So, this and that.
Been stripping (hey, it's my choice )
I had forgotten how much plastic doesn't like being stripped! Metals are coming up ok, resin goes a bit peculiar. Need to get another twin lascannon to enact next stage of plan... And either half an IG ac drum or a both halves of a Gatling psilencer barrel. Hint, hint.
I've also got a nice snap of my DW from gms thus far:
And maybe - MAYBE - Sevrin Loth is done.
Added a splash more colour to the stealer, and touched up the goo. Retouched Loth's shoulder pad. I think he's done, but I may be wrong...
Awful January is basically done. Hopefully things are going to perk up a bit.
New car Tuesday! Whoop!
More generally, should be able to get back to p&m, some rpg and maybe even some tabletop! Itching to get a beat down on erithromycin, bought him the chapterhouse eldar specials for Xmas. Probably going to get blown apart but dark reapers, but such is life.
Not quite sure what I'm going to work on next. Any ideas?
Later peeps,

^Thanks mate. I've taken advice from Ifalna on the Vallejo golds and following Knightley's tips on highlighting gold with silvers. Monkeytroll and Skalk Bloodaxe excel at rusting up metals, so their stuff has really informed the treadplate and concrete bolt. Reiko and mrs g have been really picky on the psychic blast bless em. Well, I'm happy enough with Loth that I'm going to try to do a composite. But, first, a test: I've never tried uploading pics via the attachments function, so here goes. Today I brightened up the red and white on those foolish-brag pre-xmas land raiders, and also did so to a lovely BT standard bearer from WM360 that I'm using as a DW / Long Fang Sergeant.

I love my purple dude! He now has a =][= too. That lovely homemade DW bolter was an early inspiration to me, too, when coming back to the hobby.
Squiggles? Do you think I'm Knightley or something ?
Squiggles to follow indeed, and some on the back too, just to keep Briancj happy.
Was going to potter about with DW bits tonight actually as I found another metal DW head, but ended up playing with my scenery box instead and started planning the reliquary shrine to go with the sanctum. The reliquary is the base of the fleur de Lis shape, where the sanctum is the main thrust (think inverted cross). I think it'll make for a nice objective / defensive position. I wonder about the height of it though. Obviously it's got to make sense relative to the rest of the building; equally it has to be playable.
Oh and there was a disaster involving crackle medium that we shan't discuss because it never happened.
Move along now, nothing to see here,

Good advice Skalk. Unfortunately there's still a pile of stuff in front of me as long as my arm. I whittle away at my painting pile only for more to creep up onto it.
And so... Muddying up!
And, cos I haven't forgotten this guy. The giant skull insignia - someone asked a whiles back - are from one of the fantasy terrain sets. A shrine maybe?
I've done a couple of other bits, not photo-worthy though. Sorted a base for BT- DW, has a lasgun on it, preempting the fact that I've been thinking about the Cydonian 9th, my IG, again. Oh dear. Also done a base for the Lamenter- DW and made him a storm shield from some =][= brass etch, sheet styrene and various fiddly bits. I'll get some paint on it, pics anon. I'm also tempted to let you lot choose what I paint, as I'm clearly woefully unable to motivate myself.

Thanks damo glad you like and great to hear from you hereabouts! I have this Storm Eagle staring at me but I don't know whether to do it as Mentor Legion or Deathwatch ( mmm... Deathstorm); I also have a Storm Raven in bits to build for my Weeping Angels (along with all the Weeping Angels stuff, tbh). Plus all the =][= stuff that's built and part-painted. Le sigh.
I think once the vehicles are finished and the DW/gms are done, I'm just going to pick something at random to work on. I really have no idea just now. I'm always very time pressured so anything is done in fits and starts.

Thanks buddy - he would be nowhere near that without your exhaustive input. Onwards! Lone Wolf Lamenter's storm shield takes shape: Internals made from a da termie shield icon, bit of a gk paladin banner, gs wiring and (out of shot) trimmed down auspex screen. Coming together nicely. The BT in situ, now with added spicy Ork! Whoops, bit blurry. Clearly ork spice has overwhelmed me. No idea where that metal Ork Skull's from - anyone? Ah, man this is going to melt your face then.
I had a fairly productive afternoon, in between making curry, watching Incredibles and playing with kids - no marking, but, gee, what a shame eh?
LRs are, I think, pretty much done:
Excuse me while I pick myself up, I just fell of my chair. Not laughing, just literally. ow.
I think inside the sponsons may need to be a bit grubbier...
Some more work on the vindi:
Not sure where to go next with this tbh, apart from blacking in the cannon barrel.
A better (ie in focus) shot of the bt banner dude:
And the lamenter's shield:
Small child grabbed brush, hence a couple of interesting streaks here...
Anyway, @gitsplitta, those servitors you mentioned:
Still a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long way to go on these, obviously.
But wait, I hear you not cry. What's with the purple graven, you don't use that for your retinues...
That's perfectly true, insofar as up until now I've only done Hereticus and Malleus.
Oh would you look at that:

