Dave, I was looking back a few pages and saw your excellent V.A.M.P. conversion project...it made me think of the cool G.I.Joe stuff I had as a kid...I think my obsession with those action figures carried over to my obsession with miniature war-gaming, etc.
This was one of my favorite vehicles from the good 'ol days. I have lots of fond memories of jumping this thing off the stairs at home!
I think it would make for excellent inspiration for an IG vehicle, or even an Ork buggy!
Wow, thanks a lot Tibbsy! I'm so glad people get something out of this stuff! I really appreciate the comment and look forward to your stuff!
The AWE Striker would be a great Guard vehicle for sure!
I know, I need to order from Bro. Vinni again soon!
Unfortunately, student loan people think they are more important than miniature companies right now

To kind just to kind
I am so tempted to invest in the Fall out minis they are so cool looking they have a head set as well now
Student loan did I miss something have you gone back to school
Yep, i'm just gonna flood Dave's blog with some random crap now! I was inspired to go searching for some GI Joes and found some as well as something else I am going to mail to him just because they need a good loving home!
these are the 4 Joes i found, early 2000's i'm guessing and I have more older ones at my parents home I will try and find one day!
I also found this little unopened treat i forgot about don't know if I should hang onto it or what!
and now for the pressie for Dave! I can remember being stoked to get these years ago and I don't have the same love for them now plus a lack of room in the Nerd Lair so I think he can have them to decorate his home!
and some random little ones i can't find the instructions for
That Schumacher set goes for $50-$80 on ebay! They only had that Licensed Ferrari line out for a very short time. Those are some cool walkers too! I don't really collect older O-ring GI Joes much though, but I do get nostalgic
Cool, good to know Dave! might just hang onto the Ferrari kit then :-) but the Exo-Force Lego are yours if you want them? and if you don't, do you know anyone else worthy?
Too bad I built the larger Ferrari kit hat I had, I'm sure it would b worth a ton still in the box. But my son got day of enjoyment out of it before it got tore down for parts.
HA! yeah... they would... indeed... atm they are totally high on star wars tho... but we still have a couple of atlantis stuff too... and there was this mech too:
that was a cool thing to build too...
and yesterday we scored quite a bit too at our local fleamarket... we spent around 50 €s for lego star wars stuff... retal worth was probably double or triple of the amount ... now we have anakin and savage opress and asajj ventress... and my son oskar finally got himself some madalorian fighters.. that set is one of the most sought for sets probably... it is that expensive originally but somehow they have been so popular that you almost can´t pay them on ebay... shops have long ago ceased to sell them anymore... so we were hughly lucky to finally find them.... and that for half of the retail price!!!
by the way... i am curretly at helios... and about to set the tower to blind me
LOL! it will help if you find the range finder from the kid in vegas near the Mick and Ralph store, the two kids running around just playing, he has it,
shasolenzabi wrote: LOL! it will help if you find the range finder from the kid in vegas near the Mick and Ralph store, the two kids running around just playing, he has it,
Yeah, that's good fun. You have to have the right setting on Helios to use it though.
Ok so, as requested, here is a quick look at the Dust Tactics "Warzone Tenement" kit
2 interior boxes packed full of awesome plastic goodness!
click-slide fit system
I can see some amazing things being possible with several of these kits!
It looks like you could even use them upside down for variation
Yes, it appears that you could even paint all the sections separately and rearrange the building every time if you wish to.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Wow, I am very impressed at the size!
The fancy masonry greeblies are my favorite, it makes this building usable in any era from Victorian to grimdark
You only get one door with the set, but 2 storeys worth of walls, plenty of angled parts too (4 more than you need to make two rectangular floors-2 extra inside and 2 extra outside angles to build the cutout shape on the front of the box ). Notice the tabs on top, makes it super easy to add scratchbuilt brick upper storeys if you wish to build a typical city building with shops on the first floor and apartments above.

