d3 marathon -
Barb was for co- op and was a lot more fun to play through act 4 with as the DH was a total glass cannon, but once he entered his late 30's he became hilarious and is now my solo grinder. Starting to stock up gold for the real world AH going live, and DH is the perfect choice for it as all you need is a high max dam bow gemmed for damage and then go nuts with gold+dext gear, then sit back and laugh at how everything is pulp before it even sees you.

Nurgle is always the most fun to paint I think - no clean colours or symmetry and lots of opportunity for corpse humour. Pus, lots of pus.

Oh god, that was just the basic colours down! He will be detailed to the max, he is showpiece standard Oh my god wait and see what I have planned oh man oh man.

HULK AM PLEASED.
So I painted on shades to the skin, then re-highlighted it back up to badmoon. A lot of time but it now looks quite nice I think.
-Eyes are finished and glossed.
-Teeth have base coat and wash down, will be a nice light dirty bone colour when finished.
-Lips and jowls done bar gloss at the end.
The side with the dead gobbo looks a lot greener than the others, its not, its just got a dead gobbo hiding half of where the bad moon should be!
I have to eat something, I had a fainting spell and realised I've not actually eaten since breakfast. This is what being addicted to painting squigs does to you folks. But it is ok because I am now cooking a large ham. LIVING THE DREAM.

Looks beautiful Iffy! Hulk style or not it's a great paint job and looks sweet! I am particularly interested in the Nurgle army though are they all resin so far? I love the models and your paint has kind of kindled a flame for them! my Flesh Eaters marines will have all the models purchased very soon so I'll be able to focus on a new project and dammit they look like fun :-)

Haha I like the red too, but I miiiight change it to be a bit darker, going to wait and see how it looks when the teeth are finished. I agree with the owner that the contrast might be a little too much.
Commander Cain wrote:Fantastic! Those eyes are so lifelike, they have been glossed am I right? Great work, can't wait to see him finished!
Eyes are glossed indeed, a nice gloss over a painted shine gives really nice finishes I find. Really draws emphasis on them on the mini.

Woo The nurgle stuff has all actually been for different owners, the squad of marines were old metal figs, the sorcerer is forgeworld resin.

The eyes stare through my soul........
The green is fantastic, and the purple is better! The one thing is that the lips and gums are really quite red, which sorta clashes with the electric green and the OMYGODPURPLE tones you have going on Come to think of it, once the teeth are finished, it shouldn't be an issue, so no worries, I guess

No squiggys yesterday, sorry folks :( Got smaked with a really bad sinus pain headache thats still going after 24 hours and a neti pot flush, Im hoping it will dissipate today so I can get work done.
At the verge of trying to claim for a medical card so I can afford the sinus spray / imigran I actually need without literally spending everything I earn on tiny pills. Actually quite angry and moany right now which is not normal for meh :(
Sasa I had a look at that sculpt and I am totally confused, thats a LOT of moolah to charge isint it? You can get 2 GW manglers for the same price, or am I crazy? I like it but I would be expecting to pay a lot less for it honestly.

Nah, it doesn't make a difference at this point :( It's sinus pain so its either going to get worse and peak into a migraine, or revert to a dull thud and go in the next couple of hours. Only thing that will make it worse is if I ran around or got my heart rate up, if it was a headache or aura before a migraine, I would just go lie in the dark for a few hours with something cold on my head and sleep untill it left.
Tempted to take imigran anyway if it doesn't go in the next while but they cost 40 euro each factoring in the doctors subscription, so I tend to be scared of using them up. FUN TIMES TODAY! Hah.
Definitely planning on getting some work done either way, 3-4 hours at least, so I have plenty of time for this to pass or take a pill anyway. There shall be shots tonight, this I vow!

I got around to painting and managed some more nice work on the Hulk Squig, and got the Nurgle sorc started on his way, but its now 2.30 am and I am super tired so I will put up shots in the morning instead!