Re your various:
Stray streak - well, exploding shells, running over randoms, these things throw dirt every which way. I steered clear of muddying up the roofs too much as that would just throw off the eye.
Loth is super-zoomable, although that composite image was my first attempt at using layers in PaintShop XV, which was a mite scary.
Glad BT is a winner with you.
Yeah, S_L's taxi marines are stunning, and I'm very pleased with the shield, so thanks.
It's much faded, the purple, on the servitors (see below for explanation) whereas on Valeria it is indeed very strong with big, wet highlights - but hey, she's the boss, she gets good gear.

Thanks mate. Never would've had you go for purple and/or strong colours
The servitors are so far primed grey, washed sepia, drybush 50/50 grey white, flesh in VJ pale flesh, VJ brass layer or drybrush on metals, washed sepia again, drybrush white, a little classic goblin green on vials etc, and then thin layer of VJ purple over the top.
I think!

good point on the various streaks, dirt does tend to get everywhere lol and good plan on keeping it off the roof(s) that seems more realistic...
Ahh i hadnt checked that tbh. i tend to view things as Dakka formats them for me, so i gloss over the fact that i can zoom in ( OTOH it does give me the perspective of viewing when only looking at the thread as opposed to the gallery). I will check the gallery image instead.....And well done on the first use of Photoshop XV!

ahhh ok, that makes mroe sense (and even fits with the background!), theres nothing wrong with a lighter purple, but im so used to seeing a deeper purple that anything else looks washed out *shrug* personal perspective i suppose and i love the way it all looks now so its no bad thing

So abnormal service has resumed, with mrs g a-caking once more. Ah well, still got a bit of pottering done. Some washing of servitors:
Progress on BT base - rubbish pic, a shame as the green has come out really well and will definitely be the way for the gringorks (goblin green, desert yellow highlights, green shade wash).
And some progress on Ursus Malleus (do you see what I did there?)
That assault cannon looks piddly small relative to the giant hammer so I might need to bulk it out in the back/underside.
I feel the need to build something. Ah, modeller's ADD!

Most of the devs, looking forward to a scouty one with a lascannon from gitsplitta too, and gonna build another one myself, I think, though not sure what chapter. Maybe a weeper.
And a jumpy one from the mighty knightley!
The Lamenter's pic has got lost in the interweb. Hmm.
And lastly, finished up the final batch of PAGK.
I really like this shoulder. I just do.
That's a lot of incinerators...
And a psilencer - why not?
Still have a few odds and sods of PAGK to do - interceptors and metal halberdiers. But may take a breather just now. Do something... Wacky.

Cool stuff my man
Servitors look great in purple. Query on the tanks of the second one - love the grren colou for the fluid on the right and like the way you turned the mould flaw into a window on his left tank, but shouldn't the front window on that tank show orangey-red too? Or have I mis-construed what you did on the back?
Sister looks sweet, like the damage on the leg.
Hector looks da bomb. Dat's all.
PAGK's all look great, really need to pick some up, there's some nice bits the meks have been eyeing up for a while.

A-ha! I'm glad you got what I did with the flaw in the cast. I was going for a indicator of some kind - red/yellow/white. Does that work?
Main focus on PAGK was improving my lens work. Although I'm not crazy on the glow, but the lenses themselves are a big step forward.
Glad you like the sister-inquisitor she was a lot of fun. It's very rare that something totally fits the vision in your head.
Hector's just a glorious head-sweat of model.

I know what you mean about the Squiggoth's skin but remember it's going to get shaded down. I'm impressed by VJ sick green as it's the first green that gives me the coverage I've been looking for. Also, it's a stark contrast to the armour and howdah, and I think that's a positive:

Cheers mate. I'm still wondering about approach to the glyph plates. I think I'll hit that one up with a red wash and see what happens. My broader plan is to stick to red as a contrast to the green of the skin and the yellow of the howdah/armour, whilst maintaining the fiest-ork theme. There will be some checks (*shudder*) in there too for general bad moon-ness.