Ash 1 wrote: I like the look of that. How do the sections compare to Cities of Death bit, in regard to height?
and that looks quite fluffy!
in fact the stone work reminds me of that masonry that used to be seen at towpenny tower and the style for that... *nudge, nudge, nudge*
and funny that you show just that big door dave... i won an ebay auction for that very bit... somehow i need to make something worthwhile for that piece!
Yes, it COULD be very Tenpennyish..except for the masonry, I'll need to cast the masonry bitz for tenpenny myself
Well, this is what you get in the box
Unfortunately, not enough big window bits to build a big rectangular 2 storey, but an extra one built OOB. I think maybe that is the gimmick, more sets, more panels Those are the included heavy cardboard floor panels, but plasticard has made those obsolete
@Vik, I prefer the other side of that door, I favor it in my projects
I can picture a skyshield landing pad jutting off of that gap in the back at about the penthouse level
More stuff to entice me and my weakness! damn you again Dave! but it does look pretty good and super workable especially for you and any other league member who ever sees them! I need to not get sidetracked....... not....get .......
Vik, PM me your address dude and I'll send your boys the Exo-Force :-)
Hopefully, Fantasy Flight will have piles of them at GenCon, they have a HUGE presence there every year. If anyone can take GW down, they can do it pumping out great products like this

I thought that was subparagraph three of the league of extraordinary riveters rules.
Now Dave, they actually work witth GW as they got the license to do the Role playing games Dark Heresy/Rogue Trader/Death Watch and the support books, the latest for DH is the IG one they are publishing.
Right, but I mean they have the distribution network to get a GW alternative product out there to the people who would otherwise spend on GW. i.e. all of us
Well that kit is $20.97 through miniature market. Best price I saw through a fast search. They are local to me, so id have to pay taxes, but still cheaper than warstore, but I think vik would match him.
Man you must have looked like a tourist when you got that in NY, I believe retail is $29.95. That's what thewarstore.com and miniaturemarket have as suggested retail anyway.
Mark up happens in Manhattan as the joint is so expensive to begin with! I am surprised they weren't putting 50bicks as the price!
Yeah, with the lower costs of their stuff, they could help under cut GW and either sink the 30yr old company, or force it to make some smart changes and stop acting like a bunch of Twinks
Stopped by he flgs, they have a section of dust tactics, but they said very few players. If anyone I looking for the set Dave got you may want to instead pick up operation Cerberus. It's msrp is 44.95 instead of 29.95, but looks like you get twice the building structures and two figs. They also make Quonsen huts for airfields that look neat.
Dave I think I'm going to get drawn into the game because of you. They also have 1'x1' thick outlet sided card tiles for the game board. I need to find pics o them because the back of the box only has partial images shown.
The shop I was in in Albany had the whole line of Dust stuff, including the Quonset huts, and the Operation expansion packs. I saw the one that came with the buildig. They even have fliers!
You can never be done with Necromunda, as soon as you think you're done, a dome will collapse opening a new ancient alien world! The more I read about the game, the more I want to pick up the core set and at least paint the figs. I have a Modeling magazine that has a great article of someone painting a proper weathering job on the walking tanks, they look amazing when painted well.
Yeah, i need the warfare book I have the FFG Dust Tactics starter, now they are coming out with More Russian stuff, I see nice Axis and Allies stuff too
Order through miniature market Dave, looks like the best discount on them right now, or call Vik at he warstore.com and have him bring you a truckload to gencon .