Yeah it is quite expensive @.@ I'm not sure why, maybe just because they can I dunno, it is in USD too though afaik so its not terrible but yeah still kind of expensive. A funny alternative if your willing though, reminds me of that disaster of a game warhammer online >_>; where you jumped inside your giant squig and battled as it/in its mouth Automatically Appended Next Post: Theres always this

How're the sinuses today, Ifalna?

Post by: Ifalna
I am much much better Full of beans and had a really great day!
Today was the last day of our "weekend" so I did not do the full amount of painting I normally would, but did get lots of progress on the biggsquig and nurgly manface.
Bigg Squig -
I botched the lighting and left it slightly too dark in these pics, so had to bleach his colours a little to lighten the image :(
Hulk squig gots his nastay teeth. I think they help pull some of the contrast of the red away, but still might be changing the mouth a bit. Chains were a pain in the arse as a lot of them were miscast and I had to actually paint the chains on, when in reality the resin was not very detailed in parts. Chains need some more shading + highlighting.
Goddamn it Finecast.
Nurgle Sorc -
Armor is finished, skin, metals, gribblies, nurglings and cloth are still early on Starting to come together a bit now.
Black parts are unlikely to stay black, I just blocked them in to help me understand the mini a bit better. He is going to have extremely white pallid skin with gross black ichor dribbling from his mouth and wounds, like a corpse bled out and starting to decompose. Ewwwwwww.

I think its quite rare to see white with Nurgle, but it can look really nice!
Cutthroatcure wrote:Did you airbrush that green and purple on the squig?
I did indeed, handbrushing that colour fade would have been a total nightmare D:

On his say!
Rogue Wolves wrote:oo thanks never saw that before
It's a really nice model, though quite rife with casting issues it seems. I can understand why in fairness, extreme detail.
Click for huge!
Armor and skin done, metals and cloth, nearly done, everything else still WIP!

I have no idea what Im doing with this sorc, he has to be all browns and I am totally winging it, Im trying to make the browns all look different but oh god they are all brown what do I do help me D:
Big Squig had his mouth recoloured today and just a tiny bit of work on spotty mushrooms, its mostly been the nurgle sorc and assembling guardsmen today!
Vitruvian XVII wrote:Looks great iffy!! I am a big fan of off white nurgle.
Yes off white looks really nice versus all the normal Nurgle browns and greens I think, I've definitely seen it done to great effect before, so recommended trying it with the owner on this one
CalasTyphon216 wrote:nice death guard sorcerer, i might have to get one myself
They are really nice models, bar the usual resin problems to deal with, I had to rebend a lot of his parts in hot water, but it all worked out in the end.
Cutthroatcure wrote:Makes sense, I was quite interested in the fade technique on the squig if you had in fact hand painted it.
If it was hand painted I think the technique would have just been " 20 hours of painstaking layering and then jumping out a window after going crazy", so I do think the airbrush is the safer bet!

Da Boss wrote:Wow, I love the contrast with the chains so much. I think I need some manglers of my own now O_o
I figured the chains would have to be super dark to get the right contrast, but they still have a fair bit of work to go Everyone needs manglers, it should be model painting law.
RiTides wrote:I consider the nurgle sorcerer a necessary evil standing between me and More Squigs!!

He's nearly done and out of the way, promise!
GiraffeX wrote:The sorcerer is looking excellent Iffy any plans for the banner?
Oh.. oh god that IS a banner. Crap. Em, no, no plans really, he's at the max of his painting standard, I can't wing adding freehand on the banner as a bonus with all the rest of the work I have to do :( He looks good with it just plain in fairness, he won't be missing out too much.

Add small a drop or two of various greens (Maybe not the fluro hulk green ) to the brown, it'll change up the tone but keep it brown as its the more dominant colour, but I think you're doing fine with it!

Colour Wheel, Iffy. Colour wheel. Find the brown, and go into the greens and the reds.
11961
Post by: Ifalna
I want to go into greens and reds but it has to all be "sandy"coloured, I sneaked some very mild green tones into the cloth and some reds and purples into the rot areas and gross heads on the pike, I hope its going to be noticeable :(
Will have the finished shots soon, so fingers crossed.