Yeah, I'm liking it. I'm going to add a piston from the surface by the Aquila to the gap next to the side exhaust, I think. I might make a bandstand instead for there, but I think I'll see once the boyz are in situ. They got the rest of their priming this morning (no ponchos, btw, it just wasn't doing it for me), so painting on them may commence this weekend. Automatically Appended Next Post: ... Yeah, I'm pleased with pose. I really like tau - if I did Xenos, they'd be my go-to - and there's a bunch coming up on other bases. Violet and turquoise scheme ahoy! That gun is of Mary's is a Nail gun iirc, but a rotary cannon could work, or maybe, I was thinking, an incinerator - something that'll support death cult well. And as for the box, well...

GiraffeX wrote:The flyswatter looks coll and so does Saint Mary, do you know which line of minis shes from?

Saint Mary is from Dark Age. Same as the non- GW death cult.
The razorback box contains the makings of a modular sob tank. Immolators can be run with hb, so it's as good a starting place as any.
As well as the sprues, then, there's this lot:
In the fluff every exorcist is a unique work of art. So, sounds like an excuse to mod to me! The cod bits will form the altar where I'll mount turret (an upside whirlwind turret from Santa with havoc tubes) or a shrine of some sort perhaps for the repressor/non-turret variants. Parchments etc down the sides, classic metal doors (plasticard for mounting on) and immolator turret.
Not decided on mm turret style yet, thinking maybe a kind of tiered stack of 4 vertically, if that makes sense. Alternatively a + shaped four barrel mm based off the metal? Votes?
I still need a dozer for it, so if anyone can chum me a chimera blade or better yet a vindicator then you may have my eternal gratitude.
The chick with the shotgun, incidentally, is an Escher gang that's counts-as Jacobus - I really object to the sob being led by a bloke! Having said that of course, I'll probably use the confrontation acolyte with the pointy hat as the Confessor.
I'll try to knock something out over the coming days, I've also got a gms to build...

Well, pm me about buggies and we can see what we can do. Yah? Need to just be positive about squiggoth, and take a break. Glad you like my gals!
grrrfranky wrote:Nice exorcist, you just had all those bits lying around? If only that sort of thing happened to me.
Not sure mrs g's such a fan of the bits-sprawl! Cheers for swinging by.
So,
Details have been added to front and sides although I'm really struggling with the areas around the side hatches. Gitsplitta's tread plate idea (see his awesome blog - if you've never been there, seriously, go, go now - it's ok, I'll wait...
...
... Awesome isn't it?) is a possibility.
For variety, I've started the first immolator:
Ooh, retro
And a heavy flamer for the repressor loadout:
Plus tweaked the exorcist:
Hey look. Gratuitous butt shot:
Need also to settle on exactly what's going the hatches in basic mode, how to do the big top hatch for non-exorcist, and decide on whether to use a regular rhino stormbolter or attempt a repressor style one. Oh, and think about a dozer.

Post by: Dr H
Very interesting so far. I'm afraid I can't add much as I'm unfamiliar with the model and your additional gothic twidely bits.
I like the Immolator, I'll have to make something like that for one of my tanks at some point.
Good work on the Heavy flamer.
One thing I will say (and I know 40k is not meant to take this sort of thing into account / rule of cool) is that when I saw the Exorcist layout, my first thought was that the spikey bits will get in the way of the lower missiles. I know, I know, I'm sorry I like to be practical with my models and had to say it.
It does look the part and don't feel the need to change it. Maybe they have some complex computer software that will prevent "accidents".
As for what to add around the hatches or the top without the missile racks, it probably depends on what is in your bitz piles. Maybe something like the "windows" you have on the front would work around the hatches...

@Dr: it's quite good having the view of an "outsider"! Your idea with rhino front visors is genius, totally see that working. As for exorcist, it's on a piston style arrangement so I imagine it rising up with prayer, like a rocket-propelled clapometer.
@llama: yeah - chunky! Automatically Appended Next Post: Okay, a test, and like it says, lmk your thought:
62749
Post by: Dr H
I feel better about it now I know It can rise up on a piston, good O.
Glad to have given you an idea. I wasn't actually thinking of the visor, I meant the little gothic pointy windows you used on the front left (as you look at it). But if it works for you, go for it. The idea came to me as I thought port-holes would be good but would look wrong to have steampunk-like portholes on a gothic-like tank, so I though use gothic-like "portholes". But the visors work as well, as they are somewhere inbetween the two.