Very glad those Dust buildings turned out great, I was dying to buy some but saw no comparisons. Will be a great addition to your already great terrain
Well yesterday we drove down to Indy for a great concert, while we were there, I stopped into a game store locally, and scored these
DUST tactics revised core set
DUST Warfare core rulebook
Another tenement building
Inside the box you get full allied and axis forces
packaging is a win here, you could pack everything back up into the box like new for storage
I'll show each figure in greater detail when I paint them
figure scale shot
Walker Scale shot
Glad I'm not the only one with an urge to go buy these since you showed the tenement building. Depending on how the day goes today I might pick them up locally. Did the main box come with some reversible tile game boards? If so can you snap a picture of hem to see if they'll make a good base board for necromunda?
Yeah, it has board game panels in heavy cardboard like munda terrain, but the game mat is basically a paper poster, so no, not very long lasting. The idea of the Dust Warfare hardback book is that you use the Miniatures from the Boardgame for a tabletop game. aka- no board and no grid
I have a manufacturing error though lol These are assault troops with jump packs. To save weight, they apparently wear 1910 era leather football helmets This is Corporal Miscast face
You can contact the company and get a replacement.
The setting of Dust is an alternate World War Two, so the helmets are period.
Dust is based around fixed loadouts, so there's not a lot of 'customization' you can do. From a modeling standpoint, the infantry figures tend to be in ridiculous poses, the female miniatures are all cheesecake, and the walkers are fixed-pose, and have to be cut apart to be modified.
On the plus side, in theory, the paint on the figures is primer, and you can paint directly on them. I have not tested said theory.
I painted a German work walker, it is primer, I saw the paint went on just like it was pre-primed, had to make the paint go around the decals,, but I saw on the Dust site that they also have decal sheets for the factions. It is almost like you are playing not just in a alternate world war setting, but the cheesecake that done in the movies of the late 40's early 50's as well. In some ways Dust makes me feel like I stepped into a Sy-Fy Weird War II marathon! But I actually enjoy the Weird War II stuff
The Primer is cool and all, but there are still faint mold lines that need scraped, so it's sort of moot there. The heads and torsos have a ball-and-socket joint for posability. I just posed and glued the first Ranger attack squad.
I'm not sure what kind of plastic it is, but it ain't styrene, or the primer blocks the liquid cement. CA was the only option.
Operation: Anchorage anyone?
Probably one of the most enjoyable DLC I ever played in FO-3
And I will likely also scrape mold lines and glue mine to a pose and leave them like that, the bases are what makes them seem taller than standard figures, they merely come with a steel soap box is all.
Dave, you just made me go spend money. Operation Cerberus, and three of one of the walkers. The deal off the day at miniaturemarket.com $11.00 each. Pics later.
more money would be nice to support my addiction to plastic crack
corrected that for you
who needs work when you have so much hobby work to fo?
and dave... i see lots of possibilities in these models... i am quite surprised tho that you got yourself the axis army first? dust has some amazing american troops! tho... in the first comparrision pic you showed the catachan and the german are together with an american? this one tho looks way bulkier than the german dust model? or is it just me?
Automatically Appended Next Post: oh.. and nice to see your steampunk walker again!... i was thinking of starting my own competition soon... it has a lego and a modeling challenge to it... and of course it will dwell in the lands of steam!
Just stoped to say "Hi" while I'm chewing through all the 80 pages...
Speaking about Dust; I really liked the new heavies, made me consider trying it out. How's the rule set? What's it like?
I'm not sure of the rules yet, I can leave you this though
Automatically Appended Next Post: And theo in turn makes me go spend money there to get that $11.00 deal! But I got the Allied flier, because it looks too fun to paint!
Yeah, the primer/paint will block poly' cement, especially if it's a complete coat. Scratching some/most/all of it off would solve that problem, assuming that it is polystyrene underneath.
I'm not sure what it is, but the primer they use almost makes it stronger. Perhaps it's similar to heroclix-type figures? I don't have any to compare it to.

