looks amazing.
Yay
Oh man, I think they could look really awful if they were all super glowy with this scheme. If you had a totally Matte black WK with extremely bright gems with an extreme fluroescent edging on the plates though, that could look.. really.. cool.
Hmmmmmmm.....
Dr H wrote:Yeah, one of my issues with
GW is that they cram on details on their models just for the sake of it, and then give no reasoning for what most of them are.
And then they don't tell the painters what to do (or maybe they do), and the "official" paint-jobs don't do the models justice. Case in point, the gems or not gems on all the Eldar stuff. Also something I noticed when I came to paint one, the
DV Helbrute; they spent all that time to sculpt tons of fleshy details on the model, and then paint the whole thing red with no difference between the armour and the flesh...

I know what you mean.
I rarely think the
GW schemes I see are ever my favourites, the skill of the paint jobs is always top notch, but I feel they have to play it safe a fair bit.
While I love this WK, there are likely a lot of silent viewers who think it is horribly over the top, and they are totally justified in that. With
GW, I think playing it safe with some figures is there way of getting the most out of them.
The people who want psychedelic, explosive colour schemes are going to paint them that way anyway, but the folks who like things less gaudy get to see the models the way they like em.
I'm rambling now but I hope that makes a bit of sense

You're doing a lovely job on that knight, If'. Keep it up.

Thrilled you like him, pal. I love the idea of Wraithbone, that it is basically living, energised crystal that grows and pulses.
If I had the skills, I would paint one of these things entirely as a giant crystalline construct with lightning pulsing under the glass, but I'd have no idea how.
I sometimes can see designs I think would be really awesome in my head, but have no idea how to bring them to reality, which is a bit cruddy, but I feel like I'm getting better at putting my ideas down onto figures nowadays

Unacceptable. You must gem all the gems that can be gemed at this point.
I think your scheme, both the starscape and the gems, form a cohesive look. It's pretty stellar! I may have already made that joke.
YES SIR. BAD PUN SIR.

Gonna! All of em!
I do have a question though, and I've been thinking about this since last night.
The scheme in essence is:
Black
White
Loads of blues of various shades
Turquoise
Red
It's pretty simple while remaining effective, but I might need one extra colour for this guy.
He has problematic areas, areas where if they are highlighted with white or turquoise, it's not going to sit well with the colours around it.
His Soul Gems filligree setting around it for instance, and the rune strip on his scatter shield, if either of those are white or turq, they aren't going to work that well in my opinion.
I was thinking that considering the colors, and also considering how revered and important to the Eldar the idea of a Wraithknight is, that I might be ok to add some gold leaf to those kind of areas.
It would be one extra colour, but I think between it, the red, the blues and the black, it could look extremely striking. He has a huge amount of areas on him at the moment that are currently the Galaxy base but are going to be turq, like the area between his collar and breastplate, his joints etc, and in my minds eye, he is missing a little extra that I think the gold leaf could really pull out, especially as it is rich, brassy gold.
Any ideas or opinions on that?
I'd love to hear some