Ooh...likey
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
@DrH: coolio. I love those gothic arches - they fit neatly in that strange little shape on the front. They're from the Ven dread and they're in short supply; I did consider cutting them down to 4 windows, but decided not to chance it.
@mt: yeah, I'm liking too. I'm slightly concerned it's out too far but I do really like the cut down baneblade treads though. There's a pair of wee gaps under the tread and I think I might run a little strut, like a piston, as if they fold down - plan?
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Hmm, maybe...let's have a front view to see how far they stick out...
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Yo:
Comparable to the mk1 for how far it protrudes. Automatically Appended Next Post: Or....
Automatically Appended Next Post: I rather like this, although I think I'd have step lightly lower. Thoughts?
62749
Post by: Dr H
I like the piston idea.
Yeah it would make sense for the step to be lower than the bottom of the door so you step down from the door to the step, then from the step to the ground.
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
So option 1 (baneblade tread) or 2 (step with lights)? Automatically Appended Next Post: Or option 3 (would need trimmed slightly!)
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I like the lights... but I don't think they'd be very visible. I'd say option 1, it looks the best proportioned.
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Option 3 looks very cool with the lights, but as Gits suggests, just how visible are they in that position? I think option 1, but could be convinced by 3
57159
Post by: Yellowbeard
I'm leaning toward option 1, too, though option 2 isn't bad. (I like that option 2 seems to have better support for the step.)
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Thanks for input fellas. I do prefer 1 to 2 on reflection. The lights wouldn't be particularly visible in option 3 but would be
1) OSL'd
2) Pimpin'
I would actually have them recessed under the tread, instead of pistons. That make sense?
62749
Post by: Dr H
Oh, see I was liking option 1 with pistons. But the promise of a tank with under body (neon??) running lights (or whatever those hip and groovy pimping types call it) is very tempting.
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Indeed: pimp my Sister, or something like that. Wait...
Option 4:
Automatically Appended Next Post: Tread, lights, double step.
62749
Post by: Dr H
I think "Pimp my sister" is a whole different kettle of fish...
How big a step is it for those that will be using it, does it need a double step?
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Well the top of the wheel line is knee height I guess? A further option could be to offset them, with the light/step to one side of the tread step?
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Hmm, liking the off-set option, shows the lights a bit more.....
62749
Post by: Dr H
Sounds like a plan.
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Ok:
Hmm. Not sure.
How about:
Option6, I guess?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Consider also option 7 being the plate mirrored.
62749
Post by: Dr H
Yeah, maybe they don't go so well together, both as steps. One or the other I think. That's...option 1 (with a piston) or 6/7...for me.
Whatever grips you the most, you have to stand back a look at the whole tank and see what works with all the trimmings.
57159
Post by: Yellowbeard
That looks good, graven. OSL will look great. or... OR, you could really pimp it out and put LEDs in it!
btw, I really like all the bits you tacked on. Adds a lot of character.

Yes, that one! Agree with the hinge on the bottom, that would make more sense to me than the others ( afaik a Rhino's doors open from the top, meaning the lights and things would be too obscured when it falls down)

Ah , I wasn't sure if they were searchlights. Painting will make the difference.
Yeah, I had the thought a while ago (when I read in the rules about what the dozer blade is actually used for) that if you want to remove obstacles from your path to go faster you don't really want to use a flat blade as everything will just be building up in front of your tank... So I have plans for hedge-trimmers and snow-plough-alikes instead. Each to their own though.

I wish! Freehand still evades me. It's sculpted on - the cloak (at least the non-gs element) is from the empire battle wizard. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a Hereticus Damocles. The ability to smite your foe from on high is just so right! Anyhoo... I want the howdah to match, but not be identical: Note the alternate censer. Better, worse, or use both? You can also see both censers in this shot. Interior details have also begun: I knew I'd use these for something eventually. This was originally planned for the gk but never got round to it. I'll not be able to attach the howdah till the interior's painted, as it's not going to be removable. Not sure how to do the big dish yet (well, I have the aquila scanner from the ig apocalypse upgrade, which I'll use, but not sure how to mount it). Hey ho, graven

You know, I forgot to mention it earlier, but I love the interior cabin detail. That's the kind of special touch that really sets a model apart in my mind. It's one thing to fiddle with the outside (which is all I do) but to make the effort to add detail to the inside... where it will be largely unseen and unappreciated. That's special. Kudos graven, you make us all proud.

Awwww Thanks mate. I have more planned, tbh. The internal side doors will have servitors lurking (cos those censers won't stoke themselves) and a seated figure at the console: a modded Karamazov if I can get a hold of one, a servitor or kitbash sob otherwise.