Very Interesting. I will be following this because the terrain seems nice.
Yes the minis are made of a odd plas-res that is bendable, and heat helps it do so. Makes me think it is more like the stuff GW could have started making their failcast from but then went to the chalk like brittle stuff
Well, I've got to get a MiniArt 1/72 Railroad Station kit painted ASAP for IPMS-USA. The mortar lines in the brickwork are giving me fits. This entire project has been a mess since it began. At first I had incorrect instructions, so MRC sent me an entire new kit. I worked on it yesterday, but nothing worthy of a digital pic yet...
Must be terrible to get sent free stuff , I know it's a pain when you don't have a desire to paint it up, or fix the problems with the kit though. Good luck getting motivated and completing it.
Well, it's a double-edged sword, temptation of all sorts of free stuff, until you realize you have a deadline This is me experimenting with thinned white India Ink. This is my third attempt. The first time, I didn't let the base red dry completely, and everything had a horrible pink tint to it. White Gouache worked like a charm for Bag-End's floors, but it didn't work at this scale. Not enough surface area on the bricks to support the wet-scrubbing I usually do...
Wow, that kit is nice looking, too bad it's not necromunda scale. Well it could be the right scales for squats, but as they are gone, I guess an empty building is appropriate.
I think it looks like a lot of the older homes around me where in some spots they used extra mortar and it bleached the red brick a bit more than other spots. Or it could be an area that just got retuckpointed and you have the dust from removing the old mortar lightening the spots. Plant some shrubs or trees in front of it to camouflage the areas you don't like. Battle damage would also work some wonders.
I think my iPads been used on dakkadakka too much, every time I type "work" it autocorrects to "ork"
hmmm. Perhaps you're right. I dunno. I Just washed the stone window inserts (primed light grey) and other greeblies with Secret Weapon concrete wash. we'll see how it looks with those on.
i agree brickwork looks stunning, and where the white ink(?) didn´t settle i would just add a simpe diluted wash of hawk turquois? for that ruined and recaptured by nature mossy look?
I like the variation in the tile roof, and do you know what the regular retail for that kit is, I was floored by some prices when I stopped at the hobby store last week.
Edit: ill just leave this here Dave, in case you don't get over to news and rumors often.
This just got posted up on GF9. Hoping it costs as much as a Medium Walker or at most a Heavy. I want at least one! Comes with some neat fiddly bits, too!
@vik, you never heard of Lavern and Shirley? , I guess it's just a piece of Americana that doesn't translate well. Especially the opening which is Yiddish. It means something along the lines of the bungler and the unlucky , and rabbit stew , well it came up in a trivia contest we were at months ago.
Hasenpfeffer is a German word isn't it? Yeah Theo, they always have a big table at the local LEGO conventions around here. Cool stuff.
btw Theo, the emplacement is VERY cool!. Most days I never leave my subscribed threads ..and I'm not even keeping up with those nowadays
Hasenpfeffer is indeed a German rabbit stew. One of my uncles used to make it every Easter (Sick ), and tell us kids afterwards what it was. He also would tell us that he got the Easter bunny before he could hide he eggs, so no egg hunt. Glad he's part of the family we not talk to anymore. It's braised in a red wine sauce and has shallots and bacon, or that how he made it. It did taste really good, but he also raised the rabbits on his farm, so it was hard to keep down once you realized you had been petting your dinner a few days before.
mean... some peeps deserve quite some nasty disease... nothing terminal... just to take them down a peg...
it is the special kind of old man humor i come to know from some of the more unwelcome family members of mine too... i think there is a nasty streak in humanity ... we need to cross breed so we can elminate it
Well, here it is done, review is done.
I decided to use Government Green on the doors after all Remind me to stay away from 1/72 in the future. This was a thoroughly annoying kit, and I don't want to build another one.
Looks great dave , really like the green doors, helps bring I to life. I hope hey send you a really awesome kit next time. Like new dust tactics terrain .
dsteingass wrote: Thanks I still have to finish the ruined factory thing, then I'm going to NOT request any more kits for awhile, get some other stuff done...
Yeah, and I'm not going to buy any more GW figs until I've painted the huge backlog of Space Marines, IG and tyranids I have. Right?
Yep. I have three full squads with heavy weapon and assault weapon, and some extra heavies., plus I'm using the officer model using two pistols as sgts for all three squad and the officer model with the power sword as the LT of the platoon. They need to be repainted.
Funny story about Berets, When the GBs adopted them in the 60s, the powers-that-be didn't want them wearing Berets because they looked too "foreign" . This is the same kind of mentality that made Patton insist on men in combat in WW2 be clean-shaven, have shined boots, and wearing ties
congratz to beenies first blood!...your bloody toe doesn´t count... that is stupidity^^... when you do this again with a big kitchen knife we may talk about it some more
as for the dust flyers... wow... very good looking... valuable for so many different styled armies... and i think orks would love them too!
the HIND like heli indeed looks as if a match made in heaven for shasos khardovians...
and while mister wayne surley was coining that look i think of the cadetes of bunker hill... (taps?)...
i also did that stunt not only with a kitchen knife... but also with a handheld drill... and even better with a comb...yeah... my feet like pointy objects it seems...

Nice flyers. I like how they are a slightly cartoony versions of recognisable aircraft.
I too tend to spend a lot of time with bare feet. But I have scalpels that don't roll... You'll want to be careful with injuries like that around the dog now she's got a taste for blood...
MSRP is $40 USD LDD, but you can get them cheaper
http://www.miniaturemarket.com/ffgdt065.html really no need for ebay, they are a new product. New stuff on ebay is always jacked up in price.
Problem is hey don't come in battle forces like GW stuff. So if you buy the box your after one of he two items in it. And if you play, then your opponent probably would take the other army. Miniature market had the best discount I saw, but I haven't checked the european dealers. Also miniature market has free delivery over $100.00, not sure if it applies to you though.
No, I think you're confusing DUST: Tactics which is the board game with DUST: Warfare the tabletop build-your-army game (the hardcover book). but they both use the same miniatures.

I want to preserve the OD green color because I want to preserve the pre-printed markings on the wings
No, I am just after some of the kits although I did get the board game when it was originally released, just wanted the miniatures at the time although was tempted to play the game.
That's US Blue/Grey - the same color used on the belly of real P-38s. You have the older, bigger set with 4 walkers LDD? Once this is dry, I'll mask the engine cowls, those will be yellow, and the nose/radome will be silver
Then shading, then moar markings (plenty of room for nose art!), then weathering
I thought that was what you might be doing with it, it should lift the whole model as it is a little flat of a paint scheme the yellow will really make it pop.
Yes, the large box set I really got into the AT-43 miniatures and saw a potential cross over and bought it as soon as it hit the shelves I think I even pre ordered it
I have to say I was really quite impressed with the box layout and the models.

Well, after much Masking and unmasking, the base coats are finally on
No, I'm no freehander, but I've got some great decaling planned out. She is covered in Future floor wax right now. I should wait until tomorrow while it cures.
Thanks Bama! The Micro Sol and Micro Set are curing right now (fixed the back edge with that step-too focused to take pics). Which means I cannot touch it for several hours. We'll be going to the town Festival (Carnival Vik -for good food -good time to let it cure. then we'll add moar markings!
Thanks Fellas!
This is a couple of hours cured. I think I'll give it one more coat of Micro-sol to hide what remains of the edge. Once it's coated again with Future, it should have that painted-on look..I hope
Yeah, I coated it with Future. And yep, the last coat of micro-sol will fold that cut panel in in nicely. But I won't cut/fold it on the lettering or her leg. The OD green is also painted. It turns out Vallejo Air US Dk. Green is a perfect match to the Allied primer.
Thanks Vik! I was saying that The festival is like your carnival, except in the summer. Basically you walk around downtown in the heat, look at vendors, crappy rides for the kids, eat at Junkfood alley
Automatically Appended Next Post: I did some shading and panel touch-up on the OD Green, and re-coated it all with another coat of future. I should've done this extra coat before I started decaling, but I did it this way for you nose-art demanders After all, the nose art is the one decal that absolutely, positively, has to be right! Still some lines, but it's mostly ink buildup. I'l touch it up, should be good
Thanks Vik! I was saying that The festival is like your carnival, except in the summer. Basically you walk around downtown in the heat, look at vendors, crappy rides for the kids, eat at Junkfood alley
ah! by the way... i tend to skip these... to many pckpockets there and the food is indeed too oily and fat and rather something you need to be already drunk enough to really enjoy^^
After all, the nose art is the one decal that absolutely, positively, has to be right!
yup^^.... almost flawless... there seems to be just a tiny undercoat of darker paint at the underside... but you are free to ignor this as no one would see this as it is the underside of the decall and from a table top persepctive not to be seen... only seen by these closeup pics anyways...
That's the ink buildup, it'll be remedied post-haste
We actually skip the deep-fried-anything trailers, we go specifically for this place that grills steak, red-skinned potatoes, onions, and mushrooms. A guy is constantly turning these big beef cuts on a grill. occasionally, he dices up some of the steak, and drops it in one of the big pans, which a girl then stirs, while adding and stirring the onions and mushrooms in seperate, anciently-seasoned cast-iron skillets. Then you order what you want (girly size or manly-sized), they scoop it all into a 1lb foil tin, you give them money, and you get to eat it!!
The Micro-sol melts the decal film into goo, making it ultra-soft and thin- that's why you can't touch it for ah hour or so while it cures- any poke can destroy the decal. so there's no ink under that decal just at the corner of it's thickness.
Sorry not posted in few, been away, Love the plane and the decal looks sweet. That ink build up is inevitable. Sure you will sort it.
The building a couple pages back looks brilliant. We have many older buildings here that look just like that.
And just been away and unfortunately visited a few of the nasty vendors you are talking of. Nasty deep fried everything, They even deep fry in batter PIZZA, No way was I going for that heart attack. Can you imagine the oil soaked into the pizza base......
Anyways awesome work and nice to actually see you modelling, you seemed to slow up for a bit but are back on track now.