I think you'll find in the grimdark future everything needs to be louder. Or at least said twice. That why it's dakka-DAKKA.
So, a bit of progress on his pimp-ness:
C&C away! He's modelled vaguely on Metropolis, who saw it today and cackled heartily. The resemblance really is striking. I'd hoped to get more done, wife taken to bed early, kids asleep shortly after - and then the bloody phone rings, cold call at that. An hour later, I'm back downstairs, and my get up and go has got up and gone. Bah.
I bought a tin of Flames of War British Brown today - I like the colour generally (I have one of the FoW VJ sets) and I'm going to prime all of my Welshmen in it; then, I'm going to try brushing on quickshade. Anyone have any experience? Should I go with soft tone or dark tone? The plan is, one primed, to block in flesh and add some colour washes here and there before quickshading.
Hey ho - parental invasion tomorrow.
The joys.

Liking it so far...the face, in particular the eyes look good. Tiny niggle is that the right hand doesn't seem to match the other flesh tone....just a wee timorous niggle that though.

I agree on the flesh tone on that hand. It's a wee bit off, but that'll hopefully come through in final highlight (which would've been tonight but see previous!) Glad you like face, and indeed eyes. My nemesis! Automatically Appended Next Post: So the foreshortened evening's efforts: a gms -

I think his armour could do with a different colour added. Something regal that makes him stand out...perhaps some crimson or gold detail.
His skin tone does look rather like him armour.
The blue coat is the right choice and makes him stand out on the table as something more important than a guard commander.

Post by: inmygravenimage
That's a good idea - I like the gold. Crimson would be too Malleus for my scheme. I see what you mean about the skin tone, especially on the hands. Glad the cloak does the job. Feedback very much appreciated!
Better pic of side:
And the banner, which I've not shown really yet:
Parental invasion was... well, hard work. Wine, and curry, in the aftermath is helping. Might get a bit more work on build done later - trying to decide whether sister in the cabin should be helmed or no...

There are 2 plastic sister heads (1 helmed, 1 not) on the new immolator upgrade sprue, selected bits from which I was lucky enough to get from Yellowbeard. Ooh! Pg 90! Time celebrate a meaningless milestone! Also, I tried the gold armour on the torso - muuuuuch better

Ha! I do suffer from terrible p&m ADD. I've got the next section of the Sanctum - the shrine - to build. And there's the fact that there's a league terrain contest. For shrines. Oh dear.

Jiminy Cricket i missed a lot in a short space of time!

i also missed the interior due to auto-appendicitus (i think its catching!), and i wish i hadnt because that is a touch most people dont think about (as Gits said), well done mate. on that note, the command carrier (as it were) is really coming together, i like the OTT-ness of it, mixed with the subtle touches of modelling, cant wait to see it painted
I love that turquoise! nuff said.

The plan for the dioramic base is a big wrecked broken aquila - I'm going to cut it up and add small craters that bases will slot into.
There's a stave in there it's like I knew or something...

Ooo i like the Aquila idea! I would be wary of the models looking.....lost on the aquila though, try and have (if you dont already) an idea o what they are doing/where they are going so they dont look like they are a bunch of kids lost in the dark But i have faith in you that you are at least a step ahead of me (as shown by then next comment...)
ahhh, so... yeah, i may have missed that!

Post by: inmygravenimage
Yeah, it is a worry that they might disappear, but I'm hoping that won't happen. Besides, I like the idea they've just teleported in and caused carnage - there's going to be a pile of chaos corpses...
I've also finished the basic build on the last 2 - scavenger hunting revealed mice have been at my battlefoam again, RAGE!!! - so we have the NDH guy (has a sword on his belt though):
And the incinerator guy, with brotherhood banner (I know they can't take one, don't care, they should have a brotherhood banner dagnammit!)
The observant among you will notice the fw brass. There's detailing a-coming! All of the Brotherhood of the Sword need detailing still to various degrees.

Kev Adams, renowned goblin sculptor, was brutally attacked by burglars (police treating it as attempted murder). Quite apart from how awful this is, he's a lovely, lovely guy - only had the pleasure of meeting him once but he was a real inspiration, and anyone who's collected an Ork from the 90s will have had one of his in their hands. My childhood was orks, and he's an absolute legend.
And/or check out on Facebook: goblinaid
Goblin themed auctions, to raise money to help Kev and his family. If you're going to Salute, the full set of sculpts will be on sale.
I should say that Kev is recovering well, and also Fenris Games (aka Geronimo_jones on eBay), where I get all my resin bases, who've done much to bring this to the community's consciousness.

I really want to crack on the theme of your entire project, but I have to cede because your artistry and craftsmanship is worthy of praise and admiration every time regardless of the application. The Damocles is so very OTT that I literally laughed out loud at work, and (in my mind) it perfectly exemplifies the attitude of ostensive opulence that the Adeptus Ministorum is so well known for.
Wicked good job all around. Looking forward to seeing how it looks as a combined force once it is all finished up and done. You may see an ulterior motive in that statement, but we'll skip past it for now.