Thanks guys! Her Belly is now shaded and re-touched up now too, Just painted and attached the landing gear wheels. had that happening before... then i restarted the machine and now everything seems to be back again....
I would assume so! I ordered the Sourcebook from http://www.dustgame.com/index.php along with a bunch of decals.
And now I really want to build one of these!
Or maybe an Aircraft Carrier!
uuuuiiiii.... i can so fully understand this...
whenever i see the opening sequence of saving private ryan... i flinch before the courage of those men...sitting/standing in their group caskets...
hmm... but isn´t all that 1:35 and 1:48 scale stuff pretty expensive when it comes down to tiny soldiers? the tanks and planes... ok... but troops...ohoh...
Dave, sorry for an offtopic, but one of russian shops I'm subbed to just released this, and somehow the first thing I thought about was your awesome terrain projects
If you're intrested I'll PM a direct mail for ya as the site is in russian =/
They are great! Better yet, can you translate for me, how much? I'd appreciate it, thanks Storag! I think the new future of the Miniatures industry is in Russia, so much cool coming from there lately!
I googled and translated the site to see what he had, and he has statues! The kind that would help me make the one project that is merely a drawing, the shrine tank!
While strolling along the Internet last night I found another website with dust tactics/warfare stuff Dave, just about the same price as miniature market.com, its texastoysoldieronline.com. They advertise here on dakkadakka, and seem to be a little cheaper than mm, flat 4.95 shipping from what I saw too , also found a store in Illinois that has great discount as well, it's a half hour drive for me, but I can order here, drive and pick up there and no sales tax , so even cheaper for me than mm.
hey dave... i just had a look at that russian site... and it is littered with awesome stuff... i think russians don´t advertise enough... such great talent!!!
your pilot looks really cool... love the life jacket on him, the yellow again makes the whole model to greatness!
Pilot looking good, love the leather. I am a bit confused as to what the "engine" behind him could be? What is it driving? Or is it maybe a fuel pump? Just that its got nothing to do!! Looks great and painted great, just wondering what that bit is for?
Thanks guys! I have no idea what the function of the engine-ish bit is. I especially wonder why it needs to be under the cockpit dome, but I suppose it's just for interest, as the Alien Element provides limitless power.
Me too! and thanks!
Supply Drop!

Some other Schmincke colors .. I realy like these paints. Got a super-opaque white, and hopefully more-opaque yellow, flesh, and an effect paint called "Space"
and an EXPENSIVE replacement needle/nozzle for my Badger Sotar 2020. I haven't bent mine yet (it's made of Alien Alloy I think) but if I ever do, I need this.
onto my other IPMS-USA kit and the grimdarking work....
Well, compared to needles/nozzles for my Badger Renegade Krome, they are comparatively more expensive. I'm not sure, but it really may be a different alloy This airbrush seems to be superior quality all-around.
Thanks guys! The front stairs were part of the kit, I just added the struts. The inside steps were just leftover bitz from those stairs reinforced from styrene I had in the same sizes.
Now the air ducts are in place
I made a few modifications myself, the kits joint sucked
oh yeah, bubbles, lots of them. I've scraped them off, but you can't get them all/ All these kits have those bubbles. I leave them on the ground as dirt, but scrape them off the walls.
@LDD
That's a shop mate, not a studio. The owner never claimed any of those to be his work and given the price per set I believe most people will skip the perils of casting and simply buy the needed amount )

But thanks for the info pal!
Which Brick mould are you referring to Dave ?
@ Storag I know Dave likes moulding thats why I thought he might like the mould, plus you can have them to hand as soon as you want rather than waiting for delivery, although to be fair all my dealings from Russia has been pretty quick I dont think casting them should be that much of a task though as they are flat backed.
